Oh where to start. Reached out to this firm based on a recommendation. All correspondence was via…read moree-mail. Determined that the price for a return was reasonable (estimated around $450-$550) plus whatever extra complications. Sent the partner my previous turbo tax file (per request) and then asked two questions regarding my tax situation. This turned into a bit of an exchange over email, even had to send some additional papers. Mind you, this is all going on way before the actual tax return. One question answered, another not, but it did not matter because I figured once the actual tax prep began I can get all the information. Get a bill a few weeks later for $400 for "emails". Yeah, brutal. Turns out that answering two questions and going over some papers will run you four hundred bucks. Naturally, I resisted as that is crazy. So he offered a discount to $300, but that was still too much. I am being charged for emails what people pay for basic tax returns? Mind you at no point whatsoever do you get warned or that you are on the clock. Few months later collector comes knocking, I explain the situation and seemingly everything is quiet. Nope, they sue me in small claims. I figured why not, there is no way this is reasonable. Feels like a giant firm fleecing the small guy. Court will surely rule in my favor. Nope, clerk magistrate barely cares about my story and rules against me. Best part? The lawyers (yes, two ) had two cases that day. Apparently I am not the only one who finds the practices of this firm shady, underhanded and sneaky. However they still got their money from me one way or another, too bad it was via the courts and not actual services. Stay the hell away folks.

Though it was painful and frustrating beyond words, here's a few: SKM apparently operates on a rotating shuffle of numerous distant teleworking employees, several of which apparently decided not to come to work, even remotely, on the contractual day of closing, Dec 23th. Having had made a good number of mistakes themselves along the way (like the property address), they had no problem making me jump through every conceivable hoop, to accommodate them and their last minute delay. With every paper and every notarization they demanded in hand, I obligingly reported to their 'office' to close the deal, where I was brusquely met with an entirely new person who didn't take the trouble to introduce himself. Within a few minutes of sitting in a bare room, I had a phone thrust in front of me on speaker, with a highhanded voice talking at me, again without introduction. The voice, sounded like he was at a call center hundreds of miles (maybe south) of here. Within minutes, it was obvious that this man had no idea of the first thing about this deal (like the sale price) and clearly hadn't read the purchase and sales agreement. But that didn't stop him from running roughshod over the contract and imposing his own set of rules on the closing. Worse still, he attempted to justify his bullying with insults and defamatory innuendo . Based on the behavior of Jordan, the only person physically present, the man on the phone apparently instructed him not to conclude the transaction, as laid out in the contract, at that time. Because the strange voice killed the deal within minutes from afar, my wife had to take two extra days off work, travel across New England, I had to extend the hotel stay three nights to make ourselves available to get this closed, in whatever way possible. In response to Maloney's denial of the closing Dec 24th, we also brought in an additional attorney to the transaction at the last minute. The tax prorations had to be redone and the utilities, insurance had to be extended,, increasing the cost of the deal and diminishing the seller's net proceeds. In the meantime, the buyers, who are good people, could not move in, as they had expected. I suspect the movers they had lined up had to be somehow rescheduled. Jessica Cunha, the attorney who was most involved, herself devoted a good bit of mindshare to this deal, and seemed to genuinely care about getting it closed. She alone is the reason the review had been doubled from one to two stars. However, she worked remotely and against the backdrop of a company whose top brass, based on our experience, has little respect for consumers, and less for contracts. The result was that the overall experience was a dread. This year, the Grinch truly did steal Christmas ;~(

My toddler has a blood disease and my significant other is out of work due to his recent diagnoses of cancer. It took me countless attempts to reach him by phone, by email. Which was really important to me in knowing how were going to keep up with our bills for the next 8 months while he is out of work getting chemotherapy. Thad was not responsive at all. Did not communicate with me at all. I understand with everything going on with the pandemic things will be slowed down. But he wasn't emailing me back, or calling me back at all which is unprofessional. He then put the blame on another accountant as to why no one has reached out to me in the 2-3 months I was trying to get a hold of him. If I could take everything back, I wouldn't have paid for him to do my taxes because he was terrible and I will not be doing my taxes with this company in the future.
