Writing an updated review for Bongo Room bc I'm always impressed w how the quality of food never drops. Walked in and got a table around 915 on a Saturday. They had two special drinks of the day, an orange/pineapple/mango juice and a watermelon mint lemonade. We got both and both were fuego. The juice was freshly squeezed and you can tell. We each also had a coffee, which was great. The lemonade was so refreshing too. I had the deconstructed lobster Benedict, he had the tomatillo scramble. The lobster Benedict is always good, and today was no different. The pancakes are such a treat and still just as good as ever. The tomatillo scramble was so fresh and tasty too. Service is excellent. I purchased a breakfast burrito and a latte for $35 (I was desperate for both) and unfortunately I won't again. The latte was standard and cost $6.50. The burrito... I thought I put no cheese but I must've forgotten. The cheese is on the outside. So unless you want greasy cheesy fingys I recommend eating this burrito with a fork and knife (I peeled it off). As for the contents. I paid an extra $5.50 for chicken sausage. And $1.50 for mushrooms. Perhaps the tortilla shouldn't be as big as it is so the quantity of the contents of the burrito isn't humiliated. The more I wrestled with the looseness of the flimsy wrap- the more it felt like I was eating a glorified quesadilla. I'm just thinking about how, if I had the time, I could go to the store and buy all the ingredients and make 3 fully loaded, stuffed taught, breakfast burritos for the same price. Also, what's a burrito without beans? The burrito could've used some greens as well, an arugula would be nice. There was no crunch, just a decent amount of smashed avocado (I prefer sliced). I will say, the mushrooms had great flavor. The beige cream dill sauce did not have great flavor. It's a little funny, because looking at the sauce, it seems like there are plenty of spices blended into the sour cream. I had to do a double taste to see if it was my taste buds or if it was the sauce that deceived me. It was the sauce. All in all I'm unfortunately unsatisfied with my burrito purchase. read more

The Bongo Room was a hit for us for brunch! The service was excellent and the servers were attentive and checked in on us frequently (we never ran out of water) without seeming overbearing. We were seated in a booth towards the back of the house near the service area, but the noise level was perfect, allowing us to chat and still hear one another. My chai latte came in a double walled coffee mug, so it stayed warm for the duration of breakfast (really appreciated this!). It had the perfect amount of sweetness and spice. My avocado toast on sourdough was exceptional! I get this dish as often as I can when I'm traveling and eating breakfast out, and this was one of the best! Fresh sprouts, radishes, and arugula, made for the perfect bite! My friends ordered the blueberry pancakes and although I'm not a fan of sweet pancakes, I had to indulge. The pancakes were fluffy enough to take on all of the sweetness and were packed with flavor. This dish is one I'd definitely only be able to share, but it was quite impressive! My husband and I came for brunch with our 10-month old. There is no room for strollers so may not be an ideal spot if you have a younger baby. It was very loud inside and packed but there was no wait which was great. We got our food and drinks pretty quick. The best items were definitely the ube latte and ube pancakes. I like that they have fun pancake options and they're pretty good but $15+ and you can't make them into combos so if you want a balanced breakfast, you have to order two entrees. This time, my husband got the lobster Benedict and I got the ham and eggs and we shared the ube pancakes on special. They charged extra for ham and for egg whites. Our total after tip was $77 for two for breakfast, just kinda insane. My ham and potatoes were cold. Our potatoes were mushy and unappetizing. Especially after asking for extra crispy. I was really looking forward to eating here, but to my dismay, it was another mediocre brunch. Outside of the fact that they sardine pack the place making it feel both claustrophobia and unhealthy in the current climate, I'll focus on the food. The food on the table was BEEF, CREMINI, SPINACH & GARLIC HERB BUTTER OMELETTE: the omelet was good. If you Spanish in your omelets, you can't go wrong here. Inside the folder omelet was the beef, mushrooms and cheese. To me, the flavor just wasn't there. Personally, I feel like food needs to be flavored. seasoned, salted, etc. this was neither. Good idea. Bad execution CROISSANT SANDWICH: I assume they don't make their owns croissants there, but it was bone dry. Add the fact that is was also toasted and the sandwich just crumbled. The rest of it was fine. I admit, it was a fairly boring choice for a place with such interesting sweet options. But sometimes you want a classic. This just wasn't a hit either. WHITE CHOCOLATE & CARAMEL PRETZEL PANCAKES: this is the most popular item in the menu according to our waiter. I'll admit, I asked for the white chocolate and caramel Sauces on the side because I worried that altogether the pancakes would Be cloyingly sweet. What it did do is give me a peak underneath the curtain so to speak. The pretzeL baked right into the pancake itself. So there are hard chunks on one side of each pancake. The entire pancake was super dry. Tasting like a warm soft sweet bread slice. Having a pieces with all the sauces it delicious, but you really can't eat more than two fork fulls without looking for something to cut the sweetness. The vibe for this location is cozy and it's easy to get to from the blue line! Great food, especially the Ube pancakes (tasted like the latte) and their juices. The service was good, we were able to put our name down and they were very accommodating when some of my party was running late and I could sit at the bar as well. Perfectly poached eggs with lobster filling and brioche bread! My husband had the classic and loved it as well. Also they have no gluten free bread BUT they DO have gluten free pancakes! They also always have lots of fresh squeezed juice options. The Benedict was quite disappointing-extremely small and lacked seasoning and lobster flavor. Also blows my mind how they can charge an additional $2 for additional milk, making a latte nearly $7. - WRONGO ROOM - This place is a serious scam. I went here with my family and our experience was beyond awful. Firstly, everything on the menu is overpriced. Their BURNED-TASTING DRIP COFFEE COSTS $4.50, and it came out COLD, as if it had been sitting around for a while, which is suspicious because it took the coffee a long time to come to the table. A simple breakfast of two eggs with potatoes and toast costs $12, and it is absolutely no better than diner food. Adding an extra pancake costs $6.50, and I got a blueberry pancake, which was tiny, and doused in an unpleasant, sickly, gelatinous blueberry sauce. The toast was not toasted and had to be sent back, the sausage was forgotten and only came after my family asked about it. I absolutely do not recommend going to the Bongo Room, and I wouldn't eat there even if someone took me and bought my meal. read more

I love this place! The Bongo Room has been on my radar for years. Today, at approximately 11:00 a.m. I finally made it here. Why did it take me so long! When I entered, there was a good crowd (I'm guessing 90% capacity). The place had a nice mix of families, friends, couples (possibly a brunch date or two), and single diners. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their experience. It is an attractive space. The layout is long, and narrowish with tables in the front and a counter towards the back. I found a spot at the counter, and ordered the Beef & Cremini Benedict; (which comes with house potatoes). My whole meal was delicious! The meat was incredibly tender, the hollandaise sauce was spot-on, and the potatoes were very nicely seasoned. Service was friendly and swift. This is one of my favorite breakfast spots in the city. I alternate between the wicker park and Andersonville locations. The ambiance is cozy and casual. The service is always great and everyone is super friendly. I get the breakfast burrito with mushrooms and jalapeños added inside. They have great salsas (red and verde) - i would ask for a couple of sides super tasty. They also put a aioli sauce on top which is super tasty. The dish comes with a large side of breakfast potatoes. I always order their coffee and a single white chocolate pretzel pancake. It tasted like the canned salmon my mom used to make friend salmon croquettes (that you had to drown in ketchup) with. We also got a house salad with chicken. The chicken had basically no flavor. There was very little dressing (I like dressing) and when we asked for extra (and were happily obliged) and added it... it still didn't have much flavor. Service was great. Ambiance was fine. Bongo Room! This was my first time visiting the Wicker Park location (we usually go to Andersonville), and I have to say, I think I love it a little bit more. While the menu is the same, the vibe is much more cozy and inviting here. We arrived around 10am on a Sunday and were seated right away. I tried an iced vanilla latte which was a winner here! Not too sweet and perfectly creamy. When I go out for breakfast or brunch, I almost always need something sweet and savory to munch on. Our go-to sweet treat at bongro room is the white chocolate caramel pretzel pancakes. I know that sounds like WAY too much and too sweet buy guys: it's not!!! These are the most addictive pancakes I have ever had and they are not overly sweet at all! We love bringing new friends to Bongo Room JUST so they can experience the pancakes. I know how lame that sounds, but they are that good (and maybe we are a little boring that this is exciting for us). For my main meal, I typically get the BLT Benedict. It's my to-got because it's so fresh and flavorful! It comes with the house potatoes -- which aren't my favorite but hey, I won't say no to a potato.
