wonderful private hosting/events! such a cute space and great food!
    Jen F.

I've been to Jean Jacques for some private parties and it's always been a great experience. They have a private room that is always very well decorated and their staff are awesome! Their quiche is probably my favorite dish, the flavors are phenomenal. On the dessert side, their chocolate mousse cake is what I dream about often. It is delightfully airy and also gluten free! They also have a more casual dining area with tables where you order at the counter. The only downside is the parking lot fills up quickly so you often need to find street parking.

    Ham and Brie panini

Recently came here after work and it was a nice spot to end the day. I'm a big fan of a breakfast all day menu/cooking breakfast for dinner at home so this spot was right up my alley. While you order at the counter here there is plenty of seating if you want to dine in and they will bring your meal to you. We ordered the Florentine omelette and the ham and Brie panini. Both great choices and we paired them with coffee. Definitely would come back!

    Private room

We recently had my Mom's 100th birthday in their private room. The room was beautifully decorated, the food was excellent. Everyone was very happy with the buffet. The service was amazing. The staff was extremely helpful, they always came around to make sure they removed the plates after you finished. They also made sure everything was OK. I would 100 percent recommend this place for your next event.

Half of a mushroom quiche and a beautiful matcha latte

I forgot how lovely this place is. My girlfriend and I split a mushroom quiche (oh they are so decadent!) And we each got a latte (so pretty). The mood is super casual and the seating isn't cramped. Note to self: Come more often!

    Lemon Meringue
    Christina Z.

After only getting a half dessert after dinner, we walked over to JJ to attempt a dessert redemption round...failed to meet expectations. 5/5 Service and Ambiance 2/5 Lemon meringue: too much overly sweetened meringue, barely any lemon curd (I was literally digging and wading through meringue looking for lemon), too thick of a tart crust to curd ratio for my preference (dry side). Will try a chocolate or cake based dessert next time to see if it's any better. Kids loved the heart shaped sugar cookies, though. Also want to see if this place has good mocha frappes to replace my old go-to option. Will give it a second chance next time. Want to like it because it's cute and even has an events venue on site.

    The real thing

Their Croque monsieur Sandwich is just a simple piece of bread, with ham, cheese, tomato and some bechamel. Those are the regular ingredients, how you make it makes the difference. The cheese was not melted, the bread was not the right one which is supposed to be sliced white bread, the ham was good, the tomatoes were cold and the bechamel lacked flavor. I can make that at home. I am posting two pictures: one shows how a Croque Monsieur should look and the other is the one I got. I understand they may have their own version, slightly different but this one is not even close to what a Croque Monsieur should look/taste like. Some of their staff are pretty loud when calling customers to get their food. Loud/rude.

Awful hot chocolate but pastries are good. It has a nice atmosphere but just avoid the hot chocolate. Disappointing.

The food was not good -- the croissant was hard and stale and tasted far from fresh. What was even worse was the service. The white male cashier on the right side had a terrible attitude from the start. He handed me only half of my meal without saying the rest of the order was still coming. When I asked about the remaining portion of my meal, he snapped at me and raised his voice, saying "the rest is coming out" in a very rude and sneering manner. I would have asked to speak with a manager, but I was pressed for time. It's really a shame that some young employees are not trained properly in customer service and basic professionalism. Between the poor quality food and the terrible service, I would never return to this place.

But I could be wrong given I am normally on the New Haven Line). Anyway, this place has 5-star reviews across the bar which is how this ended up being the first option I could find on the Saw Mill. So went we did. You can find street parking right next to its building. This is a nice quaint little art shop, and there's plenty of things here you can buy if you just need that something extra in your life. It is a Filipino shop with plenty to check out if art shops are your thing. I personally get bored with them pretty easily if I'm not fully invested in what art places have to offer, but that's nothing against this place as that is just a personal preference. So what you see on my pictures here is what I had: the Ube cheesecake and the Ube Affogato. Believe it or not this is not my first experience with affogato as there used to be an affogato place on the way to/from work I would stop by for. It's ice cream and espresso, and let me tell you that if you haven't had a good affogato before, you're missing out! In fact, I even once met a cast of actual Netflix actors and actresses at that old affogato shop, and there was one person in the cast that remarked that I could have fit in right with the cast. So by getting the Ube affogato here, it was like taking a trip down memory lane. It WAS however my first experience with ube, so it was a taste of old times and new memories all-in-one. Both things I had were really delicious! If I have more Ube things in the future and they're this good, I might have a new contender for a new favorite flavor of food! The customer service was really nice too. The lady working there you can tell puts a lot of care into what she does. A nice little tidbit I like is that when I asked for a spoon for my cheesecake, she shared that Filipinos tend to eat cheesecake that way as well. I thought that was some really cool knowledge. And the ambiance is very homestyle that sometimes you can't tell it's actually a shop. This will make for a great morning stop if you're ever in the area. Maybe you could stop by here, kick it slow a bit before catching a train to NYC, or even Sleepy Hollow. This place gets both my thumbs way, WAY up!

What a difference in design from the previous Brrzaar café in this same spot years ago. The color on all the walls adds a minimalist+chic feel but keeps the clean look that only a white paint provides! It's the perfect balance, in my opinion. If it's an upbeat café you're after, this husband+wife team at LuDy (named after the couple's 2 children) are bringing their Melbourne coffee culture to quaint Irvington, NY. They partner with Proud Mary Coffee to bring coffee to the masses, Flour Power from Pelham, NY to offer scrumptious baked goods and Spirit Tea. Judging by the number of people I found sitting at the tables chitchatting with their friends/co-workers, etc during my Tuesday 11am visit, this is the place for a hangout over bites and beverages. But do also know, LuDy is loud. I'm not sure if people nowadays know common conversation 101 courtesy using a normal volume. Anyhow. Since their June '24 opening, LuDy's owner is setting himself apart in the community and is the epitome of a friendly neighborhood cafe. And service from him, the morning I was here, was pure gentlemanly as he located a chair for me to sit at one of the empty tables. Thank you! My hibiscus+lemongrass+ ginger root 'Rosella Tonic' iced tea was refreshing. What would've taken my hot chocolate (made with a chocolate sauce) to the next level would've been a darker chocolate kind. But the barista zhuzhed up my drink with a pattern like it was coffee. Thank you again!
