A female who worked at the store and claimed to be the owner was very very rude and inconsiderate towards me. I have never been treated like this before and I felt like an inferior person because of a medical condition that I have that is not within my control. Always has amazing novels. If I ever want a best seller I know exactly where to go in Troy to get one. They also have a incredible children's section. This really impressed me. The children's books and toys are great. I got my daughter several. Every book I've ever searched for they had. Great book store. I enjoy that it's a private owner and not a major corporation. They had a coupon online and I saved 15% last time. Highly suggested although the workers could stand to be slightly more friendly. read more

People are quite unfriendly and the store has a very limited selection. I used to like it more when it was in the shopping center but when it moved to the independent site they seem to become kind of snooty. I don't go there any more. I go to the mall to Barnes and Noble or order on Amazon. Too far for me to go there and never get or find what I need. The last 3 times I did go I never found anything not even a simple magazine I was looking for. Check for yourself. Terrible service. I understand it's difficult times but I ordered John Scalzi's book well over a month ago, it came out almost 2 weeks ago and I still haven't gotten it. I paid double the amazon price (and the amount I paid was higher than quoted on jay and Mary's website). In fact I ordered a second copy from amazon for my dad on release day and he got it in a few days. When I called to inquire this week about my book a woman named Mary lied to me and told me they had trouble getting the book in, that it had just come in a few days ago. I know from reading Scalzi's twitter and blog that he went in the Friday before release and signed all the copies for them. Never again, I want to support my local stores, and was willing to pay the inflated price to help out, but I expect quality customer service which I did not receive. read more

I love the fact this bookstore is attached to Winan's coffees and chocolates. I look forward to getting a coffee and browsing the bookstore. I'm giving it 3 stars for this fact alone. I give the owner, Jay, 1-star, and the staff, for being unfriendly every time I've gone in there. When I brought my sister (we both live in Indiana) one time, we walked in and there was no greeting, only two staff standing there staring at us, with their arms crossed. We felt like criminals. Last Saturday I went in the bookstore side and their were 2 staff and Jay, standing behind the counter just staring at me. Not one word was said as I walked in. I browsed the Bestsellers section right by the front door and felt their eyes on me the whole time. Again, I felt like they were looking for me to steal something! No, "can I help you?", "welcome", or "Good Afternoon". Jay could use a course on good customer relations. My daughter, who lives 10 minutes away from there & frequents the coffee shop regularly, feels uncomfortable going in the bookstore. When I bought a few books there a month or so ago, I tried to strike up a conversation with Jay as he checked my book out, and I felt like I was bothering him. If you're going to own a business with customers, wouldn't you be nice to people coming in your business? If you can't, then close up shop. It's a cute bookstore and I get great joy browsing in it. But the owner and staff can ruin the experience, as they have about every time I've been in there. read more

Great independent bookstore, new books only, one of very few independents left. Staff is nice, looks things up and helps you find it, or can order it if they don't have it. They also offer pre-orders on books that are coming out, which is great. read more
