I hired Jason to take pictures for my proposal to my Fiance. Before the big day, he was extremely helpful. He sent links to potential venues, gave me tips/tricks for the actual proposal, and gave me valuable feedback regarding the actual proposal. He was also very responsive to phone calls and emails. He spent a couple hours with me on the phone in total, to help me plan for the perfect proposal! In terms of the day itself, Jason did an incredible job. The pictures came out great. What really stood out for me was the effort, attention to detail, and professionalism he displayed. He had Bronchitis, and still arrived at the lakefront an hour early to prep for my and my Fiance's arrival. After the outdoor proposal, we went to an indoor venue for additional pictures. When I started researching "proposal and wedding photographers" in the Chicago area, I never imagined I'd find someone as talented as Jason. Although we currently live in Washington DC, I wanted to propose to my girlfriend in Chicago, where she is originally from. After searching for several hours online and emailing back and forth between several top photographers in the Chicago area, I picked Jason based on MANY other reviews and his excellent portfolio. From the first email and phone conversation, he was incredibly professional and responsive. I immediately told him the location where I wanted to propose based on other similar shoots I had seen (the honeycomb in Lincoln park). Jason took this information and drafted up a "game plan" complete with logistics maps and post proposal drink and dinner recommendations. Leading up to the big day, Jason and I kept an eye on the weather as it was supposed to be a typical WINDY Chicago day. Just in case the weather didn't cooperate, Jason had suggested an excellent nearby indoor location as well. On the day of, Jason and his wonderful assistant Alex hid in the adjacent bushes while I popped the question. After proposing and after several minutes of enjoying the moment, Jason came up and introduced himself to my new fiancé. She was so surprised that a photographer was in the area and had no clue he had been taking photos so close to her! Great job on being so covert! Following the actual proposal, we were only booked for 15-20 min of additional photos. Jason was so generous with his time and walked us around the Lincoln Park Zoo and Lake Michigan waterfront looking for the perfect shot. We spent over an hour getting TONS of great shots! Following the photos, I asked Jason how long he thought it would take to edit them and have them accessible to share with family and friends. As the contract stated photos will be ready within 48 hours, I expected a day or two turn around. He had the photos to us within 6 hours fully edited! Photography was my MOST important vendor I could book for our wedding day.... after searching HIGH and LOW, I came across Jason's work. I emailed to set up a meeting and Jason immediately emailed me back to set up a time to meet. We set up a time to go down to the city and meet with Jason. His studio is beautiful and extremely well kept. We talked for 2 hours and my fiancé and I knew that we had to book him. We did so and never turned back, we've been so happy ever since!!! It was very important to me to have engagement pictures that caught the beauty of fall. With the weather changing so quickly and before I knew it, I emailed Jason so worried he wouldn't be able to fit us in. He immediately was able to give us a few times in his busy schedule that he could capture our pictures. We decided our engagement session would be at the crack of dawn (literally)... Jason was up and ready to go by the time we got there and was kind enough to offer me his coat (it was FREEZING and some coffee). We hired Jason for our wedding on November 2nd, we were referred to him by one of my colleagues and I am SO glad that my husband and I hired him for our wedding. Jason is one of those rare people with an ethic and seriousness about what he does to match his talent. I was lucky enough to have found him through word of mouth. A friend of mine gave me a name of a few photographers, and when I saw his gallery, I knew that he had a good eye, but I did not know what kind of human being there was behind the lens. Before the wedding, our videographers, completely mixed up the venue and let me know they were coming to some church which was interesting as the wedding was Jewish and the venue was a hotel. I was flustered, and I can't remember quite how it happened, but Jason must have phoned or emailed me later to speak about how the day was going to go (the wedding was to take place the next day), and after hearing the story, offered to phone them and set things to rights. Jason coordinated everything with the videographer, and managed to get us an hour's extra video for the mistake. I hadn't asked him to do it, he acted of his own initiative and on our behalf. I can't begin to explain what a relief to be able to let go of that task, when there were other sos texts coming in to me for days. Our whole wedding was planned from abroad, and from the moment we met Jason, we knew we had something special. We were all ready to hire him, but he still ran through the full detail of what he does and even put in a good word with other vendors we still needed to hire. We were in town for a couple weeks to make a lot of decisions about the next month, and the one choosing him was easy. Well, I don't know what happened with the other reviewer, that sounds unfortunate, but I had head shots taken with Jason and was blown away, I looked flipping gorgeous and I am not gorgeous, so that was definitely his magic. I then recommended him to friends for professional photos and weddings over a period of at least the past five years, none of whom had anything but RAVES about his professionalism and about the product. The proof is in the pudding, the wedding photos I saw that he took for people I knew were some of the best I have ever seen. So much so, when it was time for our own 25th anniversary vow renewal last year, he took the shots, and I literally tear up with joy every time I see them. What sets Jason's photos apart is he really captures a WHOLE event, his photos bring everybody into the frame in an embrace, and he makes everyone look _gooood_ without making them look unnatural. His photos are freaking treasures, seriously, looking at the pictures brings the whole thing back to life for me, like one of those Harry Potter photos where things are moving inside the picture. I could write a novel on this photographer. Jason is simply incredible. His artwork is phenomenal. He has the patience and the intuition to discover totally creative and beautiful ways to catch important moments. His eye for capturing moments is worth every penny. He made us stop at a random yellow-painted door in an industrial area during our engagement session. It looked like nothing to me, but with his ideas it turned out to be one of my favorite pictures and I used it on our save the date. Our other favorite picture is in front of a mural on a Mexican restaurant that we drove by on our way out to take pictures after the wedding. It was just a random building on the street, but he made us stop to shoot in front of it and that picture just seems to capture the entire feeling of our relationship and our wedding and us. He knew right from the start that there would be a defining moment there, and he made it happen. Finding those moments onsistently and in a fun yet professional way are what makes Jason a necessity for your wedding or special event. That's what every picture of his seems to do. On top of it he works his tail off for his clients. I told him I wanted him to stay in the background during our wedding, and he was really respectful of that. Somehow he got all these incredible shots and I literally did not see him during the ceremony or even for most of the reception. He worked really hard to make sure that his part of the wedding went smoothly, kept in close contact wiht us during all our planning, and worked closely with our other vendors. His assistant was awesome too. Jason had everything well planned out, and he knew exactly what would and wouldn't work, yet was totally willing to try new things and be flexible about our preferences and ideas. He worked incredibly hard to give us the artwork we hired him for - minutes after the reception started he had a slideshow playing on a laptop of some highlight shots from the ceremony and post-wedidng photos so that everyone could see it and catch up if they for some reason had missed anything. He stayed up all night just to get a slideshow movie of the best shots of the nght for us to have the next day because he knew we were leaving the country for our honeymoon and wouldn't have Internet access. He kept close watch on the sunset so that he could pull us outside just as the clouds lit up right for some beautiful evening shots. These are the kinds of things he does for his clients that make his price tag totally irrelevant. Jason is personable - I felt like I became his friend over the course of the planning states and wedding day. He will make you feel comforable and happy. But he is also professional. He will give you absolute confidence in his abilities and he will make absolutely sure that things run smoothly. With Jason you are paying for a level of detail, a level of committment, professionality, and a level of artistic ability that you will simply not get from anyone else. On top of all that, his products and equipment are top notch. The options he has for pictures and albums are cutting edge, gorgeous. and top of the line. He works so hard to make sure that his clients needs are met and their expectations are totally blown out of the water. Ours certianly were. But the fact that he works that hard, for each person, is what makes the difference. He can make any setting work for beautiful photos. We went to a location that he had never been to before for our engagement session. All he had to do was take a quick look around and he came up with over 10 ideas for really awesome shots using the background available. The angles and use of the scenery made for some really unique shots. As an experienced photographer, Jason has an excellent vision of light and knows how that will effect the photo. He uses a variety of angles and composure to create very artistic images. We had actually wrapped up our post ceremony photo shoot with our bridal party and were about to drive off to the reception, but Jason stopped our limo and had my wife and I get out for one last photo opportunity. Jason and his two associates (Elizabeth and Jay) did an incredible job of photographing our daughter's wedding. They seemed to be everywhere capturing every special moment from just the right angle (but never getting in the way). We were able to view photos the next day on his blog, and as an added bonus, there was a five minute video that he had put together which captured all the highlights of the wedding and was set to beautiful music. My spouse and I were not experienced "models" for our pictures but Jason did an incredible job getting natural shots of us and we could not be happier with our experience.
