JCPenney has had its ups and downs with time, and this JCPenney certainly has some drawbacks. The dressing rooms are hotter than sin, and 80% of the time they're full of clothes and a hot mess. The check out lines are crazy long waits. They often will have just one person per counter, and if anyone else who works there comes by, they don't generally jump on the register to help. However, they do have a Sephora, which has a phenomenal selection of beauty products. And this location is large enough to house all the powerhouse brands like Saint Johns Bay and Maidenform, as well as a great selection of the supporting brands like Allen B. The store is huge, often messy and understaffed, but well stocked. You can knock out shopping for the whole family in one place, if you have time and patience to spare. read more

Wow! I had never been to a JCPenney until I moved into the neighborhood. I love that it is free standing and you can run in for what you need without fighting a mall crowd. I came by the store to return a shirt that unfortunately didn't fit me. The store was super busy and Derek the manager in charge was called on multiple occasions by the cashiers. Derek was a team player a leader who didn't let his cashiers drown, with an impecable positive attitude and customer service. It's hard to come across employees like Derek, let alone managers. read more

I almost lost my life at this store today. Although open during construction, the men's restrooms are closed in the building. None of the signage mentions the location of the men's restrooms. They have portajohns outside. It's raining heavily. Once inside the portajohn, no toilet paper, paper towel or soap is available. Upon leaving, I slip on the very wet staircase landing on the ground. I reentered the store to complain. That was a whole other ordeal. Once the manager finally arrived, he apologized and shared the construction should be done by the end of the week. I went further to share that the temporary men's restrooms aren't ADA compliant. He shrugged and said he would send someone to attend to the restroom and had nothing more to add. They should have just closed the store if they weren't going to staff it adequately and have a better restroom option. They could have done so much more to accommodate their customers. I was dire in need of dress pants so I went to the Meyerland Plaza Mall so I tried out few of them of different brands to see which fits best while about to make decision I saw sign on the rack Stafford Pants on sale for $27.99 not sure whether they will be as good as others well they turn out to be as good happy thinking that I got great bargain boy was I wrong when I was at check out the associate told me the price is $50.00 so explained that price on rack is $27.99 so she called the other associate to check out the price she came back with the price $50.00 so I went back to same rack the sale sign of $27.99 was no longer there I could not believe it how it is possible at that point I was livid wanted to speak with Manager after explaining the situation to the Manager she was very abrupt defensive unapologetic I asked to check their website instead she grabbed my phone to show me the prices I never in my life such a rude experience what the Manager forgot that there are surveillance camera everywhere in the store I am sure they can find out who removed the sign I will never ever shop at that store again word of advice to other shopper take pictures when you find something in that store because they can deny anytime if I have way to rate this store I would rate them 0000000000000000000000000000000 read more

I have always like JCPenney but I went to their salon and I am totally disappointed. I keep going back but this is my last sign that I am taking from that salon person, Debra. I 've had it. I want to get a perm and conditioner. I received the worst perm. She did not do a good job she looks professional. Her work is not what I need for my hair I got it done on 22 July it is now 2 August less than 10 days and my hair looks like you need to re-permed so she needs to give me back $75. On Dec 15th I went to pick up an order I had placed on line. Was already frustrated because all I could gather from the shipping company was the item was shipped to the Meyerland JCPenny and they couldn't give me a date. Well at the store I dealt with the Michael. He could not locate the item after looking for some time. He explained the items being shipped to them were not matching up in their system. Michael was very patient and understanding of my frustrations, especially since this was a Christmas gift. He was working a late shift he took my phone number and told me he would continue to look & call if he located it. He called about 9:00pm that same evening - he had found it!. I truly appreciated this employee's efforts by going above and beyond to help me. Thank you Michael for caring! read more

I just called to make an appointment for the salon and kindly asked if there were any available. The lady who answered the phone asked if I was calling for Brittany. I said no, I'm calling for an appointment. She again asked if I was calling for Brittany. I yelled in the phone, appointment! She said, Brittany doesn't work here any more and said "hold". She proceeded to place me on hold for over 5 minutes. I hung up and tried to call back to speak with someone else. The phone rang and no one answered. Tried again, no answer. I have mixed feelings about Jcpenny. I have a jcpenny credit card that I hardly use... But when I do use it, trust me I charge a lot to it. First, I can find cheap clothing for my son, secondly, they're frame selection for glasses is fantastic. The optechs are super friendly and helpful. Third, this is the only sephora location where I have been greeted and offered assistance and the employees are nice. Lastly, the cashiers are terribly slow and there's normally only 2 while there's about 10 people in line. It's like they don't work with a sense of urgency. Anyways, I know that when I go to jcpennys I have to have tons of patience if I'm going to purchase something. Oh, and they have awesome coupons! A $200 purchase turned into $60 with coupons and in store promotions. Can't beat that! read more

JCP is a potentially strong player in the Houston market, but it really needs to get its merchandising and display better organized, way more presentable, and fairly easy to navigate. I began my retail mgmt career at this store back in the 70s and we had an incredible sales, merchandising, and presentation team. But over the past decade or so it's taken a turn for the worse. Went in a for a shoulder length long bob. What I got barely constitutes a trim...barely. (Ms. Annie?) Stylist moved at a snails pace, barely cut any hair at all in the hour I was there. The majority of the time was spent on a shampoo and blow-dry. okay, that's nice enough, she likes to take her time. But literally each snip of the scissors was excruciatingly slow. And to barely have anything accomplished at the end was frustrating. There were pictures and samples - 6 in fact. Not that they were referenced once during the cut, or that she asked once if the end result was what I asked for. It is not a complicated cut at all. Extremely common, modern day soccer mom type do. So I would think any stylist should be able to do a basic bob, even if the angles aren't spot on. No. She has zero concept of style and definitely has no clue what a basic long bob is. And could care less what you think about the cut either. ZERO customer service here. Pretty much just gave me a barber shop 1/2 in all around trim w/out any styling or shaping whatsoever, even though I brought in very specific pictures for a long bob style. She also reeked of cigarettes, barely acknowledged me when I showed up for the appointment (usually they at least introduce themselves to you), and didn't ask me once about the style I wanted. I had to speak up and tell her and use the pictures - why, I don't know b/c she clearly wasn't going by them one bit. read more

I am very disappointed at the service I received at the salon inside JCPenny Meyerland. I went for eyebrow waxing and not only did she not wax my eyebrows correctly but dropped hot wax on my lashes. She kept trying to remove wax with wax remover and alcohol which burned my eye several times and irritated it. When I asked for the manager, she came and I told her look at my eyebrows and her 1st response was "I don't know anything about eyebrows"! It doesn't take an expert to see all the tiny hairs left behind and how much thinner one was than the other. Then I told her how she dropped hot wax on my lashes and messed them up. The end of my lashes are clumped together and I had just got them done on Sunday at Amazing lashes. Lashes are not cheap...managers response was "well I can't do anything about it. But you still have to pay for your service and come back for a free service once your eyebrows grow back." I was shocked that after they did a crappy job on my eyebrows, messed up my lash extensions and real lashes because everything is stuck together, had a bad irritation that I wasn't able to keep eye open because it stings and felt like something is inside...they asked for a payment of service! She said that was their protocol! So I will have to pay $8 for a wax but who will pay for my damages??? My lashes cost??? My real lashes and extensions are going to come off with wax. Manager showed no empathy. She said since I didn't want to pay there was nothing she can do and that I can leave! It's ridiculous the way I was treated by a so call manager! Horrible costumer service. I stood in line for 15 minutes and I still wasn't close to the front. Another cashier came and helped this other guy who just walked out of the line. The cashier looked my way and I thought he gestured for me to come over to his side so I can be helped. I then got over there and he said that the line was over on the other side. In addition, I have a speaking disfluency and I felt very judged because of it. I asked why the cashier served the other guy and not me, but the cashier gave me weird/rude looks, was very impatient with me, and made me feel very insecure about my stutter. I have never shopped inside the store, I only frequent the salon so this review is only for the JCPenney Salon at Meyerland. I have been going to this salon for over 5 years and have been using the same stylist (Linda Clark) for almost 3 years. Linda is absolutely phenomenal, I can't say enough good things about her...but management at the salon is awful...assuming they have management at all. I truly believe they manage themselves. It is often a challenge to make an appointment without being placed on hold for several minutes. I have even been told before to call the stylist directly for an appointment (huh!, really!). For the last several months, they have been playing a game of musical chairs with the dryers. Stylists claim that certain dryers belong to them and if your stylist seats you at a dryer another stylist has claimed as theirs, they will ask you to move. If you don't have a dryer to move to, they will simply place you in a chair to sit until another dryer opens up. You could be halfway through the drying process and someone will just approach you and tell you they need the dryer and you have to move. It's like the place is being operated by a bunch of children...I have never been to an establishment before where stylist can claim dryers they haven't purchased and can displace guests because they want to use certain dryers for their clients. The level of unprofessionalism is top notch at this location. If management feels this is acceptable, they need be replaced pronto....however, I truly believe the salon is self managed, I can't fathom any manager allowing this to openly occur. This location has such great stylist but sometimes the experience leaves you questioning whether or not to return. read more

My mother was visiting for a few days so we decided to go shopping a bit. It was a big mistake coming to this store. The service was ok but not very welcoming. I asked where the restroom was and when she told us we had passed there a few times so I was very confused until after I realized it was hidden away in a corner behind an exit door. I was shocked to notice there was no men's room at this specific location. When I opened the door one woman leaving the restroom said to me, "come in it's filthy." And without a doubt it was ATROCIOUS. I immediately smelt a very foul odor. I checked every stall and there were 4 in total with 3 available. The first was clogged with feces and the second with toilet paper someone had used to put on the toilet seat. I was even more disgusted when I stepped in pee that was in the hall section not even in the stall! The third was somewhat decent from a distance but the floor was covered in pee and feces. They charged my bank account instead of my JCPenny credit card and now they will not cancel it or switch it over to my card (I called them literally right after making the order). Since when can you not cancel an order you just placed online! You cannot even go back in the order and change the payment method like most civilized one shopping websites. Now, I'm stuck with a large charge for items .... they wu=ill hold my money until I received the items and take them back to the store! read more

JUNE 2012 UPDATE: on May review. Eureka! Despite Customer Service verbally not honoring my request, SOMETHING happened because my JCP bill with zero balance due just came in. Guess what? REFUND OF LATE FEES is on the statement with a $25 credit!!! I am very pleased to discover this and thought it only fair to share! MAY REVIEW:Buyer beware of the new JC Penney. This is actually a national comment versus a local one. However, the Meyerland JCP in Houston is the store that I frequent. My online bill-pay delayed my payment by five days. I had no previous record of late payments. I had paid the balance off in full. Much to my shock, instead of showing a zero balance, the new statement showed a $25.00 late fee. I contacted customer service in attempt to discuss -- or at least lower this late fee since we were discussing five days versus 50. Not: Customer service rep said, "Standard policy." "Cannot assist you." I have recently been very disappointed in the prices and quality under the new JCP. However, I have been shopping here for years and would have continued to do so. Only because I had a bad experience at the Sephora inside the store. I'm getting married in November and wanted a practice run makover. I went on a Sunday afternoon and was told that only two were licensed to do makeovers and only one was there and she was busy so I was told to make an appt with Rosie. I did for 11AM on Wed. I arrived on Wed and Rosie decided she needed to go to lunch and that some other person there could do my makeup. When I said I thought there were only two people here licensed to do it she said oh don't worry this one is really good????!!!!!. This person kept stopping and answering questions of the other employee and of customers and getting the phone. I was on my lunch hour and told her I was going to be late if she didn't stop doing this First off the meter to determine the correct foundation wouldn't work. Then she put eyeliner on my lids that was about 1/4 inch thick and when I said I thought it was too thick, she said, "Well that's because you squinted and I didn't want to poke your eyes out." She then gave me an eyeliner to do my lower lid with and the liner had fallen out and I scratched my eye before realizing it. She got another one and it was also fallen out. She did nothing on my lower lashes, never curled the uppers, nothing on my dark circles and then I then asked if I could set an appt for my wedding day in November and she said we don't have the schedule yet. I was there over an hour and will never return. Worst customer service I have ever had. Not sure what the whole licensing thing was about or why the 45 minute makeover took an hour and 15. Not sure what to do about it now except go somewhere else. I was forced to spend over $50 because that is the deal and what I got was a very unprofessional makeover, a scratched lower lid and no appointment for my wedding day which is probably a good thing because I would be afraid that the person assigned would have to go to lunch and I would get the same ditz that did my makeup this time. Very disappointed in this Sephora. The rest of Penney's is really quite nice. read more
