Came here on a Friday afternoon for lunch. We went there early and were seated quickly, however service was a bit slow. What we swallowed: *UDON NOODLES: This was good, a bit salty but had good flavors. *MIXED GREEN SALAD: The leaves were crisp and the sesame dressing was great. *GILDED BEE *WILD SALMON, HAMACHI, MAGURO BLANCO, MAGURO: Each piece was tasty and fresh. *EL CORAZON *HAMACHI JALAPENO: Always a favorite, this did not disappoint. Tasty fish and the sauce was great. We really liked it here. Although service was dragging, it was a great experience.

Japango is a solid sushi place in the heart of Boulder on Pearl St. It was my first time at Japango so I wasn't familiar with their cocktail program and it blew me away. Sushi joints aren't known for their cocktails but Japango takes it very serious. There are so many options on the menu it was hard to choose. I started with a fun spin on a Mai Tai called Mai-Tide. It was delicious and complex with some fabulous vacation garnish. Yes that is a seaweed strip. (Photo #1) My second was Yorokobi Joy, a spin on a Vieux Carre which is a classic whiskey/cognac recipe. It was boozy in all the best ways with some incredible ingredients. The first sip is the best because you're not ready for the herbal flavor explosion. The Japanese whiskey and cognac balance well with some wild flavors provided by a lovely Amaro (Cardamaro) and Saffron-Plum bitters. The kicker in a Vieux Carre is the Benedictine which glues all the amazingness together. Delish!! Because Japango is on Pearl and it was a football weekend, we had the perfect patio table on the sidewalk for the Friday night Stampede where the CU Buffs band and cheerleaders march down Pearl. What a great night. Go check out Japango when you make it to the always amazing Boulder. Salute . Sorry I didn't get pics of the inside but we were seated outside and there were a million people around since it was Parents weekend. Visiting Japango is always a treat. From the sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere, to the knowledgeable and friendly staff, and the lovely patio on Pearl street, it never disappoints. Over the years, I've gone for happy hour with friends, birthday dinners with family, and date nights with my husband. Sure, it's not cheap, but the quality and creativity of the food and cocktails absolutely justify it. My last visit was no exception. We were seated right on the mall, but our spot still felt a private, with comfy sofas, chairs, and low tables. Our waitress was attentive and cheerful, everything we ate and drank was delicious. No wonder I keep going back!

Located right off Pear Street, Japango is perfect to stop in after doing some shopping on the mall. Service is always quick and friendly. Inside is modern and clean with a wonderful fish tank. Food wise the Diablo roll is a must every time and I really enjoyed Kitsunes Kiss as well. Not pictured, but very much enjoyed, was a tuna hand-roll, sake hand-roll, and shrimp tempura hand-roll. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

Lovely patio on Pearl Street. Wonderful service with fresh tasty fish. The crispy Brussels sprouts were delicious and light, the hamachi jalapeño was light and flavorful- great fish. The chef's choice new style sashimi was so good- one piece each of three of us and we loved all of the fish! The kitsune's kiss roll was full of so many different flavors, we basically fought over it. Really high quality fish, which you would expect at Pearl Street prices. Fun visit with our girl during her Freshman year.

High table in hallway of Japango where she almost got stepped on by same lady (possibly drunk), informed her of Hazel's presence.

I enjoyed the sushi, agedashi tofu, miso soup, thinly sliced seared pieces of beef (forgot name), Salmon Teriyaki and I didn't enjoy their in-house lemonade and side-salad. It is very loud atmosphere, not a place to have conversations. I sat at the lounge and another time at the high tables (Hazel almost got stepped on); however, parking is a challenge and walking to the restaurant is rough, due to being on oxygen. Service is good, attentive to needs!

Tatsutaage 3.9/5-- chicken was fried perfectly but the sauce was def a no. The wasabi was overpowering and it burned my whole face lol

This was my first time. We went on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. When we walked in, we were seated right away. Our waitress greeted us a few moments afterwards. The wait was pretty fair until we waited a little longer for our sushi. Japanese Fried Chicken 3.9/5 -- the only issue was the sauce. Spicy Calamari 3/5 -- the flavor was rich but it was a little too salty Montana 4/5 Sakai 5/5 The space was really nice and beautiful! It had plenty of seating indoor and outside.

Fish quality was great, but items were kinda pricey. The place is definitely a fancy, date-night vibe, which was still fun with friends. Overall, I would question if it was worth the price, but they have some creative makis and more if you're looking for that!

My friend suggested to come here and I'm glad she did. The 3 of us got seated right away in a lounge seating area with a table. It was so comfortable. Our server Vincent gave some great recommendations of sushi rolls. We ordered everything he recommended and they all tasted great but my favorite was the Himalaya which had a good spicy kick to it. We also ordered the salad which had a good ginger sauce. The edimame was also good. We also got some mock tails which was very well crafted and tasted delicious. Everything was really good and I'll definitely be back.

    Magic Mushroom

Stopped in to pass some time while waiting for friends. I was greeted by a friendly bartender and ordered a local brew and a snack, "Magic Mushrooms." Let me tell you - these were the most delicious little bites I have had in a long while. Broiled to perfection and tasty as h-e-double-hockey sticks. 10/10 highly recommend :)

We went here for the all day happy hour on Mondays. The crispy brussel sprouts were a little salty, but overall a good crisp. Then we got 3 rolls and the Monster was my favorite! We finished off our meal with the green tea creme brulee which surprised me. It was sweet and not too strong/earthy, very delicious! We did also get to try the green tea ice cream, courtesy of our waiter, David. Quick shoutout to David for being a blast and the sushi chefs behind the sushi bar, they were all super fun to be hanging around! The food here was delish and the service was super quick!

Izakaya's are Japanese bars that have quick bites and snacks to choose from. I was excited to see we were heading in. Once arrived on Sunday night we were greeted and welcomed. Asked if we would like to take our shoes off and walk in as in Japanese culture this is very common. It really felt like I was in a Japanese izakaya in Japan We ordered - Tofu Steak - Baked Salmon w/ ikura & rice - Duck Skewers - Salmon Carpaccio Everything was delicious and cooked well. I could have ate 2 bowls of the salmon. Everything is nicely sized but a good size to not get too full to order more. This location is combined with another sushi restaurant and it's cool to see the sushi being made in front of you. Will be back!!

The miso soup was heavily watered down - needed either more dashi and / or miso paste to bring it to an acceptable level. I rarely have a good experience with ramen offerings at a sushi place and this was no exception. The "tonkotsu" ramen broth was anything but; it didn't taste anything remotely that would be considered tonkotsu and the noodles looked like it came out of some western version of packaged ramen noodles. The beef "teriyaki" lunch bento was awful. The "teriyaki" sauce tasted watered down and they would have been better off with the 99c bachan's teriyaki sauce from Costco because this sauce was the worst I've ever consumed. I was struggling to taste the components of teriyaki in it. It didn't even have the viscosity of teriyaki either and was this watery mess. The dipping sauce for the potstickers was also some strange spiced anomaly; the sauce that we all know and love isn't hard to make either - it's 1:1 soy sauce and vinegar, and they should have just went with that. The california roll included was ok. It's just overall I feel sad for the folks that live around here as this may be their only exposure to Japanese food and none of it represents anything that could be remotely considered decent. They need to remove the dim sum and ramen options and focus on what they are - a sushi joint.
