This year I've been seen by three separate practitioners at Visionary Women's Health for a number…read moreof different gynecological assessments and procedures and I've taken my mother, who is nearly 90, for a needed appointment there as well, and all of the practitioners were knowledgeable, informative, caring, and patient during the appointments and Tola Fashokun was especially gentle and insightful with my mom; however, the follow up after one of the appointments has been egregiously unacceptable. I first came to this practice on the recommendation of my primary care physician, who advised that I see a new gynecologist. Previous testing earlier this year showed that I needed to be assessed for possible endometrial cancer and possible unrelated cervical cancer. To address this Janis Logan, a nurse practitioner at Visionary Women's Health, gave me a biopsy of my endometrial lining and a colposcopy which turned out to include several biopsies as well. I've been dealing with these cancer scares for a couple of years now, and Janis Logan explained to me what's been going on with my body and my previous test results more thoroughly and clearly than anyone has to date. The procedures were painful, but she was caring and walked me through everything she was doing, and she even asked me if I wanted the nurse in the room to hold my hand when things got especially tough, which is something I had never been offered before during painful procedures such as these, and it helped to ease the situation a great deal for me. It is clear that this practice puts thought and effort into making women's health not only effective, but also comfortable and accessible (they accept my medical-assistance insurance). After the appointment, Janice Logan let me know that she would be having a follow up TeleMed appointment with me after the results were in to let me know the findings and if I would need a followup procedure such as a hysteroscopy or ultrasound. Because I was waiting to find out whether I had two different types of cancer, I called in about a week to see if the results were in and was told that not all of the results had come back yet and that someone would call me when they did, and I tried again at week two and was told the same thing and was given the additional information that it can sometimes take as long as three weeks for the results to come back. Almost four weeks later I still hadn't heard anything and I was back at the practice for another appointment for an unrelated problem and an appointment for my mother, and I requested that someone speak to me about my test results while I was there. I was told that the practitioner would speak to me about it after my appointment, and then I was given the update that she would speak with me after I attended my mother's appointment with her, and then I was given a third update that the practitioner would call me after I got home. I did not receive a phone call after I got home nor did I receive a phone call the next day. I called again the day after that to ask once again if I could speak with the practitioner to find out the results, and the person taking the call spoke with the practitioner herself and then came back to tell me that a nurse from their practice had already sent me a two-sentence message four days after my procedure was done saying that the results of my biopsy were normal and that I was to call if I had any questions. I explained that I had called several times since then and was told that not all the test results were back, as well, I did not know which of my biopsies that written message was referring to, and so I asked the person on the phone does this mean that the test results were negative for endometrial cancer and negative for cervical cancer, and she replied that she was unable to answer that question, and I once again said that I would like to speak to someone who could answer that question. She told me that the practitioner would call me before 12 noon that day to let me know about the cancer results, which did not occur. She also volunteered that I should request to speak with the head of the practice, Dr. Amy Gueye-Weinstein, to address the problems I was having in getting my results. When I had not heard from the practitioner by noon, I called to request that Dr. Gueye-Weinstein call me, and the person I spoke with said that she would have her colleague, Dr. Gueye-Weinstein, call me and also added that she would have the practitioner I hadn't heard from to call me as well. Neither of them has called me. More than four weeks later, I still don't know whether I have either one of these cancers. I also still don't know whether all of my test results are in, whether I need any additional procedures, or why no practitioner is returning my calls. Update: They had the results, which indicate that I don't have cancer, just 4 days after my procedure, which was before my first phone call. I still haven't received a return phone call.

The office is well-organized, the staff is consistently friendly, and the environment is clean and welcoming. We really appreciate the separation of well and sick visit areas -- it's a thoughtful touch that gives extra peace of mind. Everyone we've encountered has been so kind to our 1.5-year-old, which helps him feel completely at ease during visits. They genuinely interact with the kids and make the experience positive from start to finish. I recently had to call on a weekend and was connected with a nurse who was incredibly helpful and thorough in answering my questions. That kind of care really stands out. We see Dr. Diane Landram, and she is absolutely wonderful. She takes the time to listen, offers helpful and up-to-date information, and never makes you feel rushed or dismissed. This is exactly what pediatric care should look like -- highly recommend!

My husband brought our daughter in for an appointment that was specifically scheduled for two shots. In addition, we requested that they look at stitches that had not completely dissolved. Somehow, when my husband arrived, the staff had no idea why she was there and apparently thought the appointment was only for the stitches. This was not a misunderstanding on our end -- the appointment was booked by the nurse for the purpose of getting her shots. Because everyone was apparently getting ready to leave for the day, my husband and daughter were then rushed through the appointment. The fact that the staff had apparently made a scheduling error and were now inconvenienced by their own mistake is not our problem. To make matters worse, this office has previously used a cold-pack buzzer to help distract our daughter during shots. This time, they didn't. It may seem like a small detail, but when you're dealing with a child getting shots, consistency and basic consideration matter. The worst part of the entire experience, however, was what happened afterward. My husband was sent to the manager's office, where the manager proceeded to question him about why we don't bring our daughter in more often. She actually asked, "How do you know she's growing?" Seriously? We can see her. We are her parents. It is completely inappropriate and incredibly condescending for a manager to question a parent about how they choose to parent their own child, especially when there was absolutely no justification for the attitude she took with my husband. Her demeanor was disgusting, judgmental, and completely unprofessional. She then apparently mumbled something along the lines of how it was "good" that he brought her in for her shots because "you know how people are these days." That comment was completely inappropriate and frankly left us wondering exactly what she was implying. There was absolutely no accountability for the office's scheduling error. Instead, my husband was made to feel as though he was the problem. This entire experience was disrespectful, unprofessional, judgmental, and completely unacceptable. Parents should not have to walk into a pediatric office and be made to feel scrutinized or criticized by the people who are supposed to be providing care for their child. What a disgrace. We have completely lost confidence in this office and will be taking our daughter elsewhere. I would not recommend this office to anyone looking for a place where parents and children are treated with basic respect and professionalism. I've had several pap smears in my life since I am of a certain age. The experience I had here was…read morepainful, I felt like the doctor used a much larger speculum than necessary as insertion and especially pulling out hurt. The day after, my lower back hurt a LOT. This has never happened before and the pain lasted for 2 days. This also sounds weird but the very second the doctor went to my crotch during the pelvic exam (I could not see her because of the gown covering my legs), I could hear laughter erupt right outside the room. After the appointment when I went to check out, I made eye contact with 2 receptionists who were smirking at me in a way that would suggest that they knew something or were laughing at me specifically. I did a double-take because I was taken aback by these looks. They caught my eye again and avoided my gaze afterwards. This might seem like nothing but the combination of the well-timed laughter, the looks of malicious glee from the 2 receptionists, as well as an uncomfortable smirk from the doctor herself as she looked down at my body when escorting me out of the room (after pelvic exam and breast exam), leads me to believe that my privacy was deeply violated. I'm not sure what exactly happened but I feel extremely uncomfortable by my experience and I won't be coming back.

The rest of the office staff are lovey, too. And during a really difficult health experience I had recently, the office called and checked in with me outside of any visits just to see how I was doing--just a little touch of human compassion like that can really go a long way. Plus, the gowns they give you to wear during your exams at this office are real cotton gowns that can fully wrap around you instead of those cheap paper "gowns" some clinics give that are scratchy and don't cover anything. Little touches like that just makes coming to this office feel so much more dignified and cared for than some other places I've been.

However, I left the office with more questions than answers. My diagnosis is unclear to me because it's inconsistent with what other doctors said. Either someone is incompetent or lying to me. I just wish I knew who was giving me accurate information. What I do know is my visit summary from today's visit isn't fully consistent with what was discussed in office. This is the second time I reviewed information in my summary/therapy orders and there's inaccuracies or treatment plans I'm unaware of. For example, Dr. Zan made a notation that one of my diagnosis is based on hearsay from me (as if I'm lying or something)--BUT I provided her the paperwork from my previous rheumatologist's office that diagnosed and treated me prior. I do a very good job of keeping records of my care and share them with all of my providers, to ensure there's no confusion or delay in my care. I can't lie about lab work and a doctor's findings! So either she's suggesting my previous doctor was lying or I am cured. She kept saying she don't know what I had before but she can only go by what her recent test says. Why not retest or try to get to the bottom of why the ANA testing is inconsistent? It's as if she's ok with leaving it as is. I want a definitive answer to what conditions I have so I can treat them PROPERLY. Her notations seem to suggest my symptoms may be weight related but if she researched my health records provided to her, my conditions and symptoms existed before my recent weight gain. I was VERY thin when I was initially diagnosed. Weight gain may exacerbate symptoms but I want to treat the underlying condition(s) thats causing problems in the first place. Huge red flag when a doctor suggests weight or mood is the cause of ailments--especially when there's clear abnormalities in lab work. Maybe she thought I would be offended if she brought up my weight but communication is important on BOTH ends. If she had expressed this possibility with me, I could have clarified that my abnormal lab work and conditions began before I gained any weight. Ironically, the pain associated with my health conditions is apart of why I gained weight. I feel like I'm regressing, rather than progressing. I've spent the past few years researching and spending a lot of money out of pocket to manage my symptoms because I dont want to rely on prescriptions for the rest of my life. I've followed the advice from my providers, including Dr. Zan--but to no avail. My symptoms were improving and I was hopeful I would experience normalcy again. Now I'm back to the drawing board of finding care for whatever conditions I have. I will be consulting with my PCP about what I should do next. I appreciate his approach by actually doing a thorough exam, ordering tests and requesting labs, to rule out possible health conditions. The first physician that actually listened and found abnormalities with my labs. I credit him for my improvement over the years. It's a shame it's come to this point. This is very frustrating. I don't want my health to go back to my lowest point again. Hopefully, this is a temporary setback. All I can do for now is leave reviews of my experience and talk to my PCP about my options.

This office group used to be in Ellicott City and I have been with them for over 7 years now. My old regular doctor retired ( Dr Gertler) and I was able to get a switch to Dr Zan. The staff has been so supportive over the years and they have helped keep me knowledgeable about my care and my diagnosis. I have also been very grateful to be able to have my lab work, infusions, and shots all under this group if I need them. Getting referrals, appointments, and communication is easy through one on one care , patient portal, or voice mail. Awesome team! And there's a cafe in the building in case you need to snacks there. The staff at the deli is very nice too. Lots of parking! And the patient drop off circle is very helpful. This venue is near so many shops, restaurants, and easily accessible via I-29 or 32. It's closer to me for that, I am even more happy!

This office left me feeling abandoned and dismissed during one of the scariest medical experiences…read moreof my life. I was sent home after my procedure with incomplete discharge papers that weren't even signed. Within 30 minutes, I was in severe abdominal pain and unable to urinate. I called the office and was told this was "normal." Only 15 minutes later, for them to call me back saying something wasn't right, and was instructed to go to urgent care for a catheter. Urgent care couldn't help, and I ended up being taken by ambulance to the ER--per Dr. Lowe's own recommendation. What's even more upsetting is that after sending me to the ER, no one from this office ever followed up to see if I was okay. The only communication I received was about making my payment. At my follow-up appointment, no one in the office seemed aware of my complications or ER visit. I shared my frustration about the lack of concern, and I was told Dr. Lowe wasn't available--another physician saw me instead. Later that day, Dr. Lowe called and completely dismissed my concerns. He said it was "just complications," that it didn't matter he hadn't followed up, and overtalked me when I tried to explain how traumatic the experience had been. He even said, "That's what consent forms are for," as though signing paperwork excuses any lack of care. His final reminder? That I still needed to pay my bill. This entire experience made it clear that once my procedure was done, I wasn't seen as a patient anymore--just as a payment. Patients, black woman, deserve better communication, compassion, and basic follow-up, especially after being sent to the ER by their own doctor.
