I am writing this review because I feel other homeowners need to know about my experience before trusting this company with one of the most important parts of their home. Home Genius completely replaced my roof in April 2025. I trusted this company, paid them to do the job, and expected them to stand behind their work and warranty. Unfortunately, that trust has been seriously damaged. It has barely been over a year, and I now have an issue with my roof. I contacted Home Genius on July 27, 2026 to report the damage and request that someone come out and inspect it. Since then, it has been an absolute nightmare. I have made multiple calls and repeated follow-ups, only to be sent around in circles trying to get someone to actually address the problem. I should NOT have to beg a company to inspect a roof that THEY replaced just over a year ago. Today is August 27, 2026, and I am STILL waiting for someone to have the basic decency to call me back and properly follow up on my complaint. This is completely unacceptable. What makes this experience even more infuriating is how different the customer service was when they wanted my business. They were quick to contact me, quick to sell me a new roof, and quick to get the contract signed. But once there is a problem and I need them to stand behind their work, suddenly getting a response becomes nearly impossible. That is not what I consider customer service. That is not what I consider standing behind your work. I am not asking them to blindly approve a warranty claim. I am asking for something extremely basic: RESPOND TO YOUR CUSTOMER, SEND SOMEONE TO INSPECT THE ROOF, AND ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. If the company believes the damage is not covered under the warranty, then have the professionalism to inspect it and explain that decision. Ignoring the customer is NOT an acceptable way to handle a warranty concern. A company should be judged not only by how well it sells its services, but by how it treats customers AFTER it has received their money. In Spring 2023, I started performing market research on various roofing companies in the DC Metropolitan area. This was a very time-consuming endeavor for which I ultimately received roughly nine (9) quotes/bids and determined four (4) or the nine (9) to be competitive and capable of meeting our specifications. Subsequently, you guessed, Capitol Improvement was awarded the project and met the requirements with no delays, no games and no hidden fees or added cost. How it started... From the submission of the quote, the Owner, Pat was responsive and available to answer all my questions. He was transparent from the start and explained in detail the cost, warranties and even walked me through the comparison of the different material options to help me gain an understanding of the lifecycle and quality of the different roofing systems. It is with true confidence, I can say that Pat has built his family owned business on the core principles of customer service, strong business ethics, honesty and fairness. These attributes are becoming obsolete in today's market; however, Pat has managed to instill in his two (2) sons Austin and Lance these principles. Which brings me to the initial site visit with the Project Coordinator, Lance, who truly exemplifies professionalism, expertise and most importantly the skill sets to build a trusting relationship with the customer. I never felt pressured to move forward and every question was met with an answer I could trust and the rationale or documentation to support the response. If ever there was something that Lance could not provide a response or was outside of his expertise; he would immediately contact the subject matter expert and/or research the matter and provide a clear and concise response. During the course of our interaction, I never felt doubtful or apprehensive with the information provided or work being performed. Lance took the time to review the details of the proposal and warranties; in addition to negotiating the terms or the contract he provided copies of all certifications, business licenses, certification of liability insurance and all other pertinent documents. Honestly, I did not have to ask for any required documentation and everything was timely and legitimate. Pat's words held true, that Capitol Improvement operates with integrity and commitment partnering with their customers to get the job done. This was also reflected in my interaction with the Install Manager, Seth and Site Manager, Sam. From day one (1) of the staging and prep for install, which started in October 2023, they literally walked me through the project step-by-step. From assessing the roof original state, taking photographs for record to conducting the initial inspection of the roof to explain the demolition. There was no stone left unturned. As with any project, as issues or concerns were discovered after removing several layers of the original material, which could not have been foreknown, the Site Manger would immediately stop work, notify the Install Manager and myself and ensure all changes/modification were approved prior to moving forward. If impacts resulted in additional cost they were discussed in detail. In one case Pat was willing to share in the cost and find a feasible and cost-effective solution. The entire process was well documented and communication was clear. The job was completed in the time frame estimated and every employee and team member were professional, polite and each day made sure no trash or debris was left on-site. Every team was considerate of the noise-level and was here to provide quality service. Seth and Sam, are definitely a representation of the employees who strive to get the job right, take pride in their craftmanship and aim to please. As with all things in life... we must leave room for the unexpected and during the project there was an unexpected mishap that occurred for which was immediately remedied by the Capitol Improvement Team. They took ownership and accountability and made sure it was no additional expense or stress on my end. How they addressed the matter was another demonstration of the integrity of the Capitol Improvement. He listened to me, asked me to send over pictures and he wld call me back in a few days. Well he called me back as promised with two solutions that did not involve me replacing all or most of the siding for a money grab. He said 1st he wanted to come and pick up the piece and try to color match it and option #1 was to use the color matched piece and then repair or #2: take a piece of siding from another place on the house and put the new "color matched" piece in its place. That way the color matched piece wldnt stand out. Option 2 and thank you! Well within two days and no fuss to me-it was repaired and my home no longer looks negelected.
