I am so ashamed that I haven't set foot inside this store before. The things I have been missing! Diane Von Furstenberg pieces nestle cozily with Free People, Nicole Miller, and, one of my personal faves, Matty M in this Rice Village shop. Bags, shoes, more shoes, and tempting jewels are tucked into corners, waiting to help you complete the perfect look. Eveningwear on one side, casual/business on the other. Heaven! The pieces in this store definitely effect a more elegant/stylish/sophisticated vibe than a trendy one. You know, cutting-edge in a good way, in a way that means you might even get a few seasons out of your purchase. Prices seemed to range from $40ish to $200 on most of the casual-ish things, but I didn't venture into the fancier stuff for fear that I'd soon find myself in the dressing room. Hemline also stocks the things that you need to make your clothes behave, like fashion tape and...well, ladies, you know. I almost had to stock up! I will definitely be back here once my budget caves in to my heart's longings. read more

I am a single father of a teenage daughter who I take to Hemline for her dresses for high school dances. The selection and variety of products available for her to chose from is important. However, most meaningful has the stellar, above the call of duty assistance provided to my daughter (and me) by the Rachel (sales associate/manager?). Two years in a row, she has helped me a single dad get something appropriate and meaningful for my daughter. Rachel is personable, honest and generates ideas and options promptly and politely. I could not speak more highly of Rachel... we return to Hemline largely because I know she will be there to take care of our needs on a service level, beyond just the products available. I just recently visited THIS Hemline store, as I do not live on this side of town. I am ONLY a boutique or small business shopper and THRIVE on good customer service. I mean I literally walk out of stores if someone a "salesgirl" isn't going to ask me right away what I need help with--and help me spend my money! I've had TWO GREAT EXPERIENCES! I went and bought a pair of jeans and a sweater with my boyfriend on Wed. , then came back and exchanged my jeans for a smaller size today and bought ANOTHER pair! On Wednesday when I walked in, first of all Rachel kept my "older" boyfriend (who pays) company while I shopped and gave a runway show! Now- any girl in Retail knows- you have to keep the PERSON WHO's PAYING HAPPY!! (Yes, I worked at a high-scale boutique in College Station in Grad school at ATM) So.. when we came back today to exchange , and asked for Rachel, cute girl said she wasn't there-- BUT was busy...and realized who I was, had been there, yada yada.. and started helping me immediately with whoever she was helping. (And yes, it doesn't hurt my feelings to have some sorority girl to roll her eyes at me while she's waiting for a smaller size WILLIE NELSON t-shirt) lol! THIS GIRL was SO AWESOME!! I had jeans that were ONLINE that she (and the other girl working there- SHE WAS GREAT TOO -sorry don't know your name either- pretty blonde). AND this cute blonde helped me find a denim bustier I had been looking for too. I'm going into A Lot of detail here because I KNOW MOST PEOPLE DONT! And most people these days don't CARE ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE. To be honest with you, I don't even know if these girls work off commission. I used to- and I believe people still should! Because there is a hell of a lot to be said about a girl who sits behind a counter all day on her phone while the owner of a store pays her for customers just to walk in and out... and its another damn thing for an employer to have girls that HUSTLE, greet customers at the door with a smile, look happy to be where they are, welcome someone into a beautiful invititing environment, then make a lady of "any age" feel comfortable to be in your store--- also-- listen to an " old cowboy's stories about John Wayne, and know that YOU GIRLS made me feel special because you didn't discriminate against a former teacher with brain damage. Very disappointed in the customer service at this store. Seems like they only greet and help customers who aren't minorities and look like them (white). Wasn't greeted or helped and the other customer who came in after me and wasn't white wasn't greeted either. For the amount of $ they charge for their clothing, I expect the customer service to be equal and 5 star but not what I received. Love this store! Never leave empty handed. The staff are so friendly and you can tell they run the boutique like a well oiled machine. If they don't have something in your size they will get it for you by whatever means necessary. The manager Hawa is a delight and always has a smile on. There's a sales associate named Rachel who also lights up the room and always knows how to style me for any event. Quality pieces at reasonable prices. UPDATE: The owner of Hemline reached out to me in regards to a bad experience I reviewed below, and we worked through the issue with the individual store. I think there was some miscommunication and the store owner was actually very understanding and granted me the store credit. I really appreciated the personal attention they gave. Original: I had an unpleasant experience here. I received a blouse as a birthday gift in a size small, and needed a size medium as it was too tight across my arms. The return policy is 14 days, but I thought surely they would let me get store credit as it was a gift and did not fit (it was 52 days after the purchase date when I finally made it into the store). I understand the return policy is there for a reason, as it is a boutique, but I was still in shock when they denied my request for store credit, and let me walk out of the store with a shirt that did not fit. Another customer in the store even offered to buy it from me, obviously feeling bad and awkward about the situation, and I was too embarrassed to even turn around. It felt like an unkind and cold way to treat a customer, and exceptions can surely be made (a discounted credit would've been appropriate in my opinion). I don't think I'll ever shop here again. read more

I have always LOVED hemline. Adore their clothes and felt so welcomed by the staff (especially at the old location). Unfortunately, recently, I have felt that the staff hasn't been quite as attentive or tried very hard to find a piece for me. I was told I would be reached out to by the staff regarding a rush order I wanted to place on an item. I never heard back from Hemline, so I went directly to the designer website and ordered it there. I would have loved to have given hemline my business, but I felt like they didn't really care about me or wanted to try and help. I'm pretty disappointed in the recent change, and will probably not shop there as often as I have in the past. Makes me really sad!! read more

Hemline is my go to spot in Houston! Yes, it can get pricey, but they have a lot of affordable brands here too. This is not somewhere you go to get your entire wardrobe... instead you go in for unique, well made pieces that compliment whatever you might already have. I first chanced upon this store over the weekend. And to think I live minutes away from the Village! Goodness. I am a very picky shopper, but I was nonetheless very impressed with what I saw at Hemline. I saw a retro-ish dress that reminded me of Missoni-like patterns, and I couldn't stop thinking about it. Damn my budget; I used emergency funds. So worth it. Needless to say, Rice VIllage now has an allure for me to return to. read more

This hemline actually isn't closed..I'm not sure why it says it is. Hemline actually is a really awesome boutique! They have really reasonably priced clothing and from new designers so it's not the same old boring (and incredibly overpriced) clothing you find at saks, neimans, tootises, etc. Also, their jewelry is so cute! This store rocks!!! I called the West Grey location today for some sunglasses that my sister had gotten. They sold the last pair to her, but reserved a pair at the Rice Village location. By the time I drove to the store, my toddler had fallen asleep in the car. No problem!! They walked my purchase out to me and took care of the transaction. I always get fantastic service at hemline, but this was above and beyond. As a mom it is sometimes hard to do everything...they made my day! read more

Pricing varies, some items I would consider to be very reasonable and others I consider overpriced for what they are. But regardless, I continue to go back and consider this to be one of my favorite stores. read more

i visited hemline once in new orleans while i was at tulane, and, being on a college budget, couldn't afford half the stuff. now, as a college graduate, i am frequenting hemline once again...and i *still* can't afford half the stuff. haha. however, i adore browsing here for of-the-moment pieces. you'll find lots of adorable designer duds here, and a few newer brands that are slightly more affordable and equally adorable. i'm a fan and i'll be heading back after payday approaches! read more
