I needed a blowout for a wedding and usually have a few trusted people I book with, but because of the holiday weekend and limited availability everywhere, I decided to give this salon a try after reading the reviews. The salon itself was nice and the staff seemed friendly. At first, everything seemed fine, and I clearly explained how I wanted my hair styled. I have a short bob that can be styled in a lot of different ways. When my stylist parted my hair down the middle, I got a little nervous but hoped it would turn out okay. The entire service was done with just a round brush and blow dryer. When she finished, I was honestly disappointed and told her so. The style made me feel like I looked like a little boy, and I said I could have achieved the same result myself at home. She responded by saying that's just how my hair responds, but I disagreed because I've had my hair styled many times before and know what it's capable of. (Basically I called BS) I even offered to show photos of previous blowouts I've loved. What I asked for was simple, some volume with a slightly sleek finish. I also mentioned that my hair can be parted in different ways. At one point she suggested curling it, but after later looking at the salon's website, I noticed they charge extra for flat iron or curling iron work, which may explain why it wasn't initially offered. To her credit, she did try to fix it, and it looked better, but overall I still wasn't very happy with the experience. I visited for the first time last night an hour before close. I was getting a long hair cut with layers and adding face-framing bangs after growing out my bangs the past two years. (I also have an important event in a few days, so I was nervous about trying a new stylist.) I've always loved Aveda salons, so I booked with Lisa, a master stylist. Right out of the gate, the entire staff was not only tolerant of my service dog but welcoming. ‍ I typically bring a padded mat for him, but we were crunched for time getting there after work. I didn't mention his mat, but they automatically offered to bring my dog a towel to lay on, which he loved. Lisa asked many clarification questions as to the look I was going for. She let me show her pics and describe my experience with my natural waves and certain products. She told me we would take off the majority of the bangs and then come back after she'd cut the back. Aside from adding subtle layers, I asked her to take off very little length. She listened, which is not ways the case with stylists as we all well know! She then made three passes at my bangs based on not wanting to take off too much. I really appreciated her level of care, empathy, and patience with my service dog and me. I also discussed starting demi coloring with her and asked several questions about products she used to style my fresh cut. I loved how she didn't push products on me like some people do. She was all about making me comfortable Nd happy! Needless to say, she's my new stylist, and I can't recommend her enough! read more

Gordon is so good! From the first time I met with him, he took great care of me and my hair. He tested it to make sure it was healthy to do anything before he made his suggestions. I love Tru on Park. Rachel helped me plan my wedding hair all the way from Texas. When I flew home to Rochester with only 3 days until my wedding she was very accommodating with my tight timeframe. She colored my hair and did voMor extensions. She did an awesome job and I was so happy with how my wedding hair turned out. I ended up moving back to Rochester, NY in 2022 and Rachel has been doing my hair since. She is great at hearing/understanding what I want and helping me by making recommendations for me. I got the best haircut I think I've ever had in my 65-year lifetime at Tru on Park. Not only is their online appointment system seamless, but everyone was very kind and helpful. I was not pressured to buy product (though I did because they smell so wonderful) and Lisa listened carefully to what I wanted, made helpful suggestions and showed real expertise on my cut. Clean and pretty. I personally don't like the Park Ave area due to the parking situation and this place was no different. Had to call to get in once I walked there from the lot and get my temperature taken. Then had to wait 20 minutes -- and I'm not counting my 5-10 minutes of getting there early of course. I forgot who my hair stylist was, she was nice, but after I told her what I wanted, she just said okay and cut the final product (no stopping and checking if the length was good etc). The length ended up fine but I did not want it to be styled in a bob Karen-like fashion. I would've been able to say no if she asked but I didn't have the heart to stop her once I discovered what she was doing. She also got me to buy a keratin treatment promotion thing that was going on; it went by quick and made my hair very smooth for that day but it didn't last long. It wasn't worth it in my opinion, however she did mention it's something to keep up with (doing it every so often), so that could be it. Went there today for the first time for a hair cut. I had grown my hair out for a year so I could get this style that I wanted. Showed the girl a picture and everything and she cut it nothing like it. She cut it about two inches too short too. I told her I didn't like it and that it didn't look anything like the picture, so she called someone over to fix it. Not once did they apologize or seem apologetic for the bad hair cut. It looked better the second time, but I ended up buying over priced products from them, something I usually never do, that came out to over $50, just so I could have something to fix the mess they made of my hair. I was even gracious enough to leave them a nice tip. No thanks from them or anything. I highly doubt I'll be returning. read more

Colleen has cut my hair several times and today she added the red color that I have been missing as I awaited old color to grow out. I have been searching for a place to get my haircut since I moved here. I was hopeful about tru, and they were able to fit me in for a last minute appointment! Gordon gave me an AWESOME haircut - exactly what I wanted. Left feeling happy and taken care of. However, the style I got required maintenance, and I was thrilled to see online there was complimentary "bang trim". I went back, got my bangs trimmed (beautifully), but then was charged $10 at the end of the appointment. When I asked "but your website says it's free?" the receptionist said "yeahhh ... well we have to charge you anyways." I felt very confused and also frustrated (but still paid). This is a great salon and I am planning on coming back! They did a very good job but I thought it was really pricey for what I got. I was able to get in the same day that I called even though it is close to the holidays. On the phone they told me that my appointment was with a new talent so I was expecting it to be on the cheaper side of their price range. My appointment ended up being with Colleen who is a master stylist! I loved her and she was very good at giving me input since I wasn't sure how to achieve a look that I would love. I wanted something that would be easy to achieve and maintain which I got and she explained how often I should get a touch up to be the most efficient. I felt like for the amount of work she put in on my hair it was expensive but maybe she was just very efficient. Yesterday was my first appointment with Tru Salon on Park. I called that day to see if they had any openings, and it was just my luck that they did. They also take walk-in's, but I wanted to call ahead of time to be sure. I was set up with the stylist Colleen, and she was amazing! She gave me such an excellent short asymmetrical haircut - exactly what I wanted - and I am so happy with it! Since it is an Aveda salon, they also give a complimentary scalp massage before your cut. Their products are top notch, and I definitely left with my hair looking and feeling so much healthier. I'm so happy to have finally found a salon in Rochester!
