I'll start with the positive: the food here was actually pretty good and especially the tonkatsu…read moreramen (duh). The scallion pancake was overfried and the tea I had was way too sweet. I get it that ramen is not a health food, but everything felt a little on the extra greasy side. The real issue was the dining experience! Essentially, the place is a dispenser for Uber drivers and takeout customers sitting there playing on their phones. The decor inside is very basic and devoid of any real character. Think of your run of the mill cheap Chinese restaurant. The constant stream of delivery drivers and ringing bells just made it awkward to sit and wait for the food, which took way longer than expected, even though I was promised it wouldn't, again because of the constant stream of orders. The staff was slightly rude and not very attentive but they were totally overwhelmed. Each time a delivery driver comes and goes, which is practically non-stop, you get a big blast of cold wet air from outside. Also, even though I clearly stated "for here," my food came packaged up to go in a s*** ton of disposable plastic. I get it, mistakes happen or I was misheard, but it just added to the feeling that you are not supposed to sit and eat on premises. It has a similar vibe to when you walk into a $tarbuck$ nowadays and try to order in person at the counter and they give you a quizical look to let you know you are doing it wrong for not using the app or whatever. Overall, it is great that this place seems to be thriving and busy and I wish them success. I will give it another shot. Just don't eat there on person!

It was only for myself and I was a pleased when they were able to get me a seat at the bar right away. It was a very busy Saturday morning but I was helped right away. I chose this restaurant due to them having vegan options and I remember how good it was when I got it in Portland, Maine. The employees were friendly, the food was great. I got the vegan scramble and pancakes (highly recommend)!

Last year, I remember the pancakes being super fluffy and satisfying. They may have changed the menu in the past year, because now they're vegan and gluten-free, and you can tell. A bit dry, not as fluffy, and smaller than I recall. Definitely need syrup, but I do love that you get a little bottle of real maple syrup with them. Some vegan butter could help them but this place doesn't stock that. I also ordered a side of tofu scramble (again, just ran a marathon) and it was very dry. However, I asked for hot sauce and tried their housemade maple turmeric hot sauce and that made the dish. Not too sweet, not too spicy - they should sell this by the bottle! Five stars for atmosphere. If you want a fun diner experience that's cute and not dingy, Friendly Toast delivers. Drinks-wise, I just ordered black coffee. It's very dark and very strong. I watched the bartender and he was making some fun-looking drinks ... can't comment on how they taste but the little juice flight looked appealing (and Instagram-worthy).

I was strolling around downtown Burlington for the day and walked by Zabby & Elf's on my adventure…read more The big front windows were open and it caught my attention because of how lively it was - so many people laughing and having a good time. I continued walking a few blocks and actually stopped to look this place up and see what it was - and immediately turned around and went back lol Such a unique space, I've never seen anything like it! Part fast casual sammiches, part buffet, part community center?? I could see why it was so popular! Everyone in this place just oozed good vibes! I went with the buffet which didn't have a TON of options but still had quite the variety especially for people that are vegetarian (I'm not but love some good veg options!). I don't even remember what all I got but it was a mix of some types of Indian dishes, chicken wings, various marinated veggies and salads. The wings were kinda meh but everything else was very yummy! They gave me a nice piece of bread to go with it and there was communal water in the center of the dining room. It was VERY affordable, I think my bill was around $15. Staff was nice and friendly, I can see why a spot like this is so popular! Definitely a unique find in Burlington!
