2016: Used to eat here often. Now they're always understaffed. Slow to prepare food. Disallowed smoking at the bar inside (which has allowed it for 10 years!). Started charging for tomatos on burgers. Didn't know Hxxxxx ran a hamburger restaurant. Update 2023: lived in this town for over 20 years, used to eat here monthly or more frequently. The only hostess/cashier that has ever worked there other than the owner has gotten progressively more rude with time. The wait times have grown despite crowds getting smaller and smaller. We still visit about two-three times a year hoping for an improvement. Shame such a beautiful building and location and what used to be such a wonderful restaurant has fallen into such irreparable repute. read more

Used to work at JAX back in 2019, was one of my first jobs. Loved the atmosphere and the food, always thought highly of the place. Just got out of The Marine Corps and thought I'd take a trip down memory lane and grab me some JAX. Was greeted with less than enthusiastic service at the counter. Asked if Mrs. Lavisa still ran the place and was looked at like I insulted the girls mother and she just ignore me. I placed an order for a tender basket and asked to have half catfish replacing some of the tenders. Seemed to bother the girl when I asked but she said it was fine. I then sat down and waited for my food. A few minutes in I look up and I'm getting mean mugged by three guys from the back and the girl at the counter, literally staring me down. They walk back into the kitchen and the girl makes eye contact with me and motions her hand toward the counter. I walk up and she tells me that the kitchen is refusing to do my order and that they called their boss about it. Tells me she's gonna refund and recharge me for the order and that they won't give me the half and half basket. So I tell her to just give me tenders, to which she replies "it's the same price either way" and I'm thinking, if it's the same price then just give me the catfish and charge me for the tenders?? Either way I accept it and get my food, to then see that I've been given 3 tiny overcooked tenders and one of them is literally the size of my pinky finger. Onion rings were old and poorly breaded, just bad quality overall and I could tell they were disgruntled for some reason and served me a shitty meal. I worked at JAX long enough to know what a quality basket looks like and this was not it. I expected a warm welcome coming out of the Military and back into my old hometown workplace and instead received highly disrespectful staff, terrible food and service. Have no desire to eat there ever again and that truly is a shame. read more

They have good food but the service is awful and the owner doesn't care and defends it. A Facebook post was made on a local page about Jasmine who works the front and has the crappiest attitude and treats customers extremely rudely. More than twenty people agreed. Searching through their Facebook page numerous people left reviews (overa long course of time) stating the exact same thing in regards to Jasmine and Jasmine had the audacity go emoji laugh react to each comment complaining about her. So when the post was made on the local Facebook page with many people in agreement, instead of the owner apologizing, she first claimed she wasn't aware of the situation. But her responses to the reviews on her Facebook page and then here, contradicted that and someone pointed that out to her. She then messaged the page admin and asked them to remove the post altogether, to which admin refused. Due to the way the owner handled this situation, it is obvious there is no customer loyalty at this establishment so we will not be back. We have been eating there at least once a month for over 8 years. Other long time customers have stated that they will no longer be dining here because of this situation also. It's really such a shame, and it all started because of one employee who should have been fired 2 years and 50 complaints ago. read more

Stopped in on a Friday at 12:30. It was quite busy as to be expected. It is right on the main drag across from the courthouse, so parking can be a little iffy. They have a fixed bar for your burger or salad. And hand scooped Bluebell. I had the swiss bacon burger with the jalapeno bun. I can't say anything bad about the burger. Mushrooms were nicely cooked, bacon was thick and cooked just right. Meat was above average. The bun was super good. It was fresh and just thick enough. It was strong enough to hold the mound of toppings I put on it. Fries were thick cut and cooked nicely. Kid had fried catfish basket. It was cooked fresh and I tried a bite. Really cute, casual restaurant on the square in downtown Liberty. The counter service was friendly. Ordered a veggie burger with mushrooms and Swiss cheese. You get the burger and add any toppings from the toppings/salad bar. The mushrooms in my burger were so wet i could not pick it up with my hands. Awkward to eat with fork and knife, but it was tasty. Very nice joint. Was about a 40 min drive to liberty Texas. Nice variety on the menu with salad and spud options. They also have a self serve condiment bar with huge variety of options. Food was great as always. Their customer service wasn't the best today. Tried to order 3 burgers that were all the same. The lady adamantly refused to let me do it. I had to go through each burger and answer the same questions 3 times. Not a big deal. Just kind of annoying. Then I noticed the misleading sign claiming their cash "discount" program. The discount is, if you pay with cash, they don't add a 4% "Customer Service" upcharge to your bill. I understand their need to pay for their credit card transactions. The same woman is at the register each of the 4-5 times I have been there. Today I asked for a fish basket which was clearly printed on the menu. The lady said fish or shrimp? I told her I wanted fish. Next question was what kind? I asked what she meant. She pointed at the sign and I repeated fish. I asked what kind of fish did she have and she repeated, fish or shrimp. Next was I asked could I have a baked potato. She said no. I asked why not and she said they don't substitute, I told her I never asked for a substitute, I asked for a fish basket and baked potato. We have been long customers of Jax (over 7 years of coming!!), to the point where we drive over an hour and half to get these burgers. Today was mind blowing, and not in a good way. The food here 10/10 stars!! Decently priced, fries on point love all of it. Today when we walked in (after a very long drive from Waco) we were greeted with waiting 5 minutes before someone acknowledged us, to tell us that someone will be right with us. Okay that's fine! We waited some more, someone different came up and said that someone will be right with us, again fine! Finally someone walked out to take our order, but at that point I had to use the restroom (being 9 months pregnant does that to you) so I told my husband what food I wanted and walked away before he started ordering. When I came back I saw he had gotten us two water cups. I decided to get some sweet tea instead of water, since my husband didn't know I wanted the sweet tea and there was NO ONE AROUND to make the correction. Anyways we are finishing eating cleaning up our table when the waitress (owner?) who took our order stopped by to collect our plates rudely said 'When you get up you can come to the front counter and I'll charge you for the two drinks y'all have been drinking' again RUDELY. We said no problem as she's walking away. As we are walking up to the counter she started typing in the drink I told her 'It's just one cup, my husband has only been drinking water' a very snippy 'okay' as a reply. Then she turns and looks at us expectingly, we ask her how much it is and she said '$3.50' and we were both shocked at that amount for tea! We gave her a $5 and told her to keep it, when I asked for a big cup since we paid for it. She instead said I can keep filling up my little water cup because I was stealing the tea. And that I had no problem stealing from them. But again NO ONE WAS AROUND for me to get the correct cup. When I asked again for the big cup saying that I paid for it and at least let me get it she turned her back to me and decided to ignore me while saying 'You're lucky I didn't call the cops on you for stealing!' Ironically my husband tiped $3.50 on the original check, even though there's no reason to tip because there's no waitress/waiter waiting on us. Wow. Just wow Jax's. Was this really worth losing two life long customers of your business? $3.50 that we gladly paid for! Just shocked at this service and attitude! read more

This is my second time to this location. It has been great every time. The customer services was great and the food had that Homemade taste. This time I had their chicken fried steak with potato salad. The chicken fried steak was fried to perfection. The flavor was the same throughout. There was never that taste of grease. The stake was tender and flavorful. A must try if your in the mood for chicken fried steak. To top everything off. I am not a big Ranch fan on salad. But the Spicy Ranch was amazing. Jax was empty, given it was a Wednesday and that odd hour between lunch and dinner, but don't let that fool you! I have a feeling this is THE spot for meals. Staff was helpful and kind. This place has gone down hill. I ordered a Philly cheese steak burger when I received it it had no mushrooms or grilled onions and the cheese was cold. I asked for the cheese to be melted and the cashier laughed at me. Then the cook walked up to call an order and I informed him and he ignored me. She said your burgers gonna be wet all they will do is spray the buns. Well crap I looked at the back and they were not happy. What a waste because now it's going to my chickens. Last night at 8:30pm on 7/24/2021 after working in the yard all day, my wife and I decided to a hamburger from Jax Hamburgers in Liberty, TX sounded like a great way to put the day behind us. I looked up the hours which say they are open daily until 9pm. I'm thinking "Awesome, 'cuz they usually have our meals ready quicker than a half hour". I'm not the guy who would order or walk into a restaurant right at closing time. I checked the time again and called. A rather boring female voice answered to facetiously thank my for calling Jax Hamburgers in Liberty, TX and ask if she could help me. After I stated that I would like to order two burgers for take-out, the girl replied with, "Of course you would because it's almost time to close." This girl has clearly chosen the wrong vocation, bless her little heart. Here's my thing... If there is a time of day that a business is not taking new orders, they should not answer the phone. As of now, Jax Hamburgers in Liberty, TX has lost my confidence, thus, my business. This saddens me because they had the best hamburgers in town and I love hamburgers, but I would rather go to a chain that tells me to have a blessed day every single time I go there that to know that someone with a really, REALLY bad attitude has anything to do with the preparation of my order. They say one bad apple can spoil the bunch...I wonder if it's just one bad apple.
