Loved Janik's cafe! They had the seasonal pumpkin pie that I tried with my veggie omelette. Plenty of portions that I had extras. Hazelnut latte was tasty, it was really good with the oat milk and foam. Service was easy, fast, and friendly. We even got to meet Janik herself! Grabbed breakfast with my husband mid-week and sat outside under their temporary tent, which is nice since it's shaded but still get the breeze. It was fairly slow, I think one other couple inside that we could see and then 1-2 takeout/ to go orders. I believe they had 1 server working the whole restaurant, but it was fine- he dropped off menus and water, took our order, dropped it off and refilled our coffees. I ordered the Nutella banana pancakes, which was 3 large pancakes pleasantly had bananas inside and on top, with Nutella between the layers- they didn't skimp on toppings / filling. And a side of bacon- standard nothing special here but definitely crispy. My husband ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito, which came with rice and beans. He added avocado and potatoes inside. Not the best wrap job but it held up ok until the end. Overall came out to around $50 with tip, incl. 2 coffees. Not too bad...compared to a lot of breakfast places these days. Finally tried Janik's after living in the neighborhood for three years and glad I did! Took the family and everyone enjoyed their meal. I got a Denver omelette with potatoes and upgraded to a berry pancake. All solid! Not the best pancake I've ever had but very solid and would get again. Potatoes were great and crispy! The food was mid, I had a breakfast burrito, I wanted more burrito from the breakfast burrito, although it was not as bad as many burritos that should just be called a wrap. They do work with schools to do fundraisers which is super nice of them, and adds to the food taste in a way. They have weird hours as well, a total breakfast early lunch place. I came here around 12:30pm and they were rushing us out by 1pm by slowing down on water and coffee service. Three of us came here on a Saturday morning for late breakfast / brunch, and the host seated us immediately. We sat at the outdoor patio, which has foldable tables, and from where we could enjoy the bustling neighborhood. They quickly brought out menus and water. It took them a while to get our orders, which I didn't mind as I used that time to catch up with friends. The food came out quickly after we ordered. I had the eggs benedict with ham. They were perfectly poached with the yolk being runny and imbuing the scones once the egg was cut into. The hollandaise was ok. The roasted potatoes on the side were excellent: well seasoned and crispy. I only wish there was some type of vegetable on the dish. They also have free coffee refills which is great when you have a wedding to party at that night. The waiters were friendly and checked in on us regularly without being disruptive. Brick walls, square tiled floors and interesting artwork create a cute atmosphere. The tables are super close to each other so be prepared. Our server wasn't exactly polished. She forgot a beverage. Served the wrong kind requested bread and leaned over my head to reach across the table to pick up plates. While I appreciate her effort to keep our table tidy, I just hated to be so involved in the process. Her service was still efficient and her attitude was on point. Our food was delicious. We happened upon Janik's quite by accident when the restaurant we Uber'ed to was closed. We walked through the bustling patio and into the indoor dining room where we were greeted warmly by the owner who invited us to sit anywhere. We decided to sit outside as it was a beautiful day; we took the last available table. The server arrived shortly thereafter for our drink order. The menu is fairly diverse with lots of options, both American and Latin American and we asked our server for a few minutes more so we could make decision. She returned promptly to take our order -- no long wait which can be typical if you ask for more time to make a decision. My friend ordered a bowl with a side of avocado along with a Bloody Mary and I ordered the chilaquiles with green sauce with the egg scrambled instead of the traditional fried. The Bloody Mary arrived first, slightly spicy, rimmed with salt and garnished with a stalk of celery and a skewer that included pickle, a black olive and a wedge of lemon. I wasn't quite ready for alcohol but my friend graciously shared a sip and it was delicious! Our food arrived shortly thereafter, hot and delicious. My chiliquilles were phenomenal! The plate arrived with a generous helping of eggs atop crispy and delicious tortillas chips doused in green sauce. The dish was accompanied by rice, beans sprinkled with a perfect amount of cheese (cojita?) a dollop of pico, sour cream and extra green sauce. The green sauce had definite kick but not blow your socks off kick. If you're hungry, this is substantial and delicious! I inquired with the server about the sauce and she verified that the sauce is made in house. My friend ordered a breakfast bowl that included eggs, choice of meat, vegetables, cheese, black beans, pico and cheese. It came with a choice of bread, which there were many to choose from. She was tickled to have ordered a brioche roll and declared it delicious. We pretty much killed our respective breakfasts and only left what we were too stuffed to finish. Before leaving, I walked through the inside of the restaurant to the bathroom. I can only describe the interior as happy. Vibrantly colored paintings on the wall, colorful steamers and lights hanging from the ceiling -- warm, homey and happy. The staff was lovely...the owner was warm and pleasant as she bustled on the patio admiring cute babies, laughing with a table of teachers at the end of their school year and picking up the slack to help the staff out. Would definitely return. Satisfying and delicious, warm and friendly. Located in the community of Wicker Park in Chicago, there is a plethora of vintage stores...start your shopping day right by having breakfast at Janik's and if you're not still full from eating breakfast, have lunch there too. read more

I'm sorry to not be able to recommend this place. The salmon meal was very underwhelming and the piece of salmon was scrawny. However, that was the best part of the meal. The reason for the two stars is the absolutely disgusting crab cake sandwich which mainly consisted of bread crumbs and imitation crab sprinkled about. The soup was not a full cup of soup in the delivery, and was not seasoned. To the owner: PLEASE REMOVE THE CRAB CAKE SANDWICH FROM THE MENU. It is a frozen mess of breadcrumbs, and not a good representation of your restaurant. There are plenty of other items to try that likely taste much better. read more

3.5 for me - I have tried this place a couple of times and while it's pretty good and the service is amazing I would say the food was just okay for my liking. The iced coffees are very delicious and we tried the avocado toast which had a lot of lettuce on it which seemed a little random. Also tried the turkey club sandwich was pretty decent. I think my favorite was the pancakes if I were to come back I would order these again. Overall really nice place always filled up and the orders coming quick.
