BFF a stopped in on a cold rainy afternoon. There was a warm waiting. It was fun to see the phones and reminisce about our phone memories. Not leaving the house because you were waiting for a call and there were no answering machines was thenmost vital nemirie!. For those of a certain age, we remember Vicki Carr's "It Must Be Him". Our guide was very knowledgeable. His love for this collection is palpable. Very much worth it. You might want to take a grandchild and expose them to history and see if they can dial a phone.

If you ever wanted to learn something about telephones this is the place. We were visiting the city and with the temps in the high 90's we were looking for a place we could enjoy and get out of the high heat. This place is awesome. We didn't know what to expect here and we were very pleasantly surprised. We went on a Saturday morning and met Ken who was providing a guided tour. He started out by telling us the history of the house, the work, money and volunteer labor hours it has taken to get the museum up and running. Ken gives a fantastic tour and gives you an in-depth look into how the phone and it's technology has evolved over the years. He worked for Bell for 35 years and has a lot of personal stories he can tell. There are also some hands-on things you can sample that are really interesting to see. A must see if you visit St. Louis.

The museum docents are happy to demonstrate the working Strowger (step-by-step) switch.

It was better than expected. Lots of interesting telephony history crammed into a relatively small space. The building is a late 1800's army officer's quarters that Saint Louis County was planning to demolish. The phone people were looking for a museum space, so the timing worked out and they were able to acquire it. From what I understand that was in 2001 or 2002, then it took them 10+ years to completely rehab the space and get it ready to open - relying primarily on weekend volunteers to complete the work. The museum takes up the whole first floor of the building. There are four rooms, displaying phone technology and related materials in chronological order, from oldest to newest. The second floor is off limits and used for storage of even more artifacts to hopefully be displayed later. It's a good mix of interactive (like the working Strowger Switch and the pay phone coin sound simulator) and non-interactive display materials. Plus the museum docents make for enthusiastic tour guides, included in the price of admission. There is enough history here to interest most any history buff, even if you don't think of phones as something you might be interested in. With a detailed tour of all four rooms and then some added time to go back and take more pictures, our visit took about an hour. We're happy we went. It's a nice addition to Jefferson Barracks Park.

Our tour was supposed to run about forty minutes, but we asked a lot of questions and it lasted over an hour- oops. Lots of furniture that was original to the family (not the case with the nearby Lemp Mansion). Ask if you can go on the balcony- they let us and it has a great view of the yard and surrounding buildings. The guide was so knowledgable- she was able to answer every question about the house that our group of four asked. The gift shop is nice-sized and rather inexpensive- a mixture of antiques, books, and other items. I was disappointed that the Cafe is closed while they look for a new tenant, but went to Gus's Pretzels nearby instead.

I was quite charmed by the house and especially the tour guide. On Bastille Day, the ticket price was a little higher than typical, at $12, but it included french dancing, storming the Bastille, plus the mock decapitation of Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI. The House Tour was excellent, and interesting, not to mention historical and educational. It was well worth the money mostly due to the humorous delivery and knowledge of the tour guide. The restrooms are nice, and located in the new carriage house; street parking is easy to find and free. I missed the gift shop and world's fair collection but will be sure to catch that next time. Not sure this trip has enough kid-friendly activities to keep kids interested. This is certainly a worthy destination for those looking to deepen their french roots on Bastille Day. As a bonus, the food truck "Holy Crepe" shows up on Bastille Day too.

There was a lot of information about St. Louis history and culture, not just the usual but also the unusual, which was fun. I would have liked a little more detail about the specific architects and buildings themselves, but there was a lot to get in. The tour lasted exactly 2.5 hours and that was enough. We went to the Hotel St. Louis for lunch afterward so we could spend time in that fantastic art deco space. The restaurant is open breakfast through evening, so it would be a good spot to take a break whenever you might be downtown. The sheer number of truly beautiful historic buildings in downtown St. Louis is so impressive. Yes, some are neglected, but their elegance and scale are stunning. It was interesting to see up close the neighborhood and streets that I read about in the news. I recommend this tour for anyone, but in particular it would be great for locals to take it and see our city for the jewel it is. The walk was easy, the guide (Glenn) was fun and informative, and I was surprised at how spotless downtown is.

I think I had forgot just how many different holes and paths you could take. They've also added more stuff than I remember. They had a section roped off because they're adding yet another section. I wasn't sure I'd enjoy the place as much this time around but I did. This is a must-visit when in StL but be warned, you will be tired after playing on this adult playground. The only annoyance this time is that I seem to remember that you could pay one price and get everything. This time, there was the general ticket that gives you access to 3 floors but no roof access. No pinball access. You have to pay extra for those two things. I guess extra charges make sense but just wrap the price all in one. I feel like the floors and roof should be in one ticket. There were a few times that employees came out on the roof to run people off that didn't have the appropriate color of bracelet. If you love having fun, definitely do this when visiting StL.
