Let me start out this review by saying that I'm not upset, just disappointed. On the evening of 12/04/2022 I visited JC Penny in hopes of getting a few more pairs of jeans. My wife, baby and I showed up 20 minutes before closing (I understand this was not ideal but I work a 9-5 and had to run a few errands before this). I picked out a few pairs of jeans and walked up the counter. I spoke to a nice young man (Caleb) and asked if I was able to use a dressing room. He stated that he would try to get one opened up for me and said it shouldn't be an issue. He radioed in and was promptly shut down by an older female voice. He was very polite in telling me that he couldn't open the dressing rooms. I told him it was not a problem and began putting the jeans back in their respective locations. My wife was standing away from me (within earshot of the counter) and observed an elderly female employee approach the young man. She asked him if someone (me) was "playing games with him" and stated that "they (we) should have been responsible and come earlier". He stated that I was just trying to try on pants. After these comments she gave my wife a "sour" look and proceeded speaking with the man. As I walked past I thanked the young man for his assistance and he apologized to me for me not being allowed to check the sizing. I understand that my timing on visiting the store was not ideal. However, I am a paying customer, I was respectful, I am not sketchy looking, there was at least 15 minutes before closing, and I was understanding. I do not appreciate snide comments from an employee being said behind my back. You have no knowledge of my past and/or my character. 10/10 for the young man. 1/10 for the elderly woman. Treat others how you would want to be treated. This being said, I will still go to JC Penny to purchase products. And to the older woman employee, be better. read more

Terrible service at the returns. I have been going to Penny's since 1989 and have never seen the likes. The regular older woman that works there was great unfortunately yesterday there was a real unprofessional, rude, accusing sales woman with the name badge on that starts with a T. I tried to exchange a couple pairs of pants for a smaller size but did not know there was an expiration date on the receipt so I could not exchange them even with the tags still on them. I did purchase another pair and a T shirt I had grabbed on the way over to returns. I decided to try them on before leaving the store and found out the T shirt was too big so I grabbed another T shirt a size smaller and took the first T shirt back to returns. This weird saleswoman started going through my 2 bags for no reason and then claimed the 2 pants I had brought in were not the same ones in the bag. Crazy acting plus she had no business going through my bags while I was trying to return the first T shirt I had bought. She claimed I was stealing the pants and asked me for my first receipt I had showed earlier that day. She had never given it back to me so I could not find it again!! Thank goodness the other saleswoman remembered those were the same pants I had brought in to return and also confirmed I had the receipt. This woman with her first name that starts with a T had helped me 20 mins before and did not even remember the pants I had brought back and never gave me the receipt back that I had brought with me. I know people make mistakes but this was a terrible situation for this woman trying to accuse someone of stealing their own pants they had brought in earlier to return. Just the fact that I came back to returns instead of heading out the door like a thief would have done should have been enough to show I was not trying to steal. Her attitude does not stand to reason as a real thief would not go to the back of the store to returns with items they want to steal. I had the front check out desk call a manager and she said, Oh sorry, she is new. No, that is no excuse for being a new employee to accuse without any proof of theft. I have been a customer for over 30 years but may not return as I left feeling very under valued as a good customer. read more

I went to the salon to a girl I'd been to several times. This time she was preoccupied and gave me the lousiest hair cut I've ever had. I told her shoulder length and layered and she just chopped it off at the ears. It's been 5 weeks and I still hate it. I do not recommend Priscilla at J.C. Penney salon. I was in there from start to finish 15 minutes. I dont have a lot of money and this was my self care and she totally ruined it for me. read more

This is an entry for the hair salon. I had stylist Nicole and she was the best! I just happened to walk in with no appointment, on a Saturday no less, and she was available right away. I asked for a pixie with longer bangs and she knew just what to do, no problem. We chatted and laughed while she cut, blow dried and styled my hair. She is very skilled, friendly, and adept with scissors. She is also so cute and her makeup was on point (not important, but I thought I would include that). JCPenney - Department Stores Near Me - Redding, California

I am writing about the continuing saga of buying a mattress from J.C. Penney. I strongly recommend you do not purchase a mattress at Penney's. They display them, but once you pay for them they wash their hands of the deal, and then turn the sale over to a flaky delivery company that then becomes your responsibility to monitor and hold them responsible, Penney's will give you no help whatsoever, because it is out of their hands! Very carefully read the one sheet of paper your Penney's salesman will give you with all of the misinformation none of which is in any way tied to your receipt or the mattress you purchased. It essentially transfers your purchase to the delivery company. For the long awaited delivery, the delivery company showed up with one mattress, not the two I paid for. Then they took another extended time to deliver the other half in the dark of the night, with a small man hoisting the mattress, all bent out of shape, on his back. This was not the "white glove delivery" we were promised. The deliver was due between 1-3:00 in the afternoon. Look at the info sheet you will be given at the sale that says they will deliver within a two hour window. This was the most unprofessional, sloppy, horrific purchase I have ever made with the worst delivery service ever encountered, and I paid Penney's 100% in advance. Bottom line Penney's has no business selling mattresses without being responsible for delivery once they have taken your money. Then to add further insult to injury I accidentally found I had "rewards" for my $4,500 purchase, and was never informed and no checkout staff could find the rewords. Took a manager to stumble on it. Despicable behavior, but then likely due to Penney's being sold and so many things falling between the cracks. Suggest you go to a mattress company in town who actually stocks mattresses. read more

I scheduled Nicole for a double process and cut on Saturday and it was by far the best salon experience I've ever had! I usually do my own hair because salons are a little overwhelming for me, but she was so personable that it made my experience an awesome one. In fact, everyone from the front desk to the other hairstylists were amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I had purple in my hair and she was able to lift it right out. I was invited to a very important dinner and function in this town. We generally have these get-togethers once a year. They are Formal Wear and your hair does really need to make it beautiful statement so do your nails and probably your toenails if you can make it to the pedicurist. It's the type of function where you go out shopping months in advance for your outfit because you just know you're going to lose those 10 lb before it happened. I went to JCPenney's because they were one of the first salons open and I did need to get my roots and my hair fixed for this party as a series of parties actually. My hair was ruined it was turned all kinds of colors red black everything I left crying but the good thing was I left crying and was intercepted by Pam. I don't know her last name but I can tell you she is the sweetest woman on this planet she called the manager of the salon she made everything right for me I love my hair it was a huge hit at the to get together. The Stylist who did my hair quit. It wasn't a personal decision it was if I pay you $180 to do my hair please do my hair the way I asked. I can't tell you enough about the good people at JCPenney's hair salon first they'll sit you down and discuss what you like about your hair what you want what your tone of skin is and the manager there is an angel on Earth. So thank you for fixing everything for me at such a stressful time during this crazy pandemic you guys did everything you could and I recommended you to everybody at both parties I've been to so far I'll be sending pictures on the 4th of July at the big party thank you so much to Pam and the manager at this hair salon read more

The remodel looks great! I walk into this JCPenny and feel like I'm not in Redding. They recently added a Sephora too! JCPenny has great sales going on almost every time I walk into the store. They have men's, women's, junior's, and children's clothing. They also have a huge house wares section towards the back of the store (Macy's side) They also have a Levi's section that's pretty neat. I've only experienced great customer service here. The store is clean as well. read more

Horrible service...me being a makeup artist for over 10 years I decided to check out the Sephora inside.... I was really disappointed at the knowledge of the employees in there. They act as though they have no experience and they don't know their products. I thought maybe I just went in on a bad day.... but every time I go there I have the same experience. They treat you like you are going to steal something. I had an experience there where a girl and guy were at the counter whispering and looking at me. When I turned back to look at them they stopped and gave me an uncomfortable smile...I will not be going back I will be shopping else where for my makeup!!!! read more

I like this department store. I've always been a fan of Penny's, even when living in bigger cities. There aren't a lot of options for shopping here in Redding but I find myself coming here a lot for things that I need and I love the hair salon. They have good deals and send me coupons that are useful. read more

I am using an alias name here. The first time I went there was good. The hair color treatment was only $50 (something) dollars. The next time I went in, I was expecting it to be the same price; but when it came time to pay, I was shocked at the whopping $88! I've never paid such a high price in my life, anywhere I have gone. If they are going to raise the price so drastically, they should have notified me before the procedure. Second, the woman who did my hair said they require masks, due to the pandemic, and she said stylist and customer can get the virus, even with a mask, when near each other for fifteen minutes. But the disturbing thing here is that the stylist did not even have the mask over her mouth or nose, she had it over her chin; and the other stylists there didn't seem to care. So, they require that we wear a mask, but don't care that stylist was not wearing a mask properly? Somehow this does not add up. Also, the stylist left hair color on my ear. She was the one who pointed this out when I was paying at the register. When I asked about it, then she went and got a towel to remove it. Had I not inquired about it, she would have just left it there. Also, she wanted to only leave the hair color on my hair for twenty minutes. The normal time is forty-five minutes. I requested the latter. If they are going to color hair, do it right. Don't try to cut corners. read more

We came in on Sunday to return some shirts I ordered on line that were to small for my husband. A women upfront directed us to the back register which was in Home Collections and we met "Rochelle " ( Hope I have spelled your name right ) where she proceeded to get our return checked in and get Wil's shirts reorder plus a discount. This young woman went out of her way to do everything she could to make us happy. WOW, so pleased and surprised. JC Penny's you need to give this young women a pat on the back, she's customer service to the infinity. We will be back to your great store. The JC Penny Salon is filled with girls that just got out of beauty school. I have been going to the Redding JC Penny Salon for about 4 years now. It has progressively gone down hill. All the master stylists got their hours cut and finally left. I paid $120 for a hair cut, style and highlight. I had shorter hair to my shoulders. When I left four hours later my hair was way shorter. I got home and noticed that the back of my hair was all uneven. She had styled it to hide the bad cut. Needless to say I am a licensed hair stylist that doesn't work in a salon anymore due to health reasons. I am still trying to grow out the bad hair cut. It's too short to get it cut again now. I'd have a pixie hair cut : ( I let them know what happened on the phone, but I could tell they really didn't care. So, be WARNED...if you go to the salon you more than likely encounter problems. The girl that did my hair was nice, but talked about her use of methamphetamine, being beat up by her x husband and living in a closet in someone's house. She had three kids and was also talking about how she meets men on the internet to sleep with. Wow! this is not what I expected at all. I have not been back to the salon since this experience. I know that they will eventually go out-of-business anyway. This review is for the portrait studio because it seems that they do not have a Yelp of their own, and the experience was horrendous. It was a complete disaster from the moment we arrived. We (two adults) had an appointment for 1:30 on a weekday. When we got there, one of 3 women behind the counter informed us very bluntly that they were "running slow today" and we would have to wait about 20 minutes. Annoying, but Ok fine. As we began to take a seat, the same lady walked up and said, "since you have to wait, why don't you leave, walk around or something and we will call you back when we're ready." Annoying, and now verging on rude. So we left, first walked around the store, then the whole mall, then took a seat outside waiting for the call. 35 minutes later, still nothing so we figured they forgot to call or something. We went back to the photo studio and as we walked in, the family before us was still waiting, as well set the appointment behind us. Before getting 5 feet in, the only employee visible said "We aren't taking any walk ins right now. We're having technology issues." I told her we weren't a walk in, that we had an appointment at 1:30 (its past 2 now). She then tells us that we are too late for our appointment. I told her no, that her coworker told us to wait 20 minutes because they were behind, and that they would call, but didn't. She walks away into the photo room ( the ONLY photo room. Every other JCP photo studio I've ever been to has had at least 2.) and the photographer come out and explains to us all that their camera is not focusing to take pictures and that it is their ONLY camera...at a PHOTO STUDIO. And she was trying to get ahold of her manager or the other photographers because they were all on break. So they were running behind with a line of families piling up, and sent most of the employees on break instead of having them help with the catch-up? Ridiculous. By 2:30 we are getting ready to give up and leave, when the photographer comes out and finally takes the family ahead of us. They get their pictures done, and at 3, we were finally taken back. The photographer, although friendly, took very few pictures compared to normal, mostly repeats because most would be out of focus. Half way through our session, the manager, other employee, and other photographer show back up, and watch our shoot, which was awkward. When the photographer mentioned the camera issue, the manager did nothing but stare at us and suggest what we already did. After all of this, we were presented with only 10 of the at least 40 pictures we took, and only 3 were decent. We told the photographer right away that we were only getting the digital album (we travelled to get there specifically and would not be making the drive again to pick up prints). Because of this, she did not even try to comp us for our almost 2 hour wait, despite compensating the families before and after us with free prints and sitting fees. I was appalled, and honestly regret even buying the digital album at all because I basically paid $99 plus the sitting fees for 3 pictures. We will never ever return and always warn people not to take pictures here. read more

She just wanted to rush me out of the line and there was only one other person behind me. My daughter was impatient and was obvisouly showing she was tired. If you hate your job, quit! I had the worst customer service I've experienced in a long time here. I'm not usually one to really care about customer service, but the cashier was so rude, I walked out in disbelief. She kept going about her task, (attaching security tags?) wouldn't acknowledge me, and then, when she finally did start to check my stuff (after tagging 2-3 pieces of clothes), she was slamming my products around, barking her cashier questions in annoyance, and acting like a smile would kill her. I wish there would have been some other register near that exit. She obviously hated her life, so I just feel sorry for her. The girl who checked in front of me seemed equally perplexed. Both of us were not-rude, normal customers, and it was a quiet, peaceful time of the day. No one was in line behind me. What gives? There were also two (teenage?) associates gossiping about their manager and complaining about their jobs and coworkers in the changing room. I don't think that's a great place to gossip, but I probably did similar things when I was young. All-in-all something is seriously amiss at JCPenney, but it was an amusing experience... it's like seeing a b movie, you get to appreciate the good movies all the better. read more
