This is more of a follow-up post about David Cobian and his team at JDC Energy. I hired David over two years ago to do a full solar install at my home. The solar install still works great. I haven't had an energy bill over $10 since. My only regret is not going solar sooner. So here is the part about JDC Energy. When I hired David and his crew in 2016 he was not the cheapest price. But his price was competitive. But I made my choice to use him because he uses all his own people to do the installation - there isn't a sub for this and a sub for that. Really good quality control on who he has working for him. And they didn't steer me to a preferred product. Single inverter, micro inverter, power optimizer? It was all the same to them. They let me take the lead. I also appreciated that they were cool with me being up on the roof with them. I am a big DIY'er and they had no problem with me inspecting things, taking pictures, and asking questions. Nothing to hide. Very patient guys. All about quality. So with the heavy rain that occurred a couple weeks ago, I discovered I had a roof leak. Ugh. Sigh. And it didn't appear to have anything to do with where the solar was installed. (Different area of the roof, different slope). I called them up at 4pm and talked with Justin (installation lead) and told him flat out, I was pretty sure it had nothing to do with the panels - but that I had learned to trust these guys from their solar install and thought maybe they could take a look. He was at my house the next morning at 9am. Justin was on my roof for about an hour and a half (making sure the solar had nothing to do with the leak and figuring out "what" the problem had been). With another day or rain rolling in a few hours later, Justin made a couple quick fixes - new flashings on a valley area of the roof where the old flashing appeared to have failed, etc. (with before and after photos he emailed to me). JDC did all of this FOR FREE. What had been a good trickle of water coming through my ceiling almost stopped completely. A gallon of accumulation overnight became about a 1/2 shot glass worth of water accumulation out of the sheet-rock hole I had cut in my ceiling. Their quick fix stopped the rain so effectively, I could not tell if remaining (very, very slow accumulation) drip was residual water that made it under/through the felt and will be looking to the next storm to know for sure whether they bought me enough time to fix it myself this summer (when I can take time from work and DIY) - versus having to pay a roofer during the rain season. To me, that is pretty awesome customer service. And they really helped me in a jam (ever call a roofer for a leak when it is raining? Not cheap. Long wait.) So I just wanted to post about my experience - years after they had finished the job for which I hired them. Having guys work on your house can be difficult if you do not know them before hand. Who to trust? Who will do quality work at a fair price? I found that David, Justin, and the folks at JDC are the sorts of guys you can trust. Just my two cents. read more

I had been considering installing a solar panel system to aid in the reduction of electricity and thus reducing my So Cal Edison Bill. My neighbor recently had solar panels installed in his home so I asked him who had done the work. He referred me to David Cobian, of JDC Energy Solutions. Just after the 4th of July, I contacted David and we made an appointment for a consultation. He asked that I provide a copy of my electric bill prior to arrival so he could determine what kind of system was required for my house and my usage. David arrived on time on the given date and we sat and discussed my power needs, pricing, procedure and installation. I was impressed with the presentation. Straight facts, no pressure, suggestions and honest answers to my questions. After he was done I asked him for 24 hours to think it over. The next day I called David and said it was a go. Plans were drawn up and they pulled the permits with the City and within a couple of weeks I had people on the roof. His installation crew was incredible! In 113 degree heat they were on the roof installing the rails and brackets and the next day installing the solar panels themselves and also replacing any roof tiles accidently damaged during installation. His electrician was also the consummate professional working in 110 degree heat. Both the installers and electricians always seemed eager to teach me about Solar and always answered my questions. The bottom line is they did a great job and I have no complaints. On the test run, the system worked well and even with the AC on, I saw the meter going backwards. I highly recommend JDC Energy Solutions to anyone considering Solar Panel installation. Their pricing is reasonable, the workmanship is professional and I am 100% satisfied. JDC Energy did an excellent job moving my existing solar panels to the roof of the new addition of the house. David was very helpful in coming up with a plan to reorganize the panels to get maximum production in the new location. In spite of some poor planning on part of the HVAC contractor, who made the furnace vent go up through the roof where a panel was supposed to be placed, David figured out a way to move the panels around to adjust all 30 of them on there without much loss in production. I also had the pleasure of working with Justin who did a lot of the installation work, and was very patient to adjust all the wiring running from the solar panels to the meter according to my requirements. I wholeheartedly recommend JDC to anyone who would like to install a solar panel system or move an existing one. Thank you to JDC Energy solutions for doing an amazing and professional work. Look forward to working with JDC again if I ever add more panels. Will definitely recommend friends and family to use them. read more

I had a whole house fan and solar panels installed. The fan was a simple one day affair, but they performed the task quickly and it ended looking and working great. It's to be expected, but they cleaned up after themselves as well. The solar was a much longer process, but the representative at JDC helped me through the whole thing; providing documents to sign when needed and keeping abreast of what would be happening next and when it would occur. The actual installation was performed exactly as quoted, with the basic installation only taking a day (not including clean up/touch up). I was a bit concerned after the first day since it was a bit messy, but they came back and cleaned it up and now it really looks like a part of my house. I would definitely hire them again. read more

Just wanted to thank JDC for doing such a great job with installing. my solar panels and whole house fan. I had the pleasure of working with Justin from the time i had to schedule the work. I work from home and have a baby and it was really important to me that they work around my schedule for the installations. They were very flexible and allowed me to reschedule our appointments on numerous occasions. They were very respectful of my baby's nap schedule and also provided my husband with regular updates as to the progress of their work. I get many compliments for my panels from neighbors and get told they blend in well w my roof. The fan works fantastic too. My solar system that I had installed in 2013 mysteriously stopped working....all 28 panels. The solar installer had gone out of business, so I did not know who to call. I received a recommendation on JDC Energy. I called them and spoke to David. David was great and had Al, one of his techs come out the next day. Al identified the problem right away. Within two days, my solar system was back up and running and the cost was very reasonable. I would highly recommend JDC Energy for all of your electrical needs. read more

Update to my review of January 16, 2019. With rain stopped and sunny days showing a fair and accurate Enphase Reading of all panels output, I can say the replacement panels are functioning very well. Sorry I waited so long to initiate process but I am very happy with the work done and glad the sub-performing panels are gone. I expect now that my energy bill will now go back into the credit side instead of payment due SCE. Definitely happy with JDC. read more

I got a 240V 50A new circuit and NEMA 14-50 outlet installed in the garage for level 2 EV charging. JDC came to site survey, pull permit and finished up the project nicely and neatly in a timely fashion. I was kept informed along all steps. From David, Justin, AL and Shannon, all make you feel warm and respected. The cost is reasonable, the work quality is professional grade.
