The worst dentist. Do not leave your child alone in his care or please find a better dentist. Something is wrong with him. Several years ago my daughter says he smacked her face to quiet her because she was crying. This was her first visit and she was afraid. We had to switch dentists. I personally was a fan of our old one, but for some reason, my daughter just wasn't having it, and I was sick of fighting with her. So, I thought change might be good, and it was. Dr Parker's office is very kid-friendly, including movies on the big screen in the waiting room, and individual overhead TVs in the exam rooms. Stuff to keep her mind off of the fact that she's at the dentist (yay!). Next - different flavors for the fluoride and the cleaning paste/polish stuff. I heard them list off everything from orange, grape, strawberry, bubble gum, to birthday cake and cotton candy. She liked being able to choose, and thus wasn't fussy. It's the small things that they do for small people. So far, so good, and my daughter is actually looking forward to going back in 6 months (!!!) read more

Today would have been my boys 4th time visiting Dr Parker. At their other visits the hygienists were great as mentioned in other reviews but also as mentioned in other reviews Dr Parker literally looked at both of my kids teeth for less than 2 min before rushing out. He also didn't take time to ask us if we had any questions or concerns. At all of our visits we were the last patients of the day so he was in a rush to leave. All of our scheduled visits we were called the morning of and asked to come in early. In the past we would try to accommodate and come in a little earlier even though both my husband and I work. This morning the office called again to ask if we could move our appointment up to 3:30. When I explained to the person who called that we work and schedule our appointments as late in the day as possible so that we didn't have to leave work too early she rudely told me that other people canceled so they needed us to come earlier. I also explained to her that they do this to us every time and we schedule our appointments 6 months in advance yet they still call the morning of and want us to change our schedule and today we could not leave work to come earlier. She was very rude and told me that the dr doesn't want to "pay his whole staff to just wait for the last patient of the day" . I then explained to her that it wasn't our fault that other people canceled and we could not just leave our jobs at the last minute today because another appointment canceled. Her reply to me was that "she would notate our chart that we would not reschedule but if we were even 5 minutes late they would not see us". J canceled my appointment for good and will be finding another dentist for my kids. read more

I went to Dr. Parker for 12 years for my pediatric dentistry. Not only did he show extreme disrespect for his staff, but he always rushed through patients. At 16, I went to have some bonding material removed & he broke my permanent retainer AND damaged my 2 front teeth by shaving down too much. I now have to get fillings for what he ruined for the rest of my life. His office is great if all you need is a cleaning, but my experience with his unprofessionalism and poor work has made me hesitant to go to any dentist now. My bad experience with this office started the first time I tried to make an appointment. I called, they answered then told me they'd have to call me back to make an appointment. Should have been a clue when they never called back. Called a couple days later and finally got an appointment 2 weeks out, despite saying it was urgent. (all other dentists have gotten us in within a few days). Got there about 20 mins early like they suggested, only to find out they were at lunch. We were the first there but within 10 mins, the waiting room was full to packed. Needless to say, we waited a very long time. I think about 30-40 mins after our appointment time (and if you have a 2 year old, you know how horrible this can be), we finally got called back. Did the normal stuff and the dentist saw her for maybe 1 minute. Said he'd be back to answer questions. Never did, I had to ask for him again and he acted put out. Also witnessed him talking very poorly about someone who was complaining about the wait time (I think she was going on an hour). If he talks about his clients like that in front of other clients, well, the professionalism is just not there. Then he told me that he thought my daughter would need extractions. ????? (if only that could show the look on my face). but see extractions and the partial that goes with it isn't covered by any insurance. So more $$ for them. Stupid me still decided to have him do work (it has to be done at the hospital). Yet, his assistant who schedules it wouldn't even schedule it (again despite even the dentist saying it should be done ASAP) for a week. She was impossible to get hold of. Finally got a date scheduled but when I called back to ask her about the time and ask her what we should do about the pain my daughter complained about, she said she'd talk to the dentist and get back to me. This was 3 weeks ago. Needless to say, I called and told them we would not be going to them to do the work. I finally wised up. Please be careful if you go here for any extensive dental work. Do not expect good or even decent customer service. And now after doing some research and hearing from other people, this is not a one off situation. Apparently this is par for the course. read more

After going through a normal boring cleaning experience with the kiddo at a different dentist, and not really feeling like they were super thorough in their interactions with us, I felt like we should find a dentist that catered to little kids. The idea of a dentist that specializes in children is a great one to begin with. I would much rather bring my kid to someplace that is fun and an overall YAY HAPPY experience rather than a strange slightly scary one. because of course that's what ~I~ grew up with, and I am sooo not a fan of going to the dentist to this day. So in an effort to stop that fear of the dentist before it even started, kiddo and I dug around on the web and looked at a few different places in the area. This is the one that stood out to me... and when he was excited about the idea of going, and then actually (and soooooo genuinely) said "thank you for making an appointment for me!" when I called the next day? I knew it was the right decision. I really dig the atmosphere of the place - kind of an undersea motif with all sorts of creatures painted on the walls and even some scuba stuff which was cool even though I wasn't getting the correlation to the ocean and scuba diving and teeth. Come to find out, the dentist is a diver, so I at least got where it was coming from. Some of the pediatric places I saw had all sorts of playground type equipment in their waiting rooms, which at first glance seemed like an awesome idea. And then I realized it probably wouldn't be a good thing to get a four-year-old all fired up from running around like a wild animal, and then expect him to be still and calm and chill while people are poking around in his mouth. This waiting room has a BIG screen at the front and a smaller one towards the back with a movie playing (although the sound wasn't in sync beterrn the two and I was DYINGGGG), as well as some other random toys scattered about. So while they're entertained and not bored (and driving their mommas nuts, ahem)... they're not being all crazy and fired up. Nice balance. We didn't wait long at all before being called back. The staff was wonderful and so great with kids, and made potentially scary things like getting x-rays done very cool and interesting. They also have a computerized x-ray thing instead of those awful bitewing things, which is AWESOME and so much less invasive and hurty. And the fact that he got to see his teeth on the monitor was super exiting for him (and me too, ahem). After they got done with x-rays, they whisked us off to a room with a lay-back chair thingy and A TV DIRECTLY OVERHEAD ON THE CEILING (!!!) also playing a kids movie. From what I understand, they usually do the cleanings in a bigger open room with partitions separating the several chairs, but we ended up in a back room that was all closed off with a door because that room was full. I imagine this is probably where they do stuff like fillings and other more scary stuff so the kids just getting their teeth cleaned don't have to see all that malarkey. And the idea of a group area seems pretty cool too, in hindsight: "Hey look, there's other kids here too! And everyone's happy! Yayyyyy!!" The tech doing the cleaning was great as well, and went through everything with the kiddo before she started, letting him know about the sounds and sensations he was about to go through, but did it in fun kid terms (it's going to sound like a race car) and even let him feel the spinny fluoride applicator thingy with his finger so he could see how it "tickles." And speaking of fluoride? They have a zillion fun and yummy-sounding flavors, and they totally let him pick. That's the way to win any kid's heart, you know? She was quick and thorough with the cleaning itself, all while my kid was a zombie watching the TV on the ceiling. GENUIS I SAY. She was also super thorough with me, asking about our brushing routines, answering the questions I had, giving some advice here and there. Afterwards the dentist came in and checked the x-rays, poked around in the kiddo's mouth a bit, and we discussed a couple of things to look out for in the future. He also took plenty of time and answered questions, explained stuff clearly and thoroughly, and showed me what he was talking about on the x-rays even. I left there feeling like I had confirmation that we're doing a good job with brushing and such, and also some things to be extra vigilant about in regards to tooth spacing, so we don't end up with problems down the road. They also scheduled the next appointment at the desk before we left, which I love -- it's just so much easier that way instead of having to remember to call, and then try and fit something in on the calendar that you've inadvertently filled up already. Not to mention that they were booked solid for a couple of weeks when we called to set up the original appointment. All in all -- it was a great experience for both of us, and we'll definitely be going back. read more

I would have to give this dentist and this dental office the lowest possible rating. This is what occurred to my four-year-old son. He had been brought into the office but would have been described to me as a routine fIlling in one of his back molars. I was given the option of an actual filling or a cap. The Have been described to me as a simple procedure. Upon my arrival to the office, to my dismay, I was not allowed to go up to accompany my son To be with him during the procedure. I was told this was the routine practice at the clinic to not allow the parents to go with their child while undergoing dental procedures. In hindsight, I should have canceled the appointment then. I cannot explain what happened in the back but after a period of time my son was returned to me with a moderate amount of pain and swelling along his left cheek and jaw. I was told this was normal for the procedure. I was instructed to give him Tylenol and or Advil as needed, within an 8 a 12 hours the swelling in my son's left jaw went from what I would describe as golf ball in size to baseball in size. He also spiked a temperature to 102°. Despite ice and the use of Advil and Tylenol on a regular schedule the swelling persisted. My husband's best friend is an emergency room physician he came by our home to see our son as a courtesy. He was convinced that either had a significant infection Or may have had some type of trauma during the procedure. We were unable to contact anyone from the dental office that evening. You can imagine my dismay, and by the next morning my son had swelling extending from his left eye, left jaw/ cheek and extending down to his left neck. He was in excruciating pain and had difficulty speaking and swallowing. We called the dental office numerous times that morning, and describe the problem. We were constantly told him that swelling was to be expected. We were adamant that the swelling was far from normal. It took more than 5 to 6 phone calls before the dentist actually called us back himself. It even took my husband becoming demanding to get the dentist to call. We took my son back to the dentist that morning; the office staff was aghast when they saw my sons jaw. The dentist gave us an weak explanation that my son must've bit the inside of his cheek. The dentist claims this led to the swelling. This explanation frankly was garbage. The amount of swelling certainly seem to be indicative of an infection or significant trauma which may have occurred during the procedure. Since I was not allowed to accompany my son during the procedure, we will never know. The dentist did start my son on antibiotics but the following day the swelling persisted. I took my son to his pediatrician who agreed with our assessment that this was not related to my son biting the inside of his cheek but more consistent with an infection or some type of trauma during the procedure. I would give this dental office the lowest possible rating based on three fax 1) Not allowing at least one parent to be with the child during the procedure. 2) The lack of a follow-up phone call from the office on the day of procedure to see how the child is doing 3) Poor office procedures for dealing with complications once the patient is at home. This office did not seem to have any protocol in place on how to deal with an urgent problem. 4) Finally, and what I found to be most disappointing is the Dentist. Instead of taking responsibility, he attempted to blame this complication as being caused from my son biting the inside of his cheek, which was clearly not the cause of the swelling. I'm not sure whether he thought we were stupid or he was just that arrogant. Either way we will not be going back. read more

My family and I have been going to Dr. Jason Parker for over 12 years. Our appointment today clearly opened our eyes as an interracial family that we were going to be handled differently and were never respected nor seen as an equal. Our appointment was for 9AM at their Metairie office (Address: 2201 Veterans Memorial Blvd). My brother and I waited to have our yearly cleaning and started to fill out our paperwork. We were then met by an employee named SHELBY. SHELBY then informed us that our dental insurance wouldn't be covered at their office and that we would have to come out of pocket. Since my parent/legal guardian wasn't with us, we then informed her if we could reschedule to where we can let our parent know and be able to move accordingly. SHELBY still repeated again that our dental insurance wouldn't be covered anywhere and that our insurance coverage will NEVER be good and that we would HAVE to pay out of pocket every time we visit a dentist... ANY Dentist. She finished with asking me if she would need to write the total amount down on a paper to where I can give it to my parent. *****(I am a 22 year old Male who graduated college. So I felt like she was speaking to me like a child. I can remember that my bill would've been $242 and my younger brother would've paid $19.)*** Taking aback by this rude information that SHELBY broadcasted to a now packed office, we informed our parent with the FALSE information Dr. Jason Parker's employee named SHELBY told us. My parent then called their Metairie office to speak with SHELBY. SHELBY intentionally answered their office phone and rudely addressed my parent and then HUNG UP while my parent was in the middle of speaking a sentence. So if you are a brown skinned family... DO NOT GO TO DR. JASON PARKER IN METAIRIE AT 2201 VETERANS MEMORIAL BLVD. FOR ASSISTANCE WITH DENTAL. His employees are truly a horrible representation of his work and practice. I am ashamed by SHELBY and how unprofessional and foul SHELBY's Customer Service skills are. SHELBY is an eye sore to his company and a degrading dental assistant and NEEDS to be FIRED. Sidenote: My parent also called another Louisiana Dental Practice and asked if they would take my brother and I's dental insurance. They did and without an issue. PROFESSIONAL, FRIENDLY, ACCOMMODATING. My 5-year-old has gone to this office since he was 2 and always looks forward to his visits. Dr. Parker operated on him at Children's Hospital, and he did a fantastic job- a quick, easy, painless procedure. He and his staff were patient and thorough when helping me make decisions leading up to the procedure. Recently, my 9-month-old had an emergency incident. I called Dr. Parker's office, and they immediately took us. The receptionist even started filling out my paper work before I arrived. I was in and out in 20 minutes. Dr. Parker always has a smile on his face, and the hygienists are kind to my children. The office is also conveniently located in the middle of Metairie. read more

Wait time is horrible. Scheduled appts for check ups and cleanings only to have the appts cancelled a day prior due to the MD having "conferences" or being out of town. Another time my children missed school and my husband took off work to make an appt. Someone from their office called me 10 min before the appt time to say the Dr. wasn't making it in. I was livid! I shouldn't have went back but X-rays were already taken and I just wanted the work complete on the affected tooth. My daughter needed a root canal. My husband brought my daughter. She went to the back and when she was finished Dr. Parker told him they had to extract the tooth. Needless to say, this time we will never return. read more

My sons love this place and I've never had any problems, from cleanings to silver caps on one of my sons, this place is top notch and really kid oriented, my boys have no fear of going to this place and love the attention they get from the staff. This is sooo much better than a regular dental office. Doctor has always talked to me professionally and was very friendly. Wish my dental visits could be this fun. So my daughter has been going here for a good solid year now(she's 2 now). Since we have been coming here I've never had a problem with the wait, paper work, or staff. Every time we come here of course there are other patients but I think the most we have waited was maybe 20 mins and the whole appointment may take 35 mins maybe. It's pretty quick and I don't mind it, the dentist Dr. Parker is pretty quick but I don't expect him to attend my daughter for an hour, if I have any questions I ask an de answers. I love the waiting room it's cute and distracting so my daughter is focused on where she is. I definitely intend to go back for as long as my daughter is content there. read more

My child was a patient at this office for a very short time, which was long enough for me to make a decision to discontinue being one of his patients. I don't think it's fair to post negative reviews regarding the character of a professional, but I feel this one is warranted. I am only posting to warn any future patients for considering this office. Each appointment my child had, it was the same routine: the dentist walks right past me, never acknowledges me as a parent in the room or even says a word to my child who is laying in the dental chair, he looks straight in the mouth, says 2-3 words to the assistant/hygienist and walks right out past me. That is it. The office waiting area is beautiful and eye catching for kids, along with the tv on the ceiling in the treatment rooms. Staff is friendly and great, but if you are looking for a dentist to actually speak to you and show any concern then this is not the place for your kids. As a parent and having experience in a medical setting, I am very aware of the time constraint that medical offices deal with. I was not expecting a conversation by any means, but the least he could have done was introduced himself before going straight to the mouth. read more

After having an appointment in place for several months, the office unilaterally canceled the appointment because, due to other patients canceling, he wanted to leave by 2:00, rather than wait for our 4:30 appointment. My wife and I are both working professionals and could not move our daughter to an earlier time, especially not when we were contacted the morning of the appointment. I spoke with Dr. Parker himself, and he became agitated and accused me of being "unaccommodating," despite the fact that the ONLY reason he was canceling our daughter's appointment was so he could go home early. This man and his office are completely unprofessional. Further, given the attitude and rudeness he exhibited when I tried to explain that our appointment could not be moved, there's no way I would trust him to be patient, caring, and calm with my child. I am a registered nurse and know a lot about patient care. Dr. Parker's dental assistants are great! He however is not. He is very rude and abrupt. I asked a question about my son's teeth and he kept interrupting me and telling me he is fine. He would not allow me to ask the questions I wanted to ask. He looked in my son's mouth for about 5 seconds and was trying to get to his next patient. I was very upset and his dental assistants apologized on his behalf,but clearly they were afraid of him because they said nothing and they did not call him back into the room. I will never bring my son's back there. I would never leave my patient with unanswered questions. read more

I give him 3 stars ONLY because the hygienists are very friendly and efficient. The desk staff, specifically the chick that you have to go to for checkout is HORRIBLE. She is rude, dismissive, talks to you like you are paying her personally, and has ABSOLUTELY NO BUSINESS WORKING WITH PEOPLE. We've been patients for over a decade and I've seen a lot happen with the staff and a lot of changes, but having this person on staff and continue to allow her to be so rude and ugly is really a slap in the face to patients. My son likes Dr. Parker, because they talk sports, but as soon as his ortho treatment is done I may be taking my kids elsewhere if he doesn't do something about that woman. My daughter had been going to Dr. Parker's office in Metairie since she was 3, and now 8 1/2. Had no problem with them and she had always had a great experience with the hygienists and doc (even though he runs down the patients like an assembly line). This was the case until she started complaining of tooth pain the week before mardi gras this year. Dr. Parker was on vacation, no biggie, so I saw an on call doc that saw 2 cavities that needed to be filled right away, so we made an appointment with Dr. Parker for the week after mardi gras. When he looked at her I got a different opinion, he said that the teeth were baby teeth and would fall out anyway (even though she is 8 and these were cavities in 12 year molars), and that if he, "filled every cavity he saw he'd be doctor overkill"...I'm thinking ok, he's the doctor, we've come here for years and he is the specialist. Well 2 weeks later her tooth pain got worse and I ended up having to schedule another appointment which I assumed would be the fillings, but no, it was another "consultation" in which they had me sign a piece of paper stating that I WAS NOT ALLOWED IN THE BACK DURING THE FILLING EVEN THOUGH MY CHILD WOULD BE TAKING THE GAS FOR THE FIRST TIME, again, I'm not a dentist and I am trusting this guy and his staff, I even called prior to the appointment to speak to someone about my concerns her being on the gas for the first time. I was assured that she would be fine going back with the hygienist and if at any time she was having real discomfort and needed me that someone would come get me. This was not the case, and the short of it is that since he put us off for so long the cavity went into the root and was "deeper than we thought and had to do a crown" NO ONE CAME AND GOT ME TO LET ME KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING, BUT MY 8 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER CAME OUT TO TAP ME ON THE SHOULDER TO LET ME KNOW THEY WERE DONE WITH HER, AND TO CHECK OUT AND HAVE THE HYGENIST, NOT THE DR, EXPLAIN THIS TO ME. My daughter looked really upset and her face was all red, numb and she had a bloody tissue thing in her mouth and could not talk so I asked her if she was ok and if it hurt, she just nodded 'yes', and mind you my kid had never had an issue with any of the aspects of any past dental visits, never scared, never cried and always was cooperative..so as soon as we get in the car she burst into tears and says, "DR PARKER IS MEAN"..i had to calm her down b/c I was worried she would start bleeding again so I said we could talk about it later and we didn't have to ever come back there. Later that night she comes and says that what happened was that when they were working on her she started to cry because it hurt and dr parker told her "STOP IT", then she started to cry again and asked for me and again and he told her, "I SAID STOP IT" and she started to cry as she is telling me the story. My kid may be sensitive, but I was told by the receptionist on the phone, then in the office as well as the hygienist that if anything happened and she cried in pain that they would come and get me. And since the cavity had worsened Im sure it did hurt her!! had he not put us off for over a month maybe it wouldn't have gone down this way. I've since heard from other kids that have had fillings done by Dr Parker say that he is mean and other moms say they've started to notice things like this there that they don't like. On top of all of that, I still ended up having to take her to get the second filling done!! Because she started complaining of tooth pain. AGAIN!! She refused to go back to him, even for a cleaning. And btw, when she got the second cavity filled at a different office, I got to sit in the room with her the entire time...so why is it that he is so adamant that parents aren't allowed in the room with your child even for just a filling??? read more

The hygienist at Dr. Parker's office are the best but unfortunately the only good thing about this office. We were seeing Dr. Parker years ago but left because of many reasons (wouldn't schedule Medicaid pts on days they see "normal patients, Dr. Parker spend less then mins with the patient, long wait times). We decided to give Dr. Parker's office another chance mainly due to the proximity to our home. Turns out nothing has changed. When making the appointment I gave insurance info for verification. During my son's appointment, the hygienist suggested my son get X-rays just in case. I asked to make sure everything is covered under my insurance. She said yes, your insurance was verified. Two weeks after my appointment I received a bill- for the full appointment cost. I called and it turned out they billed my insurance from 6yrs ago (although insurance was given while making appointment, card given prior to visit, & questions making sure insurance was verified). I was still billed a small amount after but my concern was that nothing was being verified prior to service. I called to speak to management which I was refused. Dr. Parker's office is basically a money making factory with no concern for our children or the families who have to pay for "extras" that they throw in. read more

As parents our main goals are to protect and provide for our children. I felt that my parental responsibilities were not respected after my experience with Dr. Parkers office. My daughter had an appointment to receive a simple filling or so I thought. The dental assistant called my daughters name and told me that they would get her started and then call me to the back. After some time elapsed I was called and told "shes all done".  To my disbelief they had indeed completed the work without me being present but to make matters worse they actually did not explain to me what treatment had been completed. After  inquiring I was told by the assistant that my daughter had a crown placed.  I was very appalled that there wasn't a explanation provided by Dr Parker himself. I attempted to move past that since my daughter was in pain and very upset. During the check out process I was told that there was some additional fees that I had incurred because there was an additional tooth that had to be repaired. I became increasingly more concerned and asked for further details about my daughters treatment, and when I did I was lied to and told that the dentist was with a patient. I became more assertive and ironically they told me that someone would speak to me. I was escorted to the back and ironically Dr Parker was not with a patient and he came into the room to speak with me. At the beginning of the conversation he was obviously flustered ,agitated  and began the conversation with negative connotation. He pulled up the Xray and attempted to show me her cavity and that it was bigger than he expected. As the conversation continues he stated that I didn't look happy and that I should be because he waived the additional fees. I explained to him that  it was never about the financial  obligations but that I was severely disappointed regarding the lack of courtesy and respect that I would have hoped  for from him and staff. I see that he is becoming aggressive in front of my daughter so I decided to deescalate the situation and end the interaction at that moment. On my ride home  my daughter informed me that" Dr Parker is bad mommy" "I was crying and he yelled at me and said oooo be quiet" This broke my heart and I decided I wanted to share my experience with other parents to avoid this dentist at all costs. The lack of communication displays a lack of respect for children and  their guardians. I trusted them not only to perform a service but to have my daughters best interest at heart. There is a certain code of conduct that one would expect from a pediatric dentist. Dr Parker  doesn't possess any of those characteristics. He is not compassionate, encouraging nor does his rude disposition lend for a kid friendly nurturing environment. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS TO THIS QUACK!!!! He has no professionalism, first of all I made a appointment after watching nola, the show that recommends businesses in the area. As I said I made the appt. changed my schedule to go, they called me on the day of appt. and said he was stuck out of town, I rescheduled I got there about 10 minutes late had to find the place. They gave me attitude because we where a little late.(wow). My son went back, I was called to come in the back. All I saw was the back of the dentist leaving, he did not introduce himself or talk to us about the health of my sons teeth. His assistants did all the talking!!!, they said my son needed 5 crowns, of course I knew my son did not need that kind of work, so I got a second opinion, my son only need 2 fillings done. I have been bringing my son to Dr.Parker since he was 1, he is now 7. I have been bringing my daughter here since she was 1, she is now 4. I have never "LOVED" him like I do our pediatrician. However, I LOVE the hygienist, and how amazing they are with my children. My kids have never had a cavity, so I have never had to deal with Dr.Parker for anything other than the 30 seconds he comes to bark some orders at the hygienist while glancing at my children's xrays/teeth. However, today he told me that my daughter has a significant under bite and that we would address it when she was 6. Me, being a overly concerned /obsessed Mom, asked what exactly the future plan for that is. He told me "There is no sense and even discussing that right now, since I told you we cannot do anything until she is 6!" And he walks out. HOW RUDE DR.PARKER. You have zero right to dismiss my concerns, you work for me. I bring my children to you, my insurance pays you, and I have a right to have ANY of my questions concerning their mouth answered. I'm not sure where I will be bringing my children, but it definitely will NOT be back to your office. You need to understand that some parents are concerned, and want to know what the plan will be...maybe you should take your time with your patients instead of running around there like you are God.
