Went into the Friendly Toast for Brunch and had an overall good time. The atmosphere inside was fun and it seems like a good college town restaurant. However, the one thing is it was busy and we waited about 45 minutes for our food to come out. Once the food did come out, there was a pancake that was not cooked all the way through, but they were really good about remaking a new one quickly. I decided to try the monte madame, which was interesting. It was so close to being amazing, because I loved the sauce it came in, and the chile sauce over the egg. The Gruyère cheese with ham was also great. However that cheese and ham was on a croissant that had been cooked like French onion toast. In my opinion the slight sweetness and cinnamon did not go well with the other flavors, and it would have been infinitely better had it been savory pan toasted croissant.

A plus for ambiance. Such a fun atmosphere. All the art is very whimsical. As is the menu, I liked the section called "friends with benedicts." Hilarious and tasty! The service was super friendly. Even when I was leaving several workers said bye and thank you. Food was serviced reasonably quickly. Everything was very tasty and they get extra points for being vegetarian friendly. My husband ordered his special and told them to just leave off the bacon (which is what we do at other brunch restaurants.) The server asked if he'd like to make a substitution and named a ton of choices including vegan sausage. Love that! Their tots are homemade -- wasnt expecting that! Parking was surprisingly easy considering we were so close to church street.

Who doesn't like a good brunch on a vacation!? Absolutely love this place. The host was very nice, informed the waiting time (20min) and let us waited inside by the bar. It's very popular at the area. The decoration gives modern contemporary art look. Very vibrant and colorful. I got egg Benedict with tater tots. Great poached eggs, runny as how I want it. Tater tots are huge (I'm not sure this is a VT thing). Bathroom is clean. Staff were very friendly. Enough space between tables. Definitely recommend if you are in the town.

We picked the Friendly Toast for Sunday brunch during our trip. Upon arriving at the restaurant around 9:30 am, it was super full, including the bar. We joined their waiting list that had live update for the wait time. While we waited, I looked at the restaurant. It was so colorful, with its red/green colors, gaming themed arts, paintings, decors and sparkling cushion seats. We got our table after about 25 minutes of waiting. I ordered the bulgogi steak and cheese sandwich, alongside side of two eggs. It was a delicious sandwich filled with complimentary ingredients like slaw and aioli. The eggs were cooked perfectly as requested. We also got the cookie monster pancakes. It came with a bottle of maple syrup, that was so cool. The pancakes were fluffy and sweet. The mango lemonade was a good drink as well. Overall the brunch was amazing. The staff were friendly. They forgot to bring couple of our drinks until we reminded the waitress. The food came out within a decent time. I'd recommend this place to anyone visiting Burlington and also suggest join the waitlist online while you start heading towards the restaurant.

    Steak B'Omelet

I got the steak b'omelet which I enjoyed, although I don't know that the dorito crumble added much. The drink we ordered, the coffe toast crunch, was watery and the whip cream tasted worse than canned whip cream from the store--don't know what went wrong there.

I used to think this restaurant was the best brunch spot in Burlington with no doubt in my mind, however I'm extremely disappointed with my experience today. My first observation was that the menu has gotten significantly worse: 1. Much smaller 2. At least 20% more expensive 3. Their staples were no longer - they have 2-3 types of 'sweet stuff:' pancakes, and French toast. The pancakes were either standard or standard with *chocolate whipped cream!* 4. The non-alcoholic drink menu is firstly difficult to find, but that's attributed to the fact that there ARE none! Like 3 or 4 options. Most of which revolved around lemonade (which, granted was very good). Secondly, not to the fault of the restaurant per se, but our server was impatient, slightly rude, unhelpful, insincere, and quite frankly neglectful. We were barely checked on, my partner didn't get her coffee until after we all had our water and other drinks... And we had to ask her. The coffee was already brewed and right next to our table. I'm going to start getting a little nitpicky as I was once a server. She didn't give us 5 seconds to decide on something before she said "I'll just give you a minute." We didn't need a minute, we needed 2 seconds of patience and respect. She didn't ask us if we wanted a box, or if we wanted a to-go cup for our still-full drinks. But was able to place the check on the table and say "whenever you're ready!" After she sat there while we put in our tip, she then gave me a snarky look after she glanced at what we provided her. Onto more important things... 1. The portions were SMALL. I mean noticeably smaller than it used to be. I got the megs American, and it used to fit solidly in my hand; I wasn't able to finish 1/2 of it. After having the laughable 'plate' of chicken for the appetizer and some tots (which we actually solid!) I still was able to finish the burrito and the also laughable amount of potatoes. The French toast was actually pretty good, but the fresh berries came with a whole 1 1/2 strawberries and maybe 6 blueberries. Overall, I can confidently say this was the worst experience I've had at this restaurant, and the changes they did to the menu, prices, and portions will be the downfall of this once exceptional establishment.

Had such a great experience here! We made a reservation ahead of time and when we showed up our table was ready outside with a high chair for our baby. The service was excellent, from the host to our waitress. The place is cute, right off of Church st with a nice little outdoor patio. The food was great. Had a burger and chicken & waffles and it was all very good and came out quickly. Going out to eat with a baby can be stressful, but this was the best experience that we've had.

Not sure how anyone could rate this less than a 5! Don't leave without trying the churro bites.....spicy strawberry habanero sauce on the side to dunk....awesome!

Popular spot so I suggest getting reservations. We've been to another friendly toast location and they are all super good. They all have high standards and we've never been disappointed. The actual spot is so cute and there's so many things to look at. Yummy place!!

Wouldn't let a 15 month old eat outside food/drink. This demonstrates despite the restaurant name, it is not a family friendly location.

We tried a few things: * croissant - super flaky and perfectly made. * breakfast sandwich - with sausage. Buttery and crispy edges toast with fried egg and melted cheese with sausage. One of my favorite breakfast sandwiches ever. * banner eighteen - a play on cheesesteak with broccoli mushrooms and shaved steak in a sesame hogie. This one had slight spice and a slight taste reminiscent of a combination pizza. It's a big sandwich and quite tasty. * oatmeal raisin cookie - not too sweet which I loved. Chewy. * fresh baquette. Bread . . . . . * maple lemonade - slightly sweet with a good bit of tartness. It was good! I'd definitely comeback here if I'm craving some sandwiches

We tried the eat the east breakfast sandwich ($11) and the vermonter sandwich ($16). I especially liked the vermonter sandwich and the bread it came on. The cafe also sells various bread items and baked goods. One thing to note is that since the cafe is counter-serve, seating is also first come first serve. We were able to snag a seat right as someone left, but for that reason I would recommend coming at a less peak time if able. August First is deservedly a busy spot in Burlington and I would be there often if I were a local.

I had great expectations because of reviews and I hate to leave a negative review on popular places. The cashier/server was friendly, and the place has a classic small American café vibe, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the food really missed the mark for me. The "crispy cheese" just tasted burnt rather than crispy, and there were way too many greens--cilantro and parsley--which completely overpowered the sandwich. I also didn't care for the sauces at all. Overall, it wasn't a good sandwich. I didn't even finish it and ended up going somewhere else to eat. Between the long wait and the disappointing food, I don't think I'd come back.

The menu is a little chaotic and hard to read, but I did my research beforehand and knew I probably wanted the brakefast sandwich. Luckily Nate ordered the special number 8 and my friend got the basterd bing, so we all kind of shared. Everything is vegetarian! The employee taking our order was super friendly and kind, very much appreciated! We also got some coffee drinks and a donut to share. The donuts are made with biscuit dough, which was interesting and tasty. The texture is quite dense but not dry. Our food was ready quickly and the portions were large - you could definitely share something if you're not super hungry. I need to take a moment to talk about the number 8 sandwich. It BLEW MY MIND in the greatest way ever. I LOVE when I eat foods I've never had, even more so when those foods are delicious and mind-boggling. This is a breakfast sandwich on a tasty sesame bun and it features chicken fried egg. So imagine a pile of scrambled eggs that they somehow deep fry(???) and it turns into something that so closely resembles fried chicken it's wild. Seriously I'm still thinking about this sandwich. I know it sounds so weird but really you just have to try it. The brakefast sandwich was good, but VERY MESSY. Plan for lots of napkins. I will be back for the number 8.

Servers are made to feel incompetent over the smallest mistakes, like one error suddenly ruins everything, yet the kitchen is apparently allowed to make mistakes without the same treatment or accountability. The double standard was impossible not to notice. What really shocked me was seeing staff get yelled at in front of customers. At one point I saw a server visibly holding back tears after being spoken to so harshly. It created such an uncomfortable atmosphere while trying to eat breakfast. The kitchen staff was also loudly cursing throughout the restaurant. It made the environment feel chaotic and hostile, especially considering there were kids around. Honestly, I didn't want to hear that either while trying to enjoy a meal. Manager Kim also came across as snarky and arrogant toward staff, which completely put me off. The attitude from management overall seemed toxic and dismissive. The food itself was fine -- nothing special, but reasonably priced. Unfortunately, decent prices don't make up for the environment. I also witnessed staff openly talking badly about people behind their backs, which only added to the negativity. Overall, it was a horrible experience, and I can't justify supporting a business that appears to treat its employees so poorly. No restaurant is worth that kind of environment.
