Unfortunately, the restroom did not have an outlet to plug in my curling iron. I decided to go to the salon and ask if I was able to use an outlet and Abby was so sweet and curled my hair for me. I can totally see why the JCPenney brand has been struggling of late--just based on the presentation, counterintuitive design and subpar selection within this store. To be honest, I tend to prefer shopping online when it comes to JCPenney, and I can't remember the last time I walked into one of these stores. What really threw me off about the Meyerland location from the beginning is the register being right near the door. If you're entering Macy's, Dillard's or even an old Foley's (back in the day), oftentimes you'd see cosmetics and skincare counters with shoes possibly nearby. I could be wrong, but I found it odd that there were no visible accessories. Walking around, the first section to the right was a men's section. When I got to the women's section, I walked around the entire section and found the wrong sizes mixed with the sizes I usually shop. A few observations: 1. Most of the slacks were overpriced. Colors were limited mainly to black, with hardly any navy, gray, khaki or even white--or other colors. 2. There were too many sweaters or out of season long sleeved shirts. 3. There were too many frumpy floral prints among the shirts. 4. Very few stylish pieces. 5. The sale items were not that great. 6. Where are the short sleeve shirts? It is literally 100 degrees outside almost every day. Maybe I can give this location another try one day, but even though I walked out with two items, this store visit kind of felt like a waste of time. read more

not sure if it's the Meyerland store or JCPenney online as a whole but I looked up the Keratin Complex shampoo and conditioner on my iPad and it showed $40 each BOGO 40% off so I ordered 3 bottles of shampoo and 3 bottles of conditioner. When if came time for me to pay, i opened the shopping cart on my laptop and it showed $50 per bottle. I wish someone from JCPenney can explain to me why the price increase $10 going from iPad to my laptop????? You just increase the price of the product because you know someone is looking at it and would eventually buy it? Of course I didn't buy them and found another site for much cheaper. Y'all. Buckle up, because this is the epic tale of "The $120 Curtain Rod and My Broken Toe." Picture it: me and my dog, frolicking on the beach like we're in a rom-com montage. It's overcast; the wind is dramatic--perfect for a slow-motion run along the shore. That is, until I take one heroic misstep and BOOM: seven hours later, I'm in the ER with a busted toe and a very confused dog. Fast forward a week. I've got a giant boot on my foot, a follow-up radiology appointment, and the ill-advised idea to stop by JCPenney for a simple curtain rod. Just one. Nothing fancy. We find the rod after 30 minutes of wandering the aisles like lost souls in retail purgatory. Victory! We shuffle over to the register nearest the curtain section, but the employees are like, "Oh no, you can't check out here. You have to go to one of the registers on the floor." Okay, fine. I'm hobbling. My toe is throbbing. But I'm on a mission. We reach the floor register and immediately realize we've entered a side quest. An elderly couple is trying to cash a check. At JCPenney. In the year of our lord 2025. I'm 90% sure no one working there knows how to use the register, let alone process a check. People are coming and going, scratching their heads like it's a Sudoku puzzle from hell. TWENTY MINUTES later, someone finally looks at us and goes, "Oh, there's another register... on the other side of the store." Now it's personal. Me and my busted toe boot limp across the store like we're crossing the Sahara. We reach the next register, only to find... no cashier. Of course. We wait five more minutes and someone appears, but the guy ahead of us wants to know the price of every single item before committing. He's basically hosting his own private QVC show. Finally, FINALLY, it's our turn. We scan the curtain rod and the machine says: $120. One. Hundred. And. Twenty. American. Dollars. For a curtain rod! It wasn't made of gold. It wasn't encrusted with diamonds. It was not, to our knowledge, enchanted. We left. No rod. No dignity. Just a limp and some existential questions. In the end, we bought the exact same rod on Amazon for like, $28. So thank you Jeff Bezos, our begrudging savior of the day. TL;DR: I broke my toe, lost my faith in retail, and gained a great story. I scheduled a pet photo session through their website days in advance. Two hours before the session, this JC Penny called me and cancelled my appointment, saying that they wouldn't do pet sessions during the day. We had already driven across Houston to make our appointment. The manager was extremely unhelpful, and did not care at all about cancelling our appointment with no notice. As much as I don't agree with this place, I sure find myself here a few times a year. Note - I ONLY COME HERE IF THERE IS A SUPER DEAL OR I HAVE A COUPON. I live close to Meyerland plaza, so this is an easy stop because they have a Sephora inside. Mind you, it isn't as extensive as a regularSephora, but they do have a selection. Not a huge one, but it's something. I often find the clothes here don't fit my body type and are cheaply made, however every now and then I'll find something. They also have a jewelry selection, men's and women's department, shoe department, children's department, bras, pajamas, home goods and bedding department. They even have a hair salon inside. Oh - and seasonal gifts. Here is what I really can't stand about JC Penney, the prices are astronomical, then they will mark things down as if you are getting a deal. No! Their regular prices should be their deal price on everything. As I mentioned before their clothes and just about everything else are are pretty cheaply made. It blows my mind that so many people shop here because their prices are insane for the quality. You can find better deals on higher end products at Macy's, TJ Maxx, Old Navy, heck even Target etc. This should be your last resort when looking for items - OR if there is a huge deal your getting. Stood in line to return something only to get to the register & was told returns are upstairs in the home department. A sign at all the entrances would have been very helpful information. Went upstairs & only saw a sign that said "order pickup". No employees were around for me to ask where the return register was so I stood in the order pickup line. As I slowly inched forward (unfriendly staff has no sense of urgency whatsoever), I noticed there was a small sign that said fine jewelry must be returned to the fine jewelry department and another sign that said beauty products must be returned to the beauty department. I reckon there are customers who lose their patience or cool after standing in multiple lines to try to return stuff because management doesn't post adequate signs to direct customers on where to go for specific returns. read more

My family started the new year at JCPenney Portrait studio in Meyerland. The service was stellar! The front desk attendant was pleasant, helpful, and persuasive when showing us our photos, without being pushy. I cannot say enough about the photographer, Hezkiel. He was absolutely phenomenal! Hezkiel was professional in his demeanor as well as in his craft. This session was by far our most favorite and most memorable and I would (and have already) recommend this location for anyone looking for a traditional family photo with a twist! read more

Help! I'm addicted to JC Penny's Easter sale. I was just at the Memorial City Mall yesterday. I had to find those clothes I didn't buy. I remember I came to this store for home furnishings before. Boy, it must be awhile back. As soon as I walked in, I was already lost. I was concentrating on the Red Zone signs. They were everywhere. When I saw it in the men's department, my eyes were lit up. It was a mess, but I love mess. The mess made shopping more fun. I first look for the color, style, and then texture. I knew they misplace sizes on purpose. I quickly picked out what I wanted and heading to the fitting room. Checking out was a breeze. There was a pair of "sleepwear" didn't have a price tag. Thanks to the cashier searched in the computer but I won't pay the full price. Looked like I never made the $25 minimum this time. But 25% off of these already masked down merchandise, I already felt happy. This Meyerland store appeared to be a level below the Memorial City Mall store. The aisles are narrow with racks in the middle making them narrower. I almost tripped on my bad knee. Customers and staff needed more fashionable sense. In other words, the male staff needed some kind of dress code like those guys at suit department. I don't know, but few I've seen need better fitted pants, immediately. read more

I was on my way to a party on the Southside and decided to stop by and see if I could find some sort of gift card for a birthday present. I kind of wondered if they would have calling cards (wishful thinking), but that did not happen. I had to make a return anyway, so it wasn't a blank trip. However, the variety of gift cards available was not many. Kohls and Kroger definitely have a better selection. Since my earring return was granted (I just bought the blasted things one day ago), I was pretty satisfied with my visit. This review is based on the portrait studio. I bought a Groupon and of course waited until the last minute to redeem it. I have been needing to get professional business photos taken so I thought this would be a good opportunity since the Groupon was only $20 and I wasn't looking for anything too extravagant. I was able to book the appointment online which was convenient. The website is pretty user friendly. I had questions about what to bring with me so I called to see if I could speak to someone. No one answered the phone, so I left a message. No one returned my call, so I called back a few days later and was finally able to speak to someone. She was friendly enough and answered my questions. They book appointments in 15 minute increments and they fill up fast so you definitely shouldn't wait until the last minute to reserve a spot, especially if you're looking for a weekend time slot. I made sure to get there early (though the lady said I only needed to get there about 10-15 minutes ahead of time). They have a changing room, though the lady on the phone said there wouldn't be time to change into different outfits. She did give me suggestions however on photo ideas (i.e. with a blazer and without to change it up). When you get there, you can pick your background and props. Since I was just getting a business portrait, I opted for the gold/brown background. The photographer was really nice. I did a few poses (sitting and standing). Afterwards, you can look at the proofs and choose the ones you like. My Groupon was for 3 digital copies and 1 print. The digital copies were available within 24 hours. The print took about a week to be ready. It's really a great deal. I was very pleased with how the photos turned out. You can also get your photo on coffee mugs, throw pillows, etc. I don't know if I would spend the regular price on photos, but Groupon has photo deals all the time, so I would recommend using Groupon if you need some quick inexpensive photos. read more

They try to keep the fitting rooms clutter free, but people are sometimes faster than the employees. But at least they try. The fitting rooms on the 2nd floor are never open. How are you primarily a clothing store and don't have the fitting room accessible and convenient for customers? Your store is too large to be going back and forth between floors to try on multiple pieces of clothing. Also your employees are too relaxed in guest service. In mid transaction they will stop just to socialize with another employee instead of completing the service with the customer. What a complete and utter disappointment. My family will be moving soon and are in need of a mattress, sectional, chair with ottoman, chaise lounger and a few other items. I scoped out what JC Penny offers online and found some items that were my "go-tos." This morning I drove from Midtown over to Meyerland to scope out what I had seen online. NO FURNITURE IN THE STORE. The closest store that has furniture is San Antonio--eek! Seriously? What bone head came up with the bright idea that Houstonians can just get stuff online and do not actually need to see it, touch it, sit on it, etc? I buy a lot of items online. I am not adverse to online shopping, but furniture is not something I feel comfortable just hoping it feels OK and will wear well. Nope. Not this gal. So very disappointed and saddened. My husband and I bought a great tuxedo here for the same price as a cheap rental from another company! We purchased his entire Tux outfit for 50% off! If we would have purchased a tux from a rental company then we would have wasted money in the end if he ever needed a tux again. The best part is that the tux fits like a glove, so we don't even need to spend extra money on getting it fitted! I am so pleased we came to this JCPenney despite the other negative reviews. It was very easy to find a tuxedo outfit - jacket, plants, shirt, cufflinks, bowtie, cummerbund, and shoes. They had a full range of sizes and fits to select from. My husband went in to buy a blazer for his suit because he does security and saw the blazers had a "Sale" sigh over them, found one he wanted and took it to the front... when he went to pay they tell him that blazer is not for sale someone must have placed it in the wrong spot. Now me being me I'm going to definitely go back and forth with you about how that's not my fault, however my husband is not like that. He is definitely the go with the flow type... so they sent him back to look for a different one, this time he had a different employee tell him which rack was the right one. He finds another he likes and went to pay and again they tell him it's not on sale... At this point I'm on the phone telling him he needs to tell them it's not his fault they have the blazers on the wrong rack. But again he just decided to take what he had and pay and leave. I'm leaving this review because I've worked retail and understand people place things on the wrong rack sometimes but the 2nd or 3rd time he's told it's wrong it should've just been comped simply because it's inconvenient for one to get in and out of line and have people waiting. I still work in customer service and as wrong as some people may be I will make sure their experience is a great one! I hope Ms. Saunters enjoyed making someone's life a little more difficult today! read more

So I purchased the brand new LG washer and dryer set last month and they said they only had the previous model which if sold, could not be delivered, warrantied or installed. I waited a whole month for the washer/ dryer set to be delivered.... They were an hour and a half late( 12-4pm window) Arrived at 5:30pm so I got to wait for the entire day and after charging me $50 for a track to stack the dryer on top of the washer and another $50 to put the dryer on top of the washer they showed up and didn't bring anything to stack it refuse to put it where it went refused to install it and took the damn thing back. There better not be an $1,800 charge on my Penney's card since they showed up and refused to install the damn thing. That's what I get for not going to Sears like everyone else jackasses!! Nickel and dime me for every little damn thing and then you don't even bring it when you show up and refuse to install the items. The kicker it was when the guy told me it wouldn't fit and I went out there and measured it and everything would fit he just didn't want to drag the stuff off the truck lazy ass!! JCPenney is one of my favorite places to shop. Unfortunately it doesn't have the best reputation among young people (late teen and 20-somethings), so I find that when someone asks where I got my cute top or dress, they are shocked when I let them know it's from JCP. This particular location has a couple of drawbacks. First, the checkout counters are sloooooow and they do not have enough people at the registers. Somehow I always end up behind the customer who is simultaneously returning items, buying more, and making a JCP CC payment via check. To make things worse, this person usually does not speak English. Also, the dressing rooms are HOT. A lot of the time I will buy clothing to try on at home and return the rejects later, all so I can avoid sweating in their dressing rooms. Often times, too, the dressing rooms are in need of attendance and the floors are covered with piles of clothing from lazy customers who did not place their unwanted items back on the racks when leaving the dressing room. Now for the good...! The employees at this location are top notch. They are very helpful and I have even looked to a couple of them for opinions when shopping alone and without a trusted sidekick. JCP has several department store lines of formerly high-end brands who are no longer in their heyday (Cynthia Rowley, Allen B, Buffalo, Nicole, etc.) and the clothing from those lines is always fun and affordable, so you can purchase the latest trends to wear for a couple of seasons without breaking the bank. MNG (Mango) is one of their best selling brands, and they have nice items that could easily be dressed down for a casual setting or dressed up for an office work environment. The JCP house brands are great too (JCPenney, Joe Fresh, Worthington), and they offer a lot of basic staple pieces that you can mix/match into your wardrobe. Think bright solid colors with occasional striped or polka dots, but more toned down patterns than some of the brands mentioned above.The quality isn't the best for the house brands and most of these pieces will not last you a lifetime, but the prices are commensurate. I especially love JCP's exercise apparel. They carry several national brands including NIke, Champion, and Reebok. I personally LOVE Nike fitness gear, but I find the national brands to be very expensive when considering I'm going to spend most of my time sweating in them, so I opt to buy a lot of JCP's house brand Xersion, which has very cute options at a fraction of the price tag. All they are really missing is the coveted swoosh. If it's lingere and housewares you fancy, head upstairs via the escalator. They've got a large area full of appropriately-priced undergarmets, and a Jonathan Adler section for contemporary home furnishings and accessories at a price affordable on nearly every budget. I'm more of a trad girl myself, but I appreciate the JA designs and browse this area regularly. Kids/baby clothing is also on the second floor. For those who are less mobile, you can take the elevator up from the first floor at the west entrance (near the shoes). Finally, the Meyerland JCP has a Sephora inside! They do not carry absolutely everything that the freestanding Sephoras have, but they typically have all the essentials. I pop in here frequently when I am running low on my makeup staples, and it's certainly more convenient than trying to find parking for Sephora in Rice Village, the Galleria, or Memorial City mall... There's no reason to pay full price for anything here as JCP is always having a sale (not including Sephora, which operates independently of JCP). In addition to sale prices, you can combine coupons for additional savings. There are printable coupons online, or you can show them a barcode via your smart phone upon checkout in order to further reduce the price. If you join their rewards program, you get a $10 credit for every $100 spent, which adds up quickly. You can also obtain coupons by completing their customer survey after check out, details of which can be found on your receipt. Even if your size isn't available in store, it may be on the website They offer free shipping to store, or you can ship to home for free with a minimum purchase ($25 or $30, I think). Also, be sure to watch for the "$10 off a purchase of $10 or more" coupons, which they mail out frequently. Even if you don't have anything on your JCP wish list, you can always find something in the $10 range (socks, a couple pairs of underwear, a scarf, etc.) and walk out with a completely free item (save for tax, of course). I do this often when I am trying not to spend money but do want the experience of shopping. If you haven't been here in a while, it's definitely time to come back and give them another opportunity! read more

I ran in here to buy some stockings and knee highs at the last minute. I noticed it was a bit different than the Penny's at Memorial City or in Katy. The line of clothing carried designer names and was more like something you'd find at a Macy's. The clothing racks are a lot less crowded as well. This is probably a good Penny's to go to if you want something nice but don't feel like dealing with the traffic at the more popular shopping centers. read more

I came here tax free weekend, and based on that visit I would give this Penney's Five Stars! The staff had their A game on; they had an awesome sale; and we were able to find lots of new shirts for the hubby. But. Big but. I've been to this Penney's lots and lots of times, and here are some other thoughts. The word is inconsistent, particularly with the jewelry department. Once, a woman there was completely helpful and patient when we were picking out a watch for a friend's graduation: "That one's professional. But that one's fun. That one he could wear on job interviews. Yes, but I could see him wearing that one. Hmmm. OK, let's just take them both." But another time when I came there to get a couple links taken out of a watch, and to get a ring sized -- both from there, and both under warranty -- the process was ridiculous. First off, it took forever to get someone to help us. Then, we were told it was going to take three weeks to get the watch links out (Really?). Then, when we finally picked our stuff up, the ring wasn't the right size, and I have to wear it on my middle finger instead of my ring finger like I wanted. Lame. Also, this is strictly opinion (Isn't it all?), but they have the ugliest selection of female clothing in juniors, petites, and misses. Well, maybe not the ugliest, but not attractive at all. One thing, though, that some women may like is that they have an entire Sephora store in the middle of the place; the also have a salon. I can't comment on either of these, though. I don't get my haircut there, and I don't use Sephora. The Verdict: Great for men's clothing, but as for the rest, not so much. read more

The check out lines are crazy long waits. They often will have just one person per counter, and if anyone else who works there comes by, they don't generally jump on the register to help. However, they do have a Sephora, which has a phenomenal selection of beauty products. And this location is large enough to house all the powerhouse brands like Saint Johns Bay and Maidenform, as well as a great selection of the supporting brands like Allen B. The store is huge, often messy and understaffed, but well stocked. You can knock out shopping for the whole family in one place, if you have time and patience to spare. read more

Derek was a team player a leader who didn't let his cashiers drown, with an impecable positive attitude and customer service.
