Dropped off trimmer 10/31, received a call 11/5 saying the part they needed was about $100 I told them to go ahead and order to fix it because after the $50 deposit it was going to be just over a hundred than. Called 11/26 to check on trimmer technician tells me he has tried to call 3 to 4 times and left messages(lies). Tells me it's going to be $225 I tell him we already had a agreement and he tells me I'm just telling you what it cost I told him I can get a new one for $250 and he said not a new one(lies, looked up the price at ace hardware $229). Then tells me the cheapest I can do is $175(where you just ripping me off for an extra $50 in the first place). Jenny and Mark in the lobby were very nice but I won't patronize a business that has liars handling the phone!! Scum bag tech wouldn't show his face when I went in and asked for him either. The trimmers was in multiple pieces when I went in to pick it up too. Jenny was amazing she said she was going to call when the trimmer was put back together and I could pick it up later. I double checked to make sure they had the right number on file because I didn't receive the other calls and I said oh wow you do have the right number. I have been a customer of Janney's since the 1980's. It was the best hardware store in the world. It had everything!!! Tim Janney is a great guy and even though you could buy it on sale elsewhere, I bought my lawnmowers, snowblowers etc. from him. I am now much older and do not articulate due to health reasons. I called for assistance and talked to another Mr. Janney who I perceived as rude, impatient, unfriendly the antithesis of Time Janney. I gave up. I have told everyone how bad I was treated, and they said maybe he was having a bad day. What happened to patience and the customer always come first. Very sad to leave such a sour taste in my mouth for a family business that I have always frequented. read more

By suggestion of a relative who owns a tree trimming service, a Stihl chainsaw would be best for my needs. Janney's was the highest rated in my area for sales and service. Staff was very helpful, knowledgeable and took time to answer in detail any questions I had. read more

Took in an old snow blower that had the wrong belt on it. I could have changed it, but didn't want to bother. It's a simple job, won't cost that much. Dropped it off at Janney's and told them to replace the belt. "No service. Just belt." $16.49 for the belt (fair) $6.00 for Shop Supplies (?) $7.00 for Freight (?) $57.00 for Labor (45 min) $40.00 for Diagnostic What stood out the most was how unfriendly they were from start to finish. Their customer service would get ZERO stars. I'm an easy person to get along with and don't cause any fuss. Man behind the counter was always in a state of anger and frustration, both times I came in. He's just not a happy man -- mean actually. I'm not a Toledo native but have lived here for six years. I wondered if there were a local repair shop for small appliances and powertools near my Deveaux home. Sure enough I found Janney's. It's an Ace Hardware that sells and services their equipment. The sign on the exterior of the shop is upside down. According to an employee, it was sort of a marketing scheme/prank in the 70's and they stuck to it. The logo is even upside-down on their uniforms ... I love that stuff. I took two Craftsman string trimmers and neither one could be rescued so I donated them as parts and Janney's gave me a $20 discount if I purchased something from the shop. I selected an all-electric battery powered model string trimmer. I am looking forward to its long use without needing service. The tech gave me personable attention and helped me select a model that fit my trimming needs. I am grateful for Janney's and look forward to ordering from them as I move away from my gas powered appliances. read more
