Came same day I called - every garage I called made it clear don't hold my breath waiting for them to have an opening. Considering it was a Saturday one of the more hectic days for a mechanic I expected that was going to be my experience. He arrived at a reasonable time and replaced the starter on my car efficiently and quickly and at a fair price (I took the liberty of getting some quotes before.) Pretty colorful guy... I Called this guy jay about a repair I needed on my car. I believe it was not jay that answered, but a Latin guy, partner/helper. I was asked to send pictures, so I sent several pictures. Waited for a reply but never heard back, nothing!. In retrospect I'm glad I got ignored by this guy. After checking reviews, this guy had left a customer high and dry in San Francisco as well as others. He had done some work on this guys car, radiator, thermostat, Ect. Apparently the car overheated right after the repair. The customer called him for help but he didn't answer his phone!. His excuse was he wanted spend time with his family?. All he had to do was call this customer back?. Communicating with your customers is the cornerstone of good business!. Ignoring customers is a good way to lose valuable return customers. So very helpful! I had a dead battery on a big van, and AAA had tried to help me twice unsuccessfully. Jay was able to help, then drove with me to another location so we could charge the battery a bit and get out of the way of the businesses where the van was parked... I also have a trickle charge set-up that I wanted to make sure was in place, and he was kind enough to stick around to check my set-up. I recently had an electrical issue with my 2006 Honda Civic, and was not sure if it was the battery, the alternator, or the starter (it seemed that it could've been all of them). After trying to jump and refill my battery's water myself, I finally gave in and called Jay, who arrived on the scene within the hour, and began figuring out where exactly my problem was. After trying in vain to charge the shot battery, he literally went and got me a new one, came back, put it in, and after that didn't work he was convinced it was the starter. He had it towed to his place in El Sobrante, and said that it'd be ready the next morning. I get a call at 7 saying he's fixed it and I can come and get it if I want- the dude offered to pay for my Uber ride. When I get there, he charged me 250 dollars less than what I'd estimated and less than what he'd said it would cost earlier in the day. He's a super great guy, and is super busy juggling at least three cell phones in his left breast pocket. Don't ask him bullshit questions- he's straight forward and he'll give it to you straight. I needed to get some work done on my car - new struts and brakes - and was looking for a good place to get this done. I came across Jay and all the good reviews he has and decided to go with him, and I'm glad I did! Jay met me at my place to pick up my car and got the work done quickly. He called to let me know about a couple of other things that he suggested be done and gave me estimates for those as well so I could decide what to do. The pricing was very reasonable and I feel like the work done was quality and Jay stands by his work. After getting the new brake pads, I noticed a squeaking in my front tires when I braked after my car had been sitting for a while so I called Jay back up to let him know about this and he came the next day to put on a different brand of brake pads, which solved the problem. I called Jay to replace my front brake pads, something I was told I needed done by the regular shop I usually go to. When he arrived, he took off the wheels and showed me that they were at 75% and nowhere close to needing to be changed. He checked the back ones too which were also fine but needed to be cleaned and required a few adjustments. He saved me hundreds of dollars with his honesty and everything was done within forty minutes. While taking care of this job, he noticed my bumper was cracked and said he could fix that too if I wanted to and the same day. Within an hour and a half, he had picked up the new bumper, returned, and completed the job. His rates are extremely reasonable (hundreds of dollars less than I was quoted by any garage!) and he is very professional. Jay did ANOTHER stellar, cheap, fast, and solid job for us. Clutch pedal popped out and dropped to the floor. We knew it wasn't a big deal, you could see the part just hanging from inside our truck. It just needed to be connected back again..at least that's how it looked. Turns out was a pin that fell out or broke. Jay was ON IT. First time I called, I asked for an estimate. He refused to give me a price. I asked how much he charged per hour, again same result. He asked if I had time. I responded, sure, I left the keys under the seat, and got to work on bike. About 5 or 6 pm, Jay came and fixed the wiring underneath my steering wheel, which was keeping my car from starting. This was on a Sunday, worked on it for only an hour and a half. By the time I got home, he was upset because he had finished working on it 15 minutes earlier than when I had arrived. He had already known beforehand I would be riding my bike home... Perhaps this is why the bill was so high. $200 flat. He fixed the car - great. But in the end, it cost me more than I bargained for. I called Jay to fix the AC in a 2007 Prius car and the dashboard and all the retail shops I called--about 6-7 auto repair companies-- said it would take weeks to find the problem and find the parts and told me a hefty price beyond what I could afford. I also watched Youtube videos on how to fix the AC for a Prius and how to find the problem first for example to learn the vocabulary and have visuals when I talk to mechanics of other shops and follow what they have to say since I don't know much about cars. I brought my car to Jay and he figured out the problem in less than 5 minutes and he gives an approximate estimate that is reasonable because sometimes additional issues can be revealed after taking the car apart associated with the main repair issue and that is exactly what happened with this car. Jay could have told me it will take many more days to fix the additional issues in addition to the main problem and inflated the price so much compared to retail but Jay pulled magic out of his hat to find the parts and still get the car repaired on time --done in two days--and charge me a reasonable additional fee not far of of the original estimate and he saved me so much money compared to going to a retail shop!!!!! WOW!! Jay is very knowledgeable and to the point. He is customer-service oriented more so after the the job is done to explain everything to the customer. He gets things done! He saved me so I could continue to do rideshare to continue to work to make income and not have my coffers cleaned out. He is honest and to the point so you know the truth. He will call and text you immediately if there is another issue and what is needed to fix it to stay on the timeline. He did an amazing job with the 2007 Prius so I could have AC in hot weather picking up passengers from rideshare. Jay can help fix your car to get it to pass inspection for Lyft and Uber. I NEVER WRITE REVIEWS but people should know about this guy. I called him and gave him my address, he came over speeding down the street, reverses into my driveway hecka fast and my neighbor asked him to slow down too - i don't think he liked that. i just wanted ONE brake caliper put on with a PAIR of brake pads. The brake line was fine (he checked that himself), the caliper was already removed, i had the brakes brand new in the box and i asked him how much he charged. He told me 60bucks!!! I said that was too much, i was thinking 30bucks he said he wouldn't even take his tools out for that much. On his way back to his car he said he'd do it for 50bucks, he said, "All you have to do is take two bolts off." (WELL THEN WHY THE HECK ARE YOU TRYING TO CHARGE ME SO MUCH) i didn't say anything but i thought it, i was just done with him. He said nobody will do it for less. i just called another guy and he said he'd do it for 20bucks no problem. I have to mention his demeanor because it wasn't friendly at all and i just felt something was wrong with him. He did ask for some water to take his meds which might explain his behavior. read more

My brakes started making a metal on metal whining sound. By day 2, I was getting really worried. I called the traditional brake and auto repair shops and was told $175 or $195 plus tax. And no one would give an estimate of how long they needed my car. Then I had an inspiration to look on craiglist for a mobile mechanic. And that is how I found Jay. What a blessing. He came right over and said the metal whining was a warning so don't freak out. We decided that it would make more sense for him to leave his truck at my place and he would take my car and go put on new brake pads and put some gas in it for me since it was close to empty and bring it back.
