Latif was incredibly friendly and a joy to be around. We had a wonderful conversation while I was refilling a glass of the delicious mango juice. The food was incredible, I've never had a meal that filling and delicious for $17. If you're within 15 miles of Pita Inn, it's worth the drive. I've had, oh, I don't know... probably 50 falafel sandwiches from Pita Inn at this point. Or maybe 100? No idea. DoorDash, call ahead, order at the counter, it's all a blur. All I know is that when it comes to falafel, Pita Inn is where I'm headed. I've had a falafel addiction since I was a wee lad. It calls to me. The crisp shell. The moist and not-too-dense insides. Seasoning balanced on a knife's edge. I'm salivating. Falafel, calling my name. There are different approaches to falafel, I know, but Pita Inn lines it up exactly how I like it. Skokie has a plethora of Middle Eastern eateries, and while I have no idea why that is, I'm not mad at piles of falafel on every block. For awhile I was motivated to try other falafel spots. But why? What am I doing? Pita Inn cooks those golden spheres to perfection. And then on top of that, they bring in the accoutrements for backup. The hot sauce. The endless raw onions with sumac. Piles of pickled turnips. They just do it. Then, when I think it's over, they knock me out with a flawless lentil soup and a plant-based kabob made with charbroiled Impossible meat. I give up. They give you some sauces, but you have to pay extra for the garlic sauce--worth it because it's delicious. It definitely helped my falafel since it was a bit bland and had too much lettuce. Their lunch specials are always a great value. They also offer many other dishes at a reasonable price. The staff is always friendly and willing to help. In addition to the Skokie restaurant on Dempster, they also have locations in Wheeling, Naperville, Mundelein & Glenview. All of the food arrived warm, which was my easy considering that the restaurant was over 10 miles away. The catered food tasted like what I would find in the restaurant. This specific Pita Inn location is a must visit! The food is always consistent, portions are huge, and pricing is reasonable. There was a reason why it was always packed when it was in a smaller location back in the day and now it is a lot easier to go to now that it's larger. Favorites are definitely the hummus and the pita themselves. In addition I always enjoy the chicken selections and the yellow rice. For carryout orders they always give you a huge amount of side sauces. The red sauce has a really nice kick to it and the white sauce will help offset it. First off this place is huge with beautiful decor on the walls and a cool bubbling water feature as you walk They have two lines to stand in. One for online orders and the other for dine-in/to go orders, be sure you're standing in the right line. I chose the beef shawarma dinner. I then saw garlic sauce on the menu and wanted to taste it. The gentleman gave me a free cup since I already paid. Thank you. I received my food and sat down. The plate had plenty of beef, rice, salad and fresh pocket pita. The beef to me was dry, the rice was good, the salad was a salad. The pita was warm and fluffy. The two other sauces that I received with my meal was a hot sauce and a tahini like sauce. The sauces were all good and elevated the beef, rice and salad. I might need to go back with a friend who can walk me through the menu. My friend picked up my go-to combo-- the vegetarian combo which includes falafel, stuffed grape leaves, hummus, baba ghannoug, Jerusalem salad, tabbouleh and pita. They also included tahini and hot red sauce and a special container of pickles and olives. This is a great sampler because it's got all of the good stuff, with very generous portions to boot. Except the baba ghannoug--I could drink that stuff--I love the silky smoky smoothness of it. The same goes for the hummus--I've considered getting a part-time job there so I could find out the secret to the hummus--my all-time favorite. Now that we can drive and have moved away, this is still one of my favorite locations to go to. It's spacious and the seating area is so inviting. My go to is their business lunch because nothing beats the pricing, quality and the flavors. I always ask for extra sauce because it always ends up being a meal for two days. The pita is always light and fluffy and the meats are never dry. When you walk in, you go to the counter and when your order is ready you grab your food and grab a seat and enjoy. I am surprised that this Pita Inn only has 1k reviews given how long it's been around but not surprised that's it has an average 4.5 star rating. All 4.5 well earned. I have recently been coming here a lot and predominantly get their Fattoush salad with chicken shawarma and in addition to the chicken being flavorful, it's also a very large helping for being fairly inexpensive. Usually salads leave you hungry or craving for more but not this one. Sadly I don't have a pic. Today I returned for their business lunch special and it's so much food (meat specifically) for just $10! I do remember the time when this same combo was $5.49 about 15 years ago but given inflation , it's a small increase to current pricing. The lunch special which there are 4 to pick from offers a lot of variety of meats, falafel etc and includes pita, Rice and salad along with tahini and hot sauce. Service is quick and efficient.
