Always a fan of Jarasa when we're in Skokie. The bowls are the way to go if you want a lot of food at a good price. Only complaint is sometimes they can wnd up watery if they don't dry the lettuce. The rice and kabob is also good, I eapecially like their yellow rice. read more

Jarasa Kabob is a brilliant go-to for lunch or dinner takeout ...though the restaurant space seems pretty and comfortable. The young staff is always cheerful and helpful, and more than once we've been offered a sample of the amazing and velvety lentil soup as we're waiting to order. Our go to - the LARGE order of lentil soup (don't skip!) and the vegetarian platter. Falafel is crispy and just the right consistency. Hummus and baba ghanouj are flavorful, and it's fun to try a choice of two salads and dressings. All are good. So glad such a great place took over this space ~ it's where the Boston Chicken used to be, so there is plentiful parking and it's easy to get in and out. Today, we got home with our meal and found that one of the sauces were left out. Disappointed, but it won't stop us from going back again and again. I decided to try this place after reading the other positive reviews. My experience this evening was FAR from stellar. I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap and made it a meal with soup and a drink. There was no option to select what soup I'd be getting, but assumed it wouldn't be to dangerous to be surprised with whatever the soup of the day is. I did however write in the comments that my drink selection was vimto. I tracked the delivery of my order because I was hungry, and good thing I did because the driver left my order outside on the ground!!! Did not even bother to ring my doorbell!!! In 30 degree weather, my food was already lukewarm when I brought it inside. I wish I had not pre-paid the delivery driver's tip because they surely shouldn't have gotten one. I'll start with the soup. I can't even guess what kind of soup this is. It's as thick as a custard, I do not see nor did I taste any lentils, so I have no idea what this soup is. It's flavorless, thick and inedible. The chicken shawarma wrap was no better. The chicken is hard and overcooked!! Chicken shawarma, when it is made fresh, is juicy, tender and flavorful. This chicken is the opposite. The chicken is slathered in sauce, likely to try to hide how dry the chicken is. This sandwich is also inedible. Lastly, they didn't even get the drink right!! They sent me a can of Pepsi, which I don't even drink. I've eaten here twice now and both times the service has been great. Whenever I order food it's ready very quickly. They'll even give you extra sauces if you ask nicely! I've tried chicken kebabs, tabouleh salad, and spicy hummus (which is my typical order at a Mediterranean place), but they have a ton of options. The food was flavorful overall, but I unfortunately found the chicken too salty both times. The hummus had a nice presentation as well with spices, hot sauce, and chickpeas, but it was pretty salty as well. Also, it's overall quite expensive for what you get. read more

Placed a pickup order from here. Order was ready on time. The place is bright and clean inside, with the kitchen in plain view behind the long counter. I had really high hopes because of all the great reviews, but I think how they cook some of the food is just not quite to my taste. Both the chicken shawarma and falafel were good, but basically on par with other Middle Eastern restaurants. I liked how there was a greater variety of salads and spreads to put in my bowl compared to other similar restaurants, but they were really hit or miss. In general, things seemed to be way more pureed than I'm used to. Hummus and baba ghanouj tasted great, but pureed to a silk so there wasn't any texture - no sign of the chickpeas or eggplant that went into them. Same with the lentil soup- I prefer having some evidence of lentils. Fava bean salad was extremely sour - to the point where I wondered whether it had gone bad - I couldn't eat it. Muthawma (potato and garlic dip) tasted oddly cheesy to me - wasn't my thing. Fries were fantastic, and the kid's meal was huge. And the fried garlicky pita croutons were a nice surprise touch for the lentil soup. Glad I tried this place, but I'll stick to my other usual spots in the future. read more

Very disappointing. I ordered a lamb kabob sandwich wrap and the lamb was ground lamb! If I wanted a hamburger I would have ordered one! I wanted pieces of lamb not formed ground lamb. I ordered baklava but they didn't have that. I spent a lot of money just to be disappointed. The description was not very clear on the door dash menu nor on the Jarasa menu. A good place for no-frills, tasty middle eastern food. They have a good menu variety and the prices are reasonable. I came here for dinner since I was in the area and wanted some middle eastern food. I had not been here before so, it was an obvious choice for me. It wasn't busy when I got here and had an idea of what I wanted to eat. I ordered one of their bowls. Their bowls are served with a bed of rice or chopped salad and topped with your choice of two spreads, two choices of salads, and your choice of two sauces. I got one with chopped salad with half chicken and half steak shawarma, Baba Ghanouj, Spicy Hummus, Arabic Salad, Fava Bean Salad, Garlic Sauce and their spicy Fire Sauce. The food was good and the taste was om point. I really enjoyed this dish and its flavors. I chowed it down and wanted more. But I am saving it for the next time I go here. It all started with a welcome! This is a walk up counter order place. I saw a huge menu and quickly narrowed it down to kafta and chicken kabob skewers. While I was reading the menu though the "pusher" behind the counter offered me a small taster of the lentil soup. There are a few things that will make me immediately buy something. That little cup of soup was just the thing to push me over the edge. I ordered a cup of soup, the skewers of meat and the yellow rice. I considered spicy rice, but I need a baseline. Everything was absolutely wonderful! The Kafta kabobs were packed with flavor and meat was tender. The chicken kabobs were just as flavorful. The yellow rice was exactly as I expected and the soup was the shining star of the entire meal. I wonder if they sell it by the gallon. My eating experience at this place began as I walked through the doors into this immaculately kept place. It was very impressive to see. Best part was this adorable young girl wearing a hijab with a huge bright smile asking me what I'd like to order. I explained to her; it was my first time there; she offered me the lunch menu. It seemed I ordered everything - Vegetable Combo and House Combo, mixed bowl, Chicken sandwich and plate, homemade Lentil soup; and of course dessert too Pistachio Baklava!! The young gal was so helpful and made my experience a pleasant one...sauces, salads, meats and vegetables; she assured I had every on the menu...and yes...she was right; the "Fire Sauce" was amazing and flavorful...even for an American. I'm still enjoying my meal but had to stop and share what amazing fresh food this is, highest of quality and portions. Everything had its own unique flavor and beautifully prepared. 3 visits to Jarasa Kabob warrant a review. Here's my thoughts on the place. Almost everything on their menu is wonderful. They have decent lunch specials priced under $10 with fries and drink included. They have a good-sized parking lot and my experiences with their takeout are consistent. I get what I order and its ready at the requested time. My favorites so far are their: · Baba Ghanouj · Falafels · Chicken Shawarma wrap · Lentil Soup · Mix grill - A great value that can feed 2-3 people · Pistachio baklava The restaurant is decently sized with a long bench to sit on for takeout patrons. If you want to eat outdoors, they have a few chairs and tables right outside the entrance. If you're planning an event, they offer catering too. You really can't go wrong here. First of all. DELICIOUS FOOD I tried the combo plate and added beef shawarma to it and everything tasted great. The chicken was tender and flavorful and the kabob was amazing. I liked both the spicy and regular rice but will personally stick with regular. Their sauces were delicious and so was their hummus. The falafel was tasty as well but a bit stale. That was the only part I didn't like. They may have given me a couple pieces that were sitting out. I usually like fresh crispy falafel. This place loses a star for atmosphere and execution.. it's an old Boston market and they haven't done anything to the inside. This is new favorite spot! My husband and I happened to stop by for lunch as we were driving around looking for something to eat. We got the chicken and steak shawarma in pita lunch special that included drink and fries. Yoooo let me tell you- that chicken sandwich was so incredibly delicious that we are here again just a week later! It was garlicky, slightly spicy, creamy from the sauce, warm and delicious!! The food is fantastic but out of the 50 or so times I have ordered, more than half the time, there is always something. They forget sauce or ignore requests like "no pickles" or "add onion" or "dressing on the side". I called to speak to the manager about it a while ago as I want them to be successful. I especially liked the cucumber salad and the chicken, which was moist and really well-seasoned. Service was great. Skokie and nearby burbs are blessed with an abundance of very good Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurants, but Jarasa Kabob awoke my palate from the deep slumber of sameness. The menu here is more extensive than most, dinner entrées are accompanied by an extraordinary selection of extras, and everything we ordered was freshly prepared and bursting with flavor. The layout of this restaurant echoes Boston Market, the previous occupant of this space. As you enter, the service counter is on the left and the dining room is on the right. Attractive Moroccan-style ceiling fixtures, large wall hangings, and Arabic music provide the atmosphere. They had run out of paper menus and the menu posted above the service counter was difficult to read. Luckily I was able to bring up the menu on my smartphone. I ordered the mixed shawarma entrée (chicken + beef) and my Missus ordered the steak kabob entrée. While at the counter, we were offered a sample of lentil soup. This was so rich and flavorful that we ordered some to take home. All food is halal certified. A server brought the food to our table. Everything was provided in recyclable containers. The shawarma was easily the best I've ever had. Generous portions of baba ghanouj with pita, fattoush salad, coleslaw, pickled turnips (we asked for these), rice (yellow or spicy), and sauces were included in the price of our entrées - we picked from among a variety of choices. Visited here during covid a few days after their official grand opening on a weekend. This place is super friendly and very helpful with their expensive and vast menu because there are so many options available for every item. For example if you order and entrée there are choices of sides and from those sides there are multiple choices of those sides. I was very pleased to see everything being made fresh and or being made on the spot and recent. There were so many people there working that it was great to see you especially during Covid. Parking is easy as it is in a small strip mall and shares the parking. The food does take some time and I understand that and I can appreciate that so no complaints. However my one complaint would have been that our order was called and given to us and yet was incomplete. Funny when I got home and realize that it was incomplete they were calling me to tell me what I had just discovered. They had forgotten the falafel and asked me to come back to pick it up and specifically asked what time I would pick it up and they even gave me more than I had originally ordered. This was very kind of them and generous considering their oversight but I truly appreciated it. There are multiple multiple Mediterranean and or Middle Eastern restaurants in the Skokie area that have very similar menus.
