I recently took our Yukon SUV into JR Auto Repair to diagnose electrical problems: it wouldn't start, and the battery would drain rapidly after recharging. Jorge was fabulous! He located the problem quickly, ordered and installed the new parts needed. He only charged me for labor, and the actual cost of the parts -- no markup. He only charged me for an hour ... I know he spent more time than that on my truck. I gave him a tip: I've never tipped a mechanic for service before, but great service needs to be rewarded. Jorge is THE MOST HONEST AND QUICK mechanic I have ever used. He charges you for parts (at cost) and labor. That is it! He makes his money from labor and his labor charge is VERY VERY reasonable. I asked him once why he doesn't upcharge and he answered, "I have been a mechanic for many many years for other people and have seen how they treat people. I wanted to open my own shop to help people feel safe and comfortable in their cars! I love the work and helping people fix their vehicles!" He was serious and he proves that to me time and time again with the repairs he does on my cars. He keeps all parts he takes off to show you He buys his parts as at cost through a distributor and does not up charge. If the best is $22 that's what he charges you. He will hardly ever say no to you He is more than willing to examine and 'take a quick look and listen' as a curtosy He was once repairing the button to close the side door of my van, he opened up the other side and noticed that one was looking a little frayed so just fixed it to save me the hassle later but didn't let it affect the labor time. I cannot day enough good about him. His is TRUSTWORTHY AND VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE which in my opinion are the TWO MOST IMPORTANT THINGS YOU WANT IN A MECHANIC! Scammer? Rip-off? We took our car to have the starter motor and fly-wheel checked. The owner/manager pulled the transmission and took out the fly-wheel, which we later discovered was a perfectly good fly-wheel. He did this work without us agreeing to it, in writing or otherwise. He wanted to be paid in cash. We paid for the parts and the labor, but he never gave us a receipt for the work done. It turns out it was just a bad starter motor, which he should have checked before pulling out the fly-wheel. Furthermore, after doing all this unnecessary work, the transmission is not functioning properly, it isn't shifting gears as it's suppose too. He refuses to fix his mistake. We tried talking with him but he rudely hung the phone up on us. Presently, we are building a case and filing an claim with the justice court to settle this matter. read more

JR Auto Repair did a FANTASTIC job for me. I had used them before and will keep on using them!!!! My car had been hit by a another car and need some major repairs. I dealt with Luis Cartagena from the start to the completion of the job. Luis was very professional and could not have handled the situation any better. He is a true pro. Be careful with this guy/ brought my truck in for steering wheel repair, He became very argumentative over the phone with me about not being able to find parts. I found the parts that he claimed were unavailable and various wires were not connected behind my dash when I got my vehicle back( check engine light and wait to start light) . He also refused to give me a receipt for the work done after I paid Cash, listen to other reviews. People like this do NOT deserve to be working in a great town like Novato. I was commuting home from work around 5:45 on a hot day yesterday. My car began overheating and I had to get off the freeway in Novato. I went to the first auto shop I saw and I was turned down by the man because he said he was closed. I then went right behind the shop and found JR Auto Repair. Jorge was there and seemed extremely busy, but dropped what he was doing to look at my car. He proceeded to spend almost 30 minutes fixing it (after he, too, was closed). He completely fixed my overheating car while he was off the clock and was so honest and friendly about the whole situation. I don't have a mechanic where I live in Rohnert Park, and I will definitely be going back to JR Auto Repair simply for this amazing customer service. I took my car to JR during Christmas break, when my mechanic was on vacation. I had my clutch, flywheel, and front brakes replaced. When I went to my regular mechanic, he told me that in his entire career, he had never replaced a flywheel, as he was always able to clean them up. He said that I didn't need the $800 part. He was certain that I didn't need front brakes. He showed me his service records, which showed that I had 75% of the brakes 3000 miles earlier. He also told me that JR used after market brake pads, and not genuine BMW parts. I'm not a mechanic, and I have no way to judge these things. I have complete trust in my regular mechanic, and I don't think that he would falsely accuse someone else of unnecessary and expensive repairs. I had a broken door latch, and came in on the recommendation of a friend - Jorge took the time to talk about my repair even though he was very busy and scheduled me for the next day, found the correct part and replaced the broken one quickly on time as promised, at a very reasonable cost. Stay away!!! This guy is a scammer! I wish I had seen the other negative reviews before I went there. I had unfortunately confused this place with HJ tires around the corner, which was recommend to me. This guy quoted me one price, then increased the price once it was time to do the work, but tried to fast talk me , trying to convince me all the ways he was saving me money. He ended up using cheap refurbished parts but charged me what new parts would cost. When it was time to pick up my car and I asked questins about the break down of prices in parts and labor, he screamed at me and carried on for the next half hour and told me he wasn't giving me my car(even though he also had my credit card) and that I'd have to call the police. When I did finally get my car back, the air compressor he was supposed to be replacing wasn't blowing cold air properly and making a weird "KACHUNK " sound and making the whole car jerk. He also didn't do the oil change and tire check that I had also requested when I took it in for the repair. When I went back to confront him about the issue, he just screamed insults at me and told me that if it didn't work it wasn't his problem. The whole experience was a nightmare and I'm going to have to pay someone to fix the shotty work he did. read more

This guy will rip you off whenever he can get the chance. He game is he talks really fast in a very thick mexican accent to make you think he is trustworthy, right, saving you money, and that you wouldnt want take ur car anywhere else. The reality is that he continues to talk (so quick u can't really understand what he's actually saying) barely allowing you even get a word in nor ask a question. We were driving out of the Bay Area on a Saturday when we heard a clunk. When I pulled off the side of the road, my brake pedal was almost going to the floor. We were able to get the car off the road, and were towed into JR Auto Repair. We fully expected that we would be in for a long weekend, attempting to deal with getting back home and trying to deal with repairs an hour away, but JR Auto Repair looked at it immediately. We had been in an accident earlier in the year, and the brake was repaired by another mechanic, and apparently, the caliper bolts were not torqued correctly, or secured with locktite, as both bolts came off, and it was just dangling next the wheel. When we arrived, JR Auto Repair took a quick look, and assured us we would be back on the road in a couple of hours. He quickly searched for the required parts, ordered them, suggested we get something to eat, and in a couple of hours, we were back on the road. Car troubles when you're an hour away from home are extremely frustrating. The service we received was first rate. The mechanic understood our plight, and did everything he could to get us back on the road immediately. He was also very friendly and helpful, providing updates, all along the way. The brake worked perfectly when we were back on the road. It would be easy to dismiss a customer that wasn't local, but he was as helpful as the local mechanic we've used for the past 15 years. This is a one of the best mechanics in Novato..i always had bring my cars to him (Nissan 240sx) (ford mustang gt) for maintenance always gave me the best deals...recently i took my car to him to get checked because of a ticking noise, he checked my car he found out it was the timing chain guide tensioner was broken he did not charge me for diagnostic and gave me a good deal...car was ready by the next day after he received all parts from ford dealer now my car runs smooth, he also showed me all the parts that were replace. I highly recommend this shop he is a knowledgeable and honest guy ...did i say he bring my nissan 240sx back to life and i will soon put a rebuild engine in it since it has high milage and JR Auto Repair will be my first shop to go to.. read more

On friday march 25th my friend took my 1988 BMW to this shop to get new cables and new spak-plugs to get my annual registration. The job was done on time. I went to get the smog but the car didnt pass the smog; according to the smog shop owner two of the new replace spark-plugs wre not firing. I went to JR Automotive repair to ASK NOT TO COMPLAINT; I tried to ask the owner of the shop named Jorge Reategui, but he started yelling on me and telling me the it was not his problem. He didnt even let explained the problem but started attacking me verbally and telling me the I was upset when I was trying to fix our problem. We were on our way on vacation camping for the weekend, when our fuel pump went out on the Hwy 101 in Novato. We were lucky enough to restart our car and landed literally in this repair shops driveway! We think divine intervention! Suburban full of kids and our dog,and camping gear. Jorge the owner took a car off the rack he was working on and ran a few electronic tests and had the GM part delivered in 20 minutes. Then fixed our car, which involved draining a full tank of gas. We walked around the lovely town of Novato and were back on the road on a Friday afternoon within 3 hours. That was a month ago and our Sub has been running great since. This auto mechanic and staff know what they are doing. I would patronize his business again after this service hands down any day of the week if our cars needed repair, but we live in SF. I would highly recommend this auto repair shop if you are in Novato- it was a very positive experience. read more
