My first impression a year ago was 5 starts. But the food quality and the service has changed. What happened? Last yr I had the nicest servers, they were super polite and courteous. They all made a great impression and got a great tip... They deserved! Today It was the second time I brought someone new and they mentioned that the servers were not very welcoming. First time going there after reading such great reviews for years now. Breakfast, only customers, sat outside. Waitress doesn't need to be friendly at all but in a hurry? Also the food was so lacking. Biscuits and gravy, cold hard and lumpy gravy. Friend's omelette looked great but was very dry I ordered a English muffin to replace the biscuits and gravy and it was $3.95 for a tiny over toasted dried up low quality muffin. I'll try lunch. Not too far from Cowles mountain hike. First time here and enjoyed the generous portions and tasty meal. Poached eggs seem to be a challenge at most restaurants and usually come out like a soft boiled egg unfortunely. I like to dip my bacon in the yolk and never get to because of this problem. Oh well. Everything still tasty and good price and good atmosphere. I tried the hollandaise and it was very good. Taking half the meal home because it's a lot of food. I'd come back here again. read more

I'll start with the good, and why Janet's deserves these 2 stars: -The fruit was fresh -The waiters were nice -The tables and patio were clean -They followed crazy COVID guidelines to a T. The ugly: -There was bright fuchsia lipstick on my water cup. I wear pink or red. Never fuschia. -It took 30 minutes to heat a kettle of water for hot tea. Was all the water frozen? Boiling that much water takes 10 minutes maximum. -My eggs were watery. -The waiter set someone else's food down on our table (none of us were masked because we were seated) and then gave the other table their food. None of us breathed on it. I just think it was overlooked. -The biscuits are not biscuits. It is like the put the dough in a 13×9 pan and then cut a slab out and call it a biscuit. That is cake, sir. -There was no buffalo sauce/flavor on my husband's buffalo burger. The meat was not buffalo. It was beef. How is this a buffalo burger? It has to either have the sauce or come from a bison to be a buffalo burger. My in laws like this place because they have GF muffins my "can't eat anything" my MIL likes and for the owners obvious political views. Cool cafe. So nice I've been back thrice. Family friendly breakfast-served-all-day (& lunch) joint. Everyone is so nice whenever we go. Cozy dining room. They also have tables out front and at the back patio near the Mast Park parking lot. I've tried and enjoyed a few plates with family over a number of visits. It's been all good with what I've sampled so far. I keep forgetting to save room for dessert because the treats in the display case look quite tasty. Except for that one time the nice waitress sold me on a meal that included a scrum-diddly-umptious piece of homemade coffee cake. Good call. Our favorite spot to grab lunch when we have picnics at the lake! The portion sizes are huge, and easily sharable. Pro tip....You can turn any of their salads into a wrap, and they are soooo good! Husband ordered a "build your own omelette" and I got the "country omelette"... It came out hot within a few minutes.. I had mine with some hash browns and a carrot muffin. The hash browns were crisp on the outside but a bit mushy inside. And didn't really have much flavor on its own. Definitely needed some s&p. The muffin was pretty good too.. When you walk in, the restaurant is cozy and homie. Decor reminds you of being in the country. I ordered a veggie omelet with Swiss (egg whites/soft), hash browns, biscuit, and an OJ. The entree was delicious and the ingredients were fresh. For both our entrees, drinks and tip, it was $38. Customer service was on par and we were checked up on frequently. The Country Fried Steak here is delicious!! The Country Eggs Benedict is made with 2 huge biscuits. The biscuits are good, just a little dense. The portions are big enough to share. Sat on the patio as it's obv the only option now, and even though it was extremely hot they made sure to make us comfortable. We ordered different things from omelettes to wraps and burger patties. I will have to say, the food was not great across the board. Not very flavorful, needing more seasoning and salt. My patty with the eggs had no flavor at all so was adding salsa to make up for it.
