This record store is great. I typically go to Jack's in Red Bank and I had never been to this place. I'll tell you, this place blows Jack's away. The collection of used records for sale is much better. The prices are fair considering the quality and variety offered. Lower quality records are priced lower, better records are a bit more. Just as it should be. I was in a week after I had been a previous time and was impressed with the new stock they picked up in only a week. I'm not sure what the record turnover is, but it seems if you go every couple of weeks, it could be worth it if you just want to "see what's new". Great gear for sale as well. I'm a fan. read more

If you love vinyl this is the place to go! So happy to stop in as I found the album I was looking for! They have a huge section of "just in" records. Needless to say I was there for a solid hour, could easily be more. And so worth it. Records are sorted by genre. Their walk is full of classics! Prices are fair. The staff is awesome and helpful. What a gem. You could spend $5 or $500 and be equally satisfied. Huge rotating selection, everything fairly priced. I got a sonic youth record and a lee Morgan. Two lees. Lots of digging to be had, and a rare jazz heaven. My older brother goes here on the regs and is always showing me the random stuff he finds. Great selection of metal too. The way a vinyl shop should be. Excellent layout, tons of albums, variety of genres and a killer wall of rare albums. I spent more time than I should have browsing the bins for hidden gems that I had to have. I actually walked out with a sizable stack of punk, metal and blues. Prices are fair on most everything and I suspect that you'd be hard pressed to find anything better. They also have a vintage equipment area in the back with some deals to be had. It really feels like the owners puts a lot of time and effort into being selective for what makes it to the bins. I'll definitely return sometime in the future. read more

Visited for the second time in two years. Unfortunately there was a stark difference between the two occasions. My first visit I came away with an armful of fairly priced, high-quality vinyl. Mostly jazz and rock from well-stocked and organized bins. This time I found just a few of the over 900 LPs I have in my want list but all were in poor to at best VG condition. I could not justifying paying the prices that would usually apply to NM. or new vinyl at other shops and on Discogs. Despite the excellent variety I came away disappointed. Perhaps I have grown out of touch with prices now reflecting hype rather than the quality. read more

First, let me say the Central NJ is blessed to have many great record stores. But when it comes to digging through crates of used vinyl, Revilla is my favorite. Even when I went there for my first time in their old tiny space, I knew they were different. A lot of shops will put out there used vinyl pretty much as is--original dust and all. These guys seem to clean every single record they put on the floor. Even when they bust out the dollar record crates, they are in good shape. And while they aren't open during the pandemic, their online store (via Discogs) is going strong. I just got an order delivered today. My previous online used record shopping is from individuals on eBay, where the shipment packing can be less than ideal. The package I received today was perfectly sealed. I ordered it late Sunday night and got in Tuesday afternoon. I really can't wait to be able to get back in there and shop in person. read more

Place is a gem. They aren't looking to price out their customers so you really get you money's worth on the used vinyl. Darren, the owner, is great and that trickles down to the staff as well. Huge selection of used in vinyl in just about every genre and the have new releases daily. They have a decent selection of new vinyl as well. We got a record player for Christmas and were so excited to try it out. The line at the record store closest to our house was wrapped around the corner for 3 days in a row so we made the drive to check out Revilla. I'm so glad we did because this store is a great find. I was worried getting into records was going to be a very expensive hobby, but I was wrong! It doesn't have to be. They had tons of used (great condition) records that only cost ~$3-5 or $10-20 for the more popular ones. If you follow them on Instagram they do videos that flip through the new albums so you can keep an eye out for something specific you're looking to buy. I just bought one of those one-piece Victrola record players and wanted to get some LPs to test it out. What a find this place is! No one bothers you as you browse, the store is clean, the LPs are in GREAT condition and the prices are reasonable. What's more, when I was there, the owner, Darren, introduced himself to me and showed me the listening room. When I said that I had bought a one-piece turntable, he didn't roll his eyes (as I feared a Record Store Guy might); instead, he said, "That's cool!" and we talked about how, when I upgrade, I'll come back to his store. This is the kind of LP store that collectors dream of finding: Clean premises, excellent demo gear (AKG headphones? We're definitely not in Manhattan!), interesting oddities, tons of vintage used tube and SS gear (Marantz, Yamaha, Prima Luna, Audio Prism) and a selection of LPs that is second to none, and thankfully NOT PICKED OVER!. What really makes it a pleasure is owner Darren Revilla, who is friendly, generous, and as helpful as he can possibly be. I was tipped off by a friend who posts on FaceBook's Jazz Vinyl Lovers that this small store in a small town was the bomb. He was so right. I made the trip from Manhattan (NJT to New Brunswick, than a $12 Uber ride) specifically to check out Darren's mint condition Japanese LPs, which included titles from Blue Note, Prestige, Savoy, Vee Jay and Riverside. Prices were very good, between $20 and $35, and condition was mint. These LPs were unplayed! Apparently Darren bought tons of LPs and some extremely high end audio gear from a guy who bought the merchandise then kept in his basement, untouched. I was floored, my wallet opened, I was happy. The catalog stock was also excellent, with plenty of unusual rock, soundtrack, contemporary classical, Latin, International and jazz including rare LP titles from Dorothy Ashby,Stan Getz, Miles Davis, a Rufus Speedy Jones LP (which I nabbed) and many more that I had to leave behind. Revilla Grooves reminds you that deals can be had even today, and travelling away from the major urban hubs is definitely worth the trip if you're lucky enough to find a class act like Darren Revilla's Revilla Grooves. read more

I am only writing this review based on a negative 1 star review from a man named PETER P. I have never been to Revilla but I had a similar encounter with this PETER P. person in my record store about two months ago. The man was ignorant; He had rare records but way over valued. I did purchase 4 records. One had a scratch across the entire side of the record (which I admit, I didn't catch when purchasing). Once the scratch was discovered, I called PETER P. and sent numerous e mails regarding the scratch and even sent photos and I said that he did not trade in good faith. I asked for a fair refund of money regarding the scratch. He refused to work with me and said he priced his records fairly. I STILL have all four of them - I'm ready to sell them for less than what I paid him for the four records. By the way - I took a photo of the scratch to show him what I was talking about. I still have the phot and will attach my photo of the scratch here. He is a big time wheeler dealer, fast talking, lying seller - and he deals with high valued merchandise. If he ever comes your way - refuse to even allow him to enter your business. It's more than just vinyl he peddles, so BEWARE ! - Best of luck to Revilla and your store ! read more

I went there today to sell Darren some records. I brought in 10 pieces of nice conditioned collectible grade vinyl pieces with a total retail value ranging between about $2,000 to $2400. He offered me less than $200 for all 10 pieces total. I didn't say anything. Just collected up my rare collectibles and politely left. My feeling was that this guy is a total crook. I would never ever recommend anyone to go there and sell this guy anything. He's an outright thief! read more

Started volunteering nearby and saw this place on my way to work. Have been looking for Something/Anything? by Todd Rundgren, one of my favorite albums. Beautifully composed and written. The minute I walk into this place and start browsing...there it is. In mint condition. Plus, I found Crosby, Stills, Nash first self titled album for a mere $5. I stopped into Revilla Grooves and Gear this afternoon, it was easy to find, right on Main Street, and there is free on-street parking, I got a space right in front of his door. The store is decorated beautifully with a carpet and a love seat, framed posters that are for sale hang on the walls. And that's nice but I was here to look thru records and not ambiance (but it is nice!). The albums are easily arranged by genre, first thing I saw was Jazz, there was a customer looking thru the Metal and Punk, I saw Soul/R&B and Soundtracks and then I saw what I was looking for, Rock. All of their albums are in good quality poly bags which I always like. Most artists with a catalog of releases have their own section, the Arthur Lee I bought was under Love. For other albums they are separated by the alphabet. He also has a few new arrivals sections which is where I found the Link Wray I purchased. The quality of the records, because after all they are used, was remarkably good. You can tell Darren takes the time to purchase only quality records for resale and also that he runs them thru a record cleaning system before he sells them. I'd say the two I picked up were near mint, I only saw two that were in off condition and he had them clearly marked as 'rough' and they were appropriately priced. As for the equipment there was quite a selection of high end speakers, a few turntables and amps too. I know records but not so much equipment so I'll leave that for others to comment on. Darren does use social media and posts photos of recent arrivals of both records and equipment on both Instagram and Facebook. All in all it was a good experience visiting Revilla Grooves and Gear and I'll be back. read more

As a shopkeeper, Darren is a warm, friendly, musical encyclopedia, & has turned me on to lots of great music, he's got a sixth sense for knowing what you will like! I've established myself as somewhat of a regular since finding out about the place about two months ago now. I was in there not yesterday and wound up spending $150!...Used Record stores are usually hit or miss, but I can't help myself from spending an hour plus in there sifting through latest arrivals and going back and picking up the ones I left last time. The store is neat and clean and the records are well cared for. I've been fairly impressed with the quality most of the time. Shop owner Darren is accommodating and returns are never a problem. My drive to get there is about 45 minutes, but it's so worth it. Recommended. read more
