Food was the worst ever. Service was ok. Ambience was ok. Would not recommend this place.

Me and my husband came to El Cajon Janet's at 9:05 am got seated right away. No rush of people. Server was rude. Cut me off while I was ordering. As we waited we watched two other couples be seated and a party of 4 order, ALL got their orders while we still sat there waiting. We eventually decided to leave. Not to mention our silverware setting was filthy that had been sitting on the table before we got there, had flies and old food on it. The people next to us had to send a coffee cup back because it had old lipstick on it. Called after we left manger offered no explanation or concern and directed me to website. HORRIBLE staff and service. Been going to this location for years I'm not sure what has changed but it's not a good change. read more

I recommend this place 100%! Jenna was our waitress, she was the most respectful and attentive waitress I seen in a very very long time. It was so refreshing!! Janet's is a run of the mill greasy spoon though done pretty well. They have some tasty baked goods and the normal dinner fair. They have a few vegetarian options and an açaí bowl which is pretty cool. Prices are a bit high but it beats Denny's by a long shot. read more

Came here for breakfast, the servers were very friendly, the food came fast and tasted great. I had french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. I enjoyed the fact they leave you a coffee pot at the table. I sat outside and had long dog hair flying at my food because of the breeze and because everyone outside had a dog with them. That was my only negative part. If you have a dog, they're very dog friendly. I just know not to sit outside now even though I really enjoy fresh air dining. read more

I have worked in restaurants when I was younger that had great service and food . My girlfriend and I have visited restaurants all over San Diego. We have never had this quality of service even while fine dining. The service was incredible we never had an empty coffee cup, the food was faster than the drive thru the night before, and talk about hot,fresh and delicious! I have been to this restaurant once prior a year ago with Ms. Dorothy, a long time real estate agent in El Cajon and was pleased with the service then. This time around, NOT SO MUCH. I had just underwent two hours of surgery and my mother and I decided to get breakfast. I was the one who recommended Janet's Cafe. As soon as we sat down, the busser came over and asked what we wanted to drink. I informed him, one cup of water and one coffee. After he left, I recorded a quick video of the menu and the inside of the restaurant because I wanted to leave a review about how much I had loved it. An old waitress by the name of JEN I believe, walks right up to our table and stands there smiling condescendingly at me without saying a single word. Just standing there. Smiling.. I just looked up and said "Hello! How are you?" She said "GOOD." And still stood there just smiling. I informed her we already ordered our drinks. A few minutes later she walks up to the table again, she is about 1 ft away from me, but this time with her phone straight in my face and laughs and says in a very RUDE WAY "I love recording everything hahaha." So I played it off by saying "oh it's okay, I do too. I love recording beautiful places and leaving reviews and getting others to come experience restaurants that are great." My God, she gave me a disgusting look once I said that. She goes on a rant telling me I'm invading people's privacy and how the world these days is all about social media and how I shouldn't be recording inside a public place and I looked at her and said "Is that why you gave me a pure dirty look?" And she said "hahaha YES" (still smiling like a cruel villain). I completely lost my appetite. I explained that sometimes a quick video holds memories that will last years and years, even though everything has changed, a video or photo captures that time and moment. She was not sold and still was SO RUDE. I refused to eat at that restaurant. My mother enjoyed her breakfast, but MY GOD that was the most horrible waitress I have ever encountered. Horrible customer service. If you don't want any customers having a phone or recording the food or your restaurant to post a review, post up signs that instruct so. I just think this ***** woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I would have reacted differently if I hadn't been in so much pain because of my surgery. read more

We have occasion to drive by this place quite frequently, but have never stopped in to eat. We strolled in for breakfast about 9 o'clock on a Monday morning after dropping one of the dogs off at a nearby vet. The atmosphere is quaint and local and offers counter seating if you so desire. I, of course, got the Chicken (Country) Fried Steak. It comes with the standard faire of potatoes, eggs and choice of bread. I didn't even have to ask if I could substitute a pancake for my choice of bread, as it is an option built-in to the menu. If you opt for a pancake, you actually get two. Bonus! The CFS itself was tender and full of flavor. I ordered the eggs over-easy and they were served just like I like them. The country potatoes were crisp and full of flavor, and the pancakes were fluffy and delicious. The service was fast and friendly and the coffee was never empty. Located at Greenfield and Main, Janet's is conveniently located with easy access on and off the freeway. I would definitely not hesitate to return. read more

I'm not pleased to have to do this but the last visit was HORRIBLE! My score is only a high 3 because breakfast has been on point and I've never been disappointed so they get a 3. So I bragged about this place to my mom and family, so I met my mom there with my spouse for lunch. I can't believe we were even served what we got as in my mom and I. I got a roast beef combo and it literally had 2 thin slices of meat and a huge amount of lettuce and tomato. A TINY amount of mayo in the middle of the thick bread ONLY on one side. The fries were good, the soda my partner had was good as well as her breakfast she got for lunch. My poor mom took a bite of her chicken in her salad and said "oh please taste this" well me being me I smelled it, it was SOUR smell and taste. It was NOT the dressing that it gets marinated in such BS. How would the cook and server like to eat our lunch and pay the fees. I asked for a to go container as I was sickened by what I was served and ask for extra meat. Your server/business had the nerve to charge me 6 bucks for 3 slices of meat. I WILL NEVER go to any of your restaurants after seeing what you give people. I'm still pi$$ed you charged me 6 bucks. So now us 3 will never go back nor will my daughter and her family, nor will my step son and family. As I think about it you don't deserve 3 stars. 2 stars are for your breakfast ONLY. They charged us for toast the amount of a whole loaf in the grocery store shame on you. read more

This place has friendly and attentive staff . My bf and I come here at least once a month . We always order the cinnamon French toast and the corned beef plate . Coffee is good and they carry flavored creamer . They have a designated outdoor patio area which is pet friendly. Restrooms are clean and there's plenty of parking. read more

We accidentally ended up at Janet's! We were headed for Jack in the Box for drive thru and saw Janet's next door so we gave it a shot! We were surprised they had dine in and patio seating! (First Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, Corona restrictions were just easing up) Th seating was very conservative, the staff was very friendly and extremely diligent about safety, sanitizing and yes service!! She didn't want to split our bill which i understood but she demanded for us to leave (20% tip) which we were going to tip regardless. This place is just down the street from my work, and they are quick and accomidating for larger to-go orders. While everything on the menu looks good, I am partcial to their half sandwich and soup special. Makes for a perfect lunch at work, especially hot tomato soup on a rainy day. So far my favorite has been their tomato bisque with a grilled cheese sandwich. That's my comfort food. Staff is friendly, but I have also only done to-go orders so I don't know what their servers are like. From the appearance this is just a cute, quant place and a breath of fresh air from chains. Went for breakfast this last weekend in search of anything delicious. My bf lives just around the corner and so off we went. Janet's is your typical cafe located in a strip mall parking lot with older decor, but a real homey feel. Our server was really nice and helpful. Believe it or not, I think she actually liked her job :-) My daughter was jonesing for a Hamburger and she was able to get that for breakfast (not bad huh). I had the Spanish omelet with peppers, onions, tomato's, smothered in a salsa/enchilada sauce. It came with home fries and a biscuit ....which was way too much for me, but all just under $9. The house coffee was also really good, which isn't usually the case when it's massed produced. My bf had the typical eggs, toast, sausage, waffle....so much on your plate you want to go into a coma after you finish it meal...but he loved it too. This place really reminds me of Yana's in Lakewood, CO...just good food that is close to home. I guess you can't ask for more than that. The only reason for the fallen star was that they didn't have any Mimosas or Bloody Mary's on their menu....a must have for brunchies! read more
