    Excellent wine selection

First time in Montreal and wanted an authentic experience. Randomly walked in and was not disappointed! Made to feel welcome from the beginning. We all had something different and every dish was great. Service was attentive without being overly aggressive. Overall atmosphere was welcoming. Will be going back and would highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing dinner of good quality food.

Service was prompt and friendly. Chicken was a little lack luster, too dry for me and sausage over cooked so it was tough. Mussels were nice and fries were ok. Was expecting more.

This place has really good grilled seafood and chicken. Their grilled mackerel was a little bit too salty for me. It was crispy none the less. Their grilled squid was delicious. It was easy to bite into and tasted very fresh. Their grilled chicken was very crispy and tender at the same time. They gave us peri peri Chili sauce and it was delicious to spread it on our chicken. It comes with a side of fries and salad. Their fries were the best fries I've ever had. They were crispy but also not oily at all. They are cut and made in house and each cut was a good size. I could not stop eating their fries! They gave us a lot of fries too. Service was quite slow despite not having a busy night at all.

    Mixed grill platter $40

$40 mixed grilled platter. Bring a friend. Or.. 2 friends, if you are a normal person, unlike me, who has a ferocious appetite befitting a male twice my size. We picked calamari (the only seafood besides sardines you can choose from), lamb, pork, rabbit, and quail (can't choose beef either). All of them were amaaaaaaaaaaaazing! Its simple preparation (and really smart restaurant operation/business plan) brings out the natural flavors of the different proteins and just adds some grilled flavor to it. Delish. We had a little left over for rabbit sandwich the next day too. Shortcomings, staff wasn't as warm as I expected from such a cozy place at this. And a bunch of grilled meats means not a whole lot of complexity or contrast in flavors, even though they did provide mountains of fries.. which we've had plenty of in Montreal.

Disappointing. Call me food snob from New York, but if this Portuguese restaurant is one of the more highly rated mid-range restaurants that Montreal has to offer, then I'm a fool for trusting the reviews. Visiting and in the mood for something Spanish/Portuguese, found this place near the hotel via Yelp. Complimentary Portuguese rolls (basic bread and butter) and olives were provided. --Grilled Shrimp - Do you think $10 for 4 pieces of shrimp you can grill yourself with a chili oil based sauce is worth it? --Chefs Choice - Combo of pork, chorizo, lamb and chicken. If this is a sampling of what their main meat entrees are, then no thanks. The pork was underwhelming in flavor, lamb tasted gamey, chorizo doesn't even come close to tasting like the real thing. The chicken was probably the best thing out of them all with a nice char on them. --Rib Steak - Nothing special. Requested it to be cooked medium well (for the lady) but it came out more undercooked. Flavor was just ok, but not that memorable. Ended up being more fat than actual edible meat so don't let the overall size deceive you. There's no bill handed to you at the end, which is a first that I've experienced. Instead you have to walk up, wait for a server to finish their duties before you can pay. Completely backwards system. New York City Portuguese and Spanish restaurants completely out perform this place for sure.

This place makes it to my Top Ten favourite food spots in Montreal. We eat here atleast once a week!! Their Rotisserie chicken (fries & salad) comes with this sauce which is a game changer. They sell that separately as well, a jar for $10 and I usually end up taking one home to add to food later. I have tried four other Portuguese places in the area but none of them come close to the experience and taste of Jano'sss!!

    Lamb Chops
    Meng Z.

I've been here twice and the food was very average and pricey. During my most recent visit, I had the lamb chops. They were very tasty but my plate consisted of 65% fries, 25% meat and 10% of some sad looking and tasting roast peppers. I am a huge fan of spicy Portuguese cause so I tried some from the pot on the table and it turned out to be huge mistake, the sauce was so salty that my food was almost inedible. What bothered me the most was the amount of oil on the plate, everything was drenched in oil and halfway through the meal, I just couldn't eat anymore.

    Chicken and fries

Ordered the half chicken breast. It comes with french fries and their amazing chili oil. They also serve it with sourdough bread. The food is so good!!!! you spread the chili oil all over the chicken and fries and I can't wait to go back to Montreal just to have this again! The ambience is so lovely, their service is great and the restaurant is so cute! Definitely go here for the best tasting chicken!

    Very nice creme caramel

Honestly, the only reason it's not a 5-star is because the line is always insane and it gets super crowded inside, but the food low-key makes up for it. Def a must-try in Montreal!

Great fries, with chorizo + bits of chicken, good amount of cheese curds and finally smothered w/gravy. I thought the gravy might be an afterthought/not interesting- but no, it was delicious. You walk in the door and all you smell is chicken grilling+ chargrilled goodness. They offer a1/2chicken w/salad+ fries. Since we were ordering the poutine we didn't want those extra sides; we just ordered whole chicken. They'll ask, spicy or not? We got 'spicy' -basically the orange sauce in pics. It's not at all 'spicy hot' -but tastes garlicky, rich and delicious. Great choice. Chicken is Portuguese style; with a chargrilled taste, very juicy and well seasoned. Talked to several people who were near us eating about how great the food was, and found out that like us, several of them were out of towners who'd asked a local "where to eat" in town. Every single person was raving about how delicious it all was. This place is the Bomb! Absolutely a 'Do Not miss' in Montreal. The small poutine we ordered was huge! And the large sized poutine others bought was size of a ham on the large plate. Even with 2 hungry people and my Hubbie is a big dude, we brought almost 1/2 of our food home to finish the next day. Not bad for $34+ tax. PS One pic is from neighboring table's plate- the guy said "Please do take a picture. What a find! I can't believe this place".

Thank god I found it because one large chicken + chorizo poutine can feed my hungry wife and I and we even have leftovers! The fries are fresh, crispy, and the gravy is made with drippings of their own rotating rotisserie chicken. The chorizo sausage is barbecued to perfection. Did I mention they give you a lot of food for the price!? They also have a beautiful bakery with Bolas, strawberry cheesecake, and other fresh-made bakery items. They also have great service, with friendly cashiers, and the quality of food is 6 out of 5 stars. It's my favorite place and I come here almost once a week. They are passionate about their food and generous, and if you don't feel like paying up-the-arse for delicious Portuguese chicken Romados is the place for you. It's homey, they have spicy and mild Piri Piri sauce to choose from, the fries are tasty but not too salty, Chicken Salad is really delicious, and furthermore, they have family options, rice, potatoes, and you can order a half or quarter chicken, as well as other options like soup and barbecue pork (also very good). The prices are what you would expect from a nice restaurant, a bit expensive but fair, and they have numerous selections to choose from. I hadn't tried Portuguese fried sardines before and they were quite delicious, and served with lemon and a spicy piri piri sauce that really enhanced the dish--big portion and had leftovers! The grilled Chorizo was delectable as well, with the charcoal flavor really shining through--not too spicy. My favorite dish was the Pork and Clams stew, a classic Portuguese surf and turf dish that was a little potato heavy but the flavor was perfect with hints of lemon, red pepper paste, and a salty, but not-too-salty brine on the tender pork loin. Another dish I tried was the grilled pork medallions: it was a bit average but still good. The potatoes were a little soggy/not crispy and the green salad was a touch too simple with just balsamic vinegar and olive oil; nothing special, but decent. The grilled Portuguese chicken was pretty nice and had that charbroiled/grilled flavor and the meat was quite juicy. The large serving is enough to share if you aren't too hungry and came with same sides as the pork medallions dish, which felt a bit repetitive... The waiter was very attentive and checked up on our table often. Good service. I prefer Aldea, another Portuguese restaurant a few blocks away, since they had similar prices and a bit better quality, more uniqueness of flavor...but if you are feeling a more homey, family-style energy then Casa Minhota is perfect for you.

It starts with the parking out back, which is about 10 spots immediately adjacent to the rear of the restaurant. Parking there is only for restaurant patrons but there is usually parking on Rue St-Laurent, a most happening of places. The side is a happy Portuguese tiled experience, which I say with authority having dined in the most Portuguese place, Ironside neighborhood of Newark, NJ. The music is extremely well chosen Portuguese modern music which greatly enlivens the entire mood. I cannot say Africa things about the food. We came during Montrèal Restaurant week, locally called MTLáTable, which has C$27 3-course brunch specials which are ssoooo gooood, our party of seven ordered all different dishes and the quality presentation and unique cooking style of each one is to be complemented. Clearly the prep staff made fresh choices of ingredients of every type. Many highs include the unique drinks menu and the happy staff whose attitude make you want to go straight to Portugal, a famously idealized land & people, appropriately so. Salud!
