My experience at Jason's Deli was really disappointing. We waited about 30 minutes for our food, only for it to come out cold. The noodles and sauce had zero warmth and barely any flavor, which made the long wait even worse. On top of that, the dining area wasn't clean at all -- most of the tables were dirty, and it definitely wasn't because they were short-staffed. The whole place just felt unorganized and not well taken care of. Overall, nothing about the meal or the atmosphere made the wait worth it. I am so disappointed that we discovered this place at the beginning of our Alabama students senior year. We could have been enjoying the frontier the past 3 years but if you have the opportunity to dine here don't make the same mistakes I did , go here as frequently as you can ! This place far exceeded my expectations snd I wish there was a franchise near my home in suburban Philadelphia even though I have a authentic NY deli 2 miles from my home. This places salad bar was amazing, one of the best I have seen in a long time since Covid. I was surprised at how fresh all the items were on the salad bar. I had the roast beef French dip and it was delicious. The beef was super tender and the roll was even very good , only thing that could have been a little better was the Swiss cheese that could have been a higher quality. The turkey club was excellent and I saw a table with a corned beef special that was piled high and looked like it was shipped from NYC! The restaurant was very clean and the staff were super friendly and professional, impressive. I am looking forward to graduation when I can visit again ! read more

I thought was a little stuffed than in the past and I had to go ask for the salsa that comes with it- I find that annoying- do your employees not know the menu? The Burnt Ends Sandwich is to die for! The lady that took my order, had to add it to my order, but get this. When my sandwich was ready, she didn't just sit it on the counter, like,"Hey, come get it.". She brought it AROUND the counter to me! *The food at Jason's deli is always great. I am giving only 4 stars because the cashier has no business working in customer service industry* I come to this location pretty often. Today I was there at 11:42am (see receipt). Both registers were open because there was a bit of a line. I went to the girl on the right (she had no name tag but my receipt says her name was Ashley). She's easy to spot though, if Ashley isn't her name. She's the one standing at the register with her mouth gaped open like she has no idea where she is or what's going on. She just stared at us. She didn't greet us, didn't even ask what side I wanted with my sandwich. I was so taken back by her attitude, I forgot I had the option of chips or fruit. My plate came out with fruit (which is fine!), but for $12 I should've gotten the option. We said thanks after we paid and she didn't say a word. I found the manager (she had no name tag either, Of course). I told her about our experience and that whoever that cashier was needs to be behind the scenes, not dealing with customers. A short while ago, I would've given this place 5 stars. Good food, a great salad bar, and good service were always a given. Recently, on my visits, I've noticed that the salad bar would not be stocked as it should, or they would be out of ice cream. Trying to ask someone is difficult too, when most that work in this area don't speak English. They would nod, smile, and walk away never to return. But this wasn't the norm. I still enjoyed going. However, my last visit will definitely be my last, at least for a good while. On this visit, I ordered my usual, a beefeater and salad. I fixed my drink and salad. Normally, by this time, my sandwich would arrive. I ate my salad, still no sandwich. Pretty soon, I was at the 30-minute mark. Still no sandwich. So I decided to check. I told the girl that I was just checking, since normally the sandwiches come out in a few minutes. They weren't busy, so I figured they just missed the order. She turned and asked. I went back to my seat. I saw no movement from behind the counter at all. At the 45-minute mark, I asked for my money back. The girl gave me my money back. No apologies, not anything. My visit to Jason's Deli made me realize that this is what I've been missing since I moved from Tuscaloosa 7 years ago. The salad bar gets 5 stars alone because it seriously put a smile on my face for the rest of the day! It is extensive (i.e. all the fixings you can imagine, pasta/potato salad, coleslaw, fresh baked mini breads)! I ordered 'The Rachel' sandwich and the salad bar for an extra $5. If you get the salad bar as an add-on to a sandwich, then you only get one plate and one trip, so make it memorable. I ate my salad bar options while there and packed my sandwich to go for later. So for around $15, I was able to have lunch and dinner lol. The sandwich was good, fully loaded with meat and came with chips on the side. If you've never been to Jason's Deli, this is the location to visit. It was very clean and customer service was the best. read more

After working in Tuscaloosa regularly this year and quickly growing tired of fast food, I discovered Jason's Deli one night. This place is legit for a good sandwich and salad bar. I think I've been doing in right with the manager's special which is a half sandwich/salad bar for somewhere around $10. Then I make an embarrassingly huge salad smothered in an unhealthy amount of either of their delicious ranch flavors (regular or jalepeno). For sandwiches, I have been sticking with the cowboy, beefeater, or the club...all good but I think the "Cowboy" is my favorite. Once you get done take a free soft serve ice cream cone for the road. read more

This place is maddening around lunch. It's a big, sandwich, salad bar machine that constantly seems to be packed. It's a solid place to grab some non-fried food in a city full of artery clogging goodness and fast food. The service is always quick despite the wait and the staff is rather friendly. Nothing beats the fro yo while you wait for the line to die down. While it's a chain and rather unoriginal they get my vote in Tuscaloosa for one of the better, healthier lunch places to eat. read more

So, I'm on the fence about Jason's Deli. On the one hand, it is closer to my house than similar lunch establishments (like Newk's, for instance). On the other hand, they can be a little hit or miss. I like the broad menu. You can get sandwiches, salads, soups, some combination of those, make your own salad at the salad bar...you can't beat the variety. And overall the food is pretty good, if perhaps optimistically priced -- the salad bar alone is $7.99, and it's another $3.99 for a side of chicken to add to your salad. Basically everything has the feel of "I could make this at home, if I could just be bothered to buy the right ingredients." Also, plates are generally just a bit on the sloppy side -- soup served with some spillage on the bowl, that kind of thing. Two things really bug me though. First, on a recent visit, at 2pm on a weekday, the dining room was a MESS. Nearly every table need to be cleared and wiped, and the place was mostly empty. Someone finally emerged with a cart and began wiping things down, but geez. Second, on that same visit, getting someone to the register to take our order was, um, challenging. The guy eventually hauled out of the back seemed seriously hit from behind, admitted that he was off in thirty minutes and totally over the lunch rush, and then made some really awkward banter. Like...just take my order, thanks? So while Jason's is not a major destination for me, I'll probably end up back here out of boredom and desire to not venture too far from home. read more

Servers are great. Soup is awful. Tried the "vegetable" soup but it was watery-green broth full of beans and spinach. No other vegetables. Chicken soup had noodles the size of a ship rope so left very little room in the bowl for the two small pieces of chicken, or the bland broth. 1000 Island dressing is mayo, lets up and dill relish. The second I tasted them they were disgusting I spit a few out . Aside from that they have improved so much since then the salad bar is great and so are the employees. I've been in Alabama for four days now and every other restaurant I've dined at has been sorely subpar. Jason's was such a relief! Huge salad bar, fresh ingredients, and decent flavors. I ordered The Papa Joe to go and my boyfriend enjoyed some free ice cream while we waited (nice perk!). I've had better sandwiches in my life, but for the area, this place is to die for. The prices are also around $3 cheaper than comparable sandwiches in California. I wish I had found this place earlier! If I'm ever in Alabama again, I'll definitely come back. read more

I have had Jason's deli before. This one stuck out because the manager was very present. He made his way around the dining center to make sure everyone was having a good experience. He asked if there was anything else we needed. I requested a Togo box and he got it himself. It's the little things about this location that made a big difference. Today I went in to order a salad when I was done with my my salad the previous customer wanted to ask questions about her order. The male cashier/cook that took my order did not give me a receipt of finish with me he was more concerned with the customer before me. The customer ordered a kids grill cheese but wanted to know what was the difference If she had the cheese and tomato sandwich but not the tomato basil. The cook fixed her order the way she wanted not charging her anything extra. I asked for an extra dressing he told the cashier to ring me up for 79 cents. It wasn't about the cost but treat all your customers the same no matter what they look like, race or gender. The previous customer was not charged for anything extra. Jason's Deli has been my favorite place to go in the past. However, in the last several months, the Jason's in Tuscaloosa has gone way downhill. The food quality is very poor. I have noticed this several times--it is not based on one visit. Yesterday was the worst. I ordered a Club Royale. When I got it, I could hardly see the meat. It was about 1/8 inch thick. It was more like a "jam" sandwich--two pieces of bread jammed together. I won't be going back for a while. read more

I am so disappointed in this place. The food was okay, but the service was abysmal . It took almost 45 minutes to get our food and then they got part of it wrong. We were supposed to have a gluten free sandwich with a fruit cup. We sent the wrong sandwich back and they threw some meat on the gluten free bread and brought it back. It was a mess. But, they forgot the fruit cup. The guy said he would go get it and never returned. Finally, we asked someone else to get it, and about 10 minutes later she brought it out. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Tuscaloosa. As seen before in the reviews, they have the best salad bar. My favorite item to get beside the salad bar is the Asiago Pot Roast Sandwich. It's delicious. Keep in mind that this sandwich has horseradish in it and if you are not a fan of spicy items this might not be for you. You can always ask that it be removed, but I am not sure if they will comply. Enjoy! By the way, if you are reading this Jason's Deli corporate, please add one down Highway 69 South. I think you will have some takers from Shelton State. read more
