I had a very positive appointment with Dr Gordon and I have to share it! Came in for some minor cosmetic procedure and she had to numb the area where the procedure was to be performed. I am not the best patient when it comes to needles and she was so gentle I never felt the needle go in! She was talkative throughout the procedure. I never felt her gruffness as others had described. All in all, I was in and out in under 30 minutes. She knows what she is doing. While my procedure was simple, out of all the dermatologists I had been to, she was the quickest and most painless of them all. I had a bad allergy attack and red bumps all over my arms. It was itchy and unbearable. Called Dr. Gordon's office since it was near by and they were able to fit me in same day. The receptionist was nice and there was only a 5 minute wait. Dr. Gordon is not the friendly type but she recognized what was wrong right away and wrote me a prescription. I got the medication and in an hour, the itching was relieved. The bumps and redness disappeared in 2 days. Since my husband has eczema and discoloration on his leg, I made an appointment for him as well. She wrote a prescription for 2 different creams am & pm. A lifetime of discoloration disappeared in a month. She may not be the friendliest person but she really knows her stuff. I'm pleased to see that some of those who posted Yelp reviews have had a positive experience of Dr. Gordon. I wish my mother and I could say the same. I'm sure Dr. Gordon has strengths as a dermatologist. Social skills, apparently, is not one of them. My mother went in last week to have a growth removed from her back. While there, the good doctor suggested that my mother allow her to freeze off something she saw on my mother's left jaw. In the time which has passed since that day, the area the doctor froze became inflamed and painful. My mother called the office this morning and was told to come in. We checked-in with the receptionist upon our arrival. After sitting for an hour in the waiting room, during which time the receptionist never spoke to us nor provided updates as to when we would be seen, the doctor finally invited my mother and me to come in. Dr. Gorman acknowledged that the area she had treated on my mother's jaw was, in fact, infected. So, too, was the area where she had removed the growth on my mother's back. She accepted no responsibility for this condition, stating only that my mother must have allowed bacteria to get into the open wounds. She wrote up a list of prescriptions and handed it to me. I immediately handed it to my mother. I had spoken to Dr. Gorman previously about speaking and interacting directly with my mother, who, despite her age, is quite competent and able to communicate effectively with her physicians. Seeing me hand the prescription to my mother, Dr. Gorman acknowledged that we had discussed this issue previously. As we were leaving, my mother expressed her displeasure to Dr. Gordon about how long we had to wait to be seen. Rather than a simple apology, the doctor walked away and shot back a defensive remark that she had been busy and that she's just human. Certainly, a medical professional could have, and should have handled the criticism in a more civil, compassionate way. I was disappointed, and a bit surprised, by our experience with Dr. Gordon this morning. Then, when I returned home, I read the multiple Yelp reviews by clients who expressed similar experiences and concerns. Perhaps Dr. Gordon needs to be reminded that while it's nice to be important, it's more important to be nice. read more

I went to see Dr. Gordon this week based on the first 2 five-star reviews only. Good: - Easy to get an appointment - No attempts to hawk her line of products displayed in a can't-miss-it way in every room Bad: - Those forms you spend time completing about your medical history, medications, etc.? Useless. She didn't look at them, so it didn't occur to her until I mentioned it that my old prescription may be aggravating my rash. I would've continued using it. - Impatient when asked to name what she was prescribing and its side effects. - I saw her for 2 things: a facial rash and getting a new acne Rx. I'm quick. No hemming n hawing n complaining. Still, the appointment ended abruptly midway: Me: I'd like to ask you about-- Dr. G: Well! Let's talk about this in your follow up appointment! Me: It's really quick. I just need to ask you 2 quick questions. Dr. G: (heading for the door) You should make another apointment when you leave. Let's wait to talk about this when you come back. Okay? Alright. First visit: I left Dr. Gordon's office crying. I was in physical pain and felt emotionally horrible. Unless you just want a dermatologist to help you with cosmetic concerns like wrinkles, do NOT go to this doctor. Second visit: I had to return to get the result of the biopsy. This visit went much better, but I still wouldn't recommend this doctor. Revised lists: Good: - easy to make an appointment - very friendly staff Neutral: - variable wait time: once short, once long - considers alternate explanations for a problem - sometimes seems impatient Bad: - weak bedside manner - little consideration of patient's medical history - shows no concern for patient physical privacy (leaving doors open at inappropriate times) - shows no empathy for patient pain (those numbing needles hurt!) - doesn't ask questions about the patient's theory as to causes or other co-occuring problems - doesn't even clean the wound area before attempting treatment! - no follow-up care instructions other than "make an appointment in two weeks" The first time: one of the worst medical experiences I've ever had. I came here last week to see her about some skin concerns I'm having. I was expecting a really good experience from the reviews but was VERY dissapointed. My visit: Gordon: Hi, how are you today? Me: Great, thanks! Gordon: What are you here for today? Me: I have these concerns with my skin....etc. Gordon: Okay, sit up here and let's have a look. Me: Okay. I sit up on the table and Gordon shines the light on my face. TWO SECONDS LATER Gorden: Okay, here's a prescription for you. Put this on every other day. See you in a month. Umm...that's it? I hate it when doctors pull out their prescription pads before even carefully examining the problem. It's like they're saying, "Oh yeah, seen that before. Standard. Here's your medication. Get out." I had to specifically ask her if it was going to cause any irritation, etc... But wait, it gets better. They gave me a sample of the medication to use before I had the prescription filled. I put it on at night like they said. Next day, I'm fine, don't see any difference. Day after, my face is PEELING!! Eww!!! I guess the medication is just really harsh or something but it was making my skin peel all over. This continued for two days and if I hadn't drenched my face in moisturizer overnight, it would probably still be peeling. Isn't that just great. Anyway, I'm definitely not going back. Dr. Gordon is one of the worst doctor's I've ever had. Terrible bedside manner just wants to push her products. I recently had to get a prescription renewed (something that you pretty much have to use the rest of your life if it works...and it does for me). When I spoke to her about the generic version of the drug, she acted as if she didn't really know what I was talking about...but all of a sudden had a lot of knowledge about the generic drug. She wouldn't write a real prescription for the "generic" version of the drug which just had to be split into fours since the dosage is higher than the brand name drug I needed. Heck, I wouldn't be so upset if I wasn't charged for the visit, but I was...$185!!!! I told them I don't understand why she had to check up on me if all I needed was a prescription refill. Dr. Gordon carries tons of drugs, including the drug I use, and from the other reviews, I get the impression she will do ANYTHING to push her stuff first. Stay away. read more

The waiting room was full of products that she sells (obagi and more), so I was afraid that I was going to get suckered into buying stuff from her. Dr. Gordon is the BEST DERM I have visited since I have had a continuous skin problem. Wow- I am shocked at the last review! I have had a great experience at Dr. Gordons office. I had an issue with my skin and had seen a couple of other dermatologists and they were unable to figure out what I had. She painlessly biopsied my skin and was able to come up with a diagnosis and treatment. I was referred by a friend who had undergone some cosmetic treatments (botox) and was extremely pleased with the results. She takes pride in her office as she has state of the art technology including multiple lasers. I have always found her to be friendly and accommodating. She will also add in a small procedure that insurance will cover within the visits. Don't recommend her at all. She talked to me from far a way (standing by the room's door) and didn't even inspect the problematic area. How can a dermatologist not even inspect your skin and immediately write a prescription for a medicine. I went here a few years back and had the worst experience ever. I went to have removal of a faint, pink birthmark on the side of my face. I was told that it would take a few visits with laser treatment in order for my birthmark (which resembles a blemish) to be completely removed. The first two visits were fine. However, on the third visit, I was in a lot of pain after I left the office. I was crying. A few hours later, the one inch x one inch area that they lasered was pussing all over. It was disgusting. After a week or so of pussing and some bleeding, a very thick scab formed over the inch by inch area. The scab remained on the side of my face for over a month. When it finally came off (only because I pulled my shirt over my head and it ripped off), I returned to the office (I hadn't been able to go in before because I was located about two hours away). Instead of the faint blemish-like mark that I originally had on my cheek, it was now redder than red and painful to the touch. I was told that "the laser didn't work" and that I would need to go to another dermatologist because their laser wouldn't fix what they had done. In consultation with the other dermatologist, he told me that it would take approximately $300/ each treatment and about 6 to 7 treatments to completely remove the redness. I went in for a few treatments, but I can't really afford to fix it. The area that they lasered on the side of my face is still redder than it was originally, It feels different than the rest of my skin - like scar tissue. And it's sensitive to cold and heat. So to sum it up: After Dr. Gordon made a mistake and burned the side of my face, she sent me away from the office with only the name of a more expensive dermatologist. Whereas before, my birthmark was so faint that no one even commented on it, now I get comments all the time. People think I burned my face with a curling iron; they think I have lipstick on the side of my cheek; one girl said to me "you have a stain on your face." I just came out from Dr. Gordon's office. Horrible feeling. She is arrogant, does not care about her patient. This is my 2nd visit. I did not realize I've visited her many years ago, until I step into the office. I wanted leave when I realized it, but it was a bit late. The 1st time was many many years ago. It was not pleasant either. She is more into winkles and cosmetic issue. Her office if full of cosmetic products. Even the co-pay receipt is written as sales receipt. If you have cosmetic issues, maybe she can sell you some products. For more serious skin disease, she is not the choice at all. I don't think she should be called dermatologist. (old review) I visited Dr. Gordon to ask her about preventative measures as I had just turned 30. I didn't get the answers that I was looking for, and as I went to wash my makeup off, the Dr. had moved on to the next room, so I had to wait again. I'm at high risk for melanoma. I have to get my skin checked out once or twice a year. I recently moved to the area and needed a new dermatologist. I was drawn to Dr. Gordon because I'm more comfortable with a female doctor, and she had glowing reviews on the search site I was using. I called her office, and they were able to schedule an appointment within 2 days! I was surprised and very happy. My last dermatologist was always fully booked for months at a time. That can be stressful when you're worried about a life-threatening condition. Then I saw Dr. Gordon's awful yelp reviews. Cue freak out. I almost cancelled my appointment, but I realized most of the reviews were old. Many more recent good reviews were hidden under "not currently recommended" for some reason. I decided to stick it out and form my own impression. She was great! I came back for a few follow-up appointments to have some procedures done. Dr. Gordon talked me through everything and made me feel very comfortable. Her assistant was awesome at helping me through a dizzy spell (it wasn't the doctor's fault, I'm just squeamish). She had me recline in the chair and brought me water. She told me that it was very common reaction and that I shouldn't be embarrassed. I felt fine after a few minutes, and I really appreciated that she was so nice to me. I've never had a dermatologist listen to me so well. Past dermatologists have caused me a lot of stress and pain, but Dr. Gordon is different. I will certainly be coming back. read more

When I first visited her office, I had severe acne and with Dr. Gordon's help have finally experienced clear and beautiful skin for the last 5 years. I completely agree that with the comment from t.c.w. The receptionist was completely rude every time i came in for an appointment. (She should look into some skin care considering she works for a dermatologist. She had terrible skin! Not a good selling point for Dr.Gordons work) Dr.Gordon was nice, but was very fast and when she injected me with cortisone shots for my acne cysts she was very ruff. I have never been scared of needles or flinched when getting cortisone shots in the past, but i found myself holding on to the chair. So i decided to go to another derm and boy what a difference. I did not flinch at all!! I ask her about atrophy in regards to my cysts ( when your skin gets a divot) and she informed me that your chances of getting atrophy are alot higher if you get more then 1 cortisone shot in the same cyst in less than a month. I went in to Dr.Gordon 3 times in one month to get the same cysts shot and she never informed me of the high risk of atrophy. So, overall, she was a nice lady, but not a good dermatologist. If she was, she would have never injected me in the same cysts more than once a month. read more

My husband and I have been going to Dr. Gordon for over eight years! We have had lots of skin issues, sun damage, etc. and she has taken amazing care of both of us. Overall I strongly recommend Dr. Gordon. I started going to her when at the age of 30 developed really bad acne. It was horrible and really depressed me. I went to see her for the 1st time and I asked her if she can honesty fix this. She told me with confidence that she has NEVER had a case of acne she has not been able to fix. PERFECT! She was right! It was gone within 6 months. The pro's: - You can get an appointment instantly, unlike many derm's. - You tell her your insurance/financial situation and works with you. I get samples all of the time...big bonus! -She is confident and tells you exactly what to expect and what to do with meds. The con's - Yes, she is quick. You MUST take notes and be prepared before you visit her. Have your questions/concerns on hand. No time for idol chit chat. - Sometimes there is a wait. I think the longest I waited in a exam room was 20 minutes for her. - When I had a bioposy the came back positive for skin cancer, her staff left me an oh hum voice mail saying " it is positive for skin cancer, have a nice day" HUH??!!! Wasted 1 hr and still didn't see the doctor! I made an appt through ZocDoc 4 days in advance and got an email saying my appointment was at 9:30 AM on a Wednesday. I showed up 15 mins early for my appointment at 9:15 AM as suggested and they didn't have my appt in their system and said the doctor doesn't even come in on Wednesdays until 10 AM. With no apology, they stated if I waited until 10 AM, the doctor would arrive and they would slide me in first. Another patient showed up for a 10 AM appt and I noticed they didn't give the patient a heads up that they had just been bumped. Then around 10:05 I finally get taken back to a room and am asked to change into a robe. I change into a robe and wait there until 10:20. I then changed back into my clothes and went to the front to find out that the doctor still wasn't even on the premises. So I left after being there for an hour with no sign of a doctor. It is hard enough for me to schedule doctor's appointments with work and I made arrangements in my week to make this happen. This was a completely disrespectful waste of my time. read more

I saw Dr. Gordon in Feb 2007. Was extremely disappointed with my appointment. First off, she didn't see me until 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment, but for those 15 minutes she was busy chatting away with her receptionists about their Valentines Day plans. Then, when she did actually see me, she didn't probe much into my skin condition - I felt that I had to tell her as much detail as I could give as otherwise she wouldn't ask at all. Then, she prescribed me products that actually caused my skin condition to worsen greatly. The kicker of it all, was that she gave me wrong advice - she told me that since my skin was so sensitive, that I should apply the medication while my skin was still wet from cleansing. I later looked up this information and asked another dermatologist - the overwhelming response on this was that her advice was the opposite of what she should have advised. I went to see Dr. Gordon for a scalp problem and I have experienced the most rushed appointment ever! Between greetings (which took less than 5 secs and sounded "forced") and the end of the appointment, I counted 3 mins. Seriously! She doesn't look at any of your history, or even sometimes look at you. In addition to that, she does NOT listen to you. I tried 3 times to talk and she would keep going and going and going. I left the place with the sense that she didn't care at all about my problem and my concerns/questions. I will never go back again, and will tell anybody I can to never visit her. read more

I'm not sure how I even found her in the first place but I'm so glad I did! I've tried other derms that are highly rated on Yelp (only because sometimes I'd prefer a doctor closer to where I work) but I've yet to find anyone as effective and competent as Dr. Gordon. Dr. Gordon has been taking care of my husband and myself for 17 years now. She also takes care of our 13-year old and 17-year old (teenage acne and wart on foot - facial skin looks great now and wart is gone). She seems to have seen everything and shares her knowledge in a respectful manner. She has always given us options and explained the ramifications clearly. Excellent and sensitive doctor! We have moved 30 minutes away and still travel to see her rather than find someone local - this is an hour round trip drive for us now. I think the reviews are a little skewed because you either hear about really bad or really good experiences. Let me set the record straight. Like most doctor's not everything can be cured within the first visit. I visited Dr. Gordon for a skin rash AND to pursue anti-aging treatment. She treated me for both, first with the cream that everyone else complains about which did make my skin peel and puff up like a balloon, but that was because I failed to inform her that I was allergic and my skin is supersensitive. Then I tried the Obagi Vitamin C to fade sun spots and discoloration. Many people warned me against it, but I don't see how Vitamin C can be that bad, and frankly I do trust a Board Certified Dermatologist with a Master's and PhD from Stanford. The only side effect of the Vitamin C and Obagi sunscreen was that my face became really dry since it was too sensitive to use any other moisturizer than Cerave. So I went back a third time seeking a good moisturizer against my husband's will and I have to say I AM SO IMPRESSED WITH THE RESULTS. Dr. Gordon thought my skin looked great -- even, no spots, etc. and said if I felt try to try a AHA line, which has all natural, botanical ingredients like algae. And it worked like magic! Taking into consideration the reaction I had the first time to the acne creme, her staff gave me several samples to try out. After applying the surge moisture creme, my skin became supple and as soft as baby skin! So don't give up! Keep trying until you find the right product. Just like with make-up you have try something until it feels good, same goes here. I highly recommend Dr. Gordon for patient people willing to experiment a little to find the best product for them.Just ask for samples before buying anything and use one product at a time. Dr. Gordon suggests using one product at a time for a while to make sure you don't get a reaction before trying something else. that's why it requires patience and multiple visits. read more

I saw Dr. Gordon last week for cosmetic enhancements and she was spectacular. I had Restylane put in my lips and was extremely happy with the results. I also had the IPL done and the results were fantastic. Her staff is knowledgable, professional and courteous. I would recommend her highly.
