First Jamie didn't show up for an initial meet and greet to go over the venue's layout. So, had to drive to the venue again to meet with him. The day of the event, he was passive aggressive and wouldn't listen to our requests. Asked him 1. To not play the music super loud, but he gradually kept turning the volume up as the night went on. 2. He used a smoke machine that emitted a horrible smell and when asked to turn it off, he would turn it off when asked, but then would immediately turn it back on again. This happened at least 3 times. SERIOUSLY - I don't get the hype for this guy. Darren and Monica's review of Jamie's DJ services are reflective of my experience with him. Hired him last year for an elaborate backyard debut party. He was aggressive and rude. During the program - he kept missing music cues for the different speakers and dancers, because he wasn't paying attention. And when I nicely made a comment about it, he blamed me or how I wrote the list he's looking at that he should have been taking cues from. One of the teenaged guests asked him for a song, and he rudely dismissed the request. So when I asked the guests in confidence if they want his services to be extended for the party, my daughter, who was the celebrant, firmly said NO. I've done many friends and family events where I was in charge of procuring the vendors. This was that one party I wasn't proud of because of the DJ. He was terrible and unprofessional to me and our guests. read more

Jamie from Jazcat Mobile Entertainment DJ/MC'ed our recent wedding and I couldn't be happier. He showed up on time and was very flexible with our last minute changes. I was happy with where he decided to set up his equipments. It was the perfect location! Prior to our wedding, Jamie emailed us all the tools we needed to create our music list. He shared with us all of his wedding songs and allow us to view some of his previous wedding music selections. About 50% of our music was from his collection and the rest were songs we like that weren't part of his collection. He was able to find the exact songs we requested! When we had met up with Jamie initially, we expressed our concerns that our guests are just not the "dancing" type. To our surprise, the music he played got the crowd dancing till the very last song! DJ Jaime Larson~ Likes: -He is passionate about his job. -He offers a lot more than other Dj's such as unlimited hours for the day of the wedding plus he threw in lighting and the screen (for our slide show) for free. His lights were not cheesy at all, it was very nice...it even set the mood for our guests to get out on the dance floor. -His price is very reasonable. -Punctual -His equipment such as his wireless mic, speakers, computer, etc. were quality equipment. -My husband made a couple music choices to let him know the kinds of music we wanted and from there Jamie knew the types of songs we wanted all night. Dislikes: -We live in San Francisco and he lives in Sacramento. That meant we met him only once before the event. -Jamie didnt follow up with us during the planning months until the week of the wedding. -We picked our first dance song which was a slow song, but for some reason he either added a remix into it OR he downloaded the wrong version but the beginning and middle part of our slow dance was a little weird. We hired Jamie as the DJ/MC for our wedding this past Fourth of July and his contributions were top notch. He was competively priced, and delivered every penny's worth. From the start he had a plan and yet was willing to hear out everything we said and modify his program appropriately. In prepartion he provided helpful advice and gear, and made sure we felt comfortable and confident; very professional. We together game planned out the night, and and on the 4th he executed our plan to the T. At the wedding reception his MC skills were exactly what we wanted. During the wedding party introductions he kept the crowd alive and involved with a real upbeat tone; he spoke as necessary, and focused on getting everyone's name right. He most certainly avoided that mundane MC crap that everyone fears for at their wedding. He kept the activities going and was very cordial to all who had music suggestions (we asked him to accept requests). Scratching my head by all these stellar reviews for Jamie. We attended a very special 18th birthday party for good friends yesterday that Jamie was hired to DJ. From the minute he walked in to the minute he left, he had the look of annoyance. Sadly during the party it really showed and he was front and center with the honored girl! I felt so sad and embarrassed for my friend who hired him for this big day. He slouched, looked like he was mumbling under his breath the whole time annoyed about something and he overall just did not look professional at all. When he spoke to my friend hosting he was very abrupt and just very rude. Sadly it started to rain outside and he had to move his equipment into the house. Not my friend's fault that it started to rain but he was not happy. When he came into the house he spoke very rudely and loudly that he had to use this space for the equipment. Don't think he understands the concept of customer service and how to ask your customers nicely. I didn't see one smile come from his face the 4 or so hours he was there. When he left all of us looked around like WTF?! was that?! Who was that guy?! And why was he so rude and angry?! Anyways.....2 stars because he played music and did an okay job for a house party for an 18 year old but seriously I can't see anyone hiring him for a big event like a wedding. We hired Jamie for our wedding this past February and he did not disappoint. We knew from the moment we met him that he was professional and experienced. I can't even begin to explain how organized he is with his drop box system. If you are as OCD as me then you will ABSOLUTELY love the ease of his tools. And if you aren't OCD then this will help you organize yourself better than anything else. I was most impressed with the professionalism he had on the day of the wedding. We had a large bridal party of 16 and last minute decided to add in a few more (flower girl and ring bearer) to the grand entrance. My husband and I hired Jamie for our wedding in August 2016 in Nevada City. My opinion of Jamie closely resembles several of the other 2-3 star ratings below. Some aspects of his services were great, others not so much. I feel like I'm being fair, and maybe even a tad generous, in giving him three starts. The good parts: Jamie is well-organized, and clearly knows his music. We enjoyed working with him leading up to the wedding. We had one in-person meeting with him, and a few call and emails. He was polite, but gave his opinions of what he thought would lead to a good wedding flow. His price was also very good, and when I emailed him asking to start the ceremony a half an hour early he agreed without any change in the price. There comes the worst part: he forgot about the timing change! I had emailed him months before the wedding, asking to change the time and asking if we should amend the contract to reflect this. Jamie agreed to the time change, and said it would be fine to continue without changing the contract, and I believed him. But on the day of the wedding, he showed up about an hour and a half before the ceremony, looking rather sour. He didn't come speak to me (although I was his primary contact), so I figured he had it under control. However, once I was all dressed and lined up with my bridesmaids, I get the news that he wanted to keep us waiting another 30 minutes, insisting he was going to "stick with the schedule." All the guests were sitting in the sun, clearly ready, and they would have been baking in the August heat for 30 extra minutes. Eventually it was our venue owner who pulled him aside, stating the obvious - that everyone was ready but him. I wasn't there to hear the details, but I believe he showed a temper and had to be strongly convinced to start at the earlier time we agreed on. Thankfully, our guests didn't know of the minor emergency behind the scenes, and we only started 5 or 10 minutes late. Jamie did an OK job of recovering, and did apologize after the ceremony, admitting he forgot about our conversation. During the dinner, however, he didn't run the show with confidence; eventually my husband and I asked to take to mic and ended up running the open mic and inviting guests to the dance floor - essentially doing his job. The dance floor also wasn't ready until all our guests were awkwardly standing around it for about 5 minutes, waiting for a song to bring them in. It got much better after that - Jamie did throw a darn good dance party. We had a great time and could have kept dancing all night if we didn't have a 10pm quiet time at the venue. Jamie expertly mixed our indie song requests in with standards that got everyone on the floor. Overall, we had a wonderful time, but that's because we were able to roll with the punches that Jamie kept bringing up until the dance party. I agree with posts below - I would hire him to run a dance party only, but I question that he has adequate poise and organization to smoothly handle a wedding. read more

I'm really surprised by all the stellar reviews. There are many hidden reviews... We hired Jamie for our Jewish wedding and were not impressed. During the pre-meeting, Jamie responded aggressively when we told him that we would not have the usual cookie cutter wedding ceremony that he specializes in. My now wife was uncomfortable and had a bad feeling, but I decided to proceed. I should have turned back at that point. Our day of coordinator told us he was late setting up after he repeatedly assured us that he's always 2 hours early. He hadn't looked at our list of songs and itinerary until days before after he aggressively told us to submit it 1 month in advance (which we did). Our coordinator also mentioned that he yelled at her, her helper and all the staff at our venue at various points. She mentioned he was very aggressive and was actually scared to talk with him. For the ceremony, one of the standup mics wasn't in place as we originally requested, so we had to make due. We ended up being ahead of schedule and he wasn't prepared for a quicker timeline even though he had the master schedule. His timing was off at certain transition points, which showed lack of preparation and communication with the coordinator. Also, he started playing a song during an important Jewish dance ritual and the sound turned off for a couple minutes. The crowd picked up singing to fill the gap, but I wasn't happy about it. He even yelled at me (the groom) at one point. I will say that we had a great dance party. My wife and I are big dancers and the entire wedding party was not shy on the dance floor. Jamie did a good job keeping the party consistently rocking until we got shut down after multiple noise complaints. The sound systems he brought worked well except for the one shut down before the dance party. All the mics he provided worked well for speeches. If Jamie was going to just play music for an event, I think he would do a good job, if you can deal with his aggressive nature. If you are planning a more complicated event that has important transitions that require excellent preparation and timing, I wouldn't recommend him. He was flexible on price which was a driving factor for us, but ultimately, you get what you pay for. read more

My parter and I are planning a wedding for next fall. We called to inquire whether or not we could hire him for DJ services only (without the MC service and announcements). I explained to him that we were having a non-traditional event. He responded with "You think you don't need an MC but you will." I then explained that we want our family to make announcements and that we are having a more intimate party. We want a DJ to play great music and understand the timeline of events for the night. He said in a condescending tone, "What do you want a DJ for no money?" In no way did I insinuate that I did not want to pay for his services, only that our wedding would not follow the traditional wedding night itinerary. His tone and overall message throughout the whole conversation was demeaning and rude. He went out of his way to create the perfect background for our photo booth, and made sure I had options and what I was happy with before moving on to the next step. I had Jamie DJ my wedding earlier this summer and I reflect with bittersweet feelings. Overall, I would recommend him but with a few disclaimers. I apologize for the length, but this should paint a picture for you. Pros: Jamie is pretty quick with communication and responds to emails promptly. He has online tools and appears very organized with the preparation process. He also give good tips for other aspects of the wedding such as best man speeches, etc. He was very helpful with our day-of timeline, and I found him to be almost like an extra wedding planner, which was nice. As far as his work, he definitely kept the party going and the music sounded great. Our dance floor was packed from start to finish. All the music that he played was well received and 9/10 times it was a song that we had on our playlist. He MC'd pretty well and kept a solid timeline. As far as what a DJ is supposed to do, he did a fantastic job. Many people complimented him afterwards and said that the DJ was great, so bottom line, that's what matters. Cons: Jamie was a bit of a challenge to work with. He offered to do our ceremony music, but later he backpedaled when we told him it was a 12:00 noon ceremony. I get the impression that he doesn't like to wake up early. When we reminded him that he offered earlier, he tried to double his price of the ceremony quote. The manager of our ceremony site provides speakers and mics for hook-up, but Jamie insisted on bringing all of his own equipment, and the mics kept cutting out for the first 5 minutes of the ceremony. He came down the aisle to fix the mic issue, but he was wearing a big baggy shirt and looked like a slob, and instead of quietly fixing the issue, he stated "You didn't turn off the right mic" to our officiant- all of which our guests heard, and which is now on my wedding video. The reception went well, overall, but one of my bridesmaids went up to him to request a song and he said something like he would only play it if she paid him $20. When we heard that, we were pissed. We did a timeline sequence, so for every year my husband and I were together, Jamie played a song and said a blip about what was significant to us in that year, then played a hit song from that year. We scripted this out for him ahead of time. There was one song where we had him announce a few things, one being that it was the year I turned 21, and he casually added in "This is year she began her road to being an alcoholic!!" ??? In front of all my guests, it was absolutely embarrassing and retarded. It wasn't even funny. One of my brothers is an alcoholic, so it was totally not cool. I paid for him to be there until 7PM, and one of my guests gave him money to stay longer, which I was totally fine with because everyone was having a good time. However, the property manager at our reception site asked him if he checked with the bride first before extending the party, as a professional courtesy. I don't know what words were exchanged, but my wedding planner saw Jamie yell at the property manager and she walked away very flustered. When we were going to give Jamie his final payment, he came into our hotel room and had obviously had a few drinks because he was red in the face, talking very loudly, and he tripped over a bag of stuff on my floor and almost knocked over a lamp on our end table... In his defense, I had been offering him drinks throughout the day and welcomed him to eat our food. But yeah, not super professional. We signed for a photobooth during our first meeting, and two days before the wedding, he emailed me and said that his photobooth guy double-booked that day and he would have to find somebody else. Luckily he came through to his word and the photobooth was a hit, so that was nice...but a bit stressful at the time. TL;DR: He throws a good party, but behind the scenes he can be a challenge to work with and is a bit sassy. read more

Hired Jamie to do photobooth at my daughters quinceanera - he was wonderful!!! Totally professional, responded quickly to my emails, called me for clarifications, and came up with a photo-card template in exactly the style and format I requested. The day of the event, he was on time and set up as requested, he was extremely patient with all the teens and the younger kids that wanted to take a gazillion pics (LOL :) His photo equipment is modern/top notch and he knows how to use it. the pics were great quality and unlimited! Jamie was very detail-oriented which I loved - his props matched the theme and color schemes and were awesome! He worked really with the DJ we had and was sure that people ample notice of last call for pics. He also let guests come up to get reprints/copies of pics, if they wanted. Jamie dropped all the pics onto a flash drive for me that night AND also dropped them into DropBox for me to share easily with family and friends! Lastly, the whole experience was great but the best thing of all was his prices!! They were totally reasonable! I was so happy with Jamie and his team during our wedding! Picking the mc/dj for a wedding is the most nerve-racking part of wedding planning, they basically dictate if it is going to go well or not. We could not be happier with the job Jamie did. He walks you through the planning process and works with you to make sure it is not just fun, but reflective of you. We have had friends and family remark on how well he did, and not only did he get our guests dancing (including the ones who don't usually dance), he got my grandmother (90+yrs.old) to get out on the floor. He takes this seriously and personally, takes pride in the job he does and really gets people involved. He had a good plan, but was able to adapt as things went off schedule (as they almost always do). As hard as it may be to do, you can trust him to run the event. I absolutely recommend him, and we will be contacting him in the future if we need a dj for anything else. We had Jamie DJ our outdoor wedding 3 weeks ago in Oregon House, CA and he did a great job. My wife and I were both extremely happy with him. He was punctual, did a great job responding to emails & phone calls, helping us set up a timeline and adjusting songs as necessary. The dance floor was packed all night and everybody had a great time. When it was time for the reception to end we had guests bugging him to play some more. He played a few more songs while we were cleaning up. That was nice of him since it was late and he still had to tear down all of his equipment, load it up and drive back to Sacramento that night. My colleagues and I previously worked with Jaime at a regional conference (WACUHO) where he and his partner came in to host our karaoke night. They did a phenomenal job with all of us Student Affairs professionals that we wanted to reach out to Jazcat Mobile Entertainment for events we hold on campus here at UC Davis. We recently had Jamie come in on October 27th, 2017 to DJ for Student Housing and Dining Services Homecoming Dance we hosted for all of the residents, and he did another amazing job! The students really enjoyed his lighting and his music! One of the things I heard students compliment on was their ability to request songs and actually have them played. Jaime is really easy to work with and clearly enjoys the work that he does on the turntables. The transition of the songs was on point and there was not really any song played more than once, which is something I personally listen for in a DJ's set. We will continue to contract with Jazcat Mobile Entertainment in the future and highly recommend them if you are looking for a solid DJ, who is easy to work with and really wants to give the client what they want. read more
