It's hard to imagine a better real estate agent than Jeff. Jeff is thorough to the point of overkill. In addition to being a real estate agent Jeff is a lawyer. As he told us, none of his deals has ever been to court or arbitration. He covers all the bases. The best part was his recommending what work we should do on our house and what we should skip. Then he brought in all the contractors and inspectors, got bids, and managed all of the work. We literally moved out and Jeff took care of everything. When it was time to go to market Jeff spent hours going through listing and process strategies for taking bids. We had the pleasure of working with Jeff to sell my childhood home, as my mother was moving to an apartment. We recently purchased our first home through Jeff & Steve, and cannot recommend them enough. Jeff is really a pleasant person and a great friend to have during an otherwise emotionally intense transaction, which can also get stressful at times. A few aspects about Jeff & Steve set them apart from most other agents that we have met over the course of a year or so. (We met with 2 other agents before going with Jeff & Steve). My wife & I met Jeff & Steve at an open house they were running. Both of them were very honest and upfront about everything regarding the house. We didn't get the house (went through an online agency & had bid much lesser than asking as per our affordability), but we decided to work with them instead. I am a hands-on guy and pored over every aspect of the transaction. Jeff showed immense amount of patience as I asked him a million questions (down to some small aspect of the contract). After going through 3 previous subpar realtors, I was referred to Jeff and Steve by a co-worker, and immediately, my husband and I could see the huge difference in quality between the previous realtors and Jeff. We had been planning on putting down an offer on a house that no one seemed to want in downtown Mt View; I had a feeling that it was worth $50k less than asking, and the previous realtor was pushing us to offer more. To my surprise, Jeff stated that it was worth $80k less than asking and visited the house within 2 hours of my call with him. He had a list of 10 things wrong with the house and encouraged us to wait 30 days to see if the price did drop. It did indeed drop $80k to the price that Jeff said it was worth, and I knew then that Jeff would be the right realtor for us to work with. We passed on that house for all the reasons that Jeff listed, and he helped us see many more houses after that over the course of 9 months or so. Throughout it all, Jeff was patient and always answered all my emails and calls immediately. Being first-time homebuyers and looking for a single unit house in a competitive area, it was important for my husband and me to have a real estate agent that we could always reach and could walk us through the process. Jeff would always point out many more things about a house than we would notice on our own and be able to tell us how much work would be need to be done when moving in, giving us estimates that we could take into consideration. I was referred to them through a realtor-friend from the East coast who interviewed about 10 RE agents for me. They were in the top 3 for her. I then interviewed them myself and ultimately chose Jeff and Steve b/c of their credentials/track record, their ability/willingness to "just do it" and get things done so we didn't have to deal with the mundane (we basically just had to say "yes" or "no" to a series of questions), and, finally, their "bedside manner" (this was our first sale, so we didn't know the process). They (and their team) really took care of everything from cleaning/staging and landscaping/resodding to marketing through to the close. Our family had the privilege of working with Jeff Stricker to recently help us find a home in Los Altos near the Village. I cannot express how delighted/lucky we are to have worked with Jeff, but will try to give some color on our experience. * Knowledge of Los Altos: Jeff provided us a market understanding of the 'micro-neighborhoods' in LA, and literally street-by-street assessments for areas of specific interest. Jeff is excellent at discerning value and what components of a specific property add-to/subtract-from value. This of course came into play as Jeff advised on bidding strategies for various homes. * Understanding the buyer's needs: Jeff spend a lot of time working with my family to understand what factors were important to us in choosing a home. This was done though conversations as well as walkthroughs he arranged for homes of interest. * Eye for detail: Following on the previous bullet, during walkthroughs, Jeff would point out things in the home that wouldn't work for us. I am not sure we would have realized them ourselves. E.g. This room will not comfortably fit a king bed - the staging bed is a twin; the driveway is curved and will be difficult to back out of; it is a beautiful home, but there is not enough closet /storage space to fit your needs; you don't hear the road noise now, but you will in the winter. In isolation, these seem like minor points, but in aggregate these assessment are invaluable, we ended up trusting Jeff more than ourselves to find 'issues' - this is a good thing. * Chickens: Had to call this out separately. There was one home we decided to put a bid on (and lost). Jeff somehow found out that one of the homes nearby had some chickens raised on the property. Jeff walked around, saw the chickens, and also asked neighbors about how noisy they were. He made sure there would be no noise concerns before we made our bid. * Advocacy and Integrity: There were a couple of homes we wanted to pull the trigger on (of course bidding well above list), but Jeff talked us out of because he felt the value wasn't there. He didn't' think the home was right for us. I cannot tell you how refreshing this is. It also saved us a lot of emotional fatigue. This sentiment should be appreciated for those currently looking/bidding in this competitive market. * Full service: It was enough that Jeff helped us find/purchase a home. But Jeff goes beyond the extra mile, providing us and coordinating various contractors/bids we needed to renovate the home after purchase. We got a broker + master contractor coordinator, all for the 'price' of a broker. I think it is clear that we really value and respect Jeff as a broker. Certainly there has to be a personality fit between buyer and broker, but I encourage anyone reading this post to contact Jeff and at least setup an interview for his services. What a grade-A a--hole! I just called the listing agent for a home listing in Palo Alto - Steve TenBroeck. After less than 10 seconds, he starts scolding me with "I don't have time for this now, I don't have time for questions, I don't have time to show you the property, I don't have time for..." Afraid of stooping to his level, I was inclined to say thank you and just hang up. But, I decided to pursue my conversation to ask if I could see the house that he has listed. He says he does not have time to show me the house and wanted to refer me to one of his colleagues. The agent that he referred me to was even more impolite. She answers the phone with "hello! Who's this?! What do you want?" You'd think that someone considering a multi-million dollar listing in Palo Alto would be afforded the courtesy of a few minutes (seconds at least) of the listing agent's time. Especially, when said agent decides to answer his phone rather than letting it go to voicemail. This experience adds fuel to the fire that real estate agents are [fill-the-blank] who are antiquated who feel like they are entitled to their 3% of the transaction value - whether they did anything at all to earn the commission. read more

We interviewed many realtors for sale of our Los Altos home and Jeff was the most knowledgeable. He knew the market inside out and was the only realtor to provide a fully comprehensive list of improvements to enhance our home and maximize its value. After signing the listing Jeff and Steve became our "project management team", getting quotes and scheduling all the contractors work around our daily living in the home. We even independently got a quote on our own for comparison but it was not as good as the one provided by Jeff & Steve's contractor. And any minor contractor corrections or touch-up were no problem. My husband and I recently bought our first home with Jeff. As first time home buyers, we had an idea of what we wanted but had very little insight into what we wouldn't want. Open letter to prospective home sellers and/or buyers: Re: The Jeff Stricker/Steve TenBroeck team I'll begin by stating the very obvious: buying or selling a home is an extremely complex transaction (more accurately, it's an intricate series of complex transactions). Not only do you have the financial and business aspects to deal with, you also have psychological and emotional factors to contend with as well. I'm guessing the residential real estate business is unique in this regard. Additionally, the scope of these complexities doesn't really increase/decrease very much depending on the size/location/price of the property. Whether you're moving across the street, or moving across the country, you'll still have to deal with the same business, financial, psychological and emotional factors. The best approach is to envision yourself as the CEO of a team you've assembled to accomplish the buying/selling of your home. The most important member of that team will be your real estate broker. The Jeff Stricker/Steve TenBroeck team should be your choice. Experience? They've got it. You've already read it on their website or in their portfolio: Over 20 years of experience. Here's what that means to me: They've seen every kind of real estate market over the years, from the sizzling to the moribund. They know what approach to take through any kind of market condition. I am so pleased to share my great experiences working with Jeff and Steve. We have worked together now for four real estate transactions over the last 10 years, buying twice and selling twice. We bought our house from Jeff about 11 years ago. When it was time to sell the same house, we opted to use Jeff for the sale. It was a great decision.
