I decided to hop in car and check it out. It was fairly busy when I walked in, but I signed in, and was immediately seated for a pedicure. I did have to wait about 15-20 min after my pedicure for someone to start on my full set of nails, but I expected that, as a walk in, and at the time of day I went. The employees were super nice and friendly, and I talked to the lady giving me a pedicure for a good while. She did excellent! The whole place felt nice, comfortable and chill. Glad I gave them a try!

Scam artists…read more Whatever you do, DO NOT sign up for a "membership." They reel you into it by telling you it gets you ~$10 off each massage, which it does, but here is how their scam works: They tell you that your monthly membership fees apply to your massages; however, that's only true sometimes. Sometimes they apply the monthly membership fee to your massage, but other times they charge your card even though you have membership fees accrued. Even if you only go once in a month, you'll sometimes see (on your card statement) that they not only charged the monthly membership fee, but also charged you for the massage. This causes monthly membership fees to add up in your account. When I went back through my card statements, and found that I had been getting charged monthly membership fees that were not being applied when I got a massage, I called my card company. Apparently, they agreed that I was being taken for a ride, but they were only able to refund me ~$400 since the rest was taken too far in the past. This still left me out a few hundred dollars, which Hand and Stone already took (and still has) from me. Hand and Stone contacted me, saying my card wasn't working (obviously because I cancelled it, since removing the card from my account wasn't an option, and now we know why). I told them I cancelled it, and that I wanted to cancel my membership. Hand and Stone told me that I would need to pay ANOTHER monthly membership fee if I wanted to cancel my membership, even though I still have hundreds of dollars credit on my account from which they could take it. They are adamant about me giving them another card, apparently to keep the scam going (or at least put the cherry on top of the scam by charging me another monthly fee). They told me I could use the rest of my credit over the next 60 days, but only if I put a card on file with them "for cancellation fees, in case [I] cancel the appointment." I said, "If I were to cancel, you could just take the fee out of the hundreds of dollars you already have on my account." Nope. I even asked, "can I do a walk-in massage without providing a credit card?" They said (through text message), "Unfortunately, even if you walk in we still need to book the appointment at that moment and that would require a credit card on file. The system does not allow to save any appointment without it." So, even if I walk in and wait in the lobby for my massage, they still need a card to book it (even though they already have more than enough money from me to cover it). In short, I cannot use the hundreds of dollars already on my account at Hand and Stone unless I give them a credit/debit card (presumably so they can charge me for another month of membership). I would say DO NOT give them your credit/debit card, but since you can't even get a massage without one, just go somewhere else. Places that operate like this typically don't stay in business long. I never want to set foot in that place again.
