DO NOT see this person if you need medical care. Dr Irene Wu was very abrasive, hostile and…read moredismissive. I have resurrected this old Yelp account because as a stroke survivor who is living with chronic pain and cannot enjoy the things in live I used to, I have learned to be my own advocate and help others when I can. I have been a patient of this clinic for four years, and I want to start by saying that Dr. Hsu, Albert, Valencia, and many members of the staff have provided 10/10 outstanding care during some of the most difficult periods of my life following my stroke, seizures, and chronic pain. I'm happy to have them as part of my care team. Unfortunately, my recent experience while trying to obtain time-sensitive travel documentation was completely different. With Dr. Hsu out of the office, I sought assistance regarding paperwork required for international travel with my prescribed medication. Instead of guidance, I left the interaction feeling dismissed and spoken to without empathy. When I explained that delays could affect my travel and medical care, I felt my concerns were minimized rather than addressed. This experience was so out of character with the care I have otherwise received at UCLA that I felt it was important to share. I left feeling unheard, scolded rather than helped, and honestly a little numb. The closest comparison I can make is that I felt like the gum stuck to someone's shoe. Something to scrape off and move past as quickly as possible. I have not felt this attacked since my last seizure. It truly felt like a verbal assault on me personally, not a compassionate or caring healthcare worker. I sincerely hope no other patient facing a complicated medical situation walks away feeling the way I did. Excellent medical care requires more than knowledge and credentials. It requires remembering that the person on the other side of the conversation is scared, vulnerable, and asking for help.

I initially began my ketamine infusion therapy back in December of 2019, up in the San Francisco…read moreBay Area where I am from. By the time I found Gateway on Montana, I had already had 10 treatments, so I was extensively familiar with the myriad benefits. After a series of situations requiring a temporary relocation to Santa Monica recently brought me to the neighborhood, I happened to stumble upon this beautiful facility one sunny day in July, and was warmly greeted by Zohreh. After a lovely chat, I immediately scheduled their next available appointment, and was able to get an infusion within two days (on a Saturday), at about half the price I was paying in the Bay Area, which was such a relief to discover. I am so grateful to have found this place, and have now had five sessions at Gateway Clinics. As someone who is very sensitive to all pharmaceuticals, and neither tolerates nor desires any traditional medications, I am thankful to have discovered ketamine on the advice of a functional (aka holistic) psychiatrist a few years back. I have since learned that Ketamine is a tremendously safe, versatile, and wonderful drug that has been used since the early 1960s, and may be administered at different dosages, in any one of three ways: as an anesthetic (for sedation, like during surgery), as an analgesic (to achieve relief of chronic pain), and as a psychedelic (requiring much lower doses, for mental health support). In my case, ketamine has been instrumental in helping me with all of the following areas of concern: depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, trauma, addiction, suicidal ideation, fatigue, sleep, cognitive performance, mental clarity, and even everyday functionality on a seemingly ordinary human level that so many of us take for granted (until compromise thereof occurs). Within one treatment, ketamine also gently washed away a lifelong fear of needles and IVs, and this annoying obstacle has never returned. I like to say that ketamine (as with most psychedelics) often quite dramatically improves one's capacities: to care for self and others; to move through the world of experience with greater ease, mindfulness, and attention to the present moment; to love more of what is; to gravitate away from the tendency to overcomplicate things, and rather toward a preference for simplicity; and in general to suffer less. It was by way of studying philosophy for 10 years that I discovered meditation and psychedelics. I would never have imagined that a deep immersion in academia would lead me here. Absolutely everyone on the Gateway Clinics team is of the highest caliber. Locally, Zohreh is phenomenal, and creates an inviting atmosphere that makes you want to come in and stay awhile. All of the Nurse Practitioners are phenomenal, and treat their patients with the utmost care, kindness, compassion, respect, and even joy. The founder, Clay, and his wife, Ariane, are both spectacular human beings. I am genuinely impressed with every detail of this practice. The entire organization feels very much like a family, and without doubt they are mission-driven to heal the world, one bodymind at a time. In addition to safe, convenient, and legal psychedelic therapy, Gateway also offers several vitamin infusions, B-12 shots, and a perfect array of products to go, such as: targeted wellness and supplement sprays; high potency medicinal mushroom tinctures (e.g. Lion's Mane and Shitake); raw superfood chocolates featuring adaptogenic mushrooms and herbs; and a nice selection of quality CBD products, including tinctures, gummies, and flower. Life is already struggle enough in so many ways. On my view, every being alive deserves the chance at a happier, healthier, more peaceful experience of existence if at all possible. Wholeness is a birthright; and psychedelic therapies are unquantifiably vital to the end of helping to facilitate precisely that. I highly recommend this "Gateway" to infinite possibility. We are so fortunate to have it here.

Dr. Jenn takes time to get to know each patient and approaches treatment as something individualized rather than one-size-fits-all. She spends time talking with patients before and after sessions and seems genuinely invested in helping people integrate the experience beyond the appointment itself. The environment also deserves mention. The space feels thoughtfully designed -- comfortable, calm, and welcoming -- and I think that set and setting make a meaningful difference in the overall experience. It doesn't feel like a typical medical clinic; it feels more personal and supportive. The staff has consistently been kind, professional, and attentive, which contributes to feeling at ease throughout the process. For anyone who feels like they've tried a lot of different approaches already, this may be worth exploring. My experience was that the combination of individualized care, environment, and support made all the difference.

That alone has made it so much easier to make healthier choices and take better care of myself. Dr. Jenn is exceptional. She is calm, grounded, compassionate, and offered the most thoughtful coaching throughout. She and her team made me feel safe and supported throughout the process, which helped me trust it fully. I took my teen who is in chronic pain and we have tried everything before I found LaserMD's website. At our first appointment, they said there was a $125 co-pay! I hope to get some clarity on this soon. They did give me the office manager's info, so I will update. Just frustrating because their website said no co-pay and they asked for all the insurance info ahead of time to confirm. I hope they honor their website's promise or at the very least, change their website to reflect their practices rather than bait and switch. My kid is in so much pain - going to an unnecessary appointment that we can't afford (they recommended 2x/week for at least 6 weeks in our case) is really upsetting to say the least.
