I wish I came here sooner! Called here in a panic as I was running around for an 8th year wedding anniversary gift for my ever loving husband. The woman who answered the phone was very nice and able to answer my question in regards to searching for the perfect set and chopsticks to pair with 8th year traditional gift of pottery. Entered the Windward mall location and had to stay focused because I was quickly mesmerized at all the beautiful handpieces and of course, prices were not bad at all! Put together a sashimi plate set with shoyu jar, sauce dish, and picked out wooden chopsticks to complete this set! I was in and out of there within ten minutes and the woman was very nice helping me to wrap and pack up since I had my 2 year old falling asleep in one arm. read more

There are local artists and I recently found the perfect Christmas gifts for my closest friends that were very well received! Mr. Chang is always so very friendly and welcoming! Decided to buy some coffee cups and other items by Jeff Chang, it's been 10 years, brought other items too, like Salt container, Chopsticks holder, etc. I remember when I first saw there items on display at the old Liberty House. The lady at the counter was very helpful and talk to her about old times, I think that's Jeff Chang wife. Not sure why I see some 1-star reviews on service. I've been in the retail and customer service business for 34 years, didn't see any rudeness. Jeff Chang pottery do last for long time. Pick up a cup or plate before they no longer there, The wife said Jeff is 74 years old, He will soon retire and stop making anymore pottery. Jeff Chang Pottery is a whimsical store on the second floor of Windward Mall. It's located in the theater wing. In terms of what you can find here, first of all, friendly and helpful service. The folks here, including Mr. Chang himself, will gladly show you around the store and help you find what you need as well as discuss the various styles and pieces throughout. In terms of selection, all kinds of pieces here, big and small. From wind chimes to blown glass figurines, metal biker style rings, to clay pots, there are so many options. The best part is that each piece has character to it, making them perfect for gifts. Prices are also reasonable. I've come here a few times. On my most recent visit, I bought a little bee for our advent calendar; $2! I've also bought one of their miniature creatures and used it to make a snow globe. Not only are the pieces here an expression of the artists' creativity, they can help you express yourself too. read more

Popped in today with some time to kill before a movie -- had no idea how big the store is or how much stuff was in there. Managed to pick up several Christmas gifts and found some really nice art pieces inside that I like. They also had these really awesome metal mobiles based on popular films. For everyone complaining about the vaccine card check -- it's a private business so they can make whatever rules they want. I also believe at least one of the staff has health issues, so it's not unreasonable for them to want to protect their employees, is it? It's super obvious that the bulk of negative reviews aren't coming from shoppers, just those who would want to see small businesses in Hawaii suffer further during the pandemic. ‍ Customer service was friendly and chatty. Everything inside is reasonably priced for the fact most of it is handmade/high quality. The staff was very friendly and the product came as advertised but it cost triple the price of other vendors. I purchased a product from the store and later searched online for another color since the store didn't carry the color. I found the same product on Amazon for $60 while this store charged $180+. I quickly found my receipt to return the item only to read a handwritten "Exchanges only. No refunds. Mahalo." The store has beautiful products but I would double check the prices before purchase. Yes, I could've/should've priced it before purchasing, and yes this is business but personally, I don't like to do business this way. I will not return despite the nice items because I cannot support price gauging. read more

In the past, we have purchased several pieces from their store but NO MORE and here is why. The lady that takes the money @ this place needs to learn sum manners. She has no respect for individuals w' disabilities. It seems that I am NOT the only one that feels this way as I have read some o' the other comments and we all agree this business is going too far enforcing the ILEGAL mandates as they are asking for vaccination cards to shop in their store. Bad enough we have to wear a mask for the flu already, it seems she is part o' the problem and why we still are under this unlawful conditions ~ at the time that we went, she was seating down eating (NO MASK o' course) I always questioned this mandate, how is it that it doesn't affect us while we seating down but it seems that everyone believes it does once we are standing UP!! Go figure... besides, this is a pottery craft store NOT a restaurant, she has to get w' the program or shut their store. It's a shame I have to give one star with a bad review. We have been buying Jeff Chang pottery pieces since they were at Ward Center. My mother in law loves his stuff so every Xmas or Mother's Day we end up here buying another ceramic piece for her collection. Now that's at least 20 years we have been purchasing his stuff. Every time we come into this location at Windward Mall I have to prepare myself for the caucasian women who packs our pieces and takes our money. She has horrible customer service skills and i can agree with other yelpers she is very unpleasant to deal with. I can only assume this is the wife of Jeff Chang. Needless to say, we deal with her and move on. This visit today I can honestly say was our last to his store. My husband, daughter, and myself made our trek from Kahala to the Windward side to go get my mother in laws moms day gift. We walk inside his store and are abruptly told my husband's mask was not good enough. He is wearing a gator mask which was sold as a "mask". My husband prefers this style because it sits better on his bearded face. We have never been turned away from any store for this type of mask, and I will wear one as well from time to time. Now we are all masked up enough to enter the huge mall and shop but Jeff Chang took it upon himself to say my husband's mask wasn't good enough. How would he know...is he a dr? Masks are bull anyway as far as I'm concerned but because of Jeff Changs dismissal of my husband's choice of mask he has lost our business forever. We have spent hundreds in his store but obviously he could care less about losing long time customers. I hear he's thinking of retirement soon, good, I think it's time. read more

Jeff Chang customers: Jeff was well known years ago for his innovative designs and especially for his raku style ceramics. What a gifted artist! However, at this time, I agree with several negative reviews and give this shop an absolutely poor rating. I have shopped in this beautiful shop and purchased hundreds of dollars of Jeff Chang's hand made pottery for family gifts and personal purchases over the years. I am aware that the woman who sits stationed on a table near the entrance is Jeff's wife. Jeff's son used to work the Ward Center's store before they closed. Jeff's wife was also stationed at the Pearlridge store as well and they too closed. Jeff's son was an asset to the company. Jeff's wife however is a deterrent to all customers. It is amazing how abrasive and sad this woman is to customers. Jeff was in the store that day and is aware of the actions of his wife. I left without purchasing anything. And I too will no longer shop at this one time favorite respite because of the presence of this sad, unhappy member of his family. Auwe! read more

My wife and I have always been big fans of this talented artist and have purchased several of his creations over the years. Unfortunately one of our favorite Raku pottery was damaged during a home renovation and we are looking to replace it with something similar. His artistic style of Island inspired Asian pottery compliments our mostly Asian furnishings and decor. The artist captures the natural beauty of the islands in his work that seems to create a peaceful calming effect like a gentle ocean breeze and the waves endlessly carving the lava rock along the shore. Also available in this gallery are creations by other artists. One of the more distinguished is Naoki the brilliant Gyotaku artist. The prices here range from affordable to reasonable depending on your appreciation for one of a kind original art master pieces. These creations are meant to be passed on from one generation to the next and may someday be part of a priceless collection. In the meantime wish me happy hunting as I search for a replacement for the damaged one. read more

I love to support talented local businesses and Jeff Chang Pottery has been around for years in Kaneohe. I remember his original shop on Kamehameha Hy with all his raku pottery and now his store on the 2nd floor of the Windward mall near Regal cinemas is big and filled with wonderful whimsical artwork from jewelry, windchimes, Raku saku cups to worry stones and pictures. Alot of his work can be delicate so I wouldn't advise to bring young children in there. My husband and I go in there and I show him a few things I like for Christmas and I always end up with something! I used to think his stuff was expensive ,but they've brought in reasonably priced items as well as expensive artwork. If you're waiting for your Regal movie to start,wander in and look around. I grew up with Jeff Change Pottery always being around the corner, and it continues to be one of my favorite shops to visit. They have such a variety of lovingly handmade goods and the people who work there are incredibly nice. Every year for Christmas I buy a handful of little glass animals for a friend and whatever other neat things catch my attention. It saddens me to see so many negative reviews from people complaining about having to show proof of vaccination and/or wearing masks. It's not fair that enforcement has fallen onto retail workers, but since it has, I'd hope that the people who shop small businesses would be aware of that and try to accommodate. Try not to let these silly reviews deter you; it shouldn't be on the employees to baby sit difficult customers (or their young children) but it's something we've all had to get used to in recent times. Anyway, this is a lovely local store that has always felt like a pillar of Kaneohe and its local pottery scene. I've seen pieces by past teachers and I know that this is a place for artists and shoppers to connect; it's a real treasure to have in a mall that has been rapidly changing. I come here every year for gifts, and I will continue to do so as long as they have pottery and trinkets to sell! read more

I was really surprised today when I approached the store and read their notice of check in requirement for a vacc card. This is the first non eatery store that I have encountered that would require that. No matter what I will not do any business with that kind of discrimination. For all who cannot wake up do you really think that any Christmas shopping or celebrating would be happening in a true pandemic? And for those who cannot understand how the vacc requirement could be discriminatory then try to imagine that you cannot enter your normal shopping places because you are ______________ (fill in the blank). This is my new go to place for cool stuff on the Islands. Jeff Chang Pottery & fine Crafts, secrets some of the best Raku pottery at reasonable prices I have yet found - including Japan. The employee that was a older white lady, with glasses was very rude the second my family and I walked into the store. My little siblings and I walk in because my brother wanted to see the rings. He's 9 years old, and a well behaved little guy. I made sure I was next to the two of them the entire time to make sure they handle things carefully and such. He was just trying them on, asking how much it is to me. I couldn't figure it out because I couldn't read the writing so I didn't answer right away. And all of a sudden, the worker sitting behind the desk raised her voice and said 'those are for older woman. There is nothing for children here.' Immediately, I got irritated but ignored her. My brother can try on rings if he wants to try on rings. It's not her place to tell him what he likes or doesn't like. And then, after about a minute, she gets up from behind her desk, comes around all the way up to us and reminds us to our faces that this is made for older woman only. And I said, 'he can wear older woman jewelry if he wants to.' Then she says 'you can't touch it unless you're planning on buying it.' How am I suppose to know if we want it if we don't try it on. So then I asked, 'so we can't even try stuff on??' And she said, 'well, I'm just saying because we wouldn't have his size.' So first it's, 'it's for older woman.' Then it's, 'can't touch it if not buying.' Then lastly it's, 'I don't think we'll have his size.' Sounds like a bunch of different reasons that she's pulling out of thin air. It's discriminative to treat a family like that just because there is kids with me. I'm not surprised if they try and kick everyone out that has kids with them. It's not like I wasn't watching them and letting them run around the store. If they were, then I would understand. News flash, people have families. And if you guys are going to strict talk everyone that has kids with them, what's the sense in even being a store in a family mall. If you don't want us to touch things, then put it in the things you don't want touched in a clear container or something. That was just plain rude and discriminative towards kids. What if he wanted to buy the ring for himself? You just lost a sale. What if he wanted to buy that ring for his mother ? You'll never know because you assumed and lost another sale. Never coming there again, and best believe I'll be telling my family and friends the same. read more

They discriminate against families, plain and simple. The message that they are sending is that if you take your kids out in public they don't want your business. Not a great policy, not good for community, not aloha. I had my six year old son and was wearing my one year old. From the moment we walked in, the older white lady employee was shadowing us, literally within 10 feet of us for the first few minutes we were in the store, but said nothing, not even hello -- just creepy and antisocial. I stayed with my son and didn't let him touch anything breakable in the store, and after awhile my youngest started getting antsy and making noise. Another older Asian male employee complained to me about the noise. This may have been Mr. Chang -- I don't know. I didn't really care to ask, and it shouldn't matter, but it might explain the other negative reviews and the reason that other employees feel empowered to treat families this way. There may have been two other shoppers at the other end of the store, no one else. It was clear that we were only bothering the older employees, and he seemed uncomfortable in telling me so. I had to ask him plainly if he was asking us to leave, at which point he said yes. Not very compassionate or understanding, as the only reason my baby was making noise was because he wasn't allowed to get down and run through their store. We were all kids at some point, but maybe they were treated as nuisances when they were children so they feel it's ok to treat strangers' kids the same. This is the holiday season and people are shopping with their families at the mall... I don't know what they expect. Regardless, I won't be spending my money there, EVER. The quality of your art or the art of others that you've curated won't make up for you being a garbage person. read more

I've always been a fan of Jeff and Karen Chang. The store is a delight to visit and see what new items they have for sale. It's definitely a treat for those who appreciate the fine arts and those of us who aren't so cultured. It's worth the time checking every nook and cranny to see what treasure may lurk there. Jeff Chang is without doubt a raku master and there's many examples of his handicraft in the shop. From large vases to dishes to coffee mugs, have all been loving created by him. His wife, Karen does a marvelous job of filling the store with items created by local and Mainland artisans. Not only is there a wide variety of items (sand paintings, mobiles, wind chimes, small glass animals, etc) but there's a wide variation on price so they have many nice things that don't cost a fortune. For friends on the Mainland, I've always selected pieces from their Koa Wood products and in the past have sent business cards holders, compact mirror and letter opener to friends, all of whom were delighted with their gift. I have noticed they do rotate their stock so if you see something you like, it's better to pick it up now rather than wait till they can restock. In the past, there have been some items they haven't restocked. The Changs are wonderful folks and very knowledgeable in pottery. I enjoy talking with them and getting questions answered on the science of pottery. If you're in the area, it's well worth the visit! read more

Jeff Chang is a fantastic artist and makes beautiful pottery that can be used everyday. The store has a great variety and his pieces are well thought out for what their use will be.
