I have again used yelp projects to find an electrician this time. I got quotes from 4 different electricians and JC was the only one to offer to come out next day. I didn't put much in my yelp request but the other vendors quoted me higher prices anyway without an evaluation first. It started with a light not working and ended up needing a light switch replacement and rewire of the connectors to have the right wattage. Came out to $300 which was reasonable considering others quoted more for less work. JC was very professional and showed me every detail before performing any work. He stopped and asked before making a change that would cost more and I feel much safer with his electrical work. I will use him again in the future. read more

I had been having a terrible, drawn-out experience last week with another outfit and called JC Alameda Electrician Services. Juan Carlos (JC) squeezed me in on Saturday morning before his other appointments. He whooshed in, identified the problem (a standing lamp that needs to be retired), replaced the loose breaker, let me confirm that all lights and outlets were now working, gave me a safety recommendation (a space heater I'd been using was too powerful for my circuits and thus dangerous to use), and tightened all the screws on the electrical panel (noting that any electrician should do that during a visit regardless of the purpose of the visit). He did all of this over the course of about 25 minutes. And he did it for half the price that the other company charged just as the baseline fee. I've found a new electrician. read more

Considering the exceeding expedience of Juan Carlos' work, I figure it's only appropriate that I provide a marginally less expedient review of his services. TLDR; Great working with JC, fair prices, quality/reliable work, and generally just a friendly guy to work with. My wife and I moved into our house a little over a year ago, and we'd had a dangling lightbulb with a rattan shade in the center of our living room (unfortunately doesn't seem we had a picture, but it was giving interrogation room-core). We decided to finally address the eyesore and kill two birds by switching it out for a fan light to help with the East Bay heat. So there I was, my partially assembled Haiku ceiling unit courtesy of Big Ass Fan's, lazy Sunday playlist going, multimeter finally set up to make sure I don't electrocute myself, ready to get into some solid Home Improvement. As I'm reading the instructions, I find out there's this thing called a "fan-rated" junction box, which apparently has to be installed separately. Panicked the dinner I'm hosting in a few nights will need to be by lamplight underneath an exposed junction box, I quickly hopped to Yelp. JC was the first to respond (on a Sunday evening no less), and was able to come by the very next day to check out the junction box and provide a free estimate. There were some challenges in not being able to access the box from the attic, but after agreeing on what needed to be done and on the very reasonable quote, he popped out quick to buy a kit and then came back to do the install. In less than an hour's time he had the new junction set up AND the fully assembled fan running. He had me run a couple tests on the unit (e.g. see if it flies out the window while on max speed), and everything was perfectly smooth. He made a point of laying down plastic tarp before starting, and had cleaned up all the plaster and debris from the additional cuts needed to install the new junction. We needed a new GFCI outlet in our bathroom and Juan did a phenomenal job. He seamlessly wired the new outlet into our breaker panel, and when he finished you could hardly tell he had been here. Our 1940 house was in need of new outlets and switches in the upstairs bedrooms. Our kitchen and bath had been remodeled, but the rest of the house was ungrounded two-prong outlets and some were so worn it was concerning. We ended up rewiring all of the areas of the house with old wiring, a major job. Juan Carlos installed a new 100 amp subpanel and connected it to the main panel. He replaced all of the outdated outlets and added several outlets in each room and a new outlet on the outside of the house (very helpful now that we are setting up Christmas lights). He also replaced all of light switches and repaired my defective hanging lamp and installed a new one. The job was fairly complex and took over a week to complete. Juan Carlos and his assistant were very considerate and communicated when power would be out, where and for how long. The cost was per the estimate and reasonable for the scope of work. read more

We suddenly lost power to several of our electrical outlets which were being used by our main television and entertainment center (crisis!). We checked the circuit breakers but still couldn't get anything to work, so I had to run a long extension cord from another room (hazard!) to keep things powered up. I contacted JC Alameda Electrician Services and Juan was available that same day so we set up an appointment for the afternoon. Juan was on time and was very friendly and professional. He did some troubleshooting and was able to quickly diagnose the problem and in less than half an hour had replaced one of our "faulty" outlets which restored power to the other outlets in the room. I finally found an electrician whom I can rely on and does a great job at fair price. My smoke alarm went off a few weeks ago and it is located on the ceiling where it can only be accessed via a ladder. Juan Carlos came over and replaced the battery but after couple of weeks when it went off for couple of weeks, he came over and changed the entire unit which is hard-wired the next day.
