I've been here three times so far and have never walked away empty-handed. They have a wide variety of books, including poetry, speculative fiction, cookbooks, art books, and a large children's and YA section. So far they've also spotlighted translated fiction for Women in Translation Month, American history for July, and LGTBQ+ literature for June. They also have many cute knick-knacks like novelty vases, gift bags, reusable totes, and stickers. And they host quite a lot of community events (like a monthly book club and a mini book fair for kids featuring local authors) and collabs/joint discounts with other local businesses. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. If they don't have what you're looking for, they're happy to order it for you or pass feedback directly on to the owner. For instance, my friend asked if they were planning to add to their current manga and graphic novel section, and the staff asked her if she'd be willing to write a list of titles or series she was interested in because the owner isn't personally familiar with those mediums and wanted customer recommendations to expand the selection. The owner and booksellers all really care about their work, listening to their customers, and serving the Red Bank community as much as possible. I purchased a used O gauge model train transformer on eBay, and about a month after purchasing it,…read moreit failed while I was testing an old post war Lionel steam engine. Thinking it was fairly new, I called Tech support at MRC an related the model of transformer I had and the problem I had encountered...I.e., the accessories side still worked, while the track side (power to the track and train) was gone...totally without power. Well, the gentleman I spoke with at RMC tech support was JOHN, and he informed me, much to my chagrin, that the model I had purchased, the RMC AH501, had been discontinued in 2006! And parts were no longer available! Then John suggested two possible problems and the solutions. First he said, open up the transformer by removing the screws in the bottom and look for a black, in-line glass fuse holder; check the fuse and replace if necessary. If that did not return the power, there might be one other possible problem source that I might be able to fix. He suggested I remove and examine the circuit board directly beneath the horn, bell and direction buttons. He said there would be copper "traces" (three 5/8" long pieces of thin copper sheet) beneath each button, each of which had a solder connection at its junction to the circuit board. He informed me that those solder junctions were often cracked and disconnected due to repeated depressions of the buttons directly above. He said if those traces were cracked at the solder point, or broken from the board, they would need to be resoldered in order to restore conductivity, not only to the button above it, but to the the track supply side of the transformer as well. I found that two of the traces were cracked and had disconnected from the circuit board. Given these cracks, and the age of the transformer, I decided to resolder all tree traces at their junction to the circuit board. It is a very tight space, but with a fine tipped soldering iron, I was able to repair all three...reinstall the board, reassemble the transformer and get the transformer working like new again! I was prepared to throw a $150 transformer into the trash that same night! Had it not been for JOHN's patience, and detailed trouble shooting and repair instructions, that transformer (and money) would have been lost. This country could use more CUSTOMER SERVICE and TECH SUPPORT personnel like "JOHN" at MRC... And I hope he remains there...thanks JOHN! I would not hesitate to recommend RMC or John's tech support!

The collection of used records for sale is much better. The prices are fair considering the quality and variety offered. Lower quality records are priced lower, better records are a bit more. Just as it should be. I was in a week after I had been a previous time and was impressed with the new stock they picked up in only a week. I'm not sure what the record turnover is, but it seems if you go every couple of weeks, it could be worth it if you just want to "see what's new". Great gear for sale as well. I'm a fan.

I found books I absolutely love--some I discovered on my own and others that were personally recommended by the store's fabulous curator, and owner Peter. When I mentioned a book I had recently read and loved--Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin--Peter immediately jumped up, went straight to the bottom shelf, and pointed it out. There was even a handwritten staff recommendation and summary attached to the book. Many of the books throughout the store have these thoughtful mini-reviews, which made browsing feel so personal and engaging. I love the overall vibe of this shop. The selection of gifts is just right: a charming mix of journals, candles, book-themed merchandise, and a few toys--including stuffed animals. I fell in love with a stuffed bear and now I'll have to go back because I didn't purchase him (regret!). I got 2 for $1 each (insane) and was almost positive they would be scratched and skip. Not the case. They played wonderfully. The others I got were not expensive at all and all also played wonderfully. When I stopped by they had a few crates outside, all for $1 a record. Not only did I find a Leo Sayer album in those bins, but also a old Greek movie soundtrack! I didn't know the artist and it ended up not really being my favorite, but I just thought it was so cool and couldn't resist, and for a dollar?! I am very sure my dad will get such a kick out of it when I show him. I walked out with those two gems plus an Abba, Smokey Robinson and Johnny Cash album and I think I spent like $20. I chatted with the owner a bit who was really friendly and helpful. Their old loc was near the corner of Somerset and Easton for all you RU alums that are wondering how you may have missed them all these years.
