A hidden gem in Kaimuki! My friend and I came in with no plan but we had a great time! We eventually decided on getting matching bracelets. One of the workers, Parker, was super helpful and told us everything we needed to know- materials, selection, price, and even showed us how to chain everything together. I've visited this place about 3-4 times in the past year. I find that my experience here differs each time that I visit, which I think depends on how many other customers are present in the shop. It can also get cramped really quickly if there are many people there. There seems to be different workers present each time that I visited. I've had better service when the elderly women, or a man, was present working. They have many bead selections which could be purchased individually. Freshwater pearls in various sizes and shapes, some Tahitian pearls, local favorite flower beads (such as pikake), shell beads, semiprecious beads (amethyst, etc) and more. They also sell gold filled chains, priced per inch, and they have a selection of styles to choose from. They also offer services to do the craft work for your jewelry project (which can be pricey) and also workshops. I think that their pricing here is steeper compared to other beading stores. A singular small resin pikake bead costed $3+, but I've gotten a three pack for $6 elsewhere. read more

Three of my coffee crawl group wear necklaces they made ages ago at Bead it. I would love to learn to make (simple) creations to wear. I had no idea... even what wire wrapping was or anything. I had a beautiful young instructor named Olivia for my wire basics class. I was thrilled that I got to make something I could take away. It's not very hard, as long as you follow all of the steps carefully. I came away with a necklace, supplies (at a discount) to make another one, and a handout with each step. Olivia was very patient, thorough and to the point. I think I did well... even though at the end of the class I was a bit saturated and made mistakes.. oh well. Bead It might be my favorite store on Oahu, and I'm there at least once a month when I'm on island. I'm an avid jewelry maker and frequently find myself here stocking up on wire, clasps, chain, and of course beads. As the name suggests they have a huge variety of beads, from one of a kind vintage beads to shells, pearls, various crystal beads, and a huge seed bead selection. They also carry many varieties of wire and clasps so you can find whatever color and gauge you're looking for. The staff are extremely helpful - if you have a project in mind but don't know what you need, you can tell them your end goal and they'll tell you what you need for it. They have short hours and often get busy, but they're right next to Banan and the crack seed store so you can get a snack and come back if it's too crowded. Their prices are higher than what you would find online, but they are not unreasonable and they frequently advertise sales and new inventory on Five Star and their Instagram. read more

Last Wednesday we head here hoping that Bead It can fix it and thankfully this guy named Brendan (owner of the bead shop at the same time) is more welcome to help us. Showed us a lil bit of simple trick to loop the string and to make it short in a span of about 10mins. he fixed it and bandit is clapping with glee. Brendan is really helpful & friendly. Our experience so far is good. He answers our queries & is being a nice helpful guy to his customer. Well except for the 1st time that we enter the place. He's a lil bit cold at first and took a minute before he entertains us coz he somehow did sorting of some of the beads in the shelf. Little Tip for customizing a jewelry there, come to this place first then Banan next, because you have to wait for them to make it anyways. Anyways didn't expect to come into this place until my friend scrolled the TikTok and it introduced Bead it and Banan, and we did not expect they were next to each other. We did not disappoint when we walked into the store, we were greeted by a lady staff there with a great smile. We customized friendship bracelets and she will make it for you, all you need to do is to pick out the charms and chains, but of course you have to pay a fee for them to make them. I still didn't expect it will be $50, but it's okay I think this is very beautiful and a great experience. The lady who did our bracelet is very professional and know she's been doing this for years! I just wanted to say thank you for the awesome help I received yesterday at Bead It! I'm not very crafty, yet , but I was trying to make a custom keychain for my sons baseball teammates. It being my first time I went to Ben Franklin and bought some beads thinking I could do it simple. When I couldn't figure it out and was about to give up I tried going to Bead it! I was looking for Swarovski crystals to make bracelets. The had a variety of colors and sizes. Prices were reasonable. I got 100 of the regular sized ones for $12. I left with over 200 pieces of crystal. The lady that helped me was friendly. I could tell that she knew her stuff. Some of the crystals were in the wrong containers and she spotted them right away. They looked the same to me because the colors were similar. They also sell other beads at this store. I really didn't look around. I was pleasantly surprised by the service I received. I inquired via text about necklace supplies and received a response right away. They had what I needed so I decided to head down to the store. In looking at the chains, I was explaining to the guy that I broke my necklace and was looking to repair it myself. He was very kind in assisting me and proceeded to fix it without me having to ask or charging me. He even salvaged parts from my broken chain to save me a few bucks. He didn't make me feel uncomfortable about it either. I expressed concern about jumprings and how the ones I have weren't very good and he assured me that the ones he has are good and locks in place. It was evident that his were better than what I was using and I felt better about it as my pendant is real gold. I also told him that I had a bracelet I wanted to spruce up and he assisted me with that as well. I was extremely grateful as I am not a professional jewelry maker so it would've taken me much longer to accomplish with my bad eyes and lack of supplies. I did take a second to peruse the store and noticed a very wide assortment of beads, tools, and everything you need for jewelry making. He also shared with me that they offer jewelry making classes as well. I have been to other craft stores but this seems to be the place if you're looking for reasonable prices and variety. Very stylish and good store. I am very happy with the service my mother has received. They were able to fix or adjust her necklaces in a very elegant and professional manner. Also what I noticed that there was baskets in the store where we can use. This will be a good idea for the people who are having a challenging time carrying their items with their hands. So I love that this place is very well maintained and there are signs posted everywhere so that the little ones don't wander off and touch things where they don't get injured. BeadIt! is my favorite and only jewelry store I go to. I can always find good beads, crystals, precious gems, chains, metals, & tools whenever I'm making something for a gift or just needing a craft day. I can never leave without a purchase because I always find inspiration in that store when I see something new it's so bad! They even offer classes on jewelry making which is awesome. I'm not sure which workers the other ppl had with bad reviews but I had a totally fine exp. The worker helped me just fine and when I said I was going to just look around after it was just fine as well. I don't think I'm that friendly nor do I carry a friendly demeanor, and if not for my face mask I probably have rbf lol, however I think because I come in without a "serve me, peasant" attitude I tend to always get good service most places that I go. The price of their stretchy line is on par and the price of their glue is def on the high side. However I knew supporting local meant I wasn't going to get amazon prices. Plus I can be sure the cement isn't all old and crusty as well. Their head selection is among with variety and quality. If you compare their beads to the cheap Etsy ones, you've simply not done your research at least for their crystal ones. Much of their single beads are very near perfectly eye clear with deep colors easily what online stores call "AA" but waaaayyyy better. Then the ones on their wall. They were of ridiculous level quality and color. I'm not am expert by any means but to anyone even without exp, the level of eye clean of the beads on the wall was insane. I don't think I've seen citrine or quartz so clean to the point it almost looks like glass until closely inspected. Their morganite had such deep colors I was surprised it even existed like that. Even online AA and AAA Etsy stuff are pale in color even if some level of eye clean. To be fair their morganite was not that clear, but color of crystal also plays a huge role in value. I could stare at their wall awhile lol. Maybe I'll throw some money down in the future for some high grade crystal, but for now I just bought stretchy line and glue, not even a.big spender and I was wearing a faded black shirt that looked long past it's throw out date lol, but was treated just fine read more

I've only been to Bead It a few times (once w/a friend who was looking to make make jewelry, twice on my own), never once have I had any bad experiences or rude customer service. There's usually 1-2 people there, so you might be on your own for a bit until they get to you, but I never mind that because it gives me time to look around without feeling pressured to buy anything. They will help you to finish it with the crimping and clasps, but don't come here all snooty and expect them to do everything for you. 2) I needed to shorten bracelet #2 because it was so big that I was able to slip it on/off without having to undo the clasp. - The same sales rep went to work right away in snipping off the existing end crimp, excess wires and removed a few beads from the bracelet. Before reattaching everything, she double-checked by wrapping it around my wrist to make sure I was happy w/the final length. ****Crimp service was $3 (I had a couple extra charms that she was nice enough to add on, free of charge), the 2x2mm crimp bead was $0.26. Total visit cost me $3.51, which isn't very much at all. - I know I could've bought my own roll of Stretch Magic cords for $3 online (excluding shipping), but I would still have to buy crimping beads and crimp pliers to do everything else, so Bead It definitely saved me money. Since they're usually busy helping customers, you might have to call them a couple times before they pick up. However, the person who took my call was friendly and very helpful in suggesting which type of materials would work well for my bracelets. She was quite patient and nice, she really took the time to answer my questions, so I'm surprised w/the negative feedbacks from some reviews. I have a plethora of shells that I've collected over the years and with no intentional purpose of using them, I decided I should make jewelry with them. I had heard some good things about Bead it classes, so I decided to look into it. After taking 3 classes (and about $250 later), I have come to the conclusion that the classes are made for people who have little to no experience working with their hands and have no real intention of making jewelry after taking the class. I work as an orthodontic assistant--I am working with my hands all day long, using pretty much the same tools that we used in the classes. I understand that most people aren't orthodontic assistants, I just wish Bead It didn't make it mandatory to take basic classes before taking more advanced classes for people who already know how to use basic tools. After you take basic classes, you can take more advanced classes. The more advanced classes do not include materials, so plan on spending about $100 per class for the class itself and the materials. I thought that the more advanced classes were not complete; we were able to take home a finished product but not really taught how to finish the product ourselves leading me to feel that these classes are just really expensive pastimes for some people. I don't think I will be returning to Bead It. I found a jewelry supply store online that is much less expensive and has free shipping. The supplies I've found on the website look suspiciously like the things Bead It carries, at about half the price. There are also free educational videos on the same site. read more

The stars are only because Bead It has a great selection of everything, I've been coming here for years, there reward system for points is pretty neat too. Although, I have to say the service today was not friendly or helpful AT ALL. The lady working the counter today (it was only her), January 24th, did not acknowledge me, welcome me in the store, or ask if I needed help, I felt invisible. The duration of my time in the store, she was occupied helping another customer which is totally understandable and I was being patient to wait until she was done assisting the other customer before I ask her a question. I finally ask my question if they had a particular type of charm, she just points in the corner of the store and says "it's somewhere over there." No effort to help assist me at all. Then, after having to look myself and potentially wanting to buy different chains I change my mind to not buy those items anymore since the damn lady didn't even help me to get them from the higher shelves. So I just grab one item I needed ... I'm waiting in line for the register, what seems like forever because 10-15 minutes pass by, (because she's helping the lady ahead of me pick out strings/beads.) I don't even get a "I'll be right with you" instead she completely ignores me, GIVES THE GIRL INFRONT OF ME A WHOLE TUTORIAL ON BRACELET MAKING, at that point I was going to put everything back and walk out. Instead I'm glad I just waited two minutes till she finally rings me up, I try to start small talk and friendly conversation.. she was completely uninterested. At first he gave me 9 cents as change and when I told him about his mistake, he made another mistake and gave me 81 cents. I would think that after the first mistake he would be more careful. A couple weeks ago I went in the kaimuki location because I needed chain or a bead strand to finish a necklace I was working on. I had been in there just a couple times before when the owner was working and had a pleasant experience, but this last time there were two younger girls working. I got there at 2pm, realizing they closed at 3, and there were already 3 people in the store, so they were at capacity already and I waited outside with 3 other girls ahead of me. It got to be about 2:30 and one person came out, the girls ahead of me said I could go next because they wanted to go in together. I thanked them and told them I'd be really quick. But then one of the sales girls waved me away, saying that person who just left was only there to pick up and they were still too full. So I go back out and wait with there other girls. Then a group came out, so I told the other girls please just go since they were ahead of me before. Then it's 2:45 before anyone else comes out. A lady comes and I tell her there's a line and no one has come out yet, so she gets behind me. Then the sales girl who's taller with short hair comes out and asks the lady behind me what she needs. Maybe she knows her, but I say excuse me I've been waiting almost an hour, and the sales girl just looks at me blankly and ignores me and continues talking to the lady. Then someone comes out of the store and I try to go in, and the sales girl blocks the door and lets the lady behind me go in!!! I say I was actually ahead of her, and the girl again just gives me a blank look and lets the other lady in. The other lady even says oh, sorry, this girl was ahead of me, and the sales girl just goes on like she heard nothing! Finally I'm allowed to go in at 2:50, then when I'm looking for the beads and chain I had seen on their website, the sales girl announces there's only 5 minures left before close! The ohter sales girl with long hair asks me what I'm looking for and helps me. Then when I go to the register the short hair sales girl says "is that it?" Like I should've been buying more. That's the only thing she says directly to me this entire experience, "is that it!" Before she couldn't be bothered to acknowledge my presence. I will never go back there again. I couldn't figure out if she was being racist or just rude, but she was the perfect example of what not to do when working in customer service! This place is dangerously fun! The staff is educated and upon checking out make sure that you have everything you need for a certain project (beading= do you have jump rings? Metal work= do you have flux?). It's a super helpful element, since the shop is beautifully distracting in so many ways and causes your imagination to be thrown off focus. For small Miyuki beads (what I use the most of), their stock is smaller, but they have key colors and with the space they have they have much more than would seem possible. For accent stones, jewels, beads, etc they cannot be surpassed. Go check them out! You'll leave with what you need and a little bit more. Highly recommend. Mahalo! read more

As a new enthusiast to the art of beading and crafting, I found this store to be very cool. Parking is tough since it's in the busy part of Kaimuki. I've been lucky to find street parking on most of my visits (usually Sundays) but there's always the paid lot which is pretty reasonable. Sure, the materials here are on the pricey side. But unlike Ben Franklin or a lot of other bead places I've looked at, this is one of the only places that sell most of their beads ala carte. As a newbie, I don't really want to invest in a ton of beads/fastenings I'm not sure I'm going to use! Shopping at Bead It is a great way to explore the field of beading and pick up cute beads individually without having to buy entire packages of them. They have a great variety of beads from Australian crystals to shells/pearls to gemstones, plastic beads, metal beads, and more! They also offer introductory classes where they teach you how to make items and let you go home with a finished product(s)! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!! A stone had fallen off a piece of costume jewelry & several friends suggested getting a replacement from a bead store. I called Bead It since they are just up the street from me.. 3x within the hour with no answer. On the 4th attempt, my call was finally answered. The sales girl was curt and confirmed they had what I was looking for. When I innocently asked if they also carried the stone without the hole, she scoffed & said "No. This is a BEAD shop!" For those who have had good service, lucky you. I entered looking for letter pendants to make for gifts, however they didn't have all the letters I wanted in stock. Eager to help me, one associate quickly contacted the other locations if they had any at their locations. Both quickly responded via email or text on the associate's phone that they were all out on their end. That was the only great thing. EXTREMELY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! Walked in armed with a picture of a necklace I wanted to try to make. I have never attempted to make jewelry and thought they could help with suggestions. WRONG! The girl who looked like she was in college "helped" me. She looked like she was unhappy to be there and would rather be anywhere else but work. I showed her the picture (yes it was a little blurry, but I tried to enlarge it for her). She said she couldn't tell how many chains there were (obviously 3) or how they were attached to each other. I asked if she had the chain to start with and I would attempt to assemble it myself and she just pointed to a wall with rolls of different sized/colored chains. After trying to get some information from her on the graduated pearls, she turned to what I am assuming is the manager/owner (Asian woman with long hair and glasses) who was even MORE SURLY and grumpy. The manager proceeded to tell me that all their "beads" (pearls) were over there and pointed to the opposite corner. I asked her when she was talking to ask if they sold the thing that connects the "bead" (pearl) to the chain because I was a novice. She said "Can you let me finish talking please?" After looking at the poor selection of pearls decided that I would look elsewhere and write about this experience at which point the "manager" said "we offer classes on how to make the jewelry tomorrow, because we don't show people over the counter how to do it". Obviously, you don't help people over the counter either! Prices are extremely high and the service is non-existent. You could probably go if you needed something desperately, but I would think twice about going there, especially since you have to pay for parking in the adjacent lot or find metered street parking. read more

I originally purchased a Living Social deal and took the Bead It class. I didn't use the coupon from the class for future purchases right away and it expired. I returned to the store to eventually buy beads to start my first project a few months later and spent over $200 buying tools, beads and supplies. As soon as I got home I noticed I had an email from Bead It for a 25% off sale they were having the next day. I immediately called the shop and asked if I could use the coupon or return my merchandise and re-purchase it. I received a call back stating that all sales are final and that I wouldn't be able to use the coupon, unless I wanted to come back to shop and buy additional beads/supplies. As a marketing professional myself I value customer service greatly for my company and try to bend over backwards to make sure we always have a great outcome from a customer inquiry. Especially since it's more expensive to find a new customer then retain an existing one. I feel that this was a bad experience for a new customer and hopefully this review will help. I won't be shopping at Bead It again. read more
