I stop here every few years or so when one of my friends is feeling nostalgic. They've got a killer breakfast, and a pretty decent club sandwich. One of the best things on the menu, which isn't pictured here is that biscuits and gravy. They have fantastic servers and they really old school. Small diner vibe. The booths are a little small, but you can work with that. There's plenty of parking, so that shouldn't be an issue. If you're looking for a great breakfast or a little diner for some coffee and pie, this is gonna be your spot.

We love the homestyle vibe at Janet's. My husband had the machaca omelet which was the special for that day. He said it was very good and full of lots of flavor. You could tell the meat was homemade because there was a bay leaf in the omelet. My husband said the home fries were good but some of them were not cooked all the way and needed about 5 minutes more on the grill. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet with hashbrowns. The omelet and hashbrowns were so filling, I had to take half of it home. My toast was delicious with the perfect amount of butter. The server was so nice, she brought me alot of vanilla creamer for my coffee. For the amount of food you get and the great service, you definitely get a great value here at Janet's. We will definitely be returning again.

Had fantastic pancakes at Janet's - both the traditional and the cinnamon roll ones. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and they give you a side of salsa. For me the biscuits and gravy were just ok, needed a lot of pepper added and I didn't love the biscuit texture. Homey place with plenty of parking and seating. Service was quick and attentive but not rushed. Will be back!

Wow what a great breakfast spot! I didn't even realize there was another location other than the santee one. Parking is a bit tight but man, worth it. They do have outdoor seating and saw some dogs on the patio. We came Sunday morning for brunch and our group of 4 was seated immediately. Menu is good size and staff were very friendly. They have this big pie display in the front and the slices are hugeeee! Everything is well priced and it was all so delicious. Heaping mound of butter on the pancakes which is perfect and all our plates were cooked perfectly. We also love we have all the condiments on the table already to make it accessible. I can't wait to bring more people here it may be my next new breakfast spot!!

It's a good restaurant. I have only had breakfast there. I like the biscuits and gravy. One person probably could not eat all of it and maybe they offer a smaller plate. I always get the full order of biscuits and gravy and share it or take some home. I like the sausage links too. It gets full inside during peak hours but they have outdoor seating. Good service, nice place to eat.

Absolutely adorable cozy ambiance as you walk in! Real down home food. I had the Corned Beef Hash and Eggs with Pancakes. My friend had a HALF order of Biscuits and Gravy. Everything came out piping hot and scrumptious! Can't wait to go again.

Another breakfast at Janet's in El Cajon. As always, Janet's Cafe delivers a great breakfast. The cafe was busy, but the food was served quickly and at the right temp. While not a large establishment, the place is efficient. Sarah, our server was friendly and quick. Met a friend for breakfast here and it was a wonderful little place, a bit out of the way but definitely worth giving it a try. The staff was friendly and kept the coffee filled, it wasn't too noisy so you can have a conversation with someone and it reminded me of an old school diner. The muffins are great but so was the spinach omelette. read more

Best Breakfast & Lunch Café I've seen in a long time. I had the burger, with coleslaw, my girlfriend had the hot turkey sandwich. The Burger... I would stake my reputation (as a former broiler chef and food reviewer) on the fact that the meat was of the highest quality. The coleslaw was so good, my girlfriend tried it, and immediately asked if they had some to go. After wolfing down my meal, I looked with hope at my girlfriend, and yes, she was full, (she's tiny) but had left me plenty! I tried her turkey, gravy, and mashed potatoes, and quickly got my appetite back, and ate it all... The turkey, was moist & tasty, the gravy, was luscious, and Perfectly seasoned. The mashed potatoes were homemade, like everything else. It was all so good, I'm still feeling a bit emotional. Seriously- it is like homemade. -They close at 2:30pm, Go! read more

Their food is always good. The muffins are fantastic and they are home made. The vegetable soup was great and made from scratch. I ordered a carrot cake from them for Thanksgiving. It was very heavy. Believe me for a big family the cake would be perfect. The service is always good. I never have to ask for anything. There's always someone asking if you want something. I will give them a 10 for service and good food. I highly recommend them. read more

Went there for lunch, super friendly and attentive staff. Great menu, I got the country Benedict my buddy got the grilled ham and cheese. Both were excellent and a ton of food. My two stars comes from the 4 dollar ice tea, seriously 4 bucks for ice tea. Come on how much does it cost to make tea 0 point nothing. Is this the equivalent of the thousand dollar plungers that the government buys? read more

Janet's has to be one of the best kept secrets. I have been going here for years and have never been disappointed. Not at the El Cajon location. The service is quick, the food is hot and the staff are nice, and they are personable.Its why I continue to visit. This location is small, and you may miss it if you blink, but it is warm and inviting ones you fet inside . Oh, they have outside seating as well. Go visit, you woill not be disappointed. read more

Extremely disappointed with my first experience at the cafe. Service was so so. My pancakes had a hair cooked into it... made me gag. All server did was replace the pancakes with new ones after I pointed it out. Food overall was nothing to write home about. Most likely won't be back. read more

I love this Janet's location especially for the food and staff! I have been to both locations and love the atmosphere of the outdoor cabin feel at the alpine location but it doesn't compare to the elcajon location by far! The El Cajon one has staff that is super attentive to their tables. The food is fast, hot and yummy. My favorite is their cold brew because the taste as well as they put it in a glass mason jar so when the creamer is added it's very pleasing to the eye to watch. I love the family feel they have here which is why I'm always coming back!! read more

This is the breakfast and lunch spot to be!!! The service was amazing never let my drink go empty, Always making sure I had anything I needed plus more. I ordered chicken fried chicken with creamy gravy it came with fresh veggies and side of mash potatoes, that came with either a salad or soup. I choose the chicken tortilla soup and it was bursting with flavor. That plate didn't stand a chance. My friend ordered granola French toast and that not only smelt, looked good but was tasty. They do offer outside sitting as well as indoor. They also offer delicious desserts. read more

Very racism at this place. Old lady in front register the most rudest person you can have as a owner or manager. Such great food and always amazing service!! Additionally, their gluten free options are so much better than other cafes in the area. They have really good bread, and it can even be used in the making of french toast!!!!!! I haven't had french toast since I was a little kid so I am so excited to be able to eat it there! 10/10 recommend Janet's, also their coffee is great :) read more

I came here for breakfast, but I was not in the mood for breakfast. So, luckily for me they allow you to order off the lunch menu during breakfast. I decided on a patty melt on rye with grilled onions, and instead of fries, I decided to have hash browns to give it that breakfast theme. My meal also came with a long spear pickle. Food was not great at all, overly portioned to make up for the lack of quality. My "country eggs Benedict" were so bad. Eggs over cooked, they got my cousins omelette order wrong and the refire came back under cooked. Service was good which is why I gave 2 stars. Overall, I won't be back. read more

Price: It's no more expensive than say, Dennys or Ihop. Middle of the road and they have lots of options. A decent meal for two - 50$. Service: Each time we have been, the servers have been great. Nice servers and even when the guy had to tell us they were out of chicken, he was super apologetic. No complaints on the service. Overall: It's a nice place... when they have the advertised food. So I honestly don't know if we will be back or not. Maybe we will give it a shot but I don't want my daughter to be disappointed again. I get it, if it was something they only made 50 of a day, I'd understand. But... chicken and waffles? Hmmm...

We had a table of 6 and our waitress was awesome. She remembered all our requests and happily split all our tickets. Because we were a party of 6 they automatically added the tip which made it very simple. I had the pico burger with onion rings. It was a lot of food and the onion rings were good. We didn't feel rushed and were able to sit & visit without feeling pressured to leave after we ate. They have a menu board that shows the daily specials. I'll be back.

The croissant was buttery and flaky, stuffed with eggs and cheese, and everything tasted fresh. The potatoes were well-seasoned with peppers and onions, nice crisp on them, and the sauce on the side added a good kick. Portion size was solid too, definitely filling. Service was awesome and the inside decor was a sight to see too. Overall, great breakfast spot with good flavor, presentation, and quality. I'll definitely be back to try more off the menu.

If you like excellent service, great food, and an affordable menu, then Janet's is the place for you. I don't want to order off a computer, I don't want a server, then a table runner, and finally a third person that brings you the check. I want one server from start to finish and that's what you get at Janet's. My water glass and coffee cup are always filled without asking, every type of condiment is brought to my table before my meal, and the waitress actually waits until you have had several bites of your meal before asking if everything is okay. This place is truly a "Remember when..." gem!! read more

Shirley and Franciso they are always very polite and friendly. So glad this place is really close to my home. Don't forget their delicious pastries.
