My first time was with Michele, and I loved hearing her story and passion about creating a talented and calm space for her art. She is compassionate and great at serving her clients! Loved my hair after! It's really a wonderful, clean, and serene spot. The last two times I was with Ali, and I loved my hair each time! As a busy stay at home mom, I usually only get my hair done once in a while so having it look good for the long term is a must. The first time around I specifically came in bc I was getting some family photos done for the holidays. I had some long layers and balayage (I'll attach some of the family photos done by Alyssa Vanzo Photography so people can see!) Most recently I came in to get my hair darkened and shorter. I'll be back again as a regular client! Also-- congrats to Ali & her upcoming wedding! Wishing Ali a special day, and even more wonderful marriage!

I needed a blowout for a wedding and usually have a few trusted people I book with, but because of…read morethe holiday weekend and limited availability everywhere, I decided to give this salon a try after reading the reviews. The salon itself was nice and the staff seemed friendly. At first, everything seemed fine, and I clearly explained how I wanted my hair styled. I have a short bob that can be styled in a lot of different ways. When my stylist parted my hair down the middle, I got a little nervous but hoped it would turn out okay. The entire service was done with just a round brush and blow dryer. When she finished, I was honestly disappointed and told her so. The style made me feel like I looked like a little boy, and I said I could have achieved the same result myself at home. She responded by saying that's just how my hair responds, but I disagreed because I've had my hair styled many times before and know what it's capable of. (Basically I called BS) I even offered to show photos of previous blowouts I've loved. What I asked for was simple, some volume with a slightly sleek finish. I also mentioned that my hair can be parted in different ways. At one point she suggested curling it, but after later looking at the salon's website, I noticed they charge extra for flat iron or curling iron work, which may explain why it wasn't initially offered. To her credit, she did try to fix it, and it looked better, but overall I still wasn't very happy with the experience. I paid, tipped, and moved on, but for $45, I personally didn't feel it was worth it. Unfortunately, I wouldn't return.

Hmmm~ Where to start... So when I first started going here I was so overwhelmingly blown away by…read morehow amazing Tessa was & not only w/ her knowledge, but, w/ her natural abilities & willingness to listen/take time/really make sure her client was pleased. I've always been satisfied, and, am the first to admit I can be fussy; I mean, who really isn't when it comes to looking nice?! I've always felt welcomed & heard. Tammy is as amazing & surely the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I would rave to everyone & anyone who I spoke w/ about how great they are. Fast forward & my latest experience really has me bummed out. I couldn't get in b/c getting an appt. is very difficult w/ the schedule lately & especially if you prefer your normal stylist. I felt comfortable enough to try someone new & trusted that I would be just as pleased. No offense b/c this person is super kind/nice & nothing personal, but, I surely wish that the professionals would have walked me through a bit more w/ how my grays would react adversely to the bleach highlights. My hair is soo super dry now & my nice & normally long layers are super choppy & unruly & are driving me nuts. I loved that Tessa was so conservative w/ her charging me & she's always charged me the very same amount. It's been nice for sure. I was charged much more (I respect the fact that most likely due to the dumb highlights I thought I would be pleased w/), but, still NOT happy that I spent so much to now be so unhappy & stuck w/ a dried head of choppy layers that aren't falling smooth & as sweet as they used to. Again, yes, fussy, but, when we go to a salon & especially one we've gone to many, many times b4 I would surely hope to be happy enough w/ the hairstyle/services at least until the next time. Not so. I'm bummed.:((((( ***Update*** Not quite sure how to update, but had to b/c let me tell you Tammy the owner is the bomb. She's amazing & quickly got back to me. She has provided me some products to help & did so ever so quickly. I've revised my review b/c she has reached out to me w/ kindness & I appreciate that.

I alway say, "It's a NYC salon in Penfield..all the talent and craft with zero attitude!" and its taken me so long to write a review because selfishly , I don't want them to get busier than they are! The stylists at BANGZ! are all lovely, accommodating, and never have a one-size-fits-all approach, treating each of us like the individual Queens we are. Their work makes me feel like on every. single. time.

Like so many things labeled "fusion" out there, Fusion Salon tends to do American much better than…read morethey do ethnic. Recalling the fondness my most fashionable (White) friend from college had for this place, I came to this place in August 2010. I had just received an iffy haircut from a cheap Asian hairdresser in Swillberg with rudimentary texturizing and fading skills and I wanted something a step above the standard 15-minute haircut. I figured if anyone could cut my difficult hair well, it would be these guys. At first glance, Fusion was all I had ever dreamed of in a salon. They had comfortable chairs and an extensive magazine collection in the waiting area, Vampire Weekend and other cool indie tunes pumping from the speakers, local art on the walls, and Harney & Sons tea in the pantry. The massive leather barber's chair in which I sat to get my haircut was even more comfortable than the chairs in the waiting room and a peppermint facial massage and hot towel treatment came with every haircut. At $30 plus tip, the price was a little steep, but I loved everything about this place. Except my haircuts. While Jes gave me decent, fashion-forward haircuts when I first started going there, it was never exactly what I asked for and I found more and more wrong with the end results as time went on. After about 5 months, I began noticing unevenness (I'm talking 1/2 inch difference from left to right sides) and my fade soon began to resemble a bowl cut. Admittedly, I have two large protrusions of bone on both sides of my head and my Asian hair is ultra straight, but over the years, I have discovered that these things could be compensated for by cutting my hair to a certain shape, rather than cutting it based on how it might look in a couple of weeks or how you believe my hair might eventually fall. Asian hair doesn't fall. Like a bad relationship, I continued going to Fusion probably much longer than I should have because I was comfortable. I liked the people who worked there, I liked the atmosphere, and the haircuts were satisfactory, at times. I knew how difficult it was for me to find someone who could actually cut my hair and I had tremendous anxiety when thinking about searching for a new salon. But I had to break it off. I'm not saying that Fusion Salon isn't a good place to get your haircut. I'm sure if I were a White woman looking to update her look or a White man asking for something easy, I'd probably still go here every three to four weeks. Unfortunately, I don't fall into either of these categories.

Free drinks, a scalp massage, hot towels... sorry, where was I?…read more Going to Fusion is a fun and relaxing experience. The atmosphere is chill and hip, the staff focused and talented. I've seen Nico many times and he always helps me figure out the right cut, gives me ways to style it, and really puts in extra care, thought, and time. Some of my friends go to Andrea, and I've heard amazing things about Jes. These guys are top notch! A little on the pricey side (depends on who you see) but ask about student discounts.
