It's definitely lively! We walked in and a plume of smoke billowed out. What an interesting venue. The drinks are super strong and super cheap. Definitely a 5 star dive bar! They have just remodeled and taken over the suite next to thwm, which has made this bar HUGE! There are multiple pool tables, shuffleboard, foosball, cornhole, and dart boards. I love seeing people that put money back into their establishment! New carpet, new furniture, new tvs, new games, and the same regulars, which is why I love this bar! There are about 25 tvs and I'm excited for football season, as I know this will be a go to for the games! They have pool tournaments, as well as poker tournaments weekly. Bands play on certain nights and the atmosphere is great! Happy hour is incremental, til 7, til 9, then regular prices. A small pitcher during happy hour is less than $4! It's a great bargain! I've been to Jax a few times and have had a great time. I don't mind the food. It's typical burgers and fries etc. I enjoy the regulars. They are friendly . The drinks are pretty good and the wait staff works really hard. I also like the karaoke. In fact that's why we go. Karaoke is entertainment. It's not high art. I think you will have fun at Jax if you are trying to have fun. Last Time I went I ordered the bacon burger and it was cooked really well. I also ordered the drink special. The drink was a bit sweet for my tastes but still it was nice to try something different. Our waitress has waited on us before and she was attentive. We each sang a couple of karaoke songs and truly enjoyed singing along with the others. It's overall a nice night out with kind folks. read more

I came in there a couple of weeks ago for the first time very very smokey bar very disgusting but I tried to embrace it and took a seat at the bar anyway bartender was rude asked for a drink and took her 5 minutes before I saw her again then probably the wrong drink then when she made it right I still tipped her good because I believe that's always important then I decided to go try to shoot a game of pool as I did that they're unfortunately were no available tables so I put my quarter on the table to claim next I play winner. Anyway excuse myself to go to the men's room which is in the back and called Two Gentlemen doing a drug deal right inside the bathroom so I turned around walked back out and proceeded to grab my things and leave . Not a bar I would recommend if you like classy bars and good people stay as far away from this place as possible it's a very seedy joint don't plan on ever going back there again. The positives: The location has been expanded with more room than before... plenty of TVs (I count 20 plus), and the server was awesome last 2 times I have visited here. Plenty o' pool tables, and free Poker on Friday nights!. (Usually 2-3 tables of folks) :-). They have 4dart boards in a dedicated area for the darts players, and they also have a shuffleboard table in here. Shuffleboard is a fun game to play when tipsy, or sober! All around nice bar. They had karaoke and everyone in the bar was singing and clapping along. They have shuffle board which we played and it was tons of fun! If I lived closer I would definitely come here more often. And by the way, the card that the other bartender said we had to give in order to start a tab- we didn't say you could run it, because we had cash. Bars close at 2am. Last call is always 1:30am. How DARE you take full drinks OUT OF OUR HANDS before 2am. Maybe you should have done the same for the dude outside a doorway down who was puking on the sidewalk. From the length of his wretching, it sounded like he had a lot. I'm more than cooperative when someone TELLS me that "It's time to go, Time to finish up." Whenever me and my friends hear that, we finish our drinks and put down our glasses. And that's when you should take the glass. SCREW YOU. Maybe that's something that you do with regulars who get shitfaced and you have to treat them like they were one of your bobbleheaded dirty kids. But you didn't know us. I happened upon this place by accident after i was invited out with some friends after work. Its tucked away pretty quietly in the corner of the shopping center. It had an awesome old school feel to it once inside. The beer price were nice and affordable and you could smoke on the main floor, but the atmosphere wasn't all "smokey" inside. After we had a few drinks I decided to order a burger simply because Jax advertises the best burger in town, I wasn't let down. It was absolutely delicious and again it was affordable. I will for sure be back again in the near future for lunch. Only draw back is the bathroom size I would say. read more

I planned my husband's birthday party (US + about 30 friends). I called to let them know and they volunteered the birthday decorations. This was our first (but not our last) time there. I met the owner and thanked her for the preparation. We had excellent service of both drinks and food. We felt at home there. They could not have been more accommodating and welcoming. We went back for the Super Bowl. It was so much fun! There were games and prizes and lots of TVs so every seat was a good one. They had a free hot dog and nacho set up. We are going back for St Patrick's Day. We can hardly wait! By the way, we live in Newport News. It is a drive for us but we love being there. We will go as often as we can! read more

They have a good happy hour and good local crowd. I like to do happy hour but hardly ever carry cash. The problem is that they have a ten dollar credit card limit and the staff turns over at seven so I get stuck paying the $3.50 ATM fee every time the shift changes and the bartender wants to close me out. I politely offered feedback regarding the shift change / policy since I have managed a restaurant. The waitress and manager made fun of me. Paid my $3.50 tab and left to go to AJs. My recommendation, if you are want a beer, go to Food Lion and keep it moving. read more

Owners have gone to great lengths to newly remodel. There are tons of big screens and all new pool tables, Foosball and Darts. I haven't been to this place in years, but was in the neighborhood and thought I would see if it had changed. All I can say is WOW!, it's night and day from a few years back. The bartender (Tiffany) was one of the most sociable individuals I have ever met. Her smile could light up a room. The bar itself is extremely clean. It's a smoking bar but you would not know it, their smoke eaters do the job. It's a neighborhood bar with a blue collar crowd who loves their music. The number of TV's makes it an ideal place to come watch football. The food is great. The crowd is very friendly. All in all a very nice place to stop and have a few. Parking is a little iffy, but not that bad. Stopped there a couple of times since to see if I just hit it on a good day or what. Everyday was as described. Went Jax place with a friend the other day it was my first time here, it was 1.00 Taco day. The tacos were okay for the price "they need either other hot sauce or a selection of hot sauces" any way it was busy but not way busy... My complaint would be that the wait staff take their time here, I could understand if it was super packed but it wasn't. I wanted a few more tacos and another drink I held my empty bottle up and even waived at our wait staff as she stood at the end of the bar talking to other wait staff and looking at order tickets. A great local watering hole, where the staff and customers are very friendly.I've meet several new friends there. The adult beverages are reasonablely priced, and the food menu is very good. The hot wings, and nachos are my favorites. I enjoy watching my favorite games, and NASCAR on multiple flat screens.
