This week we had an issue with one of our heaters, and Dan and Allie came with a $300 repair kit and a $1,600 replacement water heater. Dan quickly saw that the gas valve replacement kit would solve the issue and immediately went that route. Eight years ago Dan revealed the "secrets" of making a good water heater last a good long time: 1. Keep the temperature setting constant, even if leaving the house for an extended period. This keeps the water tank from contracting and expanding due to changes in water temps. 2. Check the anode yearly and change when necessary. Owner manuals tell how and why. 3. Run household water softener systems at the lowest possible setting. Such systems are the enemy of water heaters. OWH's prices are below others I have checked. Water heaters are very expensive in Utah now because of our rules requiring ultra-low NOX heaters to be used in accordance with California regulations (yes, California). Ultra-low NOX heaters are ultra-expensive.

The water softener they put in is over 15 years old now and never had a problem. We were so happy with the water softener we've had them do some other plumbing work such as changing toilets, installing a whole house reverse osmosis system and adding hose bibs. Same results, excellent work with no issues. They took particular care to make sure they cleaned up after themselves. Have recommended them to over a dozen other people and every one raves about them. Not one complaint which is very unusual for a plumber. Would give Sharp Water Solutions six stars if we could.

Fast forward to June of 2022 it started leaking again and was unnoticed. As a result we had mold under our carpet, walls and baseboards and had to rip it all out. Tyler originally came last week and gave me an estimate on options, describing the pros and cons of each. He was very knowledgeable and I really felt like he was honest and forthright. We ended up with two toilets, two grab bars, and repairing a broken water controller in the tub. I though it just needed to be screwed back on and asked for help with that, but it turned out a part was broken (my dad had fallen and hit it), so Tyler gave me instructions and I ran to Home Depot while they were working on the toilets. Tyler ran into a snag with one of the toilets. We've been aware from right after moving in that the builders here cut a lot of corners, and they also did that with the toilet installment. So Tyler had to work around the weird jerry-rigging done by the lousy builders, resulting in extra work and extra time. He explained the issue and showed me how he was dealing with it. In the meantime, Skyler worked on the broken water controller, discovering more damage than expected. They didn't even charge me for that word, saying since it didn't take them any more time, since Skyler worked on it while Tyler took care of the weird toilet issues. They consulted with me all along the way about how and where to install the grab bars, checking to make sure they were absolutely solid, having me look over everything and give my ok. Everything looks great. I really appreciate the professionalism and expertise of these men. Our home is a safer place, and I am so thankful. They were able to come do the job quickly (two days after I accepted the estimate). These guys will have my business in the future.

This spigot just so happens to be the only one available for my swamp cooler to connect to. Being without any sort of AC for any period of time during the Utah summer is a bad time, so I am glad Hot and Soft were able to finish this up quick.
