So we happened upon this spot because we were driving back from Mammoth and had to use a restroom. Little did we know that this was not some run of the mill convenience store but a super cool spot. It's one of those off the beaten path experiences that you can only find on road trips in the middle of nowhere. In the courtyard you feel like you're stepping back in time, and in the back there's a large outdoor music venue. Unfortunately there were no shows at the time we were there, but I definitely want to come back and some point to check out a show there. Everything has this high desert retro vibe. Definitely recommended as a spot to drop by if you happen to be in the area.

We were on a stretch of hwy that didn't have a gas station within a one-fourth tank of gas worth of distance so were thankful to see this place. Staff was very friendly. Apparently there's a lot of cool stuff to see/buy here. Will try to stop by next time if we're not pressed for time.

What a total rip off is what my 12 year old boy said after I put some gas in the truck. Not really I said, thank god that this place has gasoline for all the dumb assess like myself that didn't have enough gas to get to the next town. Yes, it's true I paid double for gas but thank god the owner puts up with all the state of California BS and has gas because my family and I would have either pushed my 4000 pond Toyota Tundra a few miles or we would have experienced a long day in the desert while we waited for AAA to show up. First off, this place looks like an old rundown auto shop right out of the movie urban cowboy. If you ever saw the movie then try and remember where Sissy worked, this place looks like it will do for when they make the sequel. There's a dirty little dog running around the front of the shop greeting customers as they arrive, there are also a few abandoned cars and possibly a few abandoned buildings surrounding the main entrance of the store. Yes I did go inside and from what I can tell it's like a little oasis in the middle of nowhere. I saw a man talking to a handful of teenagers, they look like they were riding in the area. The man behind the counter was giving them directions to some of the better places to ride. There were lots of cold drinks, water and beef jerky like snacks. Almost like the famous slash X bar off the 241 in Barstow only without the bar. So enough with the detailed information about a little tiny gas station/liquor store on the middle nowhere, please do me a favor, if you're in the area and you need something cold to drink or even some gas, stop in and give these guys some business. They saved my ass today and I'm very happy that I found this hidden gem in the middle of nowhere. I'm going to try and stop in and buy something here every time I pass this way. Thank you to the owner of the yellow oasis in the middle of nowhere, you saved my ass today!

Ask the Community - Jawbone Canyon Store

Was this location used in the pilot episode for the TV series Quantum Leap known as the "Ranch Bar" where the test pilots hung out (sort of like Pancho Barnes' Happy Bottom Riding Club)?

LOL possibly. I drove by a month ago and it was closed. Like maybe forever. Hope it's still operating.

I walked in armed with my 64 ounce growler. The inside of the brewery was really nice and organized well. As I walked in I could see all their beer taps. I asked for a taster of their Amnesia IPA. I loved the hoppy flavor so I had them fill up my growler. They were bottling beer when I was there and it was cool to watch. I bought a shirt while they were filling up my beer. As soon as I walked in with my dog I was berated by the staff member to tie her up outside. I was alone, however, I complied and took my dog outside and tied her up alone. There was no signage posted that I saw indicating their no dogs policy. Instead of politely explaining the rule, i was met with a harsh tone and felt unwelcome. At that point, I mentioned that the interaction had felt unnecessarily rude. Rather than acknowledging how it came across, the staff member became argumentative and insisted that I simply didn't know her well enough to judge her tone. The final straw was when I asked if they wanted my business and was told, "No." Businesses are absolutely entitled to have a no-dogs policy, and I would have happily followed it if it had been explained respectfully. My issue is not the policy--it's the customer service. I left without ordering and won't be returning.

Tuesday, March 10th, we traveled to Bakersfield to pick up a vehicle I had purchased, and of course had to stop by Kohnen's. My wife and I split a Tuna and Cheddar Panini, and a loaded Turkey (we arrived too late for Sourdough!!). It is difficult to walk away without a mini-pie (try them all, but blackberry is freaking amazing!!). As always, Danelle was there with her typical congeniality and work ethic! We love her!! And I got to tell her about her doppelgänger in a restaurant in Yucaipa!! They do exist!! In summary, eat at Kohnen's!! Say hi to Danelle!

I visited Kohnen's Bakery Tehachapi yesterday with my family, and this was honestly one of the…read moreworst customer service experiences I've ever had. I only purchased two items -- one cream puff and one slice of cheesecake -- but the cashier charged my card THREE times due to repeated mistakes. Here's exactly what happened: 1) My first card (Card A) was charged $11.20. The cashier asked me if I wanted a receipt, and I said yes. Then she told me the receipt didn't come out because the transaction "didn't go through," and asked me to provide my card again. 2) I gave the same card again, and this time she charged $11.69. 3) Then again, she told me that it didn't go through, so I used a different debit card (Card B), which was charged $11.20. While sitting at the table with my family, I immediately checked my bank account and thought I had only been charged twice. I spoke to a staff member at the store and requested a refund for one of the $11.20 charges, which was processed. However, today I realized I had actually been charged three times, meaning there was still another $11.20 that needed to be refunded. So I called the bakery and asked to speak with a manager. I spoke with someone named Danielle. I calmly explained the entire situation and told her I would send all my receipts and bank transaction records by email so they could double-check and confirm everything. She said ok and gave me their email address, but it was very long, and I was concerned about making a mistake while writing it down. So I politely asked if she could text me the email address instead. Her response was extremely rude -- she said, "I'm not required to do that," and told me to just write it down myself if I had a pen and paper. Although I was already uncomfortable with her attitude, I carefully wrote it down and sent the email. However, the email bounced back as invalid, even though I had confirmed the spelling with her multiple times over the phone. When I called again, Danielle answered and said, "Ma'am," in a very dismissive tone, and told me that they had found the three charges and had already processed refunds for both $11.20 transactions. I tried to confirm which card the refund was going to, since I used two different cards, but after putting me on hold for a long time, she read off a card number that was not mine. When I told her that wasn't my card, she insisted those were the only transactions for $11.20 yesterday and told me to "check my bank in a few days" and call back if the refund doesn't show up. And, she didn't apologize for the mistake, even though they charged my cards three times and wasted a significant amount of my time. Even yesterday, when I asked for an apology, I only received one reluctantly after I pointed out that they had made a mistake -- and even then, the response was dismissive, as if I should just accept it because they were "taking care of it." The attitude throughout this entire situation was rude, unprofessional, and extremely frustrating. The cheesecake was very good. But because of this experience, I would never come back. We drove all the way from Los Angeles to Tehachapi with my family, expecting a pleasant visit, but this bakery completely ruined the day. Being charged a total of $34.09 for just two small items due to repeated errors is unacceptable. If your staff cannot properly process payments, they should not be working as cashiers. Situations like this should never happen. What's even worse is that after making multiple mistakes, there was not a single sincere apology -- only attitude, dismissiveness, and instructions for me to keep checking my bank and call back again. My time is valuable. This entire situation could have been avoided if things were handled properly from the beginning. This was an extremely unpleasant experience, and I am very disappointed. Cf) For reference, the other $16.05 receipt is for bread that my brother purchased.
