I've been coming here for years to get custom items framed and have never been disappointed with the work that has been done. The staff is great and very helpful. This location is in Kahaluu after the Hygienic Store where Kam Hwy & Old Kam Hwy merges at the Seven-11. It is a cute 2 story building with parking to the side. They have a great variety of art pieces throughout the gallery. You can easily get lost in the beauty of the art work. Kyle always does a tremendous job and the staff are so so kind. The price of the artwork varies. The artists are varied in skill. All the artwork caters to the Hawaiian genera. It is a bit cloying, but there are some that are not so down your throat aloha vibe. The service is so-so. They are attentive, but I feel like they are a bit slow. While buying an item, one of the workers slowed the process down by speaking with the woman who was ringing us up about something not related. Overall, if you want local artists and what to support a small business, it is fine. They have varied media and artists as well as prices. I want to say one of a kind cards are 15 each ( the cheapest thing I saw), and many paintings run up to about 1,500. Be careful of the prints. Many are not limited. If they are, they will be marked like they should be. read more

Laetitia is just phenomenal. We have been colon here since 2019 and each time discover artists with love due to her care along with vetting of who is in the space. Laetitia is also beyond kind and so knowledgeable. The last time we were in we had a question about specific labelings of pieces & she educated us in detail versus just brushing off. I feel like the variety of artists & types of art are always such a great way to find exactly the piece that can either say this is super Aloha Hawaii or this is very authentically unique vision of Hawaii. An excellent oasis of art located north of Kaneohe. This museum gallery hosts a wide variety of genres and methods, all of which are inspiring based on your personal taste. All the featured artists are local and I've found coming here is a nice way to de-stress. The manager Ms Atlantis, does an impeccable job at rotating the pieces so there is always something new to discover. I've found not only inspiration but also ways to fix my own painting errors, especially with regard to composition, light/shadow, and visual movement. What a great establishment. Amazing prices and greater customer service. I came in looking to get an estimate on framing two burlap sacks, not only was the pricing way lower than other competitors it was framed within 24 hours. I told Jim, the owner, that this was going to be my husbands valentine gift, when they were ready for pick up he left a discreet voicemail that my two friends were ready. He also played with the back off the burlap's and framed them incase I liked it. Which I loved! I'll definitely be back to frame a few more pieces. Thank you so much! read more

I am a local, Native Hawaiian artist, and recently made the trip to this gallery to get some matting and framing for my own work. I called in advance, spoke to the owner, and explained what I needed. In the past, they had a couple of guys that just cut bulk mats for artists, and although they no longer are there, the owner said he could handle my order of around 30 mats. I asked if I could come in the next day, and he said sure, he's there from 10am. I showed up a little before 11 with pieces in tow (he didn't want measurements, he wanted to see physical pieces). I was excited, and brought a number of additional oils and prints, thinking maybe I could have them help with some custom framing as well. It represented easily over $2000. I was planning on spending at least $500 on framing of one piece. When I arrived, the owner said he remembered our conversation. I told him I was inspired and brought a bunch more to see what he could do. He chastised me saying, you told me only 30, and you've come at a really bad time. He started pointing at people in the gallery saying "she needs framing, I have a meeting with her right now, and another client coming in right away ". I said , OK, I'll come another day. He said, "no no, I'll figure it out". So another woman "took care" of me. I started pulling out pieces, and was chastised again for cluttering up their table. From there it was just a continuous condescension. Talking to me like I was a total amateur, leaving me to take care of other customers, was insulting and time consuming, and not wanting the Hawaiian titles of the pieces was disappointing, insulting, but not surprising. Going against my gut, I decided to move forward with only 7 images that required duplicate mats, 4-5 identical mats in each size. I said, clearly you're too busy to handle the rest, and she agreed. I chose my mat color and asked if I should have a backup choice in case they ran out. She said, oh no, we have enough. I paid them the total amount, over $300. They called 2 days later to say they didn't have that color. A sign for sure! Ok, that happens, but they clearly didn't see me as a valued client from the minute I walked in. Sorry I brought more business than they wanted? Then politely tell me they can't handle the order. This wasn't my first visit to this gallery, and I had time to see the art on the walls while I was waiting for service. If any native hawaiian artists were represented, I didn't see them. Just more of the same, landscapes, hula dancers, surfing, and Native people depicted as caricatures, what they, their website and their clients call "Hawaiian art". This gallery just won an award for one of America's best galleries and is contributing to the continuing objectification of Hawaiian people and culture. I returned today, retrieved my pieces, and got a refund. My guess is they don't care that I'm taking my business elsewhere, and I look forward to finding a culturally aware and polite company to work with in the future. Malama pono. read more

I just love this cute little local Gallery! Located in Kahaluu, you can't miss the bright yellow building on the right side with the water mural on the wall. They cater to local artists like Tim Ngyuen, Holly Kitara, Peggy Chun and more. They carry from Original paintings to prints to Koa bowls to stationery to jewelry. I get all my artwork here, and their prices are reasonable. Leticia the manager is very friendly too. They frame as well. It'd be really easy to pass this place right by or, upon entry, dismiss it as a whole lot of beautiful images of Hawaii. It's true, there are lots of images of Hawaii (photos, watercolors, oils, acrylics) but spend some time wandering the 3,500 square foot space with art from 60+ island artists and you'll find some gems, not just amongst the traditional imagery. Even among the less traditional imagery pieces stand out because they're unique and well-executed artwork, and not just because they're different than the majority of pieces. I really enjoyed the: * turned wood bowls made from a wide variety of trees. Each bowl identified the type of tree from which it was created and the differences were fascinating. My personal favorite were the ones made from Norfolk Island Pine. * Film photographs (not digital) of old Hawaii. There's a great assortment of black and white images for sale, enabling you to enjoy what Hawaii looked like before it became what we see today. Buildings, roads, animals, people, sports: everything old-Hawaii is well represented by these film images. * Original oils and reproductions of work by artist Avi Kiriarty whose designs have graced many Kahala brand Aloha shirts. His original imagery is so much more than what's printed on Kahala textiles. There are some seriously fine pieces of Avi's work here. I also enjoyed reading the self-created bios of all the artists, and learning the paths which led them here. Not every artist has created a bio but look for them and you'll be rewarded with some interesting tales. This is an amazing place! There is such a wide variety of local art by local artists displayed in this spacious gallery filled with aloha. We needed some art reproduced, matted and framed. Laeticia was so helpful and the proces was so smooth, pleasant and quick! She referred us out for the art reproduction and when the time came to assemble, she did a beautiful job and even gave us some supplies to help with the rest of our art. There is definitely more than meets the eyes. I'm sure you've passed it a million times before like I did. Always told myself "next time" but never did. This is mostly because when I drive along this stretch of Kamehameha Hwy, I am doing my "around the island" drive to my favorite shrimp truck, beach/surf, corn, bakery, and shaved ice stops. Like I said, I pass by Sunshine Arts each and every time. I always notice it but never stopped by. Today, not making my usual "around the island" drive, I specifically drove here to personally deliver a check and say "thank you". Why did I make this trip all the way from town? Because of their service. Before today, I've only done business with Sunshine over the phone. They delivered our orders so I've never had to go there. However, with this last job, although small, Jim was very helpful and got me exactly what I needed in a very timely manner. I told him I "owed" him one and I promised to drop off a "cold pack". With check and a "cold pack" in hand, I drove to Kahaluu to make my delivery. He was not there but the trip was well worth it. I finally got to see inside. Yes, they are an art gallery that showcases 50+ local artists with so many different mediums. The newest one I just learned about was photography printed on Aluminum. But it does not end there. They have your "Hawaiian" decorative items and various jewelry and so many great gift items. They sell Koa frames at very reasonable prices (beats your town frame shops for sure) and do custom frames as well. The selections are extensive. If you have your own artwork you want to get matted, they do that too. The gallery is a lot larger than it looks from the outside.......I'm very impressed and feel that more "locals" should discover this gem in Kahaluu. I'm recommending anyone who wants local art works or wanting to get something framed to go here. They will not regret it! read more

I was at Sunshine Gallery this morning prepared to spend $400 on a birthday gift. There was only one employee present; he was helping a woman select matting. I patiently waited my turn. Shortly, another customer and his son walked in. The proprietor came down stairs, greeted me, walked past and proceeded to wait on the other customer. (What ever happened to, "May I help you?"?) More customers came in. The man doing matting looked up at me and called out, "I'll be right with you." When he was finished, he walked past me and waited on the couple that came in after me. I couldn't believe it. I waited a moment, then left, calling out, "Goodbye." I don't think they heard me. NO SALE! read more

Left this gallery with perfect pictures for my mother but an awful experience with the sales associate. I pulled out my credit card while she was writing up the slip, while making a comment about me being in a hurry which I was not. She goes on to swipe my card instead of using the chip so it didn't go thru. She then asked for my ID and suspiciously asked if I had another ID because I changed my hair color, my hair color is the EXACT same color as in photo. My id and credit card names both match, that should be enough. First time I've ever been treated so poorly, the entire exchange was extremely rude and uncalled for. great art but I will never go back. read more

Sunshine Arts is a wonderful art store with reasonable prices. You can see it on your way to China Man's Hat from Kaneohe. It's the building with the giant China Man's Hat painting on its side. When I walked in, I was immediately helped. I had just shopped all over North Shore for a China Man's Hat original panting for a gift but only got the run around. Not at Sunshine Arts! They showed me all of their original artworks and I managed to find the perfect one. Plus, to my surprise, the frames are included in the price and she even gift wrapped it for me. Finally stopped in to Sunshine arts today to check out the studio! I was very impressed by the variety of art works, from glassworks, wood crafts, to prints and original paintings, all done by Hawaiian artists. Prices are very reasonable, and they will frame the prints right there and then for fantastic prices! I picked up a few prints, from 3 different artists and 3 beautifully painted tiles, and had each print framed and ready within a half hour for just over $300! Absolutely amazing art gallery and service!! I was in a bind, needing to get a custom size frame and mat for a last minute going away gift. I went to all the standard places, Pictures Plus, Ben Franklin...none were willing to work with me. I drove out here from Wahiawa, was immediately greeted and brought back to the framing area. As a local realtor looking for items for staging high end houses, I went in with a large budget to spend. Unfortunately the staff followed me around the whole time like I was going to steal stuff and it immediately turned me off. I left without spending many of my budget because I was followed around and watched, making me very uncomfortable. When I asked to use the restroom I was very rudely told that there is no public restroom. Who has a business with no public restroom for their customers? Staff needs quit treating customers like they are thieves. Rude! read more

We are art gallery junkies & visit them frequently when traveling. This little gem is bright yellow and set against the windward side of Oahu on Kamehameha Highway. Selection was top notch in that there was both 2-d and 3-d artwork including acrylics, lithos, fused glass and woodworking from dozens and dozens of artists. I am an amateur fused glass artist and thought the artwork by glass artisans was particularly well cast, colorful & bubble free. Although we were the only patrons on a cloudy Sunday the frame shop in the back seemed busy which is always a good sign for a small gallery. Prices were not modest but they weren't outrageous either. This is Hawaii and it's never cheap. Of particular note we purhcased artwork by an artist named Patrice Ann Federspiel who paints whimsical mermaids, turtles, dolphins all the jewel tones and with aloha. My daughter loved her work so we bought early Christmas presents. One piece entitled, "Swimming with Friends" is enchanting with a ginger-haired dolphin swimming between two sea turtles. $30 for the smallest one which is roughly 5 by 7 inches with a white matte frame. I highly recommend this little gallery for those wishing a colorful respite from the throngs of tourists! read more

This gallery features the work of many talented local artists, and offers a nice variety of styles, sizes, and prices.
