Stayed here 1 night in the Stateside condos. Never in my life have I walked into a lodging to find actual crackheads who were squatting in my room. I kid you not this actually happened, and on top of that the customer service phone number does not work, so we couldn't reach anyone to change our room. Long story short, had to sleep in beds that hadn't been made, there was no towels or toilet paper and the kitchen area was filled with dirty dishes from the previous guests. So disgusted. Absolutely atrocious. Do not come here if you expect anything to work or be clean. read more

I ran a group trip up here for the long weekend (high school ski club). The hotel did a great job with the logistics of the group (luggage storage, ski tickets, meals, etc.). I also thoroughly appreciate the willingness from the security staff to work with our group on all levels. My only concern was that at times it seemed like different resort departments were not communicating with each other. Overall a great stay though. Lots of things for the kids to do beyond skiiang and snowboarding. We will be back! read more

If your thinking about going during corona think again. I understand it's a pandemic but I have been to other hotels during this time, & nothing is as bad as this. They had no bell hop & wouldn't even let us use a cart to bring stuff up? Instead we were watched clearly struggling by a staff member. There's no complimentary water which is strange. We are staying here 3 nights & asked for our room cleaned & the girl at the front desk with pink hair looked at us like we had 3 heads. It's just a very unwelcome atmosphere. Really nice room at the Stateside Base Lodge. Staff at Howie's Restaurant were nice and helpful. Breakfast every day was filling and tasted good. Coffee was excellent. Ski lift operators were helpful when I was taking a lesson. We had powder on the runs and I had a great time. Quite a huge resort with spectacular views. read more

First off, Jay Peak is on the border of Vermont and Canada which easily makes it one of the better mountains on the East Coast. I've been to Killington, Okemo, Mountain Creek (joke) and Windham but this one takes the prize. Jay Peak is known for their alpine trails and has their own "Jay Cloud" above the mountain. I've never seen such perfectly shaped snowflakes. Since it's the beginning of the season some of the snow was real and some was made but for the most part the snow was packed with powder. The higher up the mountain you went, the more packed and slightly icy it was. The majority of the trails are blue (intermediate) and black (advanced) with some green (easy) sprinkled in. The package my friends and I purchased included a free skiing/snowboarding lesson which most of us took full advantage of. The instructors made you go down the bunny hill, analyzed your skill set and then split you up into groups. The lessons were 2 hours long and were very, very thorough. We had one main instructor with 2 helpers and they made sure each one of us successfully completed the run before moving on to a more advanced skill. I highly recommend taking a lesson. The more advanced riders learn how to clean up their technique, ride switch, etc. We stayed at the slopeside condos which are extremely convenient as it's ski on, ski off. We literally walked 1-2 minutes and were at the mountain ready to get on the lift or tram. The condos had 2 bed rooms, a living room with pull out sofa, bathroom, washer/dryer, dining room, kitchen, fireplace, cable TV, balcony and wired ethernet. The kitchen doesn't come stocked with spices so bring your own if you plan to cook. We did manage to find salt and pepper but there's a mini-mart located at the bottom of the hill if you need to pick something up. They also sell beer there. The next liquor store is a 15-20 minute drive. They have a nice bar on the resort but it's cheaper to bring your own. The mountains weren't packed with people. You had plenty of room to ride down whether it be doing tricks or falling on your ass/face. Be forewarned, a lot of advanced skiers/boarders like to go off trail and them jump back on randomly potentially crashing into you if you're not paying attention. A 1 day adult lift ticket costs $69. When I see Mountain Creek prices I laugh and cry because their lift tickets run you about the same price but the quality of the mountain is horrible compared to Jay Peak. The things I do to go snowboarding... The mountain closes at 4 PM so be sure to be up early to get a full day's worth of riding in. The resort also offers an indoor ice skating rink located in the Ice Haus. The rates are super cheap...$3 to rent skates and $6 to skate. Make sure you check the day's schedule before hand because the rink is closed or reserved at certain times. Jay Peak was an awesome way to kick off the season. I'll be back for sure now that I have a midweek season pass plus 50% off weekends. Be jealous! Unless you have an all week season pass. But, you probably don't so ha! read more

Given the great state of flux that Jay is currently in, this a difficult review to pen. As a serious skier, Jay Peak's (JP) major advantage is also it's major disadvantage as a business, that being location. It is the farthest north of the major Vermont ski areas, a full 2 hours or more in drive time past a plethora of places like Killington or Mt. Snow for the millions of inhabitants of metro New York/New Jersey and substantially further from Boston as well. But that substantial increase in "driver commitment" typically comes with the advantage of decreased crowds for those willing to push on the extra miles (though major holidays are still fairly packed). Those willing to go the extra miles are awarded with some great terrain. But I'm going to start with the woods, because that is where JP really shines, as IMO, Jay has some of the best glades skiing I've seen in the east. The tree skiing at Jay is often paradisiacal. And did somebody say snow? It is true that JP receives more snow than any other resort east of the Mississippi. I'm often amazed when other resorts report 3 or 4 inches of new snow, and Jay somehow gobbles up 8 or 9 inches of the fluffy stuff. In fact, Jay gets more snow than even some of the larger western resorts, closing in on an average of almost 400 inches per year. For the dorks in the crowd, this is due to something called "orographic lift", which I wont bore you with explaining, but the plentiful snow is a major contributing factor to Jay's awesome glades. The on-piste network at Jay is a bit less inspiring, but solid. There's something for everyone at Jay, from easy greens to harrowing diamonds, a decent mix is found. The negatives are that JP can get brutally cold (there's a reason The Flyer Express quad is known as "The Freezer"), and worse, they are subject to wind holds more than any resort I know. While not a great concern for locals, it is something to consider for the 7-day vacationer if you're unlucky enough to have 2 or 3 days affected by high winds. And JP has spent $200 MILLION recently in capital improvements, a giant resort hotel, modern facilities/restaurants, lift improvements, a regulation size skating rink, a beautiful golf course, a new XC center, a giant water park with surfing, the list goes on and on ($200M buys a lot of stuff). Not to bring politics into this, but this massive expansion was funded with up to $250 Million dollars from the government's EB-5 program, which allows rich foreigners to "skip the line" and purchase a permanent USA residence VISA for $500,000. That seems pretty un-American to me, and in the immortal words of Forest Gump, that's all I'm gonna' say bout' that. In terms of spending, I know JP wants to become a 4-season destination and step it up to be like the "big boys" etc..., but the fact remains Jay is in the middle of nowhere. Stated previously, from the serious skier's standpoint that's ironically one of the best things Jay has going for it, but from a business standpoint, it seems risky spending all this money (though it's not Jay's money), and I'm not sure JP's new business model is sustainable, as despite the Field of Dreams mantra of, "If you build it they will come", that is not always reality in business. Location, location, location as they say, and I just dont know that there is a market for a high volume mega-resort in the far reaches of hard-to-get-to Northern Vermont. You need to have people on site to spend money, and JP is simply too inconvenient for many to get to. It has always been a crux, and I dont see how any of this changes that. But I do wish them well, and who knows, hopefully 20 years from now the first player from Derby or Newport will be drafted into the NHL. I'm just not sure that their long-used and omnipresent marketing slogan of "Raise em' Jay" applies anymore, as $200M in modern amenities doesn't quite mesh with "New England quaint and cozy". But at least it spawned the greatest ski resort commercial in television history* (link below). This was my first time here. It was a holiday weekend with extremely cold temps, below 0 plus wind chills. I never made it to the very top, but the runs we made were fun. I liked the lower part of the mountain where you could ski in the tree lines. The lines weren't that long and I'm not sure if that had to do with the cold temps. I came here this past winter for the first time with some friends to snowboard and stayed slopeside. Be warned that the slopes here are for the more advanced skiers and snowboarders. Most of the trails are blacks. I recommend trying the tram at least once just to try the trails further up. But waiting for the tram can be a long wait. It's easy to get from one side of the mountain to the other. If you see a sign at a trail for experienced riders, take it seriously! I went to a trail for really experienced riders thinking I can handle it and I slid down on my butt halfway because it was super steep and icy. It especially didn't help when I was 1/4 the way down and I see a skier sliding down super fast on his butt passing me. I saw one of his skis still at the top of the mountain, which I couldn't help even if I wanted to or else I would've wiped out too. The trail was next to a lift so everyone on the lift was pointing at me I thought initially till I saw the skier pass me. It gave me a relief knowing I'm not the only one thinking I can handle the trail but really couldn't. After the lifts closed, we went to the indoor water park. It's definitely an experience to try! There's a slide where you stand inside and the floor opens up below you. It was exhilarating! I didn't think I was going to scream but I did. My friends and I all laughed about it. There's also a surfing and boogie board area. Surfing is very hard! I tried it a couple of times and I wiped out quickly every single time. There's also a lazy river, some more slides, and hot tubs. I didn't get to try the hot tub at the water park since I had to go out to dinner. But after dinner, I did use the hot tub at the hotel, which was very relaxing and a great way to end a night with some friends preparing to snowboard the second day. read more

First we went for the kids hockey tournament. That was great. Check in was suppose to 5:00. We didn't get our cottage until 8:30pm. They said it was because the people who do the cleaning had to leave. They were from Peru. Strange. We ate at Howies for lunch, overworked. We were comped for for dinner at the Foundry. Expensive and ok. We went to Alice's for breakfast but it closed. Pizza at Dicks not great. We then went to Howies for a drink. 60 kids in the restaurant screaming and hollering. They were celebrating. I don't blame the hockey team or restaurant. I blame management. I don't blame staff, I blame management. The celebration should have been in the conference room. read more

As recently as three years ago, this place was still fairly rustic, and to some degree a "secret". No longer. Jay's recent developments, embodied in the Tram Lodge, are both a blessing and a curse. I've stayed in the Tram Lodge twice, and it is very nice. The bar is very nice too. They've really made a large stride towards being a premier winter destination. Unfortunately, with that comes crowds of Jersey shitheads drinking Sambuca in their coffee and side-slipping the steeps into ice rinks. Nonetheless, Jay Peak is still killer on a powder day, and remains one of my favorite places to snowboard in the east. Pros: -Still somewhat rustic, especially the Stateside Lodge (until they ruin that). -Lots of pow stashes in the glades, even days after a dump. Cons: -They exaggerate their snow reports. I have studied this for years and it is a fact that Jay Peak embellishes their snowfall amounts. Neighboring Mont Sutton in Quebec keeps it real. -The new hotel developments and water-park have increased the number of douche bags getting in the way on the hill. -Can be super cold and windy -- frost bitten nose and toes, lose your digits cold. read more

I've decided to write a review. I thought about it for a long time. My decision is based on the fact that it may help to improve their service. I also sent this information to the resort. We received one e-mail prior to arrival that encouraged us to eat on property and use their facilities. There was no other communication. The service was poor. The people I spoke with except at the pizza restaurant, were rude and really didn't seem to care if they were there or not. We waited a long time for our room. Every person we spoke with encouraged us to eat on property, pay for services. We had coolers full of food since we were a family. When it was ready, it was in a basement. I have skied around the world staying at many various types of lodging, never stayed in a basement. They told us we should have known that it was in the basement. There were asthmatics in our group that are still having issues after staying in the condo two months later. The condo had fairly modern items. The DVD/TV worked once my husband fixed it. There was hair/debris in the bed, shower and bathroom. There was definitely mold. There was not internet though they said there would be. The ice storm was no reflection upon the company. How they handled the response to the storm was. The walkways were icy, slippery, dangerous as were the property roads. Our cars couldn't move as the roads/parking was not treated. Lifts were closed due to ice, it was the safest option. We asked for a pass for another day and received three different answers. After two days of discussion, received vouchers for another day. We did enjoy the Pumphouse water park. I don't think we will use the vouchers nor return. Good customer service is the corner stone of a company. read more

Went to the pump house for my wife's company outing. They also rented a condo for anyone who wanted to stay. We decided to leave around 9pm. My wife almost fell down the stairs leaving, because there was no lights on/near them. The driveway at the condo was very narrow, and there was no lights, markers, signs, or guardrails. We ended up sliding into a ditch while backing up. Had to be towed out, and did $1500 in body damage. Security was extremely unhelpful. They just handed me a card for a buddy's towing service, and told me it would cost twice as much if they came to get it that night. I'm amazed they haven't been sued for negligence. Their insurance company really should consider doing an inspection of the grounds. Very unsafe. read more

We love Jay Peak. Honestly, there's not a single mountain on the East coast that gets dumped on more. Sure, that comes at a price (FREEZING!) but layer up and you're fine. The cold temps is also what keeps this mountain reasonable in terms of the crowds. This review, however, is more about our last trip there as it was the first time we stayed at one of their hotels (Stateside). The carpet was stained in the room, no hairdryer to be found, and the lampshade was stained, wrinkled and ripped. But who cares, we were there to ride, not fall in love with the hotel room. All we cared about is working heat and comfy beds (check, check). What disappointed me entirely and nearly ruined the whole trip for me was what happened after forgetting my phone in the hotel. We were with a group and about 15 minutes after the bus left, I realized I left my phone charging off the lobby. We weren't going to turn the whole bus around for that, so I called the hotel and was told that they would ship it to me overnight and I would get it on Tuesday (the day was Sunday). I gave my name, address, husband's phone number and told them to charge the card associated with the room for the shipping, but to just get it to me ASAP. Tuesday comes, no phone. Wednesday comes, no phone. I call and am given the run around. I was told that one woman (Suzanne Kennison) takes care of all of this. I finally get in touch with her and she tells me she's been trying to call me. I'm really confused as to why... first of all, she has my husband's phone number, secondly, I gave every bit of information she would need to ship my phone. She says she tried calling someone who lead the group but the name she gave was not one of the three names of the group leaders that weekend. I'm really not sure where she got her info. Then she straight out tells me that shipping things back to guests is not her only job. I made it very clear that I was upset and that I needed my phone as soon as possible. I finally got it on SATURDAY, so almost a full week without my phone. I also made it clear that I use my phone to accept appointments as I work for a home visiting service here in NYC, so a week without my phone is costing me seriously money. I was absolutely shocked when she emailed me a receipt for $50 in shipping charges!! She said the shipping was $44.59 and they charge $10 for shipping items back to guests, but they just made it an even $50! WHAT?! So you STILL charged me shipping AND a shipping charge for me to get my phone 5 days later than what I should have? Here's what I wrote to her: "I'm not going to argue this since I'm just happy to get my phone back, but I have to say, I'm a little taken aback. Honestly, with all the oversights and my phone getting back to me 5 full days later than what I was originally told, I expected a bit more than $4.50 to be covered. " and, in all seriousness, this is what she sent back: "I'll look into who was at the desk on Sunday when you called. Incidents like these are not the norm and I apologize for the inconvenience and miscommunication. Shipping out Guests' forgotten items is something that I take care of but is not what takes precedence in the course of my day's work. What should have happened is for you to be given my name and number for follow up, and the Front Desk agent be given a number or email so that I could contact you." so you admit that the miscommunication was on your end, you admit that my phone is not at all a priority of yours, and you admit it should have been handled better, but I still get charged $50? One hour and a half of riding from Montreal and one border crossing, and here we are in Vermont for the fun ski terrain of Jay Peak. My preferred ski area is the stateside, nice slopes, hit the UN if looking for gigantic mogles, but bear in mind the triple chair is slow and the line builds up quickly. Alternatively I like to stay on the most right side of the main ski area, in a cold windy day the express quad is the most freezing place to be, so better use the tram, although the line up decreases your ski time. As in Quebec cold and sunny are friends during the winter, so you may have the chance for some beatiful views of the surrounding mountains. What a surprise this year, when trying to reach the state side, brand new hotel emerged in front of my eyes. Yes, Jay has been growing, renovating, expanding, new hotels, new bars, new magic carpets for the bigginers, even the last old fashioned t-bar is gone. Same surprise when leaving the tram on top of the mountain, brand new shiny cafeteria to stop for lunch. With all the extra entertainment as the water park Jay has become a popular destination for non skiers. But this review is all about skiing. There have been days you may ski on sheer ice, snow fall is still good due to Jay's specific microclimate and in the end chances to have nice powder are big. Few years ago we took a tour of the mountain. Snow storm was just starting, both tram and quad chair were closed because of the winds. Our local guide brought us to the bonaventure quad and when we got off the chair made us hike up the hill. Somehow from the snow storm we ended up in the protected heaven of the Beaver Pond glade, untouched by human being powder to play in. This memory makes me go to this glade every time I'm in Jay, worth trying and enjoy! read more

Do ski the far right of the mountain (take JFK to the glades) in the morning before it gets skiied out. Do ski the far left of the mountain all day (it's sunnier) Only wait in the tram line once a day if it's crowded (take the high-speed quad aka the freezer) Don't eat in the new lodge on a weekend unless you want to wait 45 minutes. Do have a beer there afterwards in the super-nice new bar. Do get putin...for lunch (they have it in the old cafeteria). Don't mind all the frenchies...or try not to. read more

We were able to go to the spa and had a great experience with the massages, manicure and pedicure. The Waterpark is fun, but is overpriced for adults. I know this might be a bit long, but it's worth the read. I booked a water vacation trip for my son and I on March 21, 2022 and our trip was scheduled for April 20-22, 2022. When I booked the trip the hours of operation for the water park showed 10am-8pm for the selected days we will be there. Three days before we are due to arrive, I called Jay Peak to add one more person to our party for the water park because my son was now bringing a friend. Jay Peak gladly took my money to add the third person and then tells me park of the water park will be closed (lazy river) and the hours of operation are now cut to 2pm-8pm. As "compensation" for this inconvenience I am told they will give us complimentary access to the water park on the day of our arrival and or they will cancel my reservation and not charge me the cancellation fee. Here's the issue with that. The water park closes at 8pm and check-in isn't allowed until 5pm. Also, cancelling the trip on such short notice does not give us time to find and book another trip. All I got was a "sorry." I asked for a manager's contact information and I was given an email address for Kim Hewitt (Director of Marketing according to her email tag line). I emailed Kim with my above frustrations and again all I get is "sorry" with the same lip service that I can have the water park the day of arrival and or cancel my reservation. After numerous emails back and forth, Kim tells me "We just aren't going to come to an agreement". Talking to her is like listening to a broken record. The representation from Jay Peak is that they really don't care about the consumer. She proceeds to tell me it was my responsibility to check their site for time changes. It should also be noted that my son and I stayed here in 2019 and the water park access was complimentary on the day of arrival, but now they charge extra for it. On the day we checked in I expressed the same frustrations to the front desk. All I got was again "sorry" and my concerns were waived off. We booked a condo in the Golf and Ski neighborhood. On a positive note, the condo is plenty big for the three of us, but it's in desperate need of some paint and new carpets. The carpets are full of stains and the walls are all marked up and you can tell when they just come by over the marks with a paint brush it makes the walls look like patchwork. I found long hairs in both of the beds which are not mine because I'm bald! They don't even give you paper towels or Kleenex. Thankfully I had brought my own, but part of renting these places is so you don't have to bring everything yourself. They do give you two pieces of steel wool to clean dishes though......The pots and pans are warped and the non-stick is all scraped off so those need to be replaced too. Some friends of mine also stayed here during the same time and they were not able to check in until 6pm and all they got was a "sorry." Just be warned that if you are inconvenienced by Jay Peak, don't expect anything else other than "sorry." Blew my mind that Jay Peak still charges you full price for cut hours and services you paid for. read more

I've now been to Jay for two multiday trips and it really does live up to the hype. The skiing/riding here is fantastic, especially if you like to get into the trees. The top of the mountain can be icy and windswept, but for the most part, you should find enough snow to make even the critics happy. I did subtract one star for the age of and options around the base areas. As of the 2010/11 season, Jay has been doing a lot of work and putting up new structures, so we should see some more modern options available as soon as next season. I'm sure this will alienate some that look for the old charm in a ski area, but I'll chalk it up as a good thing. read more

Overpriced in many areas, cheap & crummy in others!!!! DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!! Condos look straight out of the 80's. broken cabinet doors hanging off the hinges. Broken lights in the kitchen. NO WIFI Broken locks on the doors! They gave me keys to two people's condos that were NOT for rent. I was walking around in a private residence! I would be afraid to buy a condo from them as they hand out your keys to anybody who walks in. They can upgrade you to a condo or cottage for triple the price but the geniuses who designed the cottages put the bedrooms & bathrooms on different floors. Hope you are alert enough in the middle of the night so you don't fall. Worst of all is the service!!! After they rented me a condo that wasn't for rent I had to demand my money back! They shrugged their shoulders & acted like I was wrong for rejecting their crappy accommodations. read more

I came here with a group of friends for a weekend ski trip. It was only my third time skiing so I am a beginner. It was a little intimidating at first pulling in as the mountain is very big. There are however several green trails that are very manageable. I feel like there was a big jump in difficulty from the green trails to the blue trails from the look of them. I didn't go on any blue trails because of how steep some of them were, but I felt very content and challenged with the selection of green trails. read more

The accuracy of Jay Peak's snowfall reports is debatable. That they get more snow than the rest of New England is, so far as I know, unchallenged. On top of pretty great snow Jay has pretty great terrain, a snazzy tram to take you to the top in relative warmth with the opportunity to overhear other people's conversation or share whatever you're feeling with twenty strangers, lots of room to spread out and reasonable prices. What Jay doesn't have is nightlife, classy hotels, fine dining or really anything to do other than ski and sleep. Luckily, this translates into lower food and lodging prices than you would find in say, Stowe. Note: I saw my first Teleboard at Jay. read more

My friends and I stayed here for a weekend wedding and were blown away by the service. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite in the Tram Haus Lodge. The weekend started off with complementary valet service. The valet brought all of our bags up to the room for us. The rooms had an abundance of towels, bathroom supplies, pots pans etc. The shuttle service was prompt, easy to use, and extremely convenient as we had friends staying at different locations throughout the resort. All of the staff we interacted with throughout the course of the weekend were pleasant and more than eager to help. We wanted to take a hike about 6 minutes drive away from the resort, and the front desk got a staff member to drive us there and then he was kind enough to coordinate a pick up to bring us back to the resort. This is literally one of the worst business travel experiences I've ever had. I came from Seattle and traveled 14 hours and 3000 miles to be here. The shuttle missed our arrival time, the rooms are small, they don't contain a refrigerator, and I was assigned a room near the pool and the ice machine (neither of which are conducive to sleep). My room is filthy. The sheets and comforters haven't been changed or washed since the last guest (judging by the stains). I'm honestly so disgusted, I may sleep on the floor for the rest of the 4 days I'm forced to be here. If I weren't here on business, I'd fly home. I'd rather stay at a motel in Burlington than at this awful, dirty, disgusting sty of a self-contained resort with gross dirty linens and zero amenities. Avoid at all costs. read more

When it comes to skiing, you need to come to Jay Peak. It's the best snow on the East Coast, and the glades and trails are a great experience. You'll find the shortest lift lines in Vermont, and the state's only tram that can take you through 2,000 vert in just 6.5 minutes. Also nice is most of the skiers know what they're doing, so you're not going to get run over or have someone do something stupid in front of you. If you're coming to Jay with small kids, the water park makes it even better. On a bad ski day you can always take them to the indoor water slides and surf area. Two important suggestions: Don't stay on site overnight, and don't eat there unless you have to. The town of Montgomery Center just at the bottom of the hill offers far more opportunities for you, and it's just 7 miles away. Book a room at a local bed and breakfast or inn there. You'll get much better service for the same price. The nightlife in Montgomery is much better, who several great restaurants and bars to choose from. One other tip: When you drive up, park at the Stateside area over the Tram House area. There's more parking closer in, and the facilities at Stateside are newer, just rebuilt in 2013. read more

We came on one of those rare snowy weekends this year and had a wonderful time! I'm new to snowboarding and had a great lesson that really helped me to stay on my feet on the wide range of green trails. While I was practicing, the others were off zooming away from the peak and loved it. If the weekend that I came is judged to be 'crowded' then I'm definitely coming back! The resorts close to home are much smaller with much longer lines for the lifts. The food served at the various restaurants and bars here are excellent. While we were at Jay, I also scored snowboarding gear at amazing prices at the rental shop (used stuff) and at the little ski shop at Stateside. There's a tiny room at the back of the store with heavily discounted new equipment. Definitely worth checking out! The store next to Hotel Jay has a variety of groceries and alcohol for purchase. The grocery prices are higher than off the resort, but if you are staying in places like the Golf Cottages with its own kitchen, and don't have time to go off resort to buy anything, it's a good option. The 2 bedroom, three floor Golf Cottage that we stayed in is beautiful and spacious. It's a bit inconvenient to get to the hills from there, but since there's a free shuttle service that you can call for pick up, it's not so bad. The downside is that during peak times for shuttle service, the wait for the bus might take a very long time. The new water park is a hoot and just really fun to play around in after a long day on the hills. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. read more

Skiing last weekend at Jay Peak was a wonderful experience. Was it worth the 7 hour drive from NYC? No. But if you do live closer to the area (Mass., CT, etc.) then I highly recommend going out to Jay for the weekend or mid-week. Me and my group of 14 found a great deal on liftopia: 2 days of lessons, rental equipment and lift tickets for $60/person. What?! Oh yeah. Even if you're not participating in a lesson, if one of the many trainers even see you struggling, they come up to you and help you out as much as they can. This review is based on our recent stay at Jay - two adults and four children. Reservation staff was very helpful in getting our stay planned, so first impressions were great. We stayed in a golf condo on the property. It was neat and clean, and had everything we needed to stay and cook meals, which is important to us, as a family of six eating out every meal gets expensive fast. The conditions for skiing were very good. In our family, we have expert skiers and beginners, and there was something exciting and challenging for everyone. Lines at the lifts not too long at all. The Pump House Water Park was a delight for everyone. The children absolutely adored the place. In a four day stay, we spent about ten hours here, and it was very enjoyable. Food in the various restaurants at the resort is very expensive, so plan accordingly! When we did eat out, things were pretty good. A few negatives I noticed - - No staff ever came to tidy up our condo during our stay, even though there were supposed to do so every other day. When we brought this to their attention, they were very apologetic. - Staff attitude varies widely. I lost a ski while getting on a quad lift - the attendant, Jeff, had it back on my boot in about two seconds. Absolutely top notch. Contrast this with the employees in the water park, who were indifferent to surly and sarcastic. Maybe it's just had to find good help so far off the beaten track. - Transportation around the resort is provided by a fleet of small buses that operate on haphazard dispatch system. Instead of regular stops, you summon a bus by telephone and wait outside. This leads to a lot of backtracking, missed rides, and uneven wait times. Being on one of these buses with some guests yelling at the driver was very uncomfortable. The drivers for the most part were grouchy and unprofessional. - Mountain Dick's Pizza, located Tramside, features pretty good pizza served up by a staff so indifferent it was comical. Are you even paying these people? Very bad attitudes here. Overall it was a very positive experience and most importantly the children (ranging in age from 6 to 13) loved it. I have no doubt we will be back. If this place could just get a few kinks ironed out, it would easily rate five stars. read more

I'm so surprised they're rated @3.5 stars! I have seen complaints about customer service and prices at the resort, but I didn't see them mention that it's possibly the best skiing on the east coast. It's April and they still have all of their trails open! If you're an advanced rider they have excellent glades, and waiting for you at the base is the waffle shack. 5 stars! read more

Jay Peak is still my "go-to" ski mountain. We were here the last week of March for about five days and brought my two-year-old. The first day it rained so we brought her to the waterpark. She LOVED it. Of course, we were only in the toddler area really but it was so fun- even for me! I'm not much for indoor pools but it really was fun. It was a bummer that the power had gone out causing a two hour delay for their opening but her face totally made up for it. It's been almost a month and she still talks about the waterpark, the huge bucket of water that tips over "on her head" and the little yellow and green water slides. Two of the afternoons, we were there, we put her in the daycare at Stateside. The first day was a little rough as she wasn't familiar with the room but the staff was really relaxed, there were only about three other kids in the room and the toys appeared to be in new or really good condition. The second day, my daughter was much happier and actually took a two hour nap. If you are a parent, you know that's a dream come true. My husband and I don't get a lot of time alone together and the day care gave us the chance to really ski together for the first time in three years. Conditions were great- it snowed about 3 inches one night and it wasn't crazy cold. My only annoyance was the Flyer was down for wind one day, and then closed for repairs for the two other days that we skied. The Tram line was massive. We only skied from the summit once or twice and stayed near the Bonnie and Jet Chairs most of the week. I realize that the staff needs to do their fixes at some point to prepare for busy weekends, but we wanted access too. :( I'm still a fan of the mountain, even though they've spent too much time, energy and money on building a lot additional hotels/condos at the resort instead of expanding the terrain. The latest news I've seen is the executive management is experiencing some financial "turmoil" as a result. I hope the true spirit of Jay survives it. read more

Jay Peak is still a skier's mountain but in the process of trying to move up to resort status with the addition of new condos and summer fun such as the golf course. You can expect Jay to have snow when other Vermont mountains are on their knees praying for flakes. The mountain is a good size with a variety of terrain. Lifts are adequate as are the lodges. Nudging up against the Canadian border, Jay is pretty isolated - the signs are in french and english for a little perspective. It's not a "this mountain one day, that one the next," location. A day trip to the smaller Burke Mountain is manageable if you wish to switch it up. read more

Jay Peak is my new fave snowboard destination! I have lived on the east coast for 15 years and finally made it here for spring riding. It was the best. So fun, ALOT of snow for the first wknd of May. We had friends staying at the slopeside condos and it was perf to stop in thru out day for lunch break, water breaks, pee breaks. And I stayed at the Hotel Jay. Wow! Beautiful rooms and staff. We checked in late and the end of day. Close to midnight and staff was still on par. Super friendly. Back to the hotel tho, comfy beds, spacious rooms, big bathroom, shower all A+++. I am a bit of a hotel snob so I was def impressed. I can't wait to return next winter! Indoor water park- this was crazy fun!! More fun than I thought I would have. We went near the closing time so there were no lines. La Chute is a must but be prepared to get banged up. So fun!! read more

I love Jay, but I loved Jay even more prior to all this construction when the hotel was crappy, food was hard to come by past 9, and skiing was the best on the east coast hands down. The area has transform over the past 4 years and the skiing is still great, but with the addition of the water park and new hotels, it made the mountain appealing to a lot more people, it's been busier now than I've ever seen it before. It's no longer that scary dark place deep in VT everyone was afraid of. It's worth the trip in Feb or March. Also the water park is more fun than disney land and is a great way to top of the day. read more

My rating of 5 stars is based on the skiing experience only! I love Jay Peak. We have skiied all over the east coast US and Canada and out west and Jay is easily in the top ten ski resorts in the country. The glade skiing is awesome. Even though most resorts in the east suffered from lack of snow this winter, Jay still has plenty of the white stuff and while we were there this week we got some fresh powder! I cant say much for the area, as Jay is truly in the middle of nowhere! Because the new Jay Peak lodging is extremely unaffordable and the alternative local lodging is either too dumpy or to expensive, we usually stay one hour away at La Quintas in St. Albans, VT. (nice place). Although this is a far drive from our home of Long Island, NY - it is well worth the trip and we usually make it once a year. read more

I stayed offseason and was here for a wedding, not to ski or snowboard. I was in Hotel J. BRING A BATHING SUIT! As a result I'm strictly reviewing the hotel. The sights of course are beautiful and the location is amazing. The hotel itself is very nicely kept, the rooms are large and the balconies are a great touch. There are small tables and chairs out there to hang out and look over the great Green Mountains. I did not get to try the waterpark or the arcade but they each look like great options. As I said above, bring a bathing suit, and try out the park...I was pretty disappointed I missed out on that. The hotels all connect with one another via a tunnel system, which makes it great and easy to visit the other areas of the resort. The resort area also has some nice bars, a pizza place, a great breakfast area and a buffet. (Although the buffet breakfast was pretty overpriced ~20) The staff were very nice and they did a great job at explaining the layout of the area and the different times that everything occurs. Overall, I'm sure this place is fantastic in the winter and it seems like a definite stop during ski season. The prices were pretty low, but I don't know if they shoot up during ski season. As "locals" we have always loved Jay Peak. So we decided to check out the New Jay Peak. It is great a low key Stowe, I would say, although with a lot more than is going on at the Mountain in Stowe. It is not as easy to get to as Stowe however it is worth it. The place is now huge, several hotels and many many condos for rent. We stayed at hotel Jay. The room was great, it had a fire place the TV of course, a nice little kitchen area, two luxurious beds, table and chairs for 4. We had dinner at one of the several restaurant, Foundry, the food was excellent, the drinks fun and the service amazing. The water park is very neat, it looks lots of fun although we didn't get a chance to use it. Will go back for that. Hundreds of people on a Saturday afternoon. This is the time to go between seasons and so a great value. read more
