We are extremely disappointed with our experience with Forrest Taylor.
Communication throughout the entire process was terrible. Most of the time, we only received automated emails and had very little direct communication. A planning appointment was scheduled just a few weeks before the wedding, and when the time came, he never reached out or showed up for the call. I was the one who had to text him to find out what happened.
Leading up to the wedding, we repeatedly asked for our first dance song so we could rehearse. Despite multiple texts, we received no response. On the actual wedding day, around 1:00 PM while I was getting ready, I had to reach out yet again to ask for the song. When he finally sent it, it was the wrong song, even though we had clearly filled out all the required forms and provided the correct information well in advance.
To make matters worse, his solution was to suggest that we rehearse during cocktail hour, as if we would have time to do that in the middle of taking wedding photos and greeting guests. It showed a complete lack of understanding of how a wedding day actually works.
When the reception started, my wife and I had barely been seated for two minutes before the MC came over and asked if we were ready for our first dance. Nobody had informed us that the song issue had been fixed or attempted to reassure us that everything was ready. Instead, I had to stop everything, explain the situation again, and request to hear the revised version of the song myself before we could proceed.
Even after the correct songs were finally put together, the actual mix was extremely disappointing. The transitions between songs were abrupt, awkward, and sounded rushed, with no smooth flow from one song to the next. As a professional DJ, we expected a much higher level of quality, especially for something as important as our first dance. Looking back, it's not surprising that the mix turned out poorly when it was apparently being put together at the last minute on the day of the wedding. What should have been one of the most memorable moments of our lives ended up feeling stressful and unprepared.
My wife had one specific request regarding the music: please do not play the traditional dance songs that are commonly played at weddings. Despite that clear request, those songs were played anyway.
We also provided a list of must-play artists and a playlist of songs that were important to us. Those requests were largely ignored as well. If you are hiring a DJ because you want your music preferences, requests, and planning forms to actually matter, this was not our experience.
The biggest issue, however, was our first dance. We trusted that one of the most important moments of our wedding would be handled properly. Instead, it became a source of stress, confusion, and frustration throughout the day. It's a moment we can never get back.
For anyone reading this review: if you truly don't care what music is played at your wedding, don't mind repeatedly chasing down your DJ for responses, and are comfortable with your requests, playlists, and planning forms being ignored, then Forrest Taylor may be the right choice for you. If you expect communication, professionalism, preparation, and attention to detail for the moments that matter most, we cannot recommend him based on our experience read more
