Wanted to try a different breakfast/brunch place, we've always driven by Janet's. Finally decided to head in and give it a try. At first glance, it looked small in the main area. Until the staff brought us to the back. Decent size patio area and it was fairly busy on a Sunday morning. Service was ok, not going to criticize on that since they were busy and we weren't the only ones waiting. Food quality was good, however, it would've been nice if the waitress could've assisted us more than just that once when she brought the food. Had to ask another server to refill my water. I understand the busy part, but it would've been nice to have been checked on. Overall, it wasn't bad. I might have to come back a different day. Maybe it'll be something different! read more

Nice neighborhood spot to have breakfast. Good portions are good, usually no waiting or reasonable times.

We ate at the one in Alpine and it was amazing so we tried the Santee location. We got the Blackened chicken sandwich and the chicken was leather. The bread, pesto and red pepper were all we could eat. For the price it was not good. I'll stick to the alpine location. read more

This place is in a really cute little strip mall. They have outside and inside seating. A real nice place to take someone, if the food was a little better. The service was very friendly and attentive. Coffee was really good, but over all the food was not up to par. Food was average, with no wow factor. The most disappointing is the biscuits and gravy. The biscuit taste more like a large dinner roll, then a buttermilk biscuit. Very odd for anyone who is a true biscuit and gravy lover. The hash-browns were meh! Nothing extra, just basic as can be. Shredded potatoes looked to be baked on a sheet then cut as if each person got their own rectangle shape of pre portion out hash-browns. I wish this place was better. I'm back to DZ Akins. read more

Cute and cozy spot in a location you'd never expect. Janet's is a small diner tucked away in a random mini mall, a place you'd never expect such a cute little ma and pa restaurant to be. The inside of Janet's is pretty small and wasn't ideal for my kids and a big stroller. Luckily they had outside seating available which was perfect. Our waitress was really nice and was quick to accommodate us. The food was great. Classic american ma and pa diner menu items, sandwiches, soups, hamburgers etc... I got the club sandwich with onion rings. The club sandwich was huge and stacked high while the onion rings were cooked to perfection. My toast came out 10 minutes before the food and was cold. The service was extremely slow. Even though there wasn't many people here. And $14 for two eggs hash browns and fruit to go is way too much money considering there was no meat. They did keep the coffee filled that's the redeeming quality there. My friend took me here and told me it's one of the best breakfast place in the area. Very cute and cozy place. It wasn't packed when we went so we were seated right away. Service was great and price was super cheap. I'm from the South so naturally, I got the Country fried steak and although it was tasty, it was too much batter for me. I'm also not a huge fan of huge biscuits but my friend loved it. I also got the blueberry muffin which was huge and delicious. Portion was huge so I took about half of my breakfast home. I would recommend Janet's if you're in the area. read more

I came with two other people the other day, and we sat outside. I wouldn't recommend outside, since the ground is slanted, so you'll be sitting slanted (at least in the middle aisle). Given two utensils, and asked for another, which never came, and we weren't helped attentively, so I grabbed the utensils that are already outside. My coffee came in a chipped cup that was also dirty with sticky residue all over the rim. After waiting 5-10 mins the waitress (Krystin) came, and I asked for it to be taken off my tab, and she seemed annoyed and said "I can just change the cup," but I changed my mind on coffee. Also, there was a brown leaf thing in my water, and she responded "it's just from outside." Without a "oh I'm sorry." Right off the bat she seemed rude, and lacking in customer service. After I gave my two cups she only made eye contact with my friend. Below average customer service. $0 tip. Mediocre overpriced breakfast food. Maybe other food on the menu is good. Their desserts looked good. French toast is always a risk to get, but I wanted to try it. Very eggy, and undone in the center pieces. I recommend not getting it. A kids meal is still adult sized, so just keep in mind if you order the kids pancakes because they're two giant pancakes. Too bad I didn't take pictures. Also, our plate that had our maple syrup on it had orange pieces on it, but at least the maple syrup is in its own container. I would never come back here, but it's no big deal to the business. Just not a great experience my first time, and the place isn't worth it to try again. read more

The customer service is outstanding! On top of the outstanding service, the entire place is so clean (which I greatly appreciate) We had the country fried steak and eggs and chorizo omelet. Both fantastic! The line looks long but it's deceiving because they get you in so so fast! Again, this is a wonderful breakfast spot and I'm glad to have come. Side note, the atmosphere out back is beautiful and even better because everything from the tables to the umbrellas to the floors are spotless! When the service and food are amazing along with everything else I mentioned, you can see why I say 5 stars. Great family place! read more

Our first visit and highly impressed. I ordered the pumpkin pancakes, eggs and bacon. The server asked me if I wanted the cakes topped with butter and powdered sugar. No thank you. Did I want the bacon extra crisp. Yes please. I did want the cakes cooked extra dark, they were not. However, good pumpkin flavor. Wish they had real maple syrup. RJ ordered a custom omelette with sausage, spinach, asparagus and jack cheese. It was delicious. She ordered the biscuit, the size of a grapefruit! And tasty! This is definitely a place that I will come back to if I get lazy about making breakfast. The pancakes were amazingly fluffy when fresh and was still decent as a leftover meal. I ordered the country fried steak and was very satisfied. The gravy was rich enough that I really didn't need anything else to go with it. The last time we came here, it took over 45 minutes to get our food. We only ordered 3 plates. During that time, we saw the waiter when he took our order and then maybe 15 minutes into our wait, he checked in on us. Other than that he was a no-show. Something had to be wrong because there were other people who sat done AFTER us and received their food BEFORE us. At the 40 minute mark, I flagged down the host to tell us of the long wait. At the 45 minute mark, I flagged down another waitress, and told her we were going to walk out. She went and got the manager. The manager said they "got a new system" and are still working out the glitches. Apparently our order never got put in. Yet, the waiter only checked on us once. Other tables with young kids received complimentary fruit and ours did not. When we received the food, some parts were cold and some were hot. Hash browns were mushy. Scrambled eggs were runny. The manager ended up comping the meal, which is the only reason why they are getting 2 stars instead of 1. It's going to take a lot of convincing in order to get us to come back to such abysmal service and poor food quality. read more

She took our order and seemed like she wasn't as happy. :( She wasn't mean but just alright. Maybe she needed coffee. Food: Pork Chops with Eggs, fruits and toast My eggs were cooked to my liking (since I always order it scrambled-extra hard/burn. The pork chops were grilled to perfection. Tender and very flavorful. I've always loved Janet's in Santee for many, many years. I've watched the servings shrink and prices go up. But today kinda did it. I ordered a chicken Caesar wrap. Brought it home to split with my daughter. We were so disappointed. Boiled chicken wrapped with shredded lettuce. That's it. Almost half the size they used to be. And walked out the door with a wrap and a side that comes with it for $19.95! No comment on the person who took my order. I'm bummed out, I love this place. read more

The service is always good. Generally the food is great. I had their spinach omelette with the country potatoes. The potatoes are nothing to write home about. I not sure if they are frozen or not but they don't seem to be freshly cut potatoes and not cooked with any herbs or Seasoning except for a some salt. They could benefit from changing the type of recipe they use. read more

Great little place in a small plaza in Santee, CA. I wouldn't have discovered it without fellow Yelper's reviews. So, thanks! This is a breakfast and lunch place, so no dinners. Their breakfasts are varied and unusual along with standard fare like omelettes, eggs with meat and hash browns, pancakes, etc. What sets them apart in my opinion are their daily specials and their fresh, in house baked goods. First meal I ate was a chicken fried steak. It's my go to and the bar by which I judge all restaurants. The steak was good. Crispy on the outside nice and tender too. Their gravy was also very good. My eggs were poached perfectly. My ONLY fault, and this is personal preference, was the biscuit. It's one of those humongous, cake-style things. I prefer a smaller, rolled out type that is less like a cake and more flakey. Like I said, it's a personal preference. I know others would disagree. Next time I'll order sour dough toast. My next b'fast was the green salsa chilaquiles with carne asada, beans and eggs. It was sooooo good. I haven't had this since our last trip to PV and this topped those. They bake a number of different muffins and a great coffee cake. They even served fruit to the grandkids BEFORE their meal and always kept our coffee cups full. Service was top notch. We are here for a month and I won't be going anywhere else for breakfast. If I lived here they would have a new loyal customer for life. read more

My favorite place for brunch in Santee. I've been here so many times and have been satisfied every time. Definitely a "bang for your bucks" type of place because each entree comes with sides. For breakfast I usually get the spicy breakfast sandwich and ask for it in a spinach wrap. What I love most is that they let you substitute almost anything! It usually comes in a croissant but you can have sandwich break, muffin, wraps, etc. For the sides, even if it's breakfast but I'm craving their mac salad, I can replace my fruit with it. I've also replaced with salad or pancake! Not many places allow you to replace with so many options. Also, not shown on their menu are their crepes but you can definitely order! They've told me they can put anything (sweet or savory) if they have the ingredients. *Note that their crepe isn't like the super thin ones, I would say it tastes more like a flatter pancake. I've also had their pies and the strawberry banana one is my fave! The custard in it is amazing. They usually give you a Big slice as well! read more
