Cyn and I went in Friday night and caught some of the Karaoke. Some really good singers. We found out there was going to be a potluck for Super Bowl. They do serve food there, but surely not gratis for a whole bar on Super Bowl. WRONG. They put out tri tip and baby backs. There was chili, and there was a sweet and spicy baked bean crock pot ! Super Bowl potlucks are one of the greatest amalgamations known to man. You not only learn about people and how they cook, but where they got an O.G. potato salad recipe. The mac n cheese, mac salad and the rest had us 's'macking our lips. As a Chef ( half ass cook wanna be ) I really enjoy finding out about great things like adding heat to sweet baked beans and things my waist line should have never found out about...those almond joy bar cookie nests were pure heaven. Limited beer selection. Service was average. Prices decent. Kinda cool walking in through the old west swinging doors! Food was pretty good and priced fairly. Only reason for the 3 star is there just wasn't anything great just a pretty average bar. That being said I'd probably go back if in Kernville again. read more

We planned & headed in to get a cold beer and hot food after traveling for 2 hours. Our first stop was the bathrooms. When we came out there were no dining tables to eat at, only tall small bar tables. Everyone else was at the bar, no hostess, no menus. Not the greasy spoon dive we were expecting, no hospitality, and cold and open. It was Friday and loud so we walked out to discuss our decision. Then from nowhere some clown (read: owner) says "Hey, we're not a public restroom". First class jerk, low-class joint. Find somewhere else, anywhere but this soiled spot. You didn't get our business that night, you won't get our business ever and we will make sure we tell everyone we know to avoid it like the plague. Horrible & awful and the worst ever. read more

We thought this place would have food as they have signs. They offered delivery pizza. It is everything a local saloon should be and you can tell it gets hopping. I have played there and they pack people in on Friday and Saturday nights. I got a monumental Bloody Mary from Debbie that afternoon. Met the very friendly owner Jim. It's a great place to shoot pool, play some music (on that computerized item contraption, get affordable drinks from a really friendly staff. There is a smoking area outside (a patio along the front sidewalk) for those of you who do that. This place can get busy on the weekend, but during the week, it's pleasantly quiet with some locals just hanging out with friends. This is one of my favorite places to hang!! read more

I was sitting at a table waiting for my husband to relieve himself then we were planning on throwing back a couple and just hang'n out. Been coming to the Kern River for 20 years. Had never come into the saloon before but I was in desperate need of wifi for work purposes. After getting shot down at a local diner I walked into the Saloon and was greeted by two of the nicest folks! Megan let me taste test two IPAs. I ordered one and they did me the favor of knocking out the work I had to do. As I got to it I noticed the music was great and everyone was having a great time already (it was 11 a.m.). A younger crew was in the back playing shuffleboard like it was the superbowl and an older gentleman, who I assume is a regular walked in with his Chihuaha and started sipping on a Budweiser. Just a great vibe and personality to this place. Real and refreshing. Finished my work, my delicious IPA, left them a nice tip walked out wondering why I hadn't come in here before. My husband and I have been coming to Kernville for the past few years now, he has had the pleasure of visiting Kernville Saloon and loved it. This past weekend we camped a few miles north of the town, in an area without cell reception. Little did I know, my dad would be going in for emergency surgery and I would be unreachable. Long story short, the Park Rangers and Sheriffs didn't have the man power to come find me, so my friend called Jim. Jim owns this bar, and he didn't hesitate to drive to my campsite to deliver the news... Jim, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I was able to talk to my dad before he went under because you selflessly stopped what you were doing to help a stranger. I will be forever grateful for your kindness. Mind you I was already smashed by the time I got here, but still a bit nervous to be walking into this place. I mean, it was my first time in Kernville, I don't know what kinda hicks were running around this town. To my pleasant surprise there was a good diverse crowd. There were these older bikers in the corner that were literally smashing beer bottles on the floor and getting boners for each other for some reason. Maybe they hadn't seen each other for a while. There were these young dudes with the sweetest fashionable handlebar moustaches. There were your regular trashy snatches running around. And best of all...THERE WAS SAILOR JERRY RUM! Once I saw it sitting there on the shelf, I screamed at the top of my lungs "FUCK YES! THEY HAVE THE JERRY! I AM DESTROYING SOMEONE'S LIFE TONIGHT!" Can you tell I was a bit excited? This is how excited I was: Bartender: "Whut can I git you?" Me (Drunker than shit): "Can you give me a Sailor Jerry and Rum?" *Bartender walks away and comes back* Bartender: Did you say "Sailor Jerry and Rum"? Me: Yes, now make it snappy! *Bartender stares at me* Me: Shit! I meant Sailor Jerry and Coke! At which point I proceeded to scream in excitement again. Don't worry, there was a band playing. I was so stoked about it that i got a few more people to become fans of the damn drink. I sold it like I was a car salesman. "Ya see, it's got this hint of cherry and it's so sweet. It goes down really smooth, NOW FUCKIN' DRINK IT!" Back to the review... The place was packed. Not packed wall to wall, but a good packed. Plenty of seats to go around, but still plenty of people to fuck around with. They had a shuffle board in there and a back area. I bought 3 drinks and got away with it for $10. How that happened, I'll never know. There's some other fun stuff that went down, but that's for my friends to know. Either way, this is the place to go when you're in the area. My brother and I ventured to the saloon after the brewery closed for the evening. We were not sure what to expect having never been to this town. When we arrived the place was pretty dead. It was evident that they would be closing soon. I felt bad ordering a beer, but we had walked all this way so we decided to have a quick one. The bartender, Carol, was busy closing down shop. I decided to strike up a conversation with her as I always enjoy meeting new people. Well as busy as she was (and I'm sure she wanted to get home after a long day) she dropped everything to chat with us. We must have been there for at least an hour. She told us about the town, how she came to live there and what life was like in such a remote place. My brother and I had an amazing time. She is a beautiful person with a genuine human spirit. She made us feel at home there. Before parting, she recommended a breakfast spot for the next day. The following morning as we were walking to breakfast, we hear, "Heyyy guys!!!" And there's Carol on her way to open up the bar! She asked us to stop in after breakfast to say goodbye, and we happily obliged. Great bar! Great bartender! First off.... This place is epic. I mean what more can you ask for? Cold beer, friendly staff and a great atmosphere. They offer half pitchers which are great for someone who does want to worry about it getting warm. Also, they have cool ice coolers to keep your beer icey cold. Stopped in here on a Monday with my girlfriend and was met by Debbie who was as nice as could be. Cozy local bar that has to deal with the crazy tourist on the weekends and special events. We were already to party and just have a good time it this awesome little town. Carol the bartender was rude, unkind and put out because we ordered a drink. The bar was so cold you could not enjoy a cocktail, other regular patrons commented to the bartender how cold it was in there in which she raised her voice and told everyone it was not cold. Let me set the scene bartender is moving, patrons are sitting drinking cold drinks, bartender has on a long sleeve sweater, customers come in in shorts and short sleeves (after all is is 80 outside). When we were ready to spend a few dollars Carol made sure we were not welcome and cash means nothing to her. Before you think that she didn't care for our "rowdy crowd" in her bar... our ages 87, 67,66 and 65. NOT the only saloon in town. My sympathies for the owners they deserve better employees and more money in their pockets. read more
