After coming here, I can confidently say this was the worst salon experience I've ever had. The stylists are talented, but management completely ruins it. Don't bother booking a time, appointments clearly don't mean much here. The client before me was late, and instead of staying on schedule, they started that client late, which pushed my appointment back even though I arrived 20 minutes early. Someone else's lateness shouldn't affect a client who showed up on time. I told my stylist I needed to be out by 10 p.m., but I didn't leave until 1 a.m. I understand things happen, but communication is key. When I calmly asked if a discount could be considered for the delay, I was threatened with having the police called, and even worse, told they'd cut my hair off. That's how they handle clients. If you value your time and self-respect, I wouldn't recommend this salon. But if you're looking for something cheap and chaotic, maybe this is your spot. And to management, do better. Cussing out and threatening a young adult isn't strength; it's a lack of respect. At your age, you should be setting the example, not losing control. read more

Run... I stopped in for box braids. I asked for Medium bra length. We verified by a pic in a book in the shop. The stylist rushed my hair, gave me large boxes and tried to charge me medium price. The owner told her it was large and she got mad. Refused to make it right and threatened to take my hair down. Visiting this shop was the worst decision ever. The owner said she was a fill-in for her regular braider but I'll never visit again. My ends look a mess and I felt like I had roughly 20 braids. read more

DONT GO HERE .I DEALT WITH THE OWNER HERSELF AND IT WAS TERRIBLE.I would not recommend this place to anyone.... It gives off the vibe off someone working out of home .... If I could give this place zero stars I would.... I went in for a dye job I wanted a vibrant ginger .... I even showed her a picture and asked multiple times if she could do the color she said yes ... I as well as other people were waiting for on stylist ... she switch between all three of us ... we never discussed price she ended up charging me 100 dollars ... she went on to bleach my hair . And then and on a honey blond color I spent over 3 hours in her for one dye and bleach process with should take about an hour-an hour and a half I kept explaining to her that's lighter than what I wanted at one point I was fed up .. because she told me she could do it multiple times.she kept telling me I needed a certain color that she didn't have she would need to leave the store . SO JANICE IF YOU DONT HAVE THE SUPPLIES SAY THAT . I SHOWED HER THE VIDEO SO MANY TIMES . She ended up bleaching my hair twice and toning it 3 times at this point I just agreed to the color she was trying to convince me it was . Trust me I get it it's a hard color to accomplish but if you couldn't do it just tell me no . Okay. So glad I found this salon on Yelp. I wanted an affordable place to get extensions without having to schedule an entire day at the salon. I wanted to get my hair done where I would not be held hostage under the dryer so other heads could be styled while I sat. I wanted someone with experience who does a great job. I wanted a place to get my hair done without trash talk. So, I got all this here. Janice promptly returned my phone call when I had questions about hair. I ordered hair from her, but you can also bring your own. She gave me really great advice about would be best for the health of my hair. I had no wait time, and was really pleased with the result. She also accepts cards, which is really convenient. The salon is upstairs in two story building right across from Titanic, the Experience. She has been at this location for 10 years. read more

I contacted another Yelp member on here and she was a Godsend for referring me to Janice Beauty Salon. This review is overdue. I was happy the 1st time I saw Janice about two months ago. So I went to see her again on APR 18, the day before my B-day and she worked me in on an emergency last-minute notice. Bless her heart! Janice is sooooo super sweet and patient. She she never makes you wait long periods of time before she works her wonders on your hair, is always on time and very professional. She takes great pride in what she does and works tediously to amend anything you notice needs to be tweaked (even days after your appointment) Her installs are flawless. I came here to get two feed in braids and I'm so glad I did. Not only was Shanice amazingly sweet and accommodating, she's braided my hair perfectly. I'm a tenderhead and she was so incredibly gentle and somehow managed to get the braids tight without pulling my face up. I was in and out in 40 minutes. That's the fastest anyone has done my hair and I'm honestly looking forward to coming back. read more

While on vacation I decided to get my hair blown out & found Ms. Janice's salon via a Google search. The reviews were positive so I decided to give her a try. Going to a new hair stylist is always a risky decision for me because I have fine hair. I'm mixed so my hair isn't typical black, white or latin hair. Its curly & thick but also fine and soft at the same time. I always inform the stylist of this and request that they don't use alot of products or heat on my hair. I also explain that my hair holds a lot of moisture. Well I explained all this to Miss Janice & she still used too much heat. Although she didn't use a lot of product in it what she did use was too heavy for my hair. I just went in for a wash, blow dry and flat iron. But I also I requested to have my end bumped under with the curling iron. Miss Janice protested by stating that the curling iron would do the same thing as the flat iron. First off, that isn't true as the curls will hold longer with the curling iron vs. the flat iron. Second, as a paying customer what I request should be honored regardless of what the stylist feels about it. Just my opinion and seeing as how I'm paying for the service my opinion should be the only one that matters. Anyway, she did okay with my hair. She used a bit too much heat and too much product but it looked nice when I left the shop. However, I could tell there was something off... I couldn't place it at the time but the next morning I knew my fears weren't for nothing. I could tell that my hair had been fried. Miss Janice had used so much heat that the my hair was dry, frizzy and fried. The next morning my hair looked a hot mess and just as I predicted the curl didn't remain. This was confirmed by my regular stylist when I went in to have her look at my hair. She stated that my hair had been "burned" and show me all the fly aways present that normally aren't there. My hair is usually smooth after it's been dried and flat ironed but now there were little hairs popping up everywhere. My stylist said that it'd take awhile to get everything back to normal but thankfully the damage was reversible. **thank goodness** Miss Janice was very personable, provided swift service (in and out in under an hour) and my hair did look good when I left the salon. However, all of that gets canceled out by the damage she did. I've been to white, Latino and black stylists over the years. Any licensed stylist should know how to work on different types of hair. Miss Janice not knowing that she should have used less heat on my hair is inexcusable. She's in no way a horrible stylist. In fact, I'd say still give her a try if you are so inclined... just be warned of the risk. read more

If you are a part of or support the LGBTQ+ community and are looking for quality, and professional service, then this is definitely NOT the place for you. I went to this place to have my box braids removed and honestly, if I could report this place to someone in power I absolutely would. My experience was awful. Firstly, Janice double booked myself and everyone else that had Appointments. I waited about an hour after my appointment time while she finished up with someone else, and the person after me waited about two hours and even commented that it was going to take a while for her to take out my braids, which it did. (Every time I have gotten my braids taken out in the past, it takes about two hours. But Janice took four.) Secondly I had gone to this place one time before and got charged $60 for the same size and same length of braids. Janice did not tell me that she upped her price to $80 and I even showed her picture proof of the last time that I was there and the receipt for how much she charged me. She ignored me and played dumb and acted like she did not remember until I showed her the receipt. The she went on to say that this was her price and if I didn't like it I could leave, this was when she was already halfway into my hair. Thirdly, while I was in her chair, she was on the phone with a phone company yelling in my ear at the customer service representative because apparently they charged her incorrectly for her bill. I felt it was extremely unprofessional. What was the absolute worst part was that she began discussing with the clients that were waiting how disgusting the LGBTQ community is. She kept referring to trans people as "tranny" and how parents who let transgender kids be themselves are "ruining their lives". She also went on to say that the people should be able to live the life they want to live, but they should never be able to raise kids because that also will destroy a child and it's "wrong". She also went on to talk negatively about two of her other clients who were in the LGBTQ community and how they were bizarre and weird for how they raise their children. They spent about an hour mocking the LGBTQ community. And I was so angry because I myself am a part of The community and my fiancé is trans. I felt like I couldn't say anything though, because I have no idea what this woman would do to my hair. The other woman doing hair kept trying to change the subject and say that people should be able to live their own lives, but Janice kept bringing it up. I absolutely understand you having your own opinion, but you have no idea Who is in your seat. And those sort of opinions should not be discussed In front of people you don't know. Safe to say I will never be returning to this place again, I believe it to be extremely unprofessional and I will discourage anyone from coming here if I can. read more

The hair dresser could not get my hair to the color I wanted even though I've gotten this hairstyle many times with multiple hair dressers before, and did not have the proper dying products to do so. Quoted $55 to have my 8yr old daughter's natural hair braided and beads added. She charged an extra $20 to wash my daughter's hair. My daughter has been going to the hair salon for the last 5 years and a wash/shampoo has always been included in the price of the braids. I gave her $80 and walked out. We had planned to get box braids in 2 weeks. Janice thinks because her shop is in a tourist area she can just make up prices. Also my daughter had to wait 1.5 hrs to get her hair done. I got a sew-in annd my hair was pulled too tight. I got my hair done several times by Janice. She kept telling me that my hair was getting thicker each time and to come every 2 weeks for her to wash my hair. I did this. As well as let her take down and reapply the weave. I didn't notice that my hair was thinning and that I had started developing bald spots where the sewing was done. Ijanice had to have noticed, but continued to tell me how thick my hair was getting. I believe she was covering up to continue to get business. Very unethical. Also, she bought the weave and charged me for a good quality weave but purchased cheap weave that shredded. read more

I took my daughter to this "salon" to have twist braids done, this "stylist" claimed to know how to do this style of braiding, After she finished with my daughter's hair, we noticed that the sections of hair she used for the single braids were too large and we could see large parts of my daughter's scalp, the braids also started to unravel within an hour of the braids being "done". This "salon refused to refund not even half of the money I paid her after seeing the result of her work. Do not go to this salon, I don't think that this Janice person is licensed to style hair and she doesn't know what she is doing. read more
